Connecting to two networks at the same time

Hi Kadin,
I am looking for the same answer for a long time. I have two situations that requires to connect to two different metworks and that is when I travel with my portable Linksys router WRT54GC .
1. I stay at a hotel with a wireless Internet network connection and I try to use the network to access the Internet and then (2) I also need to access my external Maxtor harddrive to which I am connected through my portable router WRT54GC .
2. I have an almost identical situation but instead of the hotel network now I have a brand new T-Mobil cell phone made by ITC, which is called Wings and it uses a new way to connect my laptop to the Internet by using a Windows Mobile 6 Internet-share connection, which basically connects my laptop to the T-Mobile network and assigns it a IP address.
The problem that I have is that in both cases I can connect to each one of the networks separately but not simultaneously.
Any advise as to how this can be done. I also tried the Wireless WET54G as a bridge with similar negative results.

Ok not real clear on your setup, but here is the "networking answer" why you can not connect to two networks.
A device must have an IP address on the same subnet of the device you want to establish a connection or an IP route must be known to the network routers, since your internal address are most likely in the reserved private range, no internet router is not going to know how to deliver the packets to the correct hosts.
the simple answer is assign a secondary IP address to the network adapter on your laptop.
In the windows IP address properties for secondary address you can not set a default gateway. Windows only has 1 default gateway.

I have an imac desktop with 10.5.8 running. I have a wireless network with my timecapsule and a printer connected to it. We have two mac computers in the house
that print wirelessly via this network. I also have the internet coming in via a wireless modem/wifi which both computers use to go online. The trouble is everytime I want to print from either computer I have to change back and forth from the internet/network to the timecapsule/printer network. This is really fumbly and I wind up having to restart all the time because the printer gets locked up. It's just a big hassle. Is there any way I can be on both of these networks at the same time or is there some other way I can configure this?

Yes, you can reconfigure the Time Capsule (TC) to "Join a wireless network." In this case the wireless network would be the one created by the other wireless Internet router. In this configuration, the TC can still share its internal (and external) hard drive and a printer attached to the USB port. However, note that this would disable the TC as a router and an Ethernet switch so basically it will perform as a wireless client.

Two Networks at the same time

For various reasons we have two entirely separate networks that we do not wish to create into one big network. Is it possible for me to connect to both networks simultaneously ie one through a cable connection and one through Airport, so that I can use one for internet access and the other for file sharing?
As I understand it, the cable and wireless network cards in my emac are two separate entities, each with their own MAC address, so shouldn't this be possible in theory? One problem might be that I don't want to create a bridge between the networks that would enable computers on either side to see each other.
Any advice gratefully received.

First restart your mac and try again.
It could be
that the router and the TC are interfering wirelessly with each other.
You can check this by pressing the option key while clicking on the wireless icon on your screen
Open Wireless Diagnostics
enter your user password
Press CMD 4 then Scan
You will see all the wireless channels being used in your location and you can check if they are on the same channel
Make the SSID for the TC simple like MyTC
Set 5Ghz to auto
Update the TC
Try again

Can i power my iphone from the mains and connect to my mac at the same time

Here is my dilemma, my daughter dropped my wifes iphone in the bath and it will now only power up when plugged into the mains. When plugged in it cannott find the sim and according to the local apple store the wifi antenna is also broken.
We are not bothered about the phone it is the 1500 photos and videos of our girls which we dont want to lose. The phone hasnt been backed up recently and she is not registered with icloud so that is out the window.
So, i thought that if the phone could be powered by the mains and somehow connected to my pac at the same time i could perhaps get the photos synced and then the phone can be traded in at the store for a £119 replacement, thank you by the way Apple!!! you pay full retail for a product (£419) and all you get told is "your phones knackered, that will be £119 please"
It worht pointing out that the USB doesnt turn the phone on when connected to the mac.
Is there such a cable in existence which has two usb leads from the iphone dock connector??
I just cant beleive that the photos and videos cannot be accessed and saved by a company that always tells us they are cutting edge and ahead of the rest of the market, especially as the phone traded in will get, repaired, wiped and sold on as a refubed phone, if they can do that they can get us our files off.
Anyway, any advice, assitance, product reccommendations would be very very welcome.

How, exactly, would you propose connecting it to both an AC power adapter and your computer when it has only one dock connector? If you don't want to set it on fire, I wouldn't try.
If it can power on when on AC power AND it can connect to either the cellular network or WiFi, plug it in and power it on and e-mail the photos to yourself. Not the most elegant solution, but it beats losing all of them. I assume you were not in the habit of backing up very often.

Does Dreamweaver have the ability to open two websites at the same time?
I basically have a CMS hosted on one server, that connects to my clients sites on other servers. I want to be able to open files on one server and edit them and also edit files on another server at the same time.
If this isn't available in Dreamweaver, then I think it should be. I often need to copy code from one page in a site to another page in different site. To have the ability to have two windows open, each connected to a different website server would be invaluable to me. By having separate windows, each can have its own server connection. I don't know how easy that would be, but I'd love it!

You can only connect to one site at a time. And you need to edit files locally, save & then upload to the remote server. AFAIK, no single FTP app is capable of connecting to more than one server at a time. You might be able to do what you want with DW open and an additional 3rd party FTP client like Filezilla, each connecting to different servers.

Cannot open two pictures at the same time - computer crashes

I have PSE7 and Windows7. I cannot open two pictures at the same time. When I go to open the second picture it crashes PSE7. Anyone know how I can open two pictures at the same time? What is the fix?

Yes, your method is actually the only workaround for a workplace with PSE7, but it isn't a solution for our enterprise network/domain.
There are different problems:
We have several computers with PSE7 installed. It does not make sense to manually install a local TCP/IP-printer on each PC.
We have many fluctuation in our company which means that the workplaces will often be moved and the PCs will often be replaced.
If the employees are printing over a local printer, our centralized printer monitor solution does not recognise print volumes.
The printers which are defined on our print server have special tray settings and these settings are "linked" to the core business application. Users should not be able to print with other settings, this could end in a chaos.
Finally to work with PSE in our company, there is no other way than upgrade to PSE8...

Singletons running on two servers at the same time

Hello,
          we faced one interesting situation with our application, running on clustered BEA Weblogic 9.2. We implemented some Singletons (ie. Singleton Service in a Weblogic cluster) and they are running fine. Most of the time.
          Common scenarios: cluster is started -> the singletons run on one server; the server is brought down -> the singletons are started on the second server.
          However, we had recently two situations where the Singletons started on both servers! Here they are:
          1) We use Database Migration Basis and we have a dedicated table for Weblogic to capture current state of the singletons. Due to the fact that database (Oracle RAC) was partially available one of the Managed Server could not get the lease and probably assumed that no singleton is running, therefore started the singletons locally.
          2) Network outage: we had several minutes where none of our servers could communicate between them (neither between SASU MS nor with the database). Consequence: each MS decided to start the singleton locally (after some time, which I assume is the waiting time). Once the network came back the servers could communicate again but the duplicate singletons are not deactivate, so they are running in parallel.
          Anyone experienced the same or similar issues? How to prevent the above? Is the Consensus Migration Basis a better choice? (I think yes for #1 but not for situation #2).
          Any helpful answer is appreciated.

In general its not a good idea. Running PSConfig will try to establish a lock on the configuration database. Doing that from two servers at the same time may cause the update to fail.

You have a 1st Generation Time Capsule.
Your model can produce two bands....either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz....but not both simultaneously.
You would need a Generation 2, 3 or 4 Time Capsule for simultaneous dual band capability.

Actiance Vantage server duplicates the IM details and both Active Active Vantage servers connection is not established at the same time

Issue with the Actiance Vantage server.
Env: Lync 2010 Server , Vatage servers - 2 active , 1 passive
Commn: FE contacts HLB to reach Vantage servers
Recently we have added one vantage servers to the lync environment and made two vantage servers as Active.
After adding 3rd vantage servers and made two vantage servers as active , we are seeing the following behaviours:
1) archived messages are duplicated with different transcripts ID
2) Two active servers connections were not established at the same time. Only one is active at all times. There is four front end servers.

Did you receive any error message?
Please disable the third Vantage server and test again.
Please check if all services started for all FE servers and Vantage servers.
You can enable logging on FE servers for further troubleshooting.

DSL Internet and Firewire Windows network at the same time?

I've got DSL internet via ethernet port on my Macbook and Firewire network with Windows, but it seems they can't work at the same time. If I turn DSL on first than firewire won't work and vice-versa. My guess that's because of the way MacOS X choose which port to use as Windows Sharing. Is there any way to choose manually which port to use?

I'll try to explain this problem as full as possible.
I've got DSL modem which is connected to Macbook via Ethernet port and Macbook is the only thing connected to modem. Then I've got Windows XP machine which work as storage. It doesn't have internet connection and I don't want to share my internet connection from Macbook with it. The only thing I want is File Sharing. Everything work fine if only Ethernet or Firewire plugged. The problem is they can't work together. If drag Built-in Ethernet to top then Mac tries to connect to Internet via Ethernet and it tries to do File sharing via Ethernet too. As the result Internet is working and file sharing is not (it sets ip address of file sharing to Ethernet's ip address). If I drag Built-in FireWire to top then Mac tries to connect to Internet via Firewire and it tries to do File sharing via FireWire too. As the result Internet is not working and file sharing is working (it sets ip address of Internet to FireWire's ip address). I think when Mac starts searching for networks according to Network Port configuration list it found first network and stops searching and network that I set on top is working and another is not. Maybe Mac can be only at one network at the same time? That's why I asked is there any way to set ports for Internet and File Sharing manually?
