Connecting to windows workgroup wifi

I am trying to print from my iMac G5 through a windows workgroup wifi network at home using an HP printer but no success

Do you know if you have the correct print driver for the HP printer on you iMac?  Get the model number for the printer and go to the HP website and download the current driver for that printer (for non-intel-based Macs).
Maybe that will help.
Good luck.

How do i connect to windows workgroups using kerberos authentication?

in the finder select "Go" then "Connect to server" and enter "smb://servername/sharename"
kerberos is an authentication scheme, not a protocol. In order for it to work (when it's not broken), you need to be logged in with kerberos credentials.

  • Lost connection to Windows workgroup

I cannot figure this out. I have had Macs & PC's networking fine for years, but the following just happened to me with a month old MacMini.
The MacMini is running Snow Leopard. It has been able to network with a Windows workgroup and access all the computers & connected printers. As of yesterday, none of these computers show up in Finder under Shared or Network. I used to always see the Windows workgroup under Network, but now it does not appear.
I have tried everything that I can think of, but cannot find where this is going wrong. I am able to access the MacMini from the Windows machines (one running XP and the other running W7), but not he other direction.
I am able to connect to the Windows machines by using Finder>Go>smb:// method, but this doesn't get me to the printer.
After years of effortless shared printing, I'm at a loss.

See if this web site can be of help:

  • Got a new MacBook pro but for some reason I can't connect to my schools wireless. It doesn't have a problem connecting to any other wifi. My schools network is unsecured all you do is login with your username and password but the window never loads

I jus got a MacBook pro and Im having trouble connecting to my schools network. It is not secured and only requires to login with school id. A Window pops up to sign in but it never loads anyone know why I'm having this problem? Doesn't have a problem connecting to any other wifi

"This is a flaw in OS X Lion. It does not want to connect to open WiFi that has a login page that open in a browser."
Nonsense, no problems logging in at sites that you mention. I use OpenDNS servers. For the OP try:
System Preferences>Network>Advanced>DNS. In the left side column click on the + sign and insert the following:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
Then click OK, then click Apply.

  • 2011 17" Macbook Pro constantly drops Wifi connection on Windows 7 but not OSX. What's going on???

On OSX, the Wifi works perfectly. I rarely if ever get disconnected from the internet. However, when I switch over to Windows 7, the internet drops constantly (every 30 seconds or so).
I recently updated my OSX to the newest one (I think Yosemite) that released in December, which wiped out my Windows 7 operating system. Thus, I reinstalled windows 7 on my computer and everything works just like it used to except for the internet dropping 24/7. The weird thing about it is that whenever I "diagnose" the internet connection when it drops, the internet seems to come back to life again (for the short 30 seconds that it's up). I'm not sure why it's doing this. The internet didn't drop constantly on my previous Windows 7 until I reinstalled it.
The internet works fine with a different internet connection on Windows 7, which makes me think that the problem has to do with my internet or router... Has anyone had this problem? Restarting the router didn't do anything.

Do yu have any other Macs running Yosemite on your WiFi Network?

  • T500 Windows 7 Wifi Connectivity/Missing Drivers

A few days ago, my T500 (Windows 7 Ultimate, 32-bit) crashed and went through a startup recovery process. When it was finally logged into Windows, I was unable to detect or connect to any wireless networks and Google Chrome (my primary browser) was gone.  After I couldn't find any restore points when running Windows Restore, I decided to just manually restore the missing components. I was able to connect to the internet via ethernet and reinstall Chrome (albeit missing all of my bookmarks and plugins), but still had issues with the wireless connection. Windows Network Diagnostics returned "There might be a problem with the driver for the Wireless Network Connection adapter," but was unable to troubleshoot the issue.
Windows Device Mangager showed no missing network adapter drivers, but under "Other devices" each of the four items were missing drivers:
    Base System Device (x2)
    PCI Serial Port
    PCI Simple Communications Controller
I've downloaded a number of drivers, (including several variants of Inter AMT and the Multi Card Reader, as suggested by similar threads), but none have addressed the four missing drivers. All attempts to update the drivers were unsuccessful.
Could the missing "Other devices" drivers be causing my wifi issues?
Are there drivers I can update them with?
Is an updated driver available for the wireless network adapter (currently 12.4.1.4; none of the downloads have updated it)?
Is it possible to recover my data from the old installation of Chrome without any backups or restore points? (obviously I should have been backing up my data)
    Thanks.
Lenovo T500, Windows 7 Ultimate (32-bit; upgraded from Vista Ultimate 32-bit), T9600(2.8GHz), 4GB RAM, 256MB ATI Radeon HD3650, Intel 802.11agn wireless (Intel Wifi Link 5100)

I ran sfc /verifyonly and sfc /scannow; it said there some corrupt files and to check CBS.log. The file was fairly long, and I couldn't really discern any relevant information from it. Ctrl-F didn't find anything related to the driver. I don't know what, if anything, was fixed, but the driver issues still remain.
I've tried to manually delete the old 12.4.1.4 drivers with no sucess. Even as an administrator in safe mode, I still couldn't modify anything. SYSTEM and TrustedInstaller are listed as having full control over the files, and there was no option to change the permission settings (check boxes were grayed out).
Is there anyway to modify those permissions so I can delete the old drivers? Would it helpt to reinstall 12.4.1.4? I've looked for a download online but haven't found anything yet. The only other solution I can think of is reinstalling Windows 7. Does that sound like the right course of action? The wireless card and the other drivers haven't had any issues up until now. It seems like some system files were corrupted when it went through the startup repair that started all of this.
    Thanks

  • Parallels with Windows XP and connecting to Airport Extreme Wifi

I would like to be able to go on the web on the Parallels side of my MacBookPro but can't seem to do it. Does anyone know the workflow in Parallels/Windows XP to connect that side of my laptop to my Wifi connection? I've tried Network Connections > Create New Connection, but it doesn't work. I also tried Control Panels > Wireless Network Setup, which allows me to select the name of my Airport Extreme to add a new computer to the network. However, when I click Next, I get Use a USB flash drive or Set up a network manually. It still doesn't let me connect the Windows side to the Internet via the Wifi connection, and I don't think the Wifi connection is working on that side. Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • T500: Access Connections and windows wifi management issue PostPosted: Fri Oct 29, 2010 2:31 pm

    Hello all,
This is my very first post here so please beare with me.
    My T500:
    Product: ThinkPad T500 2056-AK5
Operating system: Windows 7 Home Premium x64 (but same problem on Ultimate x64)
    Original description: Based 2056-4RG: T9400(2.53GHz), 3GB RAM, 160GB 7200rpm HD, 15.4in 1680x1050 LCD, 256MB ATI Radeon HD3650, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11agn wireless, Bluetooth, Modem, 1Gb Ether, UltraNav, Sec Chip, FPR, 9c Li-Ion, WinVista Business 32
The wifi NIC is Intel 5100 AGN, the gigabit is 82567LM. I bought also an Ericsson F3507g Mobile Broadband modem. All are working as supposed.
The win7 is freshly installed from recovery dvd's, all updates, both Lenovo and Micro$oft are up to date.
The problem: Access connections seems to be "behind" the automated wifi management of windows 7. I have two, three profiles saved for may home wifi network, my office wifi network and so on. My home network has settings like 192.168.7.xx, no encryption, only MAC registration, the office network has 192.168.4.xx, encryption WPA, therefore a switch is needed everyday between these.
The problem is that AC doesn't do that, eventually doesn't even switch between locations at all. In AC->Tools location switching is properly set up
The T500 connects let say at home, then when I starts in the office it connects to the office network but still using my home IP (192.168.7.xx) even if I saved in the profiles different IP numbers for both location. I have tried stopping the windows wifi connection service but then AC stop either.
This seems to me like windows try and force reconnect to the new network with the old settings, even before AC could interfere with its settings saved in profiles.
Only 2 things I can do:
    1. in windows' wireless network and sharing center I choose to start manually these networks, then start them manually from AC;
    2. Stop the network as connected automatically by windows (with wrong IP settings) then restart it from AC;
Both these are frustrating because my good old T60 running winXP did this automatically, without my inference.
Could anyone help me out of these, please?

I had similar problems with my T400.  AC would refuse to even show my access point most of the time.   I finally gave up and uninstalled AC.  The Windows 7 wifi management works just fine, but no profiles
Others on this forum smarter than me insist that AC works with Windows 7, just not for me.  It worked perfectly when running XP on this T and on my T61.
If you dump AC, do the basic wifi functions work for you?

  • Problems Connecting 2 New Macs to a Windows Workgroup

We have a Windows workgroup in our orphanage that has been working fine. The Windows XP computers use the IPs of 192.168.0.1 (the gateway computer that connects to the Internet), 192.168.0.10, 192.168.0.20, 192.168.0.80, 192.168.0.90 and 192.168.0.100
I have (attempted to) assign the IP addresses of 192.168.0.30 and 192.168.0.40 to the two new Macs I am wishing to add to our system. Eventually I want to go all Mac.
I am using the DNS of 202.102.224.68 and 202.102.227.68 on the workgroup.
All of the windows boxes except one are standard network with LAN cables. One is wireless. There are three wireless access points in the system and I am attempting to set up both Macs using Airport.
Prior to hooking up the two new Macs I have two Sony Viao Laptops that are able to connect to the network via any of the three wireless access points. All the computers and the laptops can connect to the Internet via the gateway computer at 192.168.0.1. File sharing works fine. Printer sharing works fine with any of the three printers we have in our workgroup. Remote access works fine also.
Now that I have included the two new Macs they can see each other but not the other computers in the workgroup. The PCs cannot see each other now... and.... the two Macs can connect to the internet via the Win XP gateway at 192.168.0.1 even though it does not show up in Finder.
I am terribly confused and I have tried to read every post in this thread but none seem to help.
I downloaded and installed "Workgroup Manager" but the first thing that happens when I attempt to run it is it asks me for "Address", "User Name" and "Password" in the connect window titled "Workgroup Manager Connect"
Of course I know my user name and password but I have no idea what it is looking for in the "Address" box.
I would sure like some help if anyone has the time.
What I want to achieve is simply add the two new Macs to the workgroup so all computers can have file sharing, remote access, Internet access and printer sharing.
    Thank you in advance!

  • Impossible to connect the iMac in WiFi under Windows Vista

    Hi;
First I apologize for my bad english.
    Now, here is my problem.
My iMac 24" running under OS X 5.6 connects itself perfectly in WiFi to my CometLabs WRM42 ADSL router in Mac mode. But i'm not able to establish the same connexion in Windows Vista mode.
According to Windows troobleshooting, linking router and Mac with a cable permits the connexion to work and continue to work after pulling out the cable. But the connexion is not again possible without cable after a restart of the computer.
Many thanks to whom will give me the solution.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions:
I suggest reposting in the BootCamp forum here:

I suspect that you need to install/reinstall the correct network drivers.

  • Connecting to Windows machines by name doesn't work

OK. Here's the story. PC/Linux guy for a long time. I'm the default sysadmin at work and for family. My wife bought me a Mac for my birthday, and I LOVE IT !!
The only problem is I still have 4 windows machines in the house, and I need to connect to them to get work done. (I actually now prefer using the Mac keyboard and mouse over the standard PC ones.)
I've gone through all the tips on joining my Mac to a Windows workgroup, and in the Finder, under the Shared section, I see the names for all my windows machines on the network. I can change my Connect as.. information, and see my windows shares.
Here's the problem, though. I want to use either VNC or MS Remote Desktop Connection on my mac to get my Windows Desktop. I cannot enter in just the name in either of these dialogs. It doesn't fined the machine by name only. If I figure out the explicit IP address, then it works fine.
Also, if I open up a terminal window, and attempt to ping a windows machine by name, it won't find it. What's going on here?
    Thanks for all responses !!

    G'day jimmy,
The wonders of name resolution are often a pain in the proverbial.
What response do you get from the "ping" when you attempt to use the name? Are you using the name of the PC on its own or "PCname.local"?
    Cheers,
    Rodney

  • IPhone no longer connects to iTunes via Wifi

On July 1,12 my iTunes did an automatic update.  After the computer restarting and I entered iTunes and the following messages appeared:
Message 1: Must reinstall itunes to connect to ipod or mobile devices.
Message 2: CD/DVD folder must be located in itunes folder in order to use with itunes
I have 2 iphones (both 4s, bought at same time, both running iOS 5.1.1)and one will briefly connect to itunes via Wifi (I will identify this one as iphone1) but the other one will not (I will identify this one as iphone2).  I have a PC with Windows 7.
When iphone1 is connected to itunes via wifi is disconnects randomly.  Under: Summary > Version, it has the message: Connect this iphone using a USB cable in order to update or restore its software.  When I have it connected with the USB cable, there are no problems. The settings selected under: Summary > Options > are: Open iTunes when this iphone is connected, Sync with this iphone over Wi-Fi,  & Manually manage music and videos.  The Setting under Backup > Back up to this computer (where it backs up to; I do not know)
iphone2 does not connect via Wifi but used to.  It connects without issues with the USB. The Settings in iTunes > Summary are the same as iphone2 except that iphone2 is set as Backup > Back up to iCloud.
My iphone2 is my primary device.  I use it exclusively; for music, taking photos, syncing photos to my Photo Stream folder on my PC, etc.  The iphone1 is my spouse's secondary phone, so its not used as often (ie: only has 4 songs downloaded, used to take the odd picture, has a mirror image of apps from iphone2).
I searched Apple Support and tried the following solutions that didn't solve this problem:
How to restart the Apple Mobile Device Service (AMDS) on Windows (support.apple.com/kb/TS1567) &
Set the Apple Mobile Device Service Startup type to Automatic
I have not done this: Remove and reinstall iTunes and AMDS. I did goto the: iTunes for Windows: Device Connectivity Tests > iOS > iPhone - iTunes Troubleshooting Assistantand into iTunes > Help > Run Diagnostics.  The results were: All tests passed. (My iphone2 was plugged in with USB. The iphone1 was connected via WiFi.)
What do I do now?  Do I need to remove and reinstall iTunes? and if so will I lose all my itunes info (videos, music, apps, settings) or will it just show up after I install iTunes?

    Hi Mitch,
It sounds like you have already done many of the steps, but I would like you to look at this article -

  • New Ipad mini will not connect automatically to home WiFi network

I use a range of Apple devices at home, IPhone 4, MacBook Pro and IMAC.
They all see and connect automatically to my WiFi home network. I never experienced any difficulty with my DLINK router.
I have received a couple of days ago my new Ipad mini (Wifi+ cellullar), running IOS 602, but not equipped with a SIM card.
The device never connects automatically to the home WiFi network.
I need to open the Settings app, chose the WiFi submenu and select manually my "dlink" network. Then only can I work with my network.
I need to perform this each time I leave my home or I restart the device.
As I am experienced with Apple devices I noticed this behaviour right away and can confirm that the settings on the Ipad mini are the same as the ones of the IPhone 4. I am certain that this is a bug.
Any suggestion to overcome this major frustration?
    Patrick

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • I own a 13-inch MacBook Pro and for the past day, my wifi on my laptop says I only have two bars of connection and is running very slow, but all of my other devices such as my iPhone and iPad are connecting perfectly to the wifi. How can I fix this? Thanks

I own a 13-inch MacBook Pro and for the past day, my wifi on my laptop says I only have two bars of connection and is running very slow, but all of my other devices such as my iPhone and iPad are connecting perfectly to the wifi. How can I fix this? I have tried to shut my laptop off and let it rest and I have also re-started my wifi router three different times. Someone please help me with this problem so I can begin to use my laptop again as I take it to school and use it for class.
    Thanks so much!

FCP, and all software on OSX, has a few different "preference" files (the extension is .plist), which store all your user settings. Each time you resize a window, change a setting, anything, this file is re-written. Kinda easy to see how they would become corrupt every now and then.
    -Close FCP
-Navigate to User>Library>Preferences and delete com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist
-Navigate to User>Library>Preferences>Final Cut Pro User Data and delete Final Cut Pro 5.0 Prefs
    -Empty your trash
Relaunch FCP and see if that worked.
Download FCP Rescue to make this process easier in the future. When you have FCP running really smooth, open FCP Rescue and create a backup of your preference files. If it starts acting wanky, just run FCP Rescue and Restore your backup preferences. Works really slick, and it's free.
EDIT: Or use the really simple explaination that X posted as I was typing.
