Connecting to netgear WG111v2 wireless network
My daughter has come home from college with her Macbook Pro 17/2.4CTO which she bought in September. At home we have a Windows Vista PC, running Netgear WG111v2 wireless network. The Mac can see the name of the network, but can't connect to it. We are using the following settings:
Default IP: 192.168.0.1
Username admin
password password
Channel 6
Anyone have any ideas?

The PC I am running it on is a new Dell Inspiron 531 Desktop, with 2Gb of RAM, running Vista Home Premium version 6.0. I am running Internet Explorer.

I currently have a WPN824 v3 Netgear router and I’m trying to set up my Apple TV. I am able to connect it to my wireless network but my airplay feature is currently not working. The icon does not appear on any of my devices. My ipad and ipones all are currently up to date and are all joined to the same network. Is it the way that my router is configured. Please help let me know what I need to change in my router settings or does my router not work with Airplay. Or is there a simple fix.

Can't connect AE to existing wireless network
I can't get my AE to connect to my existing wireless network. I saw the other thread on this and followed those steps, but it didn't work. Here's what I did:
1. Connected the AE to my D-Link DIR-655 wireless router via ethernet cable.
2. Opened Airport Utility and established a connection to the AE.
3. Renamed the AE and entered a password.
4. In the "wireless" tab, I selected "join existing network", chose my wireless network, selected the security type (WPA Personal) and entered the password.
5. In the "music" tab, I named the speakers and entered a password.
So far so good. I clicked "update" and the AE restarted. After a while I received an error message informing me that the base station could no longer be detected. According to the directions posted in the other thread, this is actually supposed to be a sign that the AE is now in client mode and all is well.
I unplugged the ethernet cable from the AE and router and then went to the other room. I plugged the AE into the speakers and then plugged the AE into the wall.
However, instead of a green light all I have is a flashing amber light, even after several minutes. No connection.
I reset the AE and repeated the steps above, to no avail. Still a flashing amber light.
Any ideas?I'm having a similar issue. My AE is connected directly to a Netgear WGR614v4 router, and I run through all the steps you mentioned. When I choose to update the settings to the AE, I get the same "error" you mentioned about the AE not being found, and I also took that as a sign that I'm in client mode. I moved the AE to the other room, connected my mini cable to the stereo, then plugged the AE back into the wall. The AE runs through its setup and eventually gets a solid green light, so I'm thinking all is well.
The problem is that I then log back into the AirPort Utility on my laptop and the AE is not shown in the top left like it should be. After doing a bit of reading, I've figured out that I can manually find it by going to File>Configure Other and entering the AE's IP address and password. Then I get a window showing the details of the AE, its name, network, encryption, etc. However, if I close this window, it still doesn't show up in the main AirPort Utility screen and I'm not sure how to configure it for AirTunes.
Hoping that's just a bug with the AirPort Utility software, I open up iTunes to see if I can locate it there. I know I should see a pulldown menu at the bottom of iTunes that gives me an option for AE as my audio output method, but the menu is not there. Now I'm completely stuck.
At this point I decide to start from scratch, so I do a Factory Default reset by pressing down the reset button on the AE as I plug it into the wall. Now it is supposedly reset, so I plug it back into my router, then it runs through a setup sequence and lights up solid green before I've even done anything. It shows up in AirPort Utility with a default base station ID, but my computer won't connect to it at all. I'm hoping I can try to reset it again this evening and at least get back to the normal setup screen, but I'm really not sure what I could do differently at this point.
This is frustrating and I'm on the verge of giving up, but I REALLY want this to work out. -

I just bought a new Macbook Pro 15" with SSD 256 Gb and its almost a brand-new (the 4th time to use the device) a while ago i was trying to connect to my home wireless network it said that the connection is timed out so i clicked the airport sign on the top it said that your airport is not configured then I restarted the system but it didn't restarted it showed the grey screen with the apple logo and the spinning wheel for more than 10min so I tried the force shutdown by pressing the power button till it switched off I waited for 5min then pressed the power button to start or boot the system and again the grey screen with the apple logo and the spinning wheel, I waited for more than 20min nothing changed, any solution please?
Your help is really appreciated"Thanks a lot i followed the instructions for safe mode (i found out that i was pressing the C button after restarting) i did whats written there but the repair couldn't be performed so in addition i needed to re-formate the HD so i erased the volume and then repaired the disk--> quite disk utilities --> start the installation from the installation DVD.

After updating to iOS 6, I can no longer connect to my schools wireless network. It uses manual http proxy. Now however a blank pop up comes up and it will not connect you. Thanks

I have an eMac which I want to connect to my home wireless network. My router is D-Link - 601 tech. 802.11n. My eMac is wireless ready but does not contain an airport card. Do I need a card and an airport station? What else?
You need the Airport card OR Airport Express but not both. Considering the age of your machine, I recommend Airport Express as you will find other uses for it whenever you replace the eMac.
To set up the AE, you do need OSX 10.4 or higher. -
I have followed all relevant steps, my iPhone5 and apple TV are connected to the same wireless network, but I still cannot use airplay. When I choose the airplay option on my phone, the only option I get is "iPhone"
Welcome to the Apple Community Willy.
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
Restart your mobile device. -

Have imported my certificate from Windows XP machine into keychain and made Leopard always trust in order to authenticate automatically into my corporate wireless network. Also attempted to establish a new 802.1x connection via network preferences without any success. It keeps asking me for username and password even though we used self-generated certificates to log into corporate wireless network. Does anybody have any instructions on how to successfully configure certificates in Leopard?Welcome to the discussion area, jackregan!
You'll need to "hard reset" the Time Capsule and then reconfigure it again. To do this, you will hold in the reset button until you see the amber light begin to blink more quickly, keep holding another second or two and then release.
The "hard reset" will not affect the data on your Time Capsule
Now you can open AirPort Utility and configure the Time Capsule using wireless (be sure to log on to the default network which will have a name like Apple Network xxxxxx), or you can connect an ethernet cable from your computer to one of the LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule to have AirPort Utility communicate with it that way.
When you open AirPort Utility, click Continue to follow the guided setup to re-configure your Time Capsule. You would choose the option to "Create a wireless network" when you are given the configuration options. -
I have two facetime users, both connecting to our enterprise wireless network (Cisco WCS) and they can't make a facetime connection from IPAD to IPAD. Are there any apple protocols or other settings that need to be enabled on WCS? There is no firewall inbetween the two connections, as this is all on our internal network.
Both devices can connect to the network, but when they try to talk to each other they can't make the connection.

My Linksys router has a Network Mode setting, and I had to change it from "Mixed" to "Wireless-G only". (I would've used N but one of the NICs in my house is too old to support it.) Anyway, after making this change, Facetime works fine on the phone. Hope this helps someone else! -

I've purchased a laptop with Vista and can't get it to connect to my existing wireless network. I have a Linksys BEFW11SF ver.4 router. When I attempt, I get, "Wireless connection failed because the network denied the association request from this computer." Anyone? Thanks.
Not sure about the Error ....but you can change the wireless settings on the router & see if it connects or not ....

I can't connect to my wireless network?
I have a netgear wireless modem (brand new today), if I connect my mac via ethernet i can use the web but not via wireless.
When I try to connect to a wireless network, it asks me for the WPA2 security code which I type in and it always fails to connect.
I looked in the airport utilities and tried to scan for devices but it would not show up my modem?
A bit of back ground to this problem. Yesterday I was using my old wireless net work. Netgear Modem connected to an AirPort Express Base Station with 802.11n and AirTunes. I have had this for a few years and has worked ok up until yesterday. I had an issue with my xbox 360 not being able to connect to my wireless network after an update so their Tech people told me to add the xbox mac code to my base station. I went into the airport utility and scanned for my base station and it appeared. I typed in the code and clicked ok. It then dissapeared from my airport utility and would not appear even when I scanned for it. Funny enough the xbox was connected but although I could see my network, my mac and 2 other PCs i have could connect?)
Any ideas as I can't suss this out.

Try temporarily disabling any wireless encryption on your Netgear wireless modem/router. Can your Mac connect wirelessly now? If not, what is the model of your Netgear?

The AirPort Utility will only work with AirPorts or Time Capsules, not other vendors' products. Most non-AirPort router use web-based administration ... so you would have to use Safari or another web browser to access the Netgear. -
Can't connect PowerBook G4 to wireless network
My wife has brought home a PowerBook G4 from work. It cannot connect to my wireless network. I use a D-Link router. Airport shows full bars, but it does not connect. I was able to connect by plugging it in to ethernet cord. Is there something with this model that has to be changed to have it recognize a wireless connection?
I am having a somewhat similar problem with my PB. I am trying to connect to a brand new (2 weeks old) Netgear wireless router. When the security password protection is turned off I am able to connect without issue. Sadly, it is a shared connection, and security needs to be on. When the password function is on, I am unable to connect. I repeatedly get a message saying "there was an error joining the airport network __."
The password is correct. The signal from the router has been switched to "mixed", per "gobnay's" previous suggestion. And I am getting enough signal strength from the router. It is set to WPA Personal, and other Mac's (a newer MacBook Air, and MacBook) have had no problems connecting. Mine is an older model, PB G4 running 10.4.11 (hardware circa 2003). It seems to be a security problem, but I am otherwise stumped... -
Mac fails to connect to non-Apple wireless network (& changing channel?)
[sorry to post this in two forums - I think I posted it in the wrong one before]
I have a wireless network set up from a Netgear wireless router. My Windows XP computer automatically connects to the network every time. But my Mac (OS X 10.4.11) only connects about 50% of the time. The rest of the time it says "None of your trusted wireless networks could be found." Then when I click the airport icon in top right and select the network from the list, it says "There was an error joing the Airport network [network name]." When I click "Try again" a few times, it sometimes eventually connects, but other times it fails repeatedly. It is completely unpredictable.
I have been looking for solutions on the internet. Lots of other people have problems connecting Macs to non-Apple wireless networks. But no one else seems to have this exact problem: my Mac connects some of the time, but not all. Anyone have any suggestions?
(One idea I found was to change the channel that the Mac tries to use. How do I do this? I can't find "channel" anywhere under System Preferences - Network - Airport.)
All OSs are fully updated, so that is not the problem.I travel extensively, and both my I-Mac G5 and Intel MacBook are very inconsistent in this regard. I do not think it is a router issue given the variety of networks I try to access. Additionally frustrating once a connection is made is that Internet Connect or Network Status will say I am connected to the Internet via Airport, yet Safari and Mail say I am not connected to the Internet.
Network Diagnostics has never had an answer. More often than not i end up using my cellular card. but the Mac often has issues with that too... sporadic like first poster describes.

Time Capsule won't connect to a Linksys wireless network
I made the same mistake as everyone else with 7.3.1. The main problem I had was that after the update the TC wouldn't connect to my wireless network anymore. I put in the network name and password, which worked with version 7.3, and it wouldn't connect as an 'extend network' option.
I've rolled back to version 7.3 and now I'm having the same problem. I can't make it join my existing wireless network...? Any ideas? This thing's been nothing but problems since I bought it. Now I'm reading that TC's can't be used to join existing networks if it's not an Apple base station. I use a Linksys WRT54GS and I know that's not true because it worked before.
Help?! I'm on the edge with this one!At first I had the same problem with being unable to connect a time capsule using airport utility 5.3.1 to a linksys wrt54g. I was finally able to when I followed the software's recommendation to use the encryption type: *WPA2 PERSONAL*.
So I connected an ethernet cable from my MacBook to the Linksys and changed the type of encryption from wep to wpa 2 personal and then I reset the Time Capsule and reinstalled/reconfigured it with the general setting "WPA / WPA2 Personal" in the encryption area.
Now it is working as a part of the linksys network, but I have not yet been successful at using it to "extend" the network like it should, and like I was told it could by a sales rep at the Apple Store. I'll be calling customer support tomorrow to solve this issue.
I hadn't configured the linksys in a while, so in case you don't know off the top of your head as I did not, to do so:
1. connect the cable to the linksys and use your browser to go http://192.168.1.1
(unless you changed this).
2. just type "admin" in the password field (unless you changed this)
3. go to the "wireless" tab, and then finally the "wireless" sub-tab.
4. after choosing the WPA2 Personal encryption type, I left the other settings alone: "AES" as the type of " WPA Algorithms", and "3600 seconds" for the "Group Key Renewal"
(if you changed the login settings on the linksys there's a reset button on the back)

Thanks for the help. Looked but not clear on what I am trying to do as being possible. Can I use an Airport Express to connect wireless to a Linksys Wireless Router, such that I can then use the Ethernet ports on the Airport to either connected to a PC wired, or even use a hub off the Airport Express to allow multiple wired connections to it?
I am not looking to have the Airport Express extend my wireless network, just connect to it and provide me wired connections in a different location from where my Linksys Route is located. Would prefer to replace Linksys with all Apple, but just not possible financially yet. Thanks for the help.If the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) is an 802.11n model, then yes, you can reconfigure it as a wireless Ethernet bridge. In this configuration, the AX would join the wireless network provided by the Linksys router and its Ethernet port would be enabled for either a single wired device or for an Ethernet hub or switch for multiple devices.
