Connecting to NEC MultiSync 6fgp Monitor

I recently aquired a NEC MultiSync 6fGp monitor from a friend. Upon recieving it I unplugged the VGA cable from the back of my previous monitor and directly into my new one. It worked just fine, but I wanted to adjust the display settings, so I went in and hit detect displays so that it would gather the new info. It would no longer recognize the display as being present. I realize that it is a very old monitor, but I have not had any problems with any other monitors before, no matter how old, and it did work fine before I detected displays. I figured that I would try a reboot to see if that solved any problems. Upon reboot the screen turned on, displayed the startup screen of light blue, but when the login panel came up the external monitor shut off. After logging in, same deal, it would not detect the display. So now I am stuck and very confused. Is there any way for me to just tell OSX that the display is there? Or is there some step that I am missing? I have tried unplugging everything but the monitor, but no go there either. Thanks for any help/insight you can provide.

I should have also included that my graphics card is the OEM Radeon 9600.

  • I have an older NEC MultiSync LCD 1700V monitor. I'm having trouble getting it to work with my MAC BOOK Pro with Mavericks. Is the monitor outdated?

I have an older NEC MultiSync LCD 1700V monitor I used for my MAC Power PC G5 (with the Tower). I am discarding the G% and have tried to connect to the laptop MAC BOOK Pro using the 15 pin dongle for connectivity. I get the screen with the desktop and icons, but I cannot get any applications or folders to come up on the screen. Is the monitor just outdated for the newer softward, or isk there some fix?
    Please advise.

10.9 Mavericks changes the way displays are treated, and the new default is that each display is an independent workspace. This can be put back to the "correct" Extended Desktop way.
Windows in Mavericks reside in a single space by default, so they usually don't span multiple displays. When a window is dragged between displays, it appears translucent on one of the displays to indicate this. After you are done dragging the window, it snaps to one display.
If you need an app window to span multiple displays, deselect the option "Displays have separate Spaces" in the Mission Control pane of System Preferences.

  • Problems connecting an NEC AccuSync ASLCD223WXM with DVI

    Hi all,
I have a PowerMac Dual G5 and just got a new monitor - an NEC AccuSync ASLCD223WXM. The monitor works fine over a VGA connection, but I wanted to try DVI so I got a Dell cable from a friend who wasn't using his. When I connect the NEC monitor to the Mac with the DVI cable, the monitor seems to switch between DVI and VGA inputs, looking for a source. The Mac desktop is visible for about a second, and then the monitor blacks out and appears to be trying to look at the VGA input (or it could just be going black). Then it switches back to the DVI input, displaying the desktop for about a second. The process repeats indefinitely.
The resolution is set at 1650x1050 at 60 Hz.
Anyone have any ideas? I'm wondering if I have a bad cable, or the wrong cable. There's DVI-D (which I think I have), DVI-M, DVI-A, etc... There's also single link and dual link. Not sure which I have. I've seen some info which says that the Radeon 9600 XT which is in my machine wants a DVD-D dual link cable, and the NEC monitor wants a DVI-D single link cable, but I don't trust the sources completely (and I don't know if that would cause this type of problem).
    Thanks for any help,
    Russ

Some more info in case it helps -
The Radeon 9600 XT in my Power Mac G5 appears to have a DVI-I port on the back. It has four extra pins around the flat contact. The NEC monitor appears to have a DVI-D port. It does not have pin inputs for the four extra pins around the flat contact. According to this (questionably creditable) webpage - http://www.pccables.com/cables/DVI_cables.html - a DVI-D to DVI-D cable is the right one to use in this situation.
Also, when I lowered the resolution down to 1280x800, the flashing went away. Raising the resolution caused it to come back. I found this webpage on Apple's site - http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301752 - which says this:
"The maximum resolution available when this display is connected to a single-link DVI port is 1280 x 800 - you must connect the display to a dual-link DVI port in order to access the higher resolutions available to the display."
Does this help diagnose the problem? Do I need a dual-link DVI-D cable? I called NEC and they said use a single-link DVI-D cable, but the person on the other end of the phone didn't sound technical so I'm inclined not to believe them.

  • Help please! G5 and NEC Multisync 2690 Wuxi

    Hi there,
I've just got myself a lovely new monitor, the 26" NEC Multisync mentioned above and I've got a problem playing video. Previously I had a 20" Formac monitor, and video played just fine. Now though I find most video - even cruddy low quality stuff on the web - plays in an exceptionally jerky way. Do I need a new graphics card, and if so which one? I've currently got an ATI Radeon 9600XT to go with my G5 PowerMac. I'm running 10.4.
    Thanks for your help,
    Jonathan

one of the first things i would do is check for dust causing your card to overheat, Ive pulled a few and seen this poor fate for them .... there is also a software based tool ATIcellerator that can software over/under clock most ATI cards, i limped along for about a year on an underclocked card before breaking down and replacing it

  • Not able to mirror with NEC MultiSync LCD 1l980SXi

I have an iMac G4 with a 15" screen. I am trying to mirror with a NEC MultiSync LCD 1l980SXi but am unable to do it, all I get is a black screen that briefly states it is not receiving a signal. I understand that it should work but it's not. In the graphics info of About This Mac, it shows Mirror is set to "off", can this be changed to "on" somewhere and will that solve the problem? I have a mini VGA connection going out of the iMac and am hooked to the NEC with an odd looking plug. The NEC does work with my Power PC G3 and with an eMac. Anyone able to hold my hand and walk me through this?

Yes, on the PowerPC it matches at the 768 size and with the eMac it automatically adjusts to 1024 so I don't understand why it won't work with the iMac which is also at 1024. The eMac is a CRT display while the iMac is LCD which matches the NEC display. Does the mirror "off" indication on graphics info keep it from working? If so, how do I change it to "on"?

  • Connecting external NEC PA271W via Displayport cable to MBPr has sleep/wake issues

I am experiencing strange sleep/wake issues after connecting my NEC PA271W 27'' external monitor via a mini-displayport to displayport cable to my MBPr.
Waking up from sleep mode, the resolution of my monitor would be set to 1440x768 instead of the proper 2560x1440 and I always have to go to system settings to get it right.
NEC claims this may be due to cable issues and Apple using a "wrong" mini displayport standard but I have tried 4 different cable manufacturers and this is just strange.
    Anybody else experiencing similar issues?

  • Connecting Mac Pro to Dell monitor

I have connected Macpro to Dell DVI monitor, the Dell will show the Mac home screen, but stays on that screen when i change to a different screen (on Mac)?

You have it set up as an extended desktop rather than mirroring. That means you can drag a window from your MBP onto that monitor. It's like an extension of the existing monitor. If you want mirroring, which shows the same on both, go to Displays in System Preferences and change it.

You're trying to use a PS3 with a PC monitor?  I thought that couldn't be done, but I'm not sure.
    Why wouldn't it?
PC monitors and LCD HDTVs are nearly indistinguishable from each other now, at least when connecting via HDMI.
It should simply be a case of:
HDMI from PS3 to PC monitor
Audio output (depends on your audio system) from PS3 to audio system.  (Actually, this is one of the few differences between PC monitors and TVs with HDMI connectivity - most PC monitors don't have speakers, TVs do and support HDMI audio.)
In my case, I have HDMI to my 46" TV and optical audio to a Yamaha receiver, but could easily move the PS3 to my "office" and connect to my 24" Gateway monitor and my other Yamaha receiver.  (Yes, I have TWO Yamaha HTIB systems, one in the living room and one in the "office".)

  • HOW TO Connect G5 to an HP2311x Monitor. ( G5 ADC outlet to DVI & VGA/HDMI Monitor )

What cords / splitters / converters do I need to Buy?
    O.O THANKS!

    Hello,
First you need an ADC-> DVI converter...

Then if the Monitor doesn't have DVI, a DVI to HDMI adapter.

  • Connecting iBook G3 as second monitor for iBook G4

I want to know if (and then how) I can connect my iBook G4 (running on OSX (10.4.5)) to an iBook G3, ultimately connecting the iBook G3 to a data projector, so that I can use presenter tools in PowerPoint.
iBook G4, iBook G3 Mac OS X (10.4.5) iBook G3 will be connected to the data projector
    iMac G5; iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

If I understand what you want to do, you want to use another iBook as a second monitor. Is that correct? If so, there's no way to get video into the second iBook. There's only a video output. You can connect your iBook to another monitor now or to a video projector. The image on the second monitor would mirror the iBook's. Screen Spanning Doctor allows you to have the desktop span across two monitors. Be aware though that SPDr is a system hack and could void your warranty if you use it.
