Connecting to the intrenet takes ages.....

I am using an MX100 and after about a year problems and nuisances are turning up more often. When I ask in other forums I sometimes get the answer, it might be the SSD.So I ask here too…. I use win 7 ulti with i5 and it took around 10 or 15 sec to start it all up. Now everything is still fast, except connecting to the internet. The blue circle keeps turning… the yellow triangle comes, followed by the red x… after a time of one to five minutes, suddenly it will connect. Anybody has an idea what it might be? Thanks, RD

I have to agree with squall, I found that hibernate story somewhere on the net, when I checked out the background on win 8, when it came out.Even if it would have been true, getting a start up time reduced from 12 to 6 sec would not have improved my life decisively. I do not use google, I use start-page, and I use a very, very old version of google earth. I do not update applications that do not need updating. I prefer the versions that were written in the good old days, when updates were not produced to sniff and make another little slice of money. And if there is one company other that google that I „trust“ with updates, especially when they come free of charge as Win 10 does, then it is microsoft.  Just last night I almost updated Ccleaner and found it contains four additional software installs, incl Opera, plus the whole set-up of OpenCandy. You see, it is not that simple: „ It's not that hard to set the appropriate options during install though (and a few after) you just need to read what you're clicking before you click it.“There are NO places to be ticked for many of those, the ones that were there I did click.I use advanced uninstaller, which later shows me all the sh** that was installed as a by-product.It also shows me that after uninstalling almost all software using THEIR own uninstaller, there are almost always files intentionally left on my computer when I use the un-installer the company provides.F.e., uninstalling Opera left 233 files on the computer! Advanced Uninstaller removes those, very recommendable software. And as you probably have have already understood, we are only at the beginning of the age, when EVERY download will be loaded with lots of garbage forced on you. But, I still wish I could have somehow found out why the time my computer uses to connect to the network has become a joke. God bless M$ for „system restore“… I have moved most of my stuff to the HDD, and use the SSD mostly for programmes. That is about 40GB, and a clean install of Win 7, plus all the software, takes a couple of hours.I find that reasonable to have a nice clean computer every one or two years. Thank You all for your help, we may not solved my particular problem, I still learned something new. Is there a special recommended new software to wipe the SSD completely before a clean install?

  • My ipod touch 2g a1288 wont restore. The download takes ages then ipod puts itself back in2 DISABLED mode, HELP!!

Ok so my ipod is making me really angry. If I don't figure this thing out today after trying for so long I think I'm going to take my car and repeatedly run the thing over until its in a million pieces.
Right now heres the long story which ill try keep kinda short but I do need to explain whats happened thus far
Ipod touch (2G), Mondel: A1288 which has gone into disabled mode and is basically useless at the moment.
Now I've done the thing where you hold the two buttons while plugged into laptop until itunes detects ipod in recovery mode. Then I try to hit restore, this starts up the download/ update thing which will not download because here in the dark ages of New Zealand our internet is slow. So because its so slow the ipod touch takes itself back into disabled mode! ahhhhhhhhhhhhh so FRUSTRATING
Now I'm aware that I can pre-download the firmware (which will still probably take ages but may save the ipod from timing out and going back into disabled screen) and then just hit control and select it when ipod is detected in recovery mode by itunes. The only thing wrong with doing this however, is when I go to the site to get the firmware from http://http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/ and look in the drop down menu of 2G ipod touches, I don't see my model listed there so I'm wondering what firmware I can download for the A1288? Is it compatible with a different version? because it wasn't even listed in the drop-down menu of ipod touches.
I just wan't the thing going again! they put these things into technology that make it useless because they know the average joe like me will just give up trying to fix it and buy a new one. Well not this time, if I cant fix this, I'm going to run the thing over and that will be that!
Many thanks for reading my speal, I hope somebody can help

lol yea when i inserted the link i just copied and pasted thats why that happend... Lets try again... http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/
Anyways when I go to it theres a drop-down list and you select the one you want and I know the number next to it identifies the model but the thing is they don't have my model listed so my main question is, what version eg. 2.1.1. or 2.2.1 etc. etc. etc. etc. will work with my model of ipod touch which is the 2g Model A1288?
Does anybody know? Does it work with any firmware thats for 2G ipod touches or do i have to get firmware thats model specific?

  • Optimizing video in imovie takes ages

Had to convert my sony video files ( using iV1 ) to M4V and when I import them to imovie the process takes ages. Please is there a way to make this quicker or to skip the optimizing stage? I am a bit of a beginner here !!!!  Thanks for any help.

    Hi Mowser,
I have not tried SD card yet (my camera has HDD and I have no SD card. I have the latest version of iMovie 08. I seem to remember that when I selected "import from camera" the "mts" files (or any file of AVCHD) remain grayed out.
Maybe since the system came all preinstalled, it has its glitches. MacOSX itself shows me the drive of the HDD immediately (or a dmg I created from it). Just all Apple editing programs wait a good 5-9 minutes before they take any action in showing the drive/importing. Once they do, all goes fine.
    thank you for your input!

  • Synchronizing previews takes ages

Since I use Lightroom on two computers, at home and at work, I synchronize my catalogue via a portable harddisk. That only takes a minute, but synchronizing the previews takes ages.
Why? Because the previews (around 8000 in my case) are stored in over 10.000 folders. So more folders than files!! It takes my synchro-program (FileBack) ages to compare files in so many folders. And that is even when no file has been changed - just to see if there is a difference between source and destination.
My question to the LR staff would be: why in so many folders?
My question to the readers of this forum: can I store the previews in a different location than the catalogue? So I can synchronize the catalogue and not the previews (as they are not so very essential).
    Thanks.

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}

    Bob,
    Try it over wireless.  .
No thanks!!  Even the slow usb2 is about 10 times faster, and if I was bothered about the time to sync, I could use my usb3 or esata ports. But I like the little 1TB WD Passport Essential 2.5" portable drives that are only usb2 at the moment. Wireless is just for hotels that can't afford wires.
But I take your point about the number of preview folders; I've often wondered why they need so many. Most have just one preview in them; some have two or three, and some have none!

  • The first upload takes ages! even after connected

    Hi all,
I have noticed a little issue I have when uploading a single file to the remote server via SFTP, The first upload will take ages about 30 secs before completing. The activity icon will stop on one quarter for this time and then complete when ready. I have no issues with uploading after the first file has been done. This happens each time i connect to a new FTP account. I'm not too concerned about the time delay, I just hope that the connection is not being interceptered by a third party or somthing.
Could it just be that DW is communicating with the server to secure it the first time around or am i paranoid?
    Using the lastest DW CC
    Win 7 Home Premium, updated!
    Thanks in advance.

Yes, this problem is pretty irritating to say the least.
FTP is the simplest of operations and the most fundemental. But ever since Adobe tookover Macromedia its just gone to pot.
Already I cant use the ftp for anything with more than 50 files and have to use a REAL ftp tool like fo;eZilla to who I dont pay a huge amount each month for professional software.
But waiting upto a minute for a 5kb file to upload is ridiculous. I might as well multitask with a third party tool. Nice one Adobe. I hope your shares are doing well.

  • When i log on to thunderbird, the in box has the message, 'building summary file', this then takes ages to do . how do I stop it doing this every time I log on?

    Hello,
This problem has only started happening in the last few days. Every time i log on the get emails, the inbox has a message saying 'building summary file'. it then takes ages to do this. i have tried deleting most of the in box and compacting the file but it still continues.

Try restart the operating system in '''[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safe_mode safe mode with Networking]'''. This loads only the very basics needed to start your computer while enabling an Internet connection. Click on your operating system for instructions on how to start in safe mode: [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode Windows 8], [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-7 Windows 7], [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-vista Windows Vista], [http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/boot_failsafe.mspx?mfr=true" Windows XP], [http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564 OSX]
; If safe mode for the operating system fixes the issue, there's other software in your computer that's causing problems. Possibilities include but not limited to: AV scanning, virus/malware, background downloads such as program updates.

  • Why does it take ages for my video files to be listed in the menu?

I have my apple tv 2nd generation connected to my airport extreme first generation via ethernet. I have my mac mini connected to the same network (though not connected to the airport extreme) with video files and tv shows in itunes. My itunes media is stored on a hard drive connected to my mac mini and home sharing is on.
It takes ages for my apple tv 2 to list the videos/tv shows in its menu. For example I have my films listed by genre. If I select a genre, it takes sometimes as long as 5+ minutes to list the videos within that genre.
Can anybody help with this frustration?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You probably have a problem with your LAN. If you are using wifi:
You can download and install iStumbler to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel.

  • Since iTunes update takes ages to connect to library

I am not sure if its connected but before on my modest library of tv shows I could connect to it in around 3-4 seconds. Since the update it takes ages, around 20-25 seconds. Once it connects everything is fine and it does connect every time.
    Has anyone else noticed this?
Also when I first got the tv the buttons were nice an responsive, you pressed a button and something immediately happened. Now you press a button then it takes 1-2 seconds before anything happens. This leads to all sorts of mishaps including the supremely annoying 'shuffle songs' now in each album right at the top.
Anything I can do about this?

Loading time does seem a little longer, I agree. It also depends on the size of the library, my main library used to take about 40 seconds, now it takes longer, however some of my smaller libraries load in about 15 seconds.
When the library has loaded and the menu appears for the first time there is a small delay until the menu becomes responsive, but this is the only time this does this for me. (first menu after a change of source)

  • BC4J, compiling: takes ages to compile when connected to network

    Hi,
    We have a BC4J project that's almost
    100% wizard-generated from an Oracle 8.1.5
database and we have been experiencing a very strange behaviour in JDev. What happens is that it takes ages to load and compile the project when the computer is connected to the network. Just unplugging the network cable more than doubles the speed. The database and JDev are on the same machine: a Pentium III 550, 512MB using JDK1.2.2.
We would appreciate any comments on this behaviour.

athelas wrote:No, I removed it since and I removed eth0="dhcp" and wlan0="dhcp", because that is in the profiles. Yes I am still experimenting with all that stuff but I didn't know which deamons can be backgrounded and which not.
This is off the actual thread topic, but I background everything except syslog-ng because I do want to see logs in case something goes wrong during boot. Also you have hal in your daemons which is deprecated. If you still  use apps that require hal, then by all means keep it in the array, but if you don't then that's something you can get rid off.
fam is another that can be replaced with gamin. gamin does not require to be run as a daemon. if you don't use printers then you can get rid of cups. if you don't have network storage or any reason to access drives across the network then you can remove netfs as well.
Just some things you can look into.

  • Ever since i updated my phone to iOS.6 I have troubles connecting to the internet and the app store and iTunes app take longer to load

It keeps saying 'Unable to join' with my home internet and my work internet, i have forgotten both networks several times, but with my home one it keeps disconnecting with my work internet connection it connects but sometimes asks me to join then comes up ' Unable to join '
The App Store and iTunes takes ages to load, sometimes it is quicker without internet!!
I could get onto both of those apps quickly with the previous download, i current have iOS. 6
    PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

I have no more tricks up my sleeve other than maybe it is a firewall issue with your router.
You can tap or click on the heading below and read Apple's take on the issue. I really don't hold out much hope though that his kb article has any more to offer to you, but I am out of ideas now.

Iv got Sophos anti virus which is saying theres no malware or viruses, also tried restartiing, re downloading chrome, deleteing my profile from chrome, exporting, deleting and then importing bookmarks and hardwiring the latop to the router. None of these fixed the issues.
Never had these issues and they are really getting on my nerves! Any help would be appreciated.

    Can you help please?

Thanks King_Penguin for taking time to read and reply.
I just purchased this movie on Thursday, May 15, so just a few days ago.  I have never had any trouble whatsoever since I have been in Vietnam.  I have downloaded several movies and even music and they have all synced to my respected Apple products except for this purchase.
Sorry, I don't quite understand what you mean by studios and different versions.  Could you please explain?
I checked my purchased list in my purchase history under my account and there are no hidden items.

  • When I connect to the hotel wireless, it takes 2 or 3 minutes to be redirected to the login page

    Hi all,
I have a problem with my Firefox 4 beta: when I connect to the hotel wireless, and I start the browser, I should be automatically redirected to the hotel's main login page.
In FF4b I get 2 error messages (attached) and I am not redirected immediately... it takes 2 or 3 minutes to be redirected.
If I don't want to wait I have to start IE, make the login, and then get back to FF4b.
I believe this situation is connected with the "Test Pilot" and/or the "sync" function of FF...
Any ideas about what I should do? Any setting I should change?
    Thanks,
    Tozé
