Connecting to Portal from VC

Hi all,
I was following one of the VC presentations to learn about the tool and this is my question:
After log in in the VC I don't see a traffic light with a description as Portal in the top right of the screen.
Where is the set up to see the portal field? or any idea how to connect to the portal from VC?
Thanks,
AA

• Upgradng the enterprise portal from non HA to HA

Dear Experts,
We have Enterprise portal 7.01 on windows 2003 with db2 9.1. and 1 dialog instance. presently it is not in HA. We want to change this to HA using MSCS.
Can any body share some knowledge on this. How to change the existing system.
thanks alot

Hi,
I must want to correct this question as
" Migrating the enterprise portal from non HA to HA".
The only option i can see is reinstallation or i mean to say system copy to new HA system.
Yoy have to plan your connectivity issues in case you are going to change hostname,IP etc.
Steps:
1) Install Fresh HA EP system
2) Take export from source EP system and DB backup
3) Perform system copy steps on new system
4) In case host name is changed , inform the respective interfac eowners.
Hope this will help you to plan better.

• Operations on Users in Prod portal from QA Portal

Hi All,
We are planning to develop a User Management tool which will be running from QA Portal.
For this we are planning to develop a WD Java application from which admin can create. modify users, lock and unlock group of users, add roles or modify roles.
But client wants to run this application from QA portal and he should be able to do above operations in Dev and Prod portals also.
Is this scenario possible? If yes, please tell me how to implement this.
Regards,
Satish

Dear Satish,
I think as per your requirement, you can only do if you are not using UME database for user. Suppose you UME datasource using LDAP or ABAP etc.
Then you may connect same LDAP from dev, qa or prod and. COnnect to LDAP server from UME Datasource form QA and Prod. then you can do from QA UME activites and it will also refelect to Prod because changes will done in LDAP server which is connected to Prod.
Hope it will helps.

• Not able to connect to portal / MDM after some time

Hi, I am displaying some data in Portal from MDM. The connection goes successful for some time after that , connection hangs. The flow come till
ExecuteMatchingStrategyCommand executeMatchingStrgyCom = new ExecuteMatchingStrategyCommand(objcon.connections);
and fails.
Could you kindly help me in resolving the issue?

HI Prabhumsundar
This hanging while running the matching stratergy code happens when MDM has a very huge number of record and the matching stratergy is trying to return all the values in MDM.(Which means all the records satisfy the matching stratergy).
This causes the MDM Server to crash. To resolve this make the matching stratergy robust.

• Connecting to SAP from Web Dynpro

Hi,
I am new to web dynpro, but have downloaded the java sneak preview edition and worked through it a bit. I understand that we have to use JCo to connect to SAP from Java Web dynpro, . Is it true?
What about web dynpro for ABAP? Can we use normal select statements to connect to SAP? How is it exactly done in that case?
Thanks in advance
PG

hi pg
Just go thru this example which describes how to connect to SAP from web dynpro application.

• Sending query to third party portal from TREX Search Engine

HI Experts,
we need to implement normal search option in SAP portal.
when we search any thing from portal ,
It has to search in EP & KM and also it has to search
windows sharepoint portal and bring the data back to SAP Portal.
For this purpose one solution is
1) implementing enterpise search,
but my client dont want to go for enterprise search(federated search).
2) The other way
Sending query to third party portal from TREX Search Engine
In this way what i want is ,
how TREX can send query to third party portal SEARCH ENGINE
(in my case share point portal search ENGINE).
There is no problem to search in EP & KM becuse it is default.
To search in Micro soft Share point portal,
TREX should pass the query to share point portal search ENGINE.
Is there any API TO send a query to third party portal like sharepoint?
I searched in SDN and Other sites also but i am not getting exactly what I require.
If any one has ideas or implemented already please guide me.
My client require searching option like this,
we need to provide drop down box in SAP Portal with 3 options like
1) search in Share point portal
2) search in SAP EP & KM
3) Search in both the portals
please provide any code samples in case if you have.
please help me , its urgent
Thanks in advance.
Regards
Bala

Hi Bala,
please check the information on the KM IMS (Index Management Service) in KMC's developer guide. A connection to a 3rd party search is done from KM, then calling TREX and XY in parallel, not serially from TREX.
Here's a paper describing this for an older KM release:

Hi Mike,
I hear what you are saying and I believe you. But the error you describedis the known issue related to Internet access
(down to the exact line numbers in the stack trace). Is it possible yourconnection was down last time you attempted
hot-deploy?
If you are sure your Internet connection is up, I would recommend tryinghot-deploy again. If it still does not work,
something very strange is going on. At that point I would recommendtrying the workaround anyway or escalating the issue
to BEA Support.
Now my curiosity is piqued so I hope you'll let me know either way.

Hi Mike,
I would bet that you are working on a machine that doesn't have
Internet
access, correct?
The problem is that the EBCC is trying and failing to access the J2EEapplication descriptor
dtd from Sun's website.
If you can't get Internet access, here is the workaround:
- save the attached file to your harddrive (just save it to c:\)
- edit the application.xml file for your project as follows:
- first copy the entire DOCTYPE declaration and save it somewhere
in
a
separate text file (in case want to revert back to it later)
- edit the DOCTYPE declaration so that it looks like this:
<!DOCTYPE application PUBLIC '-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD J2EEApplication 1.3//EN' 'file:///application_1_3.dtd'>
( notice that the java.sun.com web address is replaced with the URI
to
the file on your harddrive)
- save your changes and hotdeploy will work with or without Internetaccess
Thanks,

• Poblems delete portal from EBCC

Hi!
After delete a portal in EBCC we can not make a hot deply or sync.
Looking for some help about deleting portals without consequences between
EBCC and Portal 7
regards
c.

Hi Parikshit,
I apologize for the bad experience that this bug caused for you. I
verified that it is slated to be fixed in SP2 (CR080390). The doc team just
finished a release note for this on our edocs staging server. I told them
that they'd better hurry and put it on the production edocs server. I gave
them a link to your posting...that will spur them on ; )
For now, here is a workaround. It sounds like it is what you already
tried, but please double-check your syntax in the DOCTYPE declaration. If
it doesn't work for you, then please post a reply:
- save the attached file to your harddrive (you can just save it to c:\ or \
or wherever else you want it)
- edit the application.xml file as follows:
- first copy the entire DOCTYPE declaration and save it somewhere in a
separate text file (in case want to revert back to it later)
- edit the DOCTYPE declaration so that it looks like this:
<!DOCTYPE application PUBLIC '-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD J2EE
Application 1.3//EN' 'file:///application_1_3.dtd'>
( notice that the java.sun.com web address is replaced with the URI to the
file on your harddrive)

• Connection between Portal and MDM

Hi all
Can anybody help me on how to establish the connection between portal and MDM with step by step procedure.
i am new to this combination .
before i worked with portal but not worked with MDM .
Regards
Suresh babu

Hello Suresh,
As of my knowledge MDM IViews have the advantage to ful fil your neeed to provide connectivity moreover, that they are not complex in structure and are therefore not restricted by any underlying schema structure. As opposed to regular iViews in other systems which are embedded into the pages on which they appear, MDM iViews are more generic and granular in nature enabling their placement on a page to be more adaptable.
The SAP Enterprise Portal (SAP EP) offers templates for creating the iViews. The following are some examples of these templates available at the link:
Procedure:
1. Create a new page using the page wizard.
2. To see the iViews you created on the new page, you need to link them to the page. Right-click each of the iViews that you created and from the context menu, select Add iView to Page → Delta Link
3. Double-click the new page you created and select:
Page Content to view a list of the iViews that have been linked to this page
Page Layout to view the layout currently assigned to this page. The iViews can be rearranged using the drag&drop function.
4. The visual structure of a page can be changed with the Page Layout function. Select Define Layout to reset the layout of the page.
5. Select Preview to view the page showing how the iViews have been arranged. The preview simulates what an end user sees at runtime.
Detailed pictorial presentation available at:

Hope you will find it helpful.

• Login to portal from a 3rdParty Web site without logon promt??

Hi Experts,
We have developed a new WD ABAP Application thats available via IVIEW on the portal. Client wants to access this application via a Link in a website. Since he already validates user login to this Website, we need a seamless connection to Portal. Meaning when i click this link on 3rd party site
-NO PORTAL LOGON SCREEN should appear when user navigates to portal.
-i should be able to get the logged in user details. Client is ready to create USERs in Portal that are exactly same as the one existing on his webSite.
-Any password/credential changes in the Users data on this customer website should get updated in Portal.

Hello Eureka,
Why dont you configure NTLM...Kerberos authentication.
Using the above, as the user will login into his/her machine, the same credentials will be automatically passed to portal without any login screen and the portal can be accessed.
We are working on similar scenario as yours.
Warm Regards,
Ritu

• Remote access VPN clients connected to Internet from VPN

Greetings,
I need to let remote VPN clients to connect to Internet from the same ASA VPN server
" client connects to ASA through VPN tunnel from outside interface then access Internet from the same ASA from outside interface again
thanks

you'll need to configure 'same-security-traffic permit intra-interface' on the ASA .
Also, need to setup the corresponding nat statements for your clients pool range.
i.e.
global (outside) 1 interface
nat (outside) 1 access-list anyconnectacl
where anyconnectacl is the pool for your clients:
access-list anyconnectacl permit ip 172.16.1.0 255.255.255.0 any

• Open and close RFC connection with portals...

Hi Experts,
I created a RFC having a query which is taking a long time to execute. So i want to close RFC connection with portals which is via java connector(JCO) before that query and open the connction again after that query.
Please advice is it possible to achieve this. If yes, then how.
Regards,
Guddan

Hi Guddan,
I created a RFC having a query which is taking a long time to execute. So i want to close RFC connection with portals which is via java connector(JCO) before that query and open the connction again after that query.
I guess i will need to understand your requirement a little more in detail, as i understand you have an RFC which has a query within to fetch some data and is taking a long time to do so. In the meantime you don't want to keep the connection open?
My question would be, Is the role of this RFC to only execute the query and fetch the data or does it do something else?
If it does other things and these are independent of the query execution, then you can span a parallel call within the RFC to execute the query and in the meantime the RFC does the other things (or vice versa) hence reducing the overall time taken.
If the sole purpose of this RFC is to execute the query, then you will not be able(i mean to say there is no simple and direct way of doing this) to close the connection after the Query is started and re-establish the connection after its execution, for a simple reason that - how will you know if the query has completed it's execution, so that you can establish the connection back.
Alternate solutions, make this a two way asynchronous call, 1) You invoke the RFC asynchronously and close the connection, the RFC in turn will execute the query and transfer the data to JCO via another RFC call.
If this needs to be a synchronous call, then you will need to optimize the query to its best.

Chen
