Connecting to Windows Computer via wireless network (Password issue)

I have a wireless network set up at my house, and we all can see each other's shared computers, and the windows machines can connect to each other without a problem.. but my Mac cannot connect to them, but they can connect to me. When I goto "Connect to Server" it asks me for a username and password for the windows machine.. I don't know what to do from here!!! Please help, thanks a bunch

In your Sharing panel, did you go into "Options" and check the box for sharing via SMB?
Then from XP you should be able to reach the Mac via //(ip# or DNS name)/
and you should see the available shares.

  • Connecting MacBook to printer via wireless network

I have a wireless network via cable modem with some PCs attached and a printer but am having trouble connecting my new MacBook to the HP LaserJet 2100 printer via wireless. I do not have airport express and not sure I need it to have the MacBook print to this printer. Please advise.

    Hi topgunner,
How is the printer connected? Are you trying to share it via a PC through wireless? Or is it connected directly to a router/hub that is enabled for printer sharing?

  • 58" Cloud TV...can no longer connect to Windows computer via MediaShare

Have a Dell all in one and 58" Toshiba Cloud TV. Love the TV, but have had nothing but trouble with the MediaShare function. Sometimes it finds the computer on my network, sometimes not. Now won't at all for the last week. Have tried rebooting computer, TV, and wireless router. No effect. Dell is running Windows 8.1 and has file sharing and network discovery turned on.

mcafee is a horrible piece of software along with norton the only reason they have tons of users is because they pay pc makers to preinstall it and most nonTech users just pay up after the 30days of free virus scanning

  • Cannot print from Macbook Air to Lexmark x2650 on Windows XP via wireless network (Linksys e1550)

Unable to print from recently purchased Macbook Air via wireless router (Linksys e1550) that is connected Windows XP which is connected to Lexmark x2650 printer.  Macbook Air is connected to wireless router and able to access internet.  Windows XP printer is set-up for sharing and I am able to see and add printer from Macbook Air.  I have installed Lexmark 2600 series driver on Macbook Air.  Macbook Air sends print job to print queue and print job is released from queue but does not print on Lexmark printer connected to XP.  Any suggestions?

Hi Wade, and Welcome to the dicussions.
I think it's how the PC is setup and interpreting the Mac's drivers, should just pass them on I think, but here's a way to get most any Mac to print to most any printer on an XP machine...

  • Need Help Connecting New MacBook Pro with Wireless Network Password

    Hi Linksys Community,
I would like to ask for your help and advice.
I recently purchased a new MacBook Pro, OS X, Version 10.8.3.
I need to setup a password to the wireless internet network (I've successfully done this)
    I have a Wireless G,  WRT54G Router.
When I setup the password, I'm not able to connect to the internet with my new MacBook Pro, which is running Mac OS X Version 10.8.3.  I get the message 'cannot connect to Internet, connection timeout) However, I'm able to connect to the internet with an older MacBook Pro, and my iPad. The password works fine with other models.
Would anyone be able to help me troubleshoot what is going on, or how I can solve this problem?
I would like to be able to have a password on my network, and use the internet with my new MacBook Pro.
I have read about manually adding in the MAC address of computers, and setting up a Wireless MAC fiter.
Does anyone think this would solve the problem?  if so, how can I find out the MAC address of my MacBook Pro?
Thanks in advance for you help and time!

    Hi,
    Thanks for your response.
Yes, my computer connects when your network is open (no password set)?
    I used WPA Pre-Shared Key.
Do you know how I could check if my new MacBook Pro is compatible with this?
    Thanks!

  • Unable to connect to Deskjet 3545 via Wireless Direct from Windows 8.1 laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad E530)

Hi, It's a newly bought printer. I am unable to connect to the printer via Wireless Direct from Windows 8.1 64bit laptop. I have enabled the Wireless Direct with security on the Printer. Connected to the Printer SSID from my laptop wifi. Created the new printer from Driver software. It discovers the printer with it's name,IP etc; Upon selecting the printer and click on 'Next' button on the screen, results in a 5 min search process and finally displays that it could not connect. I have tried pinging the printer and it's able to pingf the IP of the printer successfully. I have even tried disabling the Norton antivirus, but result is the same. regards, sathwik

  • Hp v40 on xp desktop and is shared via wireless network. laptop with windows 7 wont print on v40.

Can't print from laptop (windows 7) via wireless router .to desktop (windows xp) with usb attached HP v40 all in one.
    Laptop (7) ----- wireless router ----- desktop (xp) - -usb-- HPv40
Worked when laptop was running xp.
Laptop spools print job to desktop and seemingly completes, but the desktop simply ignores the print job.
    No error messages.
printing from the desktop work just fine.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I am reporting this as solved. I submitted this problem. The problem started when updated my laptop from Windows XP to Windows 7. When I did, The Lexmark printer on my desktop worked find with the new laptop system. The HP V40 did not work. The Desktop simply received each print job submitted from the Laptop (via a wireless local network) and discarded it. I could see the print job come into the V40 print queue and could see it disappear.
Here is what I did to solve the problem:
I tried a dozen or so combinations of removing and installing the printer on both my Windows 7 laptop and my Windowx XP desktop (with the V40 attached via USB), and manually removing and installing print drivers on my desktop  PC, it finally works. What did I do? I have no idea, but I believe that manually removing the v40 drivers on the desktop was part of the solution. While viewing the available printers on my XP desktop, I clicked on File and one of the tabs led me to a place where I could remove drivers for each printer ( I just removed the ones for the V40).
Here is what I DID NOT DO:
I did not follow the advice of the HP support person that I contacted via the telephone. That advice was to reinstall Windows XP on my desktop. That clearly was not the problem when I spoke to him. But he would NOT listen to reason. Thankfully, I have enough PC knowledge to know that his advice bas bogus
I am pleased with the resulting availablilty of the V40 again.
I have no idea how to officially close this problem.
I would be happy to discuss this with anyone else who has a similar problem, but when I submitted this problem with my name and email address, the moderator removed my problem submission. Hence, I think anyone who wants to know more is out of luck.

  • C4750 Connection via wireless network to my Mac

My C4750 Photosmart Printer is connected to our home wireless network and the home PC can print to it no problem. I'm trying to set up my Mac to be able to print to it also when the Mac is connected to the same home wireless network.
From the System Preferences and Printer menu on the Mac, I can see the printer and can see it sitting "idle" and when I try printing a job it says "In Use" and the print job appears on the Printer icon with the "1" indicating it has one job waiting and it says "Connecting to Printer" but the print never starts.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi MaciHawk,
I did some investigating and I found that no actual software and driver package is available for this operating system on your Mac.  We can try to check the Apple updates for anything new or we can try the HP Printer Drivers v3.0 for OS X.
Other than that, the only thing else we can do is upgrade the operating system on the Mac.
    Thanks for your time.

  • Remote desktop connection from windows computer to TC

    hi all,
what I have: I have a TC 2TB, bought it three months ago.
what I did: I have set it up at home. Using as base station for all my devices, iphone 4, ipad 2, macbook air and also other laptop. My TC is connected to ADSL modem with an ethernet cable (as expected). with port forwarding option of ADSL modem (in NAT Properties), I managed to forward any connection to TC. I have a static IP by the way.
what I can do: from work or anywhere else other than my home network, I can connect to my static IP (via "Connect to Server" option in any mac device), it pops up a user name and password window, I login with my TC user name and decive password. In an instant my TC disk is mounted on my desktop, and I can reach all my files in it as if it is an external hard disk.
what I cannot do: from a windows computer outside my network, I cannot connect to TC. I try to do this through "Remote Desktop Connection". Is this possible? If so how? Is this a problem related to network connection or TC settings?
    aakibar

You cannot remote desktop into a TC..
In fact you cannot remote access a TC from windows.. sorry.. but SMB protocol is blocked on the internet.. there are work arounds but no security.. don't do it.
The only other protocol the TC offers is AFP.. there is no AFP file access software available for windows. You need to use a Mac.
The best alternative is vpn.. replace your current adsl modem router with a vpn one.. eg draytek.. then you can access your home network. Since I presume when you say you have static ip you mean public IP then vpn is easy (well once setup it is).. reliable and secure.

  • Connecting HP Laserjet P1102W to wireless network (then getting drivers!)

    Hi,
My macbook pro and HP LASERJET P1102W seemed to be communicating just fine when I had snow leapard.  Post update to Mountain Lion, problems.
I have gotten the printer to work when connected via USB, however not consistently.  (Often it cannot recognize when paper tray is filled, cannot do two sided printing and has other issues perhaps connected to the fact that software is missing?)
I have read the documentation on HP site, noting that the only way to install drivers is via a network connecton and airprint which requires a network connection.
Not sure this is the right place to ask this, but I will for now:
How do I connect my printer to my network, which is a new home network as I just changed from DSL to Cable?
Note:  I had not previously ever connected my printer to my wireless network and set it up to work with Airprint, though that is one of the reasons I bought it.
Once I do connect the printer to my wireless network, perhaps then I can try to follow the steps on the HP site   http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03425022&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en &os=4142&product=4110396&sw_lang=
If anyone has experience with the above, I would love to hear it!
Final question:  Is plugging the printer into the back of the new cable modem via ethernet or USB perhaps a way to put it on the wireless network?  Not a convenient location, but if only alternative, I would try it.
    THANKS!
    Ani

    Dear Happy-to-Help,
I appreciate you logging in to help. I shall give this a shot in the next couple of days when I have more time and let you know how it goes.
I have been quite frustrated by the fact that HP says if the HP Laserjet P1102W has worked fine with Snow Leapord and one upgrades to Mountain Lion, all the drivers will be automatically upgraded/updated (or whatever the term).  That has not been the case at all.   It took quite a bit to even get my computer and printer to talk to one another via a USB connection—with none of the functions of the printer (as noted above) working properly to this day.
I hope your suggestion works.  Will be back in touch to let you know.

  • Graphite Connects to Someone Else's Wireless Network

When I startup my eMac (10.4.8) I sometimes cannot connect to the internet via Airport. I discover, upon launching Internet Connect, that I am connected, but not on our wireless network. Instead, Airport shows me connected on something called "linksys" (which I assume is a neighbor's wireless network), and the signal is very weak. I can switch to our network via Internet Connect & all is well, but it's a hassle having to go through this every time. It used to be that I'd immediately be connected to our own wireless network & Airport upon startup. Help! How can I "teach" my Airport to always connect via OUR network & not "linksys"???

Try each of the following, in order, until resolved:
    1. Run the Disk Utility to repair Disk Permissions.
    2a. Delete Preferred Network(s)
    - System Preferences > Network > AirPort > Configure
    - In the "By default, join:" pull-down menu, select "Preferred networks"
    - Delete the network(s) you regularly use from the list
    2b. Delete AirPort Keychain Entries
    - Launch the "Keychain Access" application located in Applications/Utilties.
    - Click on the "Kind" filter at the top, and look for any "AirPort network password" entries...and delete them.
    - Restart, or log out then back in.
    2c. Add Preferred Network(s)
    - System Preferences > Network > AirPort > Configure
    - In the "By default, join:" pull-down menu, select "Preferred networks"
    - Add the preferred network(s) using the "+" button.
    - Restart or log out then back in.
    3. Create a New User Account
    - Create a new user account.
    -- System Preferences > Accounts
-- Click "+" to add a new account
    - Log off, then log back on with the new user account.
    - Try connecting with the AirPort.

  • Problem connecting MBP to established Linksys wireless network

just got MBP 2.16 (my first mac!). Having trouble connecting to my established linksys wireless network. I have the BEFW11S4 (V.2) etherfast wireless access point + cable router with 4 port switch. Currently have 128 encryption enabled. The linksys router is broadcasting its ID (I can see "linksys" on my mac) but it seems to not accept the password. I tried entering the 26 WEP key, the passphrase, the WEP key in quotes, the WEP after a $ sign... all to no avail. please APPLE community, help out a mac noobie before i have to turn back to Bill Gates....
    Dell Dimension 8200, MBP 2.16   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   2 GB SDRAM

To find the IP address or the status, go to system Preferences then network. It will show you the status of any internet connections. You should see one for Airport, it will either show a green light and say 'Airport is connected to the internet' (or something like that) or a red light and say 'Airport is is active but not connected' (something like that). If you double click on Airport or click 'Configure' you will see tabs, click on TCP/IP and it will show all of your details including your IP address.
As for the other, it always refers to wireless networks as 'Airport' and that response is the standard response from a Mac.
the password should be typed in the hex section, not sure about the $ sign. I've never had to do that before. But if you can't connect even with no encription then I would think it is another problem. I would turn off the encription until you can at least get connected and then you can worry about the security afterwards.

  • I can't connect to Windows Server via FTP

I've been using FTP for about 13 years and it works fine on Apache servers but can't connect to a windows Server via my Fetch FTP program. The site owner sent me a screenshot and copied/pasted the password so I know I have the info correct. It is still giving me errors.

  • Connecting HP Officejet 6100 to wireless network with OSX 10.9.5

    Running OSX 10.9.5.
I'm trying to connect HP Officejet 6100 to wireless network without HP software since the software claims it is not compatable with my OS.
The printer works fine when connected via USB.

    Hi @dj2thew,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums! I see you are trying to add your HP Officejet 6100 to your Mac running the Mavericks 10.9.5 Operating system.
Because you are using the Mavericks OS X you must install the printer using the Apple Updates. Please click on the link below, this document explains how to install the print driver on a Mac for a USB or a network connection. The OS X v10.9 Mavericks driver for your printer is available through Apple Software Update (ASU). Additionally, you can perform basic print jobs using AirPrint without installing a driver.
OS X v10.9 Mavericks: Installing and Using the Printer on a Mac
Once you have installed the OJ 6100, you may notice the features you once had are limited or there are workarounds, for scanning with or without HP Software see below:
How to Scan: OS X v10.9
    I hope this helps!
