Connecting to TV or other Video/Audio Devices

Hi,
I am rather new to the Media/Technology scene in terms of inter-operability of the hardware. So, if you could please just help me out with a few NEWBIE questions.
1.) Why do my new speakers only out put sound when I plug in the input cable to the Headphone slot instead of the adjacent Audio Input slot... to some of you that may be a dumb question. So what is the Audio Input slot for on my Power Book?
2.) Is my Powerbook compaitable to hook up to most recent tv models? A friend mentioned I will need to use the S-Video adapter, but it looks like I need another cable, colored yellow. Which I'm supposing is a video cable. Is there a special video cable I need for the S-Video Adapter to TV or just any old Video Cable from Radio Shack will do?
3.) What and how practical is my DVI slot? What exactly do I hook a DVI slot too? And what is the DVI Adaptor for usually?
Sorry for these stupid questions, but I just want to make sure I get the full usage out of my PB. Thanks alot gang.

Hello Tomio, what are friends for?
1) You've answered this one yourself! The 3.5mm socket marked with the headphone symbol is the audio OUTPUT from your PB. The socket next to it with the funny symbol (a microphone apparently) is the INPUT to your PB.
In other words it's a one-way system; you can only use the socket that's going in the right direction!
2) Yes your PB will provide a video output to a TV Set. If you have S-Video you can just use an S-Video cable to make the connection. You will need to buy this - Radio Shack will certainly sell them. Otherwise you use the S-Video to RCA adapter that came with your PB and then you buy an RCA-RCA male-male lead and plug this into the adapter. Yellow is the code colour for video.
You then need to mess around a bit with the "Displays" section in your System Preferences. Details are in your manual.
3) The DVI slot is to enable you to connect to an external monitor; not usually a TV set, but a dedicated display for your computer. It's the most common way of making this connection. The adapter is because it's not the ONLY way to make that connection. Some monitors have a different configuration, and someone else will be along very shortly to give you more details on that......

I got output audio file and able to hear voice on UBUNTU system but not able to hear voice on MAC system.
I heared that default line in ( audio setup of the sys) is wont take any voice data on MAC.Why I made this stmt means we are getting false when using isSupported methods of JAVA SOUND API.
( like for TragetdataLine ...i,e, all ports are getting false)
I have one sample audio recording app implemented by QUICKTIME API. In this case also he taking audio ftom device only using quicetime API.
With that we are able to record and hear audio ( voice input --> not line in , external device we added some thing like SSB...)
3) In case of Video capturing DataSource, Streams are implemented by PullBufferDataSource , PullBufferStream intefaces used.
In case of Audio capturing DataSource, Streams are implemented by PushBufferDataSource, PushBufferStream intefaces used.
Can you explain the reasons ? I gone through API but i am not clear.

JBL Charge not working on a Windows7 PavilionG6. Connected but not showing as an audio device.

I have a:
HP Pavilion G6-1242sa
Product: A5H10EA#ABU
Serial: {Personal Information Removed}
I am using Windows 7 64-Bit.
I am trying to pair my JBL Charge Bluetooth speaker to my HP Pavilion. I have installed the latest drivers for the speaker from Ralink. I am able to detect and connect the JBL Charge through my Bluetooth dongle . The device is added and installed as a Bluetooth device when I connect my computer to my Bluetooth speaker. All seems good.
But I cannot see the Bluetooth speaker in my Playback Devices when I right click over the speaker icon. When I right clik on the properties of the device in my Bluetooth device I am given the tabs of:
General, Hardware, Services, Bluetooth.
I am not given the option of Audio!
I have installed the HP Wireless Assistant and can only see my Wireless LAN Adapter. Bluetooth is not showing at all!!
I am able to turn the Bluetooth on and off in the notifications area via the Bluetooth icon though.
Please could you give me some advice on how to resolve my issue as I am not sure if its a sound problem or a bluetooth connection problem.

Hi Mario,
I have been through the help documents regarding Blutooth but have not found my problem unfortunately.
I have downloaded the drivers for the device from Ralink. I tried to download the drivers from Broadcom but whenever I ran the installation I got the error message saying that it did not detect any Bluetooth devices, even though the Bluetooth speaker was on discovery mode.
Strangely, my HP Pavilion G6 can detect the Bluetooth speaker in discovery mode and is able to pair to it. But when I open the HP Wireless Assistant, Bluetooth is not shown. Nor is the device shown as a playback device in sound settings. Nor is there a way you can right click and open a connection to the Bluetooth speaker in Devices and Printers > Bluetooth Devices > JBL Charge.
I have tried downloading all sorts of driver software from HP but nothing seems to work. I cannot think of anything else to update on my computer to maybe shift something into place.
Below is a screen grab of all the sp's I have used to resolve this problem. Nothing is working!!!
Is there anything else I can check or configure or try??

My wifi connection is slow when other computers or devices are online

We just purchased a refurbished 2008 iMac. We have installed all of the software updates but we are having problems with connectivity. We have an exisitng wifi network that supports 3 other pc's. When the Mac is online first, the other pc's have little or no connectivity. If a PC is online first, the Mac is slow. There is usually one two devices online together at any time.

Try this:
1. Close all apps in the Task Bar. Double-click the Home button and hold apps down for a second or two. Tap the minus sign to close app.
2. Hold the Sleep/Wake and Home button down until you see the Apple Logo.

My iPad used to automatically connect to Bluetooth audio device, but now it has inexplicably stopped doing so.

I have an iPad 2 and a Logitech Wireless Boombox. It used to be that on powering on the Boombox, the iPad would connect and make it the default audio device. Now, I have to go in to settings and connect explicitly. It's been like this for the past few days or so and I can't see what could have caused the change.
It's not a major problem, but I'd like the old behaviour back and I find it disconcerting when unexplained things happen.

Well, in case some future googler finds this thread, for some mysterious reason it is behaving as it did originally again. Still none the wiser as to why.

Windows 7 x64 USB AUDIO DEVICE - Device Not Working - Mac Pro

I have a mac pro early 2009. I had vista x64 installed, everything was great. I had 2 audio devices under device manager, one was listed as HD (digital) and one device was listed as analog audio.
When I played games and wanted the external speakers (using the digital out connection) I had the HD (digital) audio device enabled.
When I played games and wanted to use a headphone/microphone combo, I had the analog audio device enabled.
Switching between the two was as easy as clicking the audio device icon and clicking on whichever device I wanted.
Now that I installed windows 7 x64, I have a HD (optical out) device in device manager and it works perfectly. Unfortunately, I also have another device listed called "USB Audio Device" and it shows a yellow exclamation mark next to it and it is NOT working properly.
I tried many suggestions on here, which included downloading the cirrus logic audio driver and picking different models, as well as trying the snow leopard install disk driver for cirrus logic, and even tried installing the realtek analog driver. The closest I got to getting anything to work was installing the realtek analog driver. It installed fine up to the point when windows said "this driver is not tested, do you wish to install it anyway?" and I click yes, but then it pauses for a few seconds and the same message comes up again and repeats in a endless loop until you say "no, do not install driver" and then it does a uninstall of the driver.
Has anyone else experienced this problem and if so were you able to fix it?

You can ignore USB audio, you want RealTek HD Audio. There are or can be some of those yellow alerts that are safe to ignore. Buried somewhere in Apple Support BootCamp technotes.
You can use installer from Realtek or zip file in which case just uncompress and update the driver from inside Device Manager. Nice thing, you can rollback a driver if you want to, or totally uninstall and then reinstall.

How to connect a video capture device to Satellite M30X 127

I'm going around in circles trying to find a video capture device that will function with a laptop and would be grateful for advice. By way of example, I'm now looking at the 'Canopus ADVC-110', although still looking around (but not Pinnacle, who seem to have a terrible reputation for capture items).
Problems include:
1. Main problem is - many video capture external devices require a 'line-in' to PC for good quality audio transfer. This laptop doesn't have a line in, only the mike and headphone jacks. In addition, I've also tried a few RCA pins in the 3.5mm microphone/headphones jack and they were too small. How to solve the problem of getting audio from vcr to my PC?
2. The ADVC-110 connects to the PC via Firewire (and S-video), but is a SIX-pin type. M30X is a FOUR-pin type. Are there adapters available?
3. Some capture programmes seem to require huge capacity of RAM. Is a laptop going to be suitable to do the job? (I simply want to capture old vhs tapes from vcr to PC, then burn to DVD with Nero 7 or similar).

You are right! You must use external device for signal transfer to your notebook. I dont know where you have this info but I have good experiences with Pinnacle product. For data transfer I have used USB port.
'Canopus ADVC-110 is not known to me but I dont see any reason why this should not work well. Use delivered software for video capturing and there should not be any problem.
Only thing is that after recording the whole video material must be prepared for burning and unit need a lot of power to do this well und fast. When you buy this and want to use on right way I recommend you to expand RAM to 1GB.

I'm trying to connect with another iMac G5 and we can chat with text but when either one of us tries to connect video/audio, we get the message 'There was a communication error during your chat.' 'iChat encountered errors while communicating with participants in the chat.'
My friend is at work and I'm at home. Does that matter?

The message will have an Error number.
Error 8 is a network, port or NAT issue.
Error 22 is the need to change System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming to 1.5mbps/T1/LAN and restart iChat
Error 7 is a secondary firewall on one of the routing devices such as Denial of Service protection (QoS, DOS or SPI) which either needs disabling or resetting to allow more data before it cuts in.
Error 20 is a "No data for 10 secs" error and can be caused by the same things as 7

Dave I'm glad to say that it works perfectly but I'm embarrassed to say that my 12 year old nephew hooked it up in about 10 minutes.
If you have the Kanex Mini DisplayPort cable it will work, what confused me was changing the display settings in System Preferences,
and dragging the mac screen from the mac onto the tv. Sorry I cant be more helpful but you have the right cable now you need a 12 year old nephew.

USB audio device loses output connection

I use a MobilePRE USB interface and had no problems until recently. My iMac is set to never sleep but if I do not use the computer for a few hours the output from the MobilePre is gone.If I change to the driver to the internal headphone output on the Mac all is fine but in order to use the MobilePre as output I must restart, then it is fine until the next day or a few hour later.
The same time that this problem developed, about a month ago, I also noticed a low level snap or popping sound. This happens through my external speakers and is triggered by any sound activity approximately 30 seconds later. It even happens with the volume turned all the way down and sounds like a connection is being made. Like I said these two problems started about a month ago around the time Apple was sending a lot of updates. I have read a long thread on the OSX forum and know this is a pervasive problem with no solution yet. I mention it here as a curiosity as it started around the same time as the USB audio device problem. My hunch is that it has something to do with a recent update.
I don't think this is a GarageBand problem because it is the same no matter what software is outputting. I ask on this forum because there some knowledgeable audio heads here.

I may have already resolved this issue buy removing the device from my computer and re-pairing it. It is currently working just fine.

Thanks Gary, I think I should have mentioned that I have wired my other speakers and it works fine.
I just wanted to go wireless when presenting in front of class, simply to avoid trailing wires from the macbook which I position in front of me on a desk next to the projector and the speakers are behind me next to the screen.
I have struggled to find a solution, and reading through other discussions it is a problem that perhaps only Apple can solve.
I hope the new 'Yosemite' will resolve the problem.

Thank you for the question. I'm assuming you are not receiving any sound from applications when playing video/audio content. If this is the case, the first thing I would check is if the side switch is set to silent as this can cause applications to be mute. Below I have included an article that covers adjusting the settings for the side switch. Also, make sure to close all applications in Multitasking and power cycle the device. Test the sound issue after processing these steps.

'Connection to Audio Device failed' - constant Bluetooth message

I have a Blackberry Torch and keep getting the above message, despite there only being 3 paired devices, each of which works fine when on. The message repeats every 3-5 seconds whenever I'm in the house, but no other device can be found on search.
Any ideas?

To better assist you with this issue, what types of Bluetooth® audio devices are you connected to? This message appears when you are out of range of the Bluetooth® device, you may want to disable your Bluetooth® when you are in your house this would stop the prompts from Bluetooth®.
