Connecting to server over internet

It may be a silly question. But is it possible to connect to my X-serve at work from home using an Internet connection. If so what do I do? All I have is an IP address for the X-serve. Do I need remote access? All I need to do is access files and folders not control. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Have you tried Remote Desktop from Mactopia? http://www.microsoft.com/mac/otherproducts/otherproducts.aspx?pid=remotedesktopc lient
After you log into VPN, open remote desktop and put in the address or name of the server to connect. Hope this is of some help.

  • Client Computer cannot connect to server over internet (VPN)

    Hello Guys,
I am setting up a windows server 2012 Data centre for business purpose. I have installed & configured server with AD DC, DNS, DHCP, IIS, NPS, Routing etc.. I am able to connect client computers which is on the same domain to the server through same router.
VPN also work fine. But if I try to connect to the server via VPN through a different internet connection it won't connect. Can some one please tell me what I am doing wrong.
    My Network Confg is,
    DHCP IP ADDRESS FROM ISP
DHCP Disables Router, (Tried with enable)
Have my own website domain which is not linked with the server.
    NAT not configured.
    Thanks in Advance
    Emmanual.

    Hi Emmanual,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Can you ping to the remote server after connecting through VPN?
Did you find any specific error\event id for your case?
    What’s your client OS version?
If you are not getting ping successfully then seems there is connection issue through VPN. So for this you can initially check the connection setting with following article.
You Cannot Connect to the Internet After You Connect to a VPN Server
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/317025
There are several reason as client is not getting remotely connected to server. In addition you can checl following article.
Enabling remote client access over a VPN connection

    Hope it helps!

  • I can't update my ipod. When I check for updates it says "can't connect to server"(despite internet connection being fine). Also, when I try and update software it starts then stops after 2 seconds

I can't update my Ipod. When I check for updates it says "can't connect to server" despite internet connection being fine. When I receive a software update message;I say install and it starts updating then stops after 2 seconds. Help! (It is a 3rd gen IPod touch(I think)). Presumably as a result of this, I have tried to put my library onto my gf's new iPod touch and it just charges it..doesn't download my library onto the touch).

    Update Server
    Try:
    - Powering off and then back on your router.
    - iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
    - Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers
    Public DNS — Google Developers
    OpenDNS IP Addresses
    - For one user uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes resolved the problem
    - Try on another computer/network
    - Wait if it is an Apple problem

  • Opening BAM Server Port and Integrating BPEL Server over Internet

    Hi Friends,
I have a BPEL Process which has Sensor Actions to insert data to a BAM Data Object. BPEL & BAM Servers are on different boxes and have to be accessed over the internet. I want to know whether anyone can give me any pointers to manually open BAM Server's Port from a Windows XP machine to be accessed by a BPEL Server Process over Internet. Pl. provide detailed steps in case possible.
    Appreciate your help in advance.
    Thanks
    Ram

When you create the BPEL process (or after you deploy it) you can modify the bam server settings. In your case, I think all you need to do is supply the correct port -- 445 instead of 80
If you are doing this post-deployment you can go to the BPEL console, select the BPEL service and modify the connection settings by modifying the process' descriptor. You should modify the bamserver.port property. If you are not using 10.1.3.3, then there is a bug with the descriptor page that requires that you make sure you re-type in the bamserver.password field PRIOR to clicking update desciptor.
If you are doing it pre-deployment, you can modify the bpel.xml file in JDeveloper of your BPEL process. You will see the bamserver.port property defined in that file.

  • Can't connect to server from internet

    Hi
I’ve just set up a new Mac mini server with Lion 10.7.1.
It’s configured as "Host name for Internet".
I can reach the router from Internet. NAT on the router is setup to forward the the required ports according to Apple’s document "Well known TCP and UDP ports used by Apple software products"
Still I can’t connect to any service on the server from Internet (Address Book, Calendar, AFP, VPN)
    Please help!
    Asbjørn

You can test it from outside with a telnet connection:
Open Terminal.app (Applications > Utilities) and insert:
    telnet <ip-address-from-router> <port>
so testing the iCal port would be:
    telnet 123.234.45.6 8008
    or SSL:
    telnet 123.234.45.6 8443
When you get "Escape character is '^]'." the connection is established to the server/port.
When you get " telnet: connect to address 123.234.45.6: Connection refused  |  telnet: Unable to connect to remote host" something is wrong with the setup.
Maybe it's the Port-forwarding, maybe the setup of the server.
Is it working in the local network?
I also would recommend you, to NOT share AFP over the network! The traffic isn't secured in a single way! Instead just configure VPN and establish the AFP connection through that VPN tunnel, but not directly by opening that connection to the internet!

  • How to share an airport connected USB Disk over internet

    Hi all,
I'm trying to get my AEBS connected USB Disk to be accessible over the internet, so I can access it when I'm not at home.
In Airport Utility I checked both 'Share Disks over WAN' and 'Share Disks over the internet using Bonjour'.
I've also set a few accounts who can connect to it (instead of being guests).
    But what's next?
I can connect to the disk in Finder by selecting the menu-option 'Connect to server' and typing in 'afp://ip-address' (where IP-address is for the AEBS) as long as I'm in my home network, but I tried the same at my work but that doesn't work.
Do I have to configure the AEBS in some other way to make this possible?
Any help, advice would be appreciated.

Using the AirPort Utility, you will need to both enable File Sharing and configure the AirPort for Port Mapping. (Note: It is assumed that your 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) is the only Internet router in your current network configuration. That is, it is connected directly to a broadband Internet modem, and not another router upstream of it.)
The following are the basic steps to configure an AirPort Disk to be accessed from the Internet:
Start the AirPort Utility > Select the AEBSn, and then, note the IP address shown.
    Select Manual Setup.
Verify that Connection Sharing = Share a public IP address is selected on the Internet > Internet Connection tab.
Select Disks, and then, select File Sharing.
Verify that both the "Enable file sharing" and "Share disks over WAN" options are enabled.
Verify that Secure Shared Disks = With a disk password. (Recommended)
Verify that AirPort Disks Guest Access = Not allowed. (Recommended)
Select Advanced, and then, select the Port Mapping tab.
Click the plus sign to add a new port mapping.
For Service, select the "Personal File Sharing" option. (Note: This option would only allow Mac clients to access the AirPort Disks. If you want both Macs and PCs to connect, you would need to leave this field at its default value and enter the appropriate SMB ports to the mix of ports to be opened.)
In the Public UDP Port(s) and Public TCP Port(s) boxes, type in a 4-digit port number (e.g., 8888) that you choose. In the Private IP Address box, type the internal IP address of your AEBSn that you wrote down in step 1. In the Private UDP Port(s) and Private TCP Port(s) boxes, type 548. Click Continue.
In the Description box, type a descriptive name like "AirPort Disk File Sharing," and then, click Done.
    Click on Update.
To connect to the shared AirPort Disk from a remote location using a Mac:
From the Finder > Go > Connect to Server.
Enter the DynDNS-provided Domain Name or Pubic (WAN-side) IP address of the AEBSn, followed by a colon and the Public port number that you choose in step 11 of the previous procedure. For example: afp://www.mydyndnsdomain.com:8888 or afp://123.456.789.123:8888
    Click Connect.
You should be prompted for your user name and password. The user name can be anything you like; the password should be the Disk password for the AEBSn that you created in step 6 previously.
    Click Connect.

  • Connect two macs over Internet

Ok, here is basically what I want to do.
Me and my friend both have PowerMacs and we both have wireless networks. That aside...we live not so far from each other.
What we want to do is to be able to connect to each others' computer and view/download any files on a specific folder.
Is this possible? Just between us 2...

You can also connect to each other's computers by connecting via FTP.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh159.html
That way you'll be able to connect to your friends MAC by entering in his IP address in the GO>Connect to Server field and after authentication, you'll be able to access any/all files on his machine if configured as such.
    I hope this helps!

  • Connecting a cRIO over internet

    Hi guys,
i am working on a data aqq cRIO project which is working with headless datalogger architecture, so far it is deployed at a power plant in their local LAN some miles away from my desktop.
We want to send commands (UI.vi) from our LAN over the internet to the cRIO (RT.vi) 1:1, start FTP or SMTP communications, read data...
My question is now, how i get the url/ip of the cRIO to establish connection when it uses DHCP and for example it shuts down and get a new IP from the DHCP, or the switch has a deconnect and gets new ip?
Is it further possible to use network-strem vi instead of tcp vi to establish a connection from ui.vi to the rt.vi - i was searching for a straight answer y or no?
Looking forward to hear from you...
    weigsi

The whole point of DHCP is to hide the IP address (which can and does change) and replsce it with a name (which doesn't change). There should be no difference in you code except instead of passing an IP address to open the TCP/IP connection you pass a name.

  • Since updating to Leopard can't connect to server via internet

Since updating our server to Leopard I haven't been able to connect to it via the internet from home. Any ideas? Says verification failed when I try to re-add it. Ports 3283 and 5900 are open at both ends.
Edit: I just managed to access it using the root account. Any ideas why it's not working with the other admin accounts via the internet (they work when I'm local)?

It appears that the adding a user to the "allow access for" list corresponds to adding group membership, in the group "com.apple.access_ssh".
So, one way of brute-forcing a user into this list would be to add it to the group. One way of doing this at the command-line:
    sudo dscl . append /Groups/com.apple.access_ssh GroupMembership whatever-my-admin-account-is-called
This will require a password and only work for people with sudo permission, natch.
    CAVEATS:
    1) I have no idea what you mean when you say "local" users. What distinguishes the "local" users from the others?
    2) I do not know where the OS stores the information about whether or not the "All Users" radio button is checked. I just checked to see whether checking this box adds all users to the com.apple.access_ssh group, and I confirmed that it does not.

  • Safari not connecting to server. Internet working fine.

I keep getting this example response: Safari can’t open the page “http://www.cnn.com/” because it could not connect to the server “www.cnn.com” to every single page I try to open. My internet connection is fine b/c AOL is working fine. But I much prefer Safari. I read some other post and people said something about PicLens being a problem but I cannot find it InputManager in Library anywhere.
Does anyone else have an idea about how to get it connecting to the server again?
    Thanks!

    Hi tmac:
Extenders/haxies are third party code that some people install on Safari (bad idea, IMHO, but each person is different).
You may use your original software install (do not actually install) DVD to run repair disk.
When did the problem begin? Have you made changes before the problem began?
    Barry
P.S. I will be heading out of town, but will be able to check mail occasionally (I am not going away).

  • Publish DMZ server over Internet

I want to publish the dmz over the internet through outside interface

    Hi,
You can do that. We are missing some important information although i can give you an idea.
You can either forward only a specific port or service or you can map the server for the complete IP or all the TCP/UDP ports as well as per the requirement.
It might be different for different ASA software code so you can check the configuration guides for the NAT/PAT configuration syntax accordingly.
    ASA 8.2 and before:-

  • Connect 3 LANs over internet via airport Extreme

I have 3 offices for my small business and would like to connect all 3 LANs for a variety of operational reasons without getting a virtual LAN from the ISP (as this is cost prohibative and we have 3 different ISPs due to geographic locations).
I have heard this is possible via Airport Extreme, but I am unable to find any documentation on the matter.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks

Also should note that at the primary location I have a Mac Mini q-Core Lion Server.

  • Unable to connect 2 Macs over internet

    Hi,
Here is a situation that the tech support at my ISP seems to be clueless to help me with. I have an iMac G5 (OX 10.4.4) and my son has an eMac (OS X 10.4.3) He lives two miles away. I am connected to the net via a cable modem he has a DSL modem that is followed by an Ethernet Broadband Router to split his connection off to a PS2. I want to send some rather large files to him. His IP address is a 192.... which I have been told is the router and hence may act as a firewall. I tried having him connect the eMac directly to the modem and we got the same IP address. So the bottom line is we have tried turning things like file sharing on and off, trying to understand the network panel in system preferences, and somewhere we are doing nothing right because I cannot find anything that allows me to connect to him. The reality is I am not too technically oriented and he is 13, so is anyone able to explain this so that even a college grad can understand what to do? Thanx.

    Hey man,
The router is a Dynex-E401. I just found the companies web site and they have instructions for forwarding the router which when I can have my son available I will have him do. Unfortunately, I am not able to go into that house since the crazy woman who lives there does not like me, however I think he will be able to follow any instructions I give him. In the meantime I understand the concept regarding file sharing, etc. So I will try their instructions and if I have problems, I will repost, Thanx.
