Connecting to SQL DB on one VM from another VM

We have a working deployment of a production site using Azure.
We used Azure VM's to deploy a VM with SQL installed and a separate VM to run as the web server.
From our web application we connect to the SQL Database on the other VM by using the DNS name of the VM in our connection string.... something like :
Data Source=<Our SQL VM>.cloudapp.net
So this is great, it's working... but I'm not sure it's the best way / fastest / most efficient.
Given that both VM's are running in the same data centre can we connect directly using the internal / local IP of the VM rather than using the full DNS / public name?
I don't know a lot about IP... is the process smart enough to do something like "oh, hey, I can see that public IP for your SQL VM is in the same data centre, I'll go directly to it!!!"... or is it not quite like that, is there a really inefficient
process happening with our current set up where all our SQL traffic between our web server is going all the way out of the data centre into the public internet and then back down into the data centre.
If there is a penalty and it's a really small penalty then we probably won't bother changing anything (don't know about the static IP side of things, our VM's are installed as Vanilla / non expert installs).... but if it's hammering our performance or data
costs or something like that then we'd definitely change things.

I will strongly suggest you to create these machines in a virtual network and then use the internal IP address to talk to each other. This way you do not need to expose the SQL port 1433 through public endpoint as well.You need a cloud only network to start
with.

Also, if you need automatic DNS resolution for virtual machines, you should have a domain controller in the virtual network. If running a domain controller is not cost-effective, I suggest you to reserve static IP address https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/dn630228.aspx
and update etc/hosts file with hostname and internal IP address.
If you don't reserve static IP, after a shutdown and start up, VMs could have a different internal IP address.

I've got two tables:

I just got about 300 rows into t2 using sqlloader, and now I need to use t2 to update t1. t1 will have 3 rows per ex||elin, but t2 can have more or less rows per elin (which is the same as ex||elin in t1). If t2 has 4 rows per one elin, then that is 4 distinct pieces of data, and I need to make sure that t1 reflects 4 rows in its ex||elin, each containing the addressee||contact from t2. So I'll need to add a row to t1, as well as update 3 rows. Is this possible with just SQL, or do I need to write PL/SQL?
The following is the code I've been trying:
update t1
set t1.addressee =
(select addressee from t2
where t2.con_num = 'number'
and t1.con_code = t2.con_code
and t1.ex ||t1.elin_num = t2.elin_num)
This code is not correct, it returns more than one row from t2. Also, I'd need to concatenate contact onto addressee with a space in the middle, not just addressee, into t1.addressee.
Any ideas, pointers?

Forgot some info: Ora8.1.5 on win2kpro. Also, I was wanting to combine addressee||contact in the insert/update statement to differentiate one addressee from another in t1 after the data is inserted. We can have several addressees that are the same, but each one goes to a different contact for each record.

How to Call one EJB from another

Hi all
I am trying to call one EJB in one system from another EJB residing on diferent system...
Both are Stateless session beans ...
I can't use No-args Intialcontext() as i need to specify the Ip address of other system to be looked up.....
So i am using properties Dorg.omg.CORBA.ORBInitlalHost....
But its not looking up..Its telling not bound...But i called it from standalone client remotely...
Am i wrong..?

How to update one table from another

I am creating scripts in Oracle 10g. I have a table that has data corruption on three date fields.
I created a table with the following sql of all the affected rows:
CREATE TABLE LSU_INTER_FIX_DATE AS

where received_date < to_date('01-JAN-1900')
OR planned_start_date < to_date('01-JAN-1900')

I then repaired all of the rows with three data fixes

SET received_date = TO_CHAR(received_date,'YY-MON') ||'-'||(TO_CHAR(received_date,'RRRR') + 2000)

When you want to produce a DATE datatype when starting with a string,
you must use TO_DATE() on the SET line!
(TO_CHAR(received_date,'RRRR') + 2000)since when do you do add characters (from TO_CHAR) with a constant number (2000)?
You should NEVER EVER rely on implicit datatype conversion

First of all, synonyms only help you easy reference the object. It doesn't have any implication of object privilege.
As long as you have proper privilege on target object. You can access it with or without synonyms.
Assuming you have proper privilege of objects, you can use following command to assume schema owner.
ALTER SESSION SET CURRENT_SCHEMA = Schema_owner

i've some problem in calling a method of one class from another class within the same package.
for eg. if in Package mypack. i'm having 2 files, f1 and f2. i would like to call a method of f2 from f1(f1 is a servlet) . i donno exactly how to instantiate the object for f2. can anybody please help me in this regard.

This is what my exact problem.
i've created a bean (DataBean) to access the database. i'm having a servlet program (ShopBook). now to check some details over there in the database from the servlet i'm in need to use a method in the DataBean.
both ShopBook.java and DataBean.java lies in the package shoppack.
in ShopBook i tried to instantiate the object to DataBean as
DataBean db = new DataBean();
it shows the compiler error, unable to resolve symbol DataBean.
note:
first i compiled DataBean.java, it got compiled perfectly and the class file resides inside the shoppack.
when i'm trying to compile the ShopBook its telling this error.
hope i'm clear in explaining my problem. can u please help me?

The first thing I did was UPDATE. I have all the latest updates available (according to the updater). The Camera Raw Plug-in says it is version 8.0.
The RAW files are from a Canon T3i. It's a very common camera, I can't believe it wouldn't be supported.

I've only been programming in as3 for a couple months, and so far I've written several compositional classes that take MovieClips as inputs to handle behaviors and interactions in a simple game I'm creating. One problem I keep coming upon is that I'd love to access the custom variables I define within one class from another class. In the game I'm creating, Main.as is my document class, from which I invoke a class called 'Level1.as' which invokes all the other classes I've written.
Below I've pasted my class 'DieLikeThePhishes'. For example, I would love to know the syntax for accessing the boolean variable 'phish1BeenHit' (line 31) from another class. I've tried the dot syntax you would use to access a MovieClip inside another MovieClip and it doesn't seem to be working for me. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks,

I would approach it in much the same way as you would in java, by making getters and setters for all of your class variables.
Getters being for returning the values, Setters being for setting them.
So you would make a get function for the variable you want to access ala:

Then to access the value of that variable from outwith the class:

Do you still have your Aperture Slideshow project? Then open the slideshow and select the one of the green audio file clips in the film strip that you want to replace. Press the "delete" key and drag another audio file from the Media Browser directly onto the slide, where the sound should start.

I found a solution before read your post. I'm newbie and I ignore the use of colons. So, for do the problem that I explain in my post I must to change this code:

Can I Call method on one JVM from another through a dll?

Let me explain.
I have this java jar file that I can only have one instance of running at any given time. I'm using a shared data segment in a dll to store a bool indicating whether the program is already running or not. If it's already running, I have to not run the second instance and give focus to the current running instance.
The jar file calls a native method "canInstantiate()" on a dll to see if there's already an app running. If there isn't, the env and obj are stored in the shared data segment of the dll and we return true. If there is already an instance of the program running, I want canInstantiate call a function on the current instance of the jar (like a callback) to tell it to request focus. It's not working. Can someone tell me if my code is right?

...The rest of your question merely expands on your title.
And the answer to that question is no.
When you call a method you are executing a "thread of execution." A thread of execution exists only in a single process. It can not exist in another process.
If the dll is doing some interesting things then you could call a method that sets a flag. Data can move between instances. But you would then have to have a thread in that different process monitoring that flag. And sharing data in a dll is not a normal process, so it would have to be coded appropriately.
If all you want to do is set the current focus to the existing application, then that can be done with existing windows functionality. You don't need to do anything special in your dll. You can probably search these forums to find the exact code. If not there are countless examples in windows repositories (like MSDN) on how to do that.
