Connecting to the school WLAN

Hello all, I have some problems connecting to the school network.
When I am using my notebook, I have to go through these procedures before using the internet:
1) After I connect to my WLAN, I go to Internet Explorer -> Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections -> Lan Settings
2) And then I have to tick: "Use a proxy server......connections)", type 192.168.0.5 for the proxy and 8080 for the ports.
3) Then I have to tick the Bypass.....
4) After I clicked OK and stuff, I load the webpage again, and it would ask me for the school account and password.
However, after I entered the proxy and port in my 5530 (Settings -> Connectivity -> Destinations -> Internet -> WLAN Name -> Edit -> Options -> Advanced settings), the phone did not ask me for the user and pass, so I was not able to connect to the internet and when I try to connect to internet, the following message shows up: "Web: Secure connection not available"
Can anyone help me please?

In that case, open the browser of your phone. When it finds the hotspot you accept it as the accesspoint and a webpage will open where you can fill in your password en username.
‡Thank you for hitting the Blue/Green Star button‡

we recived  ipads today in school to use as a tool and they said if i sync it to my itunes my itunes will be erased and all the ipad stuff currently on there would be erased the second i connect to the school i was wondering if this was possible? i already pointed a couple things that they said was true but were false like useing that find my ipad thing were it just zooms in on your location they also said it would beep and they can track it anywhere witout a 3g network which we use the wi fi. teachers can connect to itunes i belive becasue they don't have the same rescrtictions as use students but early in the year they said one teacher tried and failed with the results that said would happen to  use. besides ristrictions like loseing the app store and not being aloud to open any app wemb adresses we are to add  music via the itunes that i already on the ipad. i was just wondering if there full of it right now because i think they are.

If I were a teacher setting up iPads to be used at school/work, I wouldn't link it to my personal iTunes, rather I'd create/use a different one. If for no other reason than to keep the kidlets and your fellow teachers from possibly accessing your account.

  • Connecting to the office WLAN

I have open WLAN on our office.
The WLAN is open and (there is No WEP, WPA, etc.)
when I am using my laptop I need to enter username & password on the first explorer page that I open.
This system is very similiar to any hotel's pay WLAN.
I can't connect the N95 to this network.
    Does anyone has any suggestions?

    Hi all.
I have since bought an apple Airport Express. I bought this one as it seemed to have the best reviews and simplest setup, which suits a networking novice like me. I connected it up, via ethernet to my home network, which comprises 3 PC's on a wired network all sharing access to the internet via a cable modem and a printer. I am using an old netgear firewall/router. I let the Airport Utility software setup the AE as a new wireless network and it seemed to pick up the IP address, the domain server name and everything else it needed. I then went in and manually set the AE up as a bridge as it seemed to be picking up its IP from my netgear router rather than from my internet service provider.
My N95 connected to the AE first attempt without any problems and I am able to surf the net and check my pop3 email account. The only problem is that my main computer doesn't have a wireless adapter, so after initial setup, it can't see the AE. I got around this by using a laptop which has a wireless adapter - I can now tweak the settings as necessary.
So first impressions are positive. I now have to take the AE with me on the road to see if it is possible to connect to a wired network in a hotel. First opportunity to do this will be late Jan. Will report back then for those interested.
    Regards,
    Allan

  • Other macs are connecting to the wireless no problem.  mine finds the wireless and connects, but I can't browse the internet at all.

I am a teacher.  My Macbook has had no problem all year long connecting to the school's wireless until yesterday.  My computer tells me I am connected, but does not let me use the internet at all.
    Things I've tried:
    - Restarting
    - Running Network Diagnostics (I get to the point where it says my internet appears to be working correctly... but it's not)
    - Pinging websites like Google (no success)
    - Checking to see that other people's Macbooks are connecting, no problem (they are)
    - Checking to see if a browser other than Safari works (Firefox does not)
At home, my computer works fine.  But at school (work), I've got nothing.  Weirder still, in my Mac Mail, I have my Gmail and my school email set up.  The school email (i.e. the local network) is coming through to Mac Mail and working normally, but my Gmail is not working, just like the internet.
Any thoughts about what to try next?

  • Problem with Safari **Safari can't connect to the server**

My internet is working fine, but I keep having to refresh the page because I'm always getting "safari can't connect to the server".  Same thing happens with different browsers.  I've read a couple things online and unistalled everything that I think is causing the problem but it's still happening frequently.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Most school networks are closed networks. You can access their Intranet, with all the files and peripherals and everything, but you need to have a specific password or IP address to access any outside connection. I have an ibook G4 that's 3 years old. I used it in high-school to access AOL wirelessly. That was before closed and protected networks were prefered. It shouldn't matter if the school intranet is widows based or not. You need to access your own internet service sometimes in order to get any reaction. If you simply use safari, you might only be connecting to the schools intranet, which only links together the schools computers and keeps the system isolated. Also, you need to check your firewall settings, in fact, just turn off the firewall. The schools sytem is firewalled up the bum and you shouldn't get attacks anyway because you're running the mac os.
You might also try an alternative approach. Go into a computer lab, access one of the systems, then go to control panels and look up every connection you can find. Take down all of the info and then see which matches up with similar info on your mac. Then go to another pc and look up the same info again. Is it different? How? Then take that listing to the system administrator and show them. They may not know that a mac has a simpler interface than the pc, so you may have to do some prodding to get them to take a look. If they still tell you it wont work, you could try boot-camp or a virtualizer (to let you run windows alongside the mac os). If you use a virtualizer, you can get your own copy of windows and then share it's connection to the main system to the mac.

  • Need help connecting to High School wireless...Please help

Hey guys, I'm having trouble connecting to the schools wireless... It will connect but I can't use it. It shows a full 3 bars of range but nothing works. I go to settings and try different things but I get the same result. I have all of the information but I don't know how to bypass whatever setting they have here at the school. You have to have a username and password but i've tried entering that. Maybe I'm doing it all wrong. If anyone has had a similar problem or knows where to point me that would be great.

    Hi Ryan,
Does the iPod get a self-assigned IP address, like described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TA26003 ? You can check by tapping Settings> Wi-Fi> the blue arrow(>) next to the Wi-Fi network.
If it does you may not be entering the correct information.
If it gets a good IP address(not 169.254.x.x) try launching Safari and browsing to any page or the schools active portal page.
You will most likely have to contact the network administrator, if the iPod does not get a valid IP and/or it will not browse to any webpages.

  • Airport will not connect to my home network after trying to connect to my school's network. Need help!

Airport on my Macbook will no longer connect to my internet network at home. I was on campus using my university's network today and now Airport only wants to connect to it and will not change back to my home network. It has something to do with the 802.1X, and I don't know enough about networks to know what that does. Is there someway I can just reset my entire airport settings to where it would be like the first time I used my Macbook and configured it to my home network?

Is there someway I can just reset my entire airport settings to where it would be like the first time I used my Macbook and configured it to my home network?
Did you Shut Down the Mac and then power it back up?  Can you connect to your home network now if you click the fan shaped AirPort icon at the top of the Mac's screen?
If your home network name does not appear, click Join Other Network, then click Show Networks.
Click the name of the network that you want to join and enter the password if required
Are you saying that you want to delete the connection to the school network from your Mac?  If you do this, you will have to setup the connection again if you head back to the school.

  • My brand new mac pro always had Internet connection issues at school. WHY is that? I see the school's Internet working perfectly fine on other PC's, but there is never a day where my mac doesn't have Internet connection issues at school. How do I fix it?

I got my mac pro in the middle of August. School started the week after. Internet was working perfectly fine at home. But at school, I never had a good connection. Sometimes on the good days I get a connection when I'm sitting at the exact spot in class I always sit at. It's ridiculous and it's frustrating. I invested my money into this laptop and I'm beginning to regret it. I thought it was the school's Internet, but I don't see Internet issues with other PC users. It's most frustrating on registration days and I'm trying to register for my classes before it gets taken, but again... Internet connection issues. It's random. Majority of the time, it doesn't work at all. I've done Network Diagnosis and turning WiFi off then turning it on again. I've done everything I could. I put my money on this laptop and it was a lot of money. I could have bought an 800 dollars laptop and I would have Internet connection anywhere on campus. So, I don't want to continue everyday to regret on buying this laptop every time I try to connect to the Internet at school or Starbucks or anywhere else. How do I fix this? What's the problem ?
At school, I heard this guy had a problem with Internet connections too and he owned a new mac book pro. He said something like Apple messed up on something, but he fixed it. If I knew mac book pro's had these issues I wouldn't have bought it in the first place. It's freezing on me every other day. It's ridiculous. But what concerns me the most is the Internet connection. So someone please tell me what can I do next to prevent the problem? Am I doing something wrong maybe?

    Hi Kevin,
I'm using an XLR input mic which is connected to the phantom power enabled XLR mic socket on a USB M-Audio M-Track. The M-Track is connected by USB to the Mac Pro - so effectively I've got an M-Audio USB soundcard with a mic input.  I've also tried a microphone that is a straight XLR to USB cable (guessing with some soundcard chip buried in the usb plug) but that also yields the same effect of bad latency, intermittent quality, stuttering and repeating and echoing (without the speakers on during record so its not feedback).
The mic works absolutely fine with other recording applications I have on the mac at the moment - albeit non-adobe ones (tested it on the EasyAudioRecorder - and it lives up to its name. it's easy)
I will try with Audition and report back, but sitting here right now I can imagine it would work fine with audition too - it just seems to be the way premiere is set up for recording into the timeline is a bit sketchy.  I'm willing to accept it might well be a quirk with the new Mac Pro trashcan - I'm not weighting all the woes on premiere.
Any thoughts or am I out of luck to sit with my fingers crossed for a fix in the next round of updates?
    Nathan.

  • I can't connect to my school's free wifi. i was able to do it before but not anymore i get the self assign ip agrees message .it has no password only a pop up window before you connect to agree to school terms for wifi use. i don't get that window anymore

I can't connect to my school's free wifi. i was able to do it before but not anymore i get the self assign ip addrees message .it has no password only a pop up window before you connect to agree to school terms for wifi use. i don't get that window anymore. i tried everything I can think of. It is a 2010 macbook pro but i recentrly updated to osx lion and even with lion it was working fine so I nkow it is not the update. also Im able to connect to other internets at home it works great. starbucks too.  but i became so frustated that i reset my computer to manufactuter setting and reinstall snow leopard on it. still I cant connect. I need help please i have been searching all over the web for help and i see people has been having this same problem for years now.. oh yeah and i know it is not the internet cuz there are other macs connecting to it without a single problem so i think it is an isolated problem plase help....i have follow many advises such as delete the internet from your prefered netwoks. restar your commputer etc etc.

Be sure Safari does not have the Block Pop-Up Windows preference set.
Where I work now there are several unencrypted VLANs that require authentication, and Safari promptly pops up a window for me to register every time.

  • Got a new MacBook pro but for some reason I can't connect to my schools wireless. It doesn't have a problem connecting to any other wifi. My schools network is unsecured all you do is login with your username and password but the window never loads

I jus got a MacBook pro and Im having trouble connecting to my schools network. It is not secured and only requires to login with school id. A Window pops up to sign in but it never loads anyone know why I'm having this problem? Doesn't have a problem connecting to any other wifi

"This is a flaw in OS X Lion. It does not want to connect to open WiFi that has a login page that open in a browser."
Nonsense, no problems logging in at sites that you mention. I use OpenDNS servers. For the OP try:
System Preferences>Network>Advanced>DNS. In the left side column click on the + sign and insert the following:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
Then click OK, then click Apply.

  • I can't connect to the router in my home.  Things were working fine as usual - I attended school and connected to their WiFi network as usual.  When I returned home I could not connect to my own home router.  The Ipad seeks the network but nothing happens

I can't connect to the router in my home.  The Ipad seeks the network but nothing happens.  I went to school and connected to their WiFi network as usual with no problems.  When I returned home I could not connect to my home router.  The Ipad seeks the router number but nothing happens.  I rebooted the Ipad a few times in the school.  The numbers identifying the router, etc. on my Ipad no longer appear there.
TThe Ipad guide says to connect to the WiFi use setup but I can't find the setup program in the Ipad.
I reset the network settings to the factory defaults but this doesn't fix the problem.
What can I do to reconnect to my home router?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Libretto U100 looses often connection to the Wlan hub

    Hi
I am having problem with my wireless network card. I am often loosing connection with the hub. I read on another forum that it maybe a good idea to update the drivers. I have never done this before and I want to ensure I do it correctly. Can you please let me know the exact steps?
    Thanks in advance.
    Kind regards

    Hi
The driver update is not difficult. First of all you have to find out what Wlan card you use! This can be checked in the device manager under the network adapters.
Open this tree menu and check what Wlan card was installed.
Then either you will check the Toshiba driver page for the newest updates or you will visit the Wlan card manufacture website to download the newest version of the Wlan driver.
Mostly such driver package includes the setup.exe file. This file must be executed. Thats all. But if the setup.exe will fail then you could install or update the driver via device manager. There is an option which allows you to update the driver. You have to choose the driver download source and the windows will update the old driver. Thats all.
