Connecting to Safari via wi-fi

I have a good wi-fi signal but cannot connect to Safari, YouTube or iTunes - all I get is "can't find the server"
Any ideas please?

I'm not sure if your problem is DNS or in getting DHCP from your wireless.
You could try changing the DNS servers to use OpenDNS -- the addresses are:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.200
for more info - opendns.com
The other odd thing you show is the iPod's ip address. As you expect, the normal range of addresses that your router hands out will tend to be in the 192.168 subnet unless you've customized things. So it sounds like you may not be successfully connecting to the router to the point of actually being assigned an address.
One possibility -- your router may have reached its maximum number of DHCP clients. You may need to enter the admin function for your router and check that. If it is set to a maximum of 2, for example, your PC and PDA may already have taken all available DHCP licenses. The setting is configurable.
Also, check to see if you have any other kind of security restrictions. For example, are you sure you are connecting to the router? Is it password protected, and you using the correct encryption (wep, wpa...?). Also, is there possibly a MAC filter in place? On my home network I use the MAC filter -- meaning only machines I specify can log on, even if they know the password. I had to add the MAC address of my iPod Touch to the access list.
Or, are there multiple wireless signals in your area and possibly trying to connect to someone else's router? Don't mean to insult you, just trying to think of the possibilities that would explain the problem...

  • I cant connect to internet via network

My wifes iPhone 4S will not connect to safari via verizon network.  I've tried google, etc..  Search wheel just keeps rotating but not response.  It will connect via WiFi at home.  But when in the car and she wants to get directions it won't connect.   Is there something in settings I'm missing?
    Thanks.
    Greg

Hi Greg, you may find the following helpful:
Open the "Settings" app then press "General". Then proceed to "Network" and ensure that "Cellular Data" is toggled on. Try navigating to a website in Safari now. If this didn't work try going to "General" then "Reset". You will see a series of six options; select "Reset Network Settings". Try to visit a website once more. If you were unable to load the website try restarting the phone. If all else fails try bringing the phone to a genius bar at an Apple retail store for a diagnostic test.
    Hope this helps

  • Unable to connect to Internet via Airport Express - 'cannot contact server'

I'm unable to connect to the internet via my Airport Express. I'm using OS 10.3.9, and had the same setup with no problems at a previous address, but with a different modem from the same ISP.
My AE is connected - the light is green - and my mac is connected to the network in Internet Connect. But when I open Safari I get an 'unable to contact server' message.
I've tried rebooting everything (modem, AE, Mac), and leaving modem/AE off for several minutes. Also reset the AE, but to no avail.
The connection works fine via Ethernet cable.
    Any ideas?

Thanks, I checked out that advice doc (106798), but could not connect to the address (http://17.149.160.49) which is given to test if it's a DNS issue. My ISP says I shouldn't need DNS settings.
The service is PPPoE, and I went into Airport Admin Utility to check if the Airport was configured for this. Under Configure/Internet, I found it was set to 'Ethernet', so changed it to PPPoE. Then when I restarted I got connection status in the bar (and good Airport signal), but status flipped between 'looking for PPPoE host' and 'negotiating PPPoE host', sometimes sticking on one or the other each time I tried rebooting all gear.
    Any other ideas?

  • AirPort says 'connected' but Safari says 'not connected to the internet'

    I'm stumped.
I just replaced a failed HD. Installed OS from original disk. Airport shows strong signal and says "connected" but when trying to open Safari or check for software updates I receive a 'you're not connected to the internet' message.
Remember I had upgraded to Snow Leopard, so just installed that from disk as well. Same situation with the attempts to wirelessly connect.
Note - all other computers, smart phones, etc in the house can still connect wirelessly. When I connect the MacBook via the ethernet cable, it's fine. Problem is only with wireless connection.
Service is Verizon Fios. Have tried repeatedly restarting the router.
    Any other suggestions?

    John,
Yes, I've been running Software Update frequently over the last 24 hours (needed to update all the software on that new HD) said there were no updates at last check. However, followed link you provided above and installed the Combo update.
Was hopeful on initial restart after that install, as I rec'd a message to the effect of: "none of your preferred networks are connected". Selected my home network (which was listed and with strong signal), entered password and same result - not connected to the internet.
Took your advice above and returned to "Using DHCP" setting. Inital response was "no ip address" and then after short time, "self assigned ip address" "will not be able to connect to the internet". Tried "renew DHCP lease" and continually receive same result. All very frustrating.
My next step will be to try and connect wirelessly on a friend or family member's network (my local Apple store is a bit far away. Easier for me to visit the ones near my office during the work week).
If I am able to connect on another's network, does that indicate it's an issue with my router?
If I am UNABLE to connect on another's network, does that indicate it's an issue with my laptop?
This is so disappointing - the replacement of the HD was so easy, as was the reinstalling of software. This connection issue is souring what was a relatively painless and quick experience.
    Thank you again,
    Christine

  • No internet with Safari via ethernet, but it works via wifi

Both Safari and Software update cannot connect to internet via ehternet, although both Firefox and Terminal have connection. However, both of them work via wifi.

Have you verified your built-in ethernet settings? Most of the time all you need to do is select "Configure using DHCP" unless there are any special settings used in your location.

  • Why I cannot connect to twitter via iPhone?

I just cannot connect to Twitter via iPhone.
It started around 6 months ago, before it was working just fine.
    Important notes:
I live in China, dono need to connect to it via VPN.
Interesting thing is that in my iPad app I have no problem at all, can connect, place posts, etc.
Just in iPhone its not possible, not even connecting to the site via Safari.
Why's that? Anyone has any idea on how to solve this problem?

You have to buy Photoshop Express first. It's a In-App Purchase.

  • My IPhone 4S has lost connection to Safari web browser

My IPhone 4S has lost connection to Safari web browser

You will be able to track the phone as long as it is on and connected to a network (cel or Wifi). If you can't eventually recover the phone, you should erase it remotely via Find my iPhone.  Be aware that once you erase it, you will not be able to track it.
When you locked the phone, what you did was put a 4 digit passcode. That is not foolproof but safe for a time.
Has the phone moved/changed locations recently? If not, it ***could*** be that it is lost and not stolen. A smart thief would have probably erased the phone by now.

  • Airport Express: can't connect to internet via adsl modem

I have an old Airport Express which has worked fine in the past and a new ADSL internet account which works fine when I connect to it via PPoE Built-in-Ethernet. But despite following all the instructions in the Airport Setup Assistant I can't get Airport to work with the new modem (it works fine for AirTunes though). The thing is I don't really get how it could work with the new modem seeing as the Airport Setup Assistant doesn't ask me at any point what the username or password is for the new account.
I guess I'm missing something obvious here. Does anyone have any ideas what it is?

Thanks again, I tried that but it didn't work either. Going back to basics, it might help if I tried to set out what I'm trying to take in a bit more detail:
    1. Having just moved house I have a new ADSL line and modem installed by the phone company and a new ISP that has provided me with a username and a password. Using those I have no trouble getting internet via an ethernet cable connecting my iBook and the Modem.
    2. I plug the ethernet cable into my AX and then plug the AX into the wall.
    3. Then I follow the AX set up assistant guide for setting up a new base station.
    4. I click the box for DSL or Cable Modem. I don't click the box for Router
    5. This is the step I'm most unsure about. Because it is the default option I click the box for DSL or Cable modem ... or over Ethernet with an IP address assigned automatically using DHCP." I do not tick "I do not use DHCP". But I don't really know what that means.
    6. AX tells me that it is configured as follows: TCP/IP: using DHCP and IP Address: Provided automatically.
    7. When I open Safari it tells me that I'm not connected to the internet. Clicking the network diagnistics box gives me green lights for everything up to and including ISP but not for the internet.
Someone here mentioned that I might have to reconfigure my modem as a router. Is there anything to that?
    Thanks again for your help.

  • IPhone no longer connects to iTunes via Wifi

On July 1,12 my iTunes did an automatic update.  After the computer restarting and I entered iTunes and the following messages appeared:
Message 1: Must reinstall itunes to connect to ipod or mobile devices.
Message 2: CD/DVD folder must be located in itunes folder in order to use with itunes
I have 2 iphones (both 4s, bought at same time, both running iOS 5.1.1)and one will briefly connect to itunes via Wifi (I will identify this one as iphone1) but the other one will not (I will identify this one as iphone2).  I have a PC with Windows 7.
When iphone1 is connected to itunes via wifi is disconnects randomly.  Under: Summary > Version, it has the message: Connect this iphone using a USB cable in order to update or restore its software.  When I have it connected with the USB cable, there are no problems. The settings selected under: Summary > Options > are: Open iTunes when this iphone is connected, Sync with this iphone over Wi-Fi,  & Manually manage music and videos.  The Setting under Backup > Back up to this computer (where it backs up to; I do not know)
iphone2 does not connect via Wifi but used to.  It connects without issues with the USB. The Settings in iTunes > Summary are the same as iphone2 except that iphone2 is set as Backup > Back up to iCloud.
My iphone2 is my primary device.  I use it exclusively; for music, taking photos, syncing photos to my Photo Stream folder on my PC, etc.  The iphone1 is my spouse's secondary phone, so its not used as often (ie: only has 4 songs downloaded, used to take the odd picture, has a mirror image of apps from iphone2).
I searched Apple Support and tried the following solutions that didn't solve this problem:
How to restart the Apple Mobile Device Service (AMDS) on Windows (support.apple.com/kb/TS1567) &
Set the Apple Mobile Device Service Startup type to Automatic
I have not done this: Remove and reinstall iTunes and AMDS. I did goto the: iTunes for Windows: Device Connectivity Tests > iOS > iPhone - iTunes Troubleshooting Assistantand into iTunes > Help > Run Diagnostics.  The results were: All tests passed. (My iphone2 was plugged in with USB. The iphone1 was connected via WiFi.)
What do I do now?  Do I need to remove and reinstall iTunes? and if so will I lose all my itunes info (videos, music, apps, settings) or will it just show up after I install iTunes?

    Hi Mitch,
It sounds like you have already done many of the steps, but I would like you to look at this article -

    Wi-Fi Setup Considerations
Things to consider before you begin
Start with a plan for the physical layout. Depending on whether you have an existing Wi-Fi network, or if you are using your AirPort Express as a standalone Wi-Fi device, there are several options available for you to choose from.
When using Ethernet, Cat6 cable is recommended.
The layout you choose should take into account environmental factors such as physical access, location, range, radio frequency interference, etc.
You will need to consider what AirPort Utility settings to adopt.
You will need to know whether you are using an AirPort Express (802.11b/g) or an AirPort Express (802.11a/b/g/n).
If you will be using more than one Wi-Fi base station, it may be helpful to read the article Extending the range of your wireless network by adding additional Wi-Fi base stations.

  • I cannot find the 'WPA passphrase' to connect my printer via wireless and cannot find it in Airport utility (MAC says it cannot find any open airports)

    MAC OS X 10.6.3 - desktop Mac
I browsed similar questions and saw that someone recommended going to the Airport Utility and then selecting manual set up or something- anyways, it could not find any airports. I have brought my printer from my house as my BF's has died - this is the first time it's asked for a WPA passphrase. We tried a very long series of capital letters and numbers as well as the password for the internet and both times the printer said "invalid passphrase"..... ......

Airport Utility is for administration of genuine Apple Base Stations. If you have a different Brand, Airport Utility can do nothing for you.
    I think they're using ethernet.
To connect a Printer via Ethernet, no password is needed.
We already tried the password for the internet and that did not work...
If a password is required to connect to the Internet, then WiFi is likley being used, and that WiFi password is the one needed for the Printer connect wirelessly as well.
What make&model Printer? Is it indeed a Wireless Printer? Most connect via USB, but that would force it to use a specific computer to assist in printing.

  • My wifi is connected but when i try to connect to safari it tells me its not connect it says safari cannot open the page because it is not connected to the internet.. but the wifi is on and connected, i have tryed resetting the network settings

my wifi is connected but when i try to connect to safari it says the internet is not connected, i tryed resetting network system but still no luck.

Your iPad sees the WiFi network signal but obviously it is not connected to the network. Try rebooting your router - unplug it for about 30 seconds and then plug it in again.

  • My IPOD and Macbook Pro both will not connect to the Itunes store through Itunes says no internet connection, but I can connect through safari and I have a internet connection

My IPOD and Macbook Pro both will not connect to the Itunes store through Itunes says no internet connection, but I can connect through safari and I have a internet connection

As I mentioned above, I am not very tech savvy so I have no idea why a wireless protocol would be showing up there, I'm just listing everything I see in hopes that someone might know something I can try. This is why I am asking for help here - I'm not sure what has happened that has made me unable to connect, especially since it seemingly occured while nobody was using the computer.
I guess I should clarify that I'm not a total hillbilly- normally my firewall is set to 'on', but I set it to 'off' to try and troubleshoot the issues here as I was told that sometimes it can interfere with the computer's ability to connect to the internet. If this is not the case and firewall does not affect anything, I will turn it back on while I try to fix this.
I have tried the method you mentioned above a few times - I actually contacted my ISP earlier this week and they recommended resetting the router like that. They didn't mention any known network issues.
