Connecting to wireless media player (Magicbox IMP) using Airport

We've just bought a Magicbox IMP (internet radio/media player) and have been assured that it will work on a Mac. The only time I've used airport before was to connect to a wireless broadband router (which I'm not using at the moment as it's in another location). Even without that, I should be able to connect to the IMP to play my iTunes files, according to Magicbox. I have set up a new wireless computer-to-computer network (using 'create network' in the drop-down airport menu). When I tell the IMP to search for networks it finds the network but then returns a 'network error' message: "Wireless configuration invalid. Bad ESSID or wrong key". I have been through all the possible settings with the tech support at Magicbox and they have now said the problem is in the network setup. Apple tech support say I have set the network up correctly and can help me no futher. So a classic stalemate. Has anyone out there had any experience of Magicbox IMP or any other type of wireless media player and can give me some guidance please? Many thanks.

What are the benefits of extending a wireless network then ?
Unfortunately, you are not extending your wireless network since the Express is not compatible with your router for that purpose.
The benefits to extending a wireless network...assuming that your Express is working with a compatible wireless router.....are the same as "joining" with the added plus that the Express is also providing more wireless signal, so the wireless signal strength will be provided over a greater area.
Another question is, the only purposes of joining a wireless network are for AirTunes, and remote printing ?
As I mentioned above, the Express can be used for AirTunes or a remote printer when it is configured to "join" a network. It can only "extend" a wireless network when it is used with another Apple product. In that case, the Express is configured to "extend a wireless network".

  • Can't download plug in for windows media player. Have used download site and it says it worked, but plug in is not showing up on my list of plug ins.

I tried to hear a conference call on a website. Got a message, needed windows media plug in. Checked my plug ins, no windows media. Read tutorial on firefox support. Clicked on download. Got a window that asked for repair or change. Tried repair, then change. Need better directions on how to finish download. Got message download successful, but after closing firefox and reopening, still no plug in for windows media in list of plug ins. Went to site and could not hear conference.
Read support forum. Message about using about:config. Tried this, typed in about: config in start menu, but didn't see anything that looked like I could change to true like message said.
solved by opening internet explorer and going to website and listening to conference call on windows media player. There was a message saying click here if you want to enable media player. Did so, heard conference.
Tried using chrome. Got to hear conference yesterday. Today, there was same message about needing plug in when I tried to follow instructions to get plug in, it was as confusing and useless as firefox. The bottom line is I tried to do everything set forth in firefox's forum suggestions and can't get the windown media plug in to show up in my list of plug ins and can't hear conference calls on firefox.
Chrome did say they were working on getting plug in available at chrome store.
I agree with comments that I was able to go to web sites and hear calls before firefox made an update that removed my windows media plug in. The simple download fix, presumeably from windows, does not work, apparently because firefox can't find the fix. That is not the user's fault, and it looks like windows tried to provide a fix, and firefox won't recognize it.
Bottom line, it is easier to use another browser, than try and get the windows media player plug in installed on firefox. What good is a browser, if you can't hear a call on the website that the browser takes you to? Please make it easy to install the windows media plug in on firefox. Thank you..

Firefox can find plugins in several locations, but Firefox 21 changed the location of the "shared" plugin folder so older installers like the Microsoft Windows Media Plugin no longer drop the DLL file in the correct location.
There apparently are two ways to address this:
    (1) Change a Firefox preference so that Firefox checks the old location. Here's how:
    (i) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(ii) In the filter box, type or paste '''plugins''' and pause while the list is filtered
(iii) Double-click '''plugins.load_appdir_plugins''' to switch its value from false to true.
This will take effect after you restart Firefox.
    (2) Copy the plugins folder to the new location. Here's how on Win 7 64-bit:
Open a Windows Explorer window to:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
Right-click and copy the '''Plugins''' folder
Double-click the '''browser''' folder to open it
    Right-click and paste
Right-click the new copy of '''Plugins''' and rename it to '''plugins'''
After restarting Firefox, the plugins in that folder should now be available.

  • Flash Media player - mp3 playback using CS3

I have an audio clip which is in MP3. It is about 7:30 min:sec in length consisting of 10 tracks each a teaser clip lasting from 30 to 50 seconds each with a brief fade out / fade in between each track. Each track has a song name. Here is what I would like to design a page as follows:
As each track is played I would like to show the viewer the name of the song. It could be a simple animation where the name is visible during the duration of the clip. The text title could also be static for all simplistic purpose. And so the same for rest of the tracks.
The background image of the page would be a static JPEG image.
Any ideas as how to approach this using CS3 Flash and Dreamweaver.
    thank you.
If the above seems convoluted, I would also would like to know how to setup a media player with individual tracks (each separate MP3 teaser), showing the track titles.
    thank you
    Subha

Does each track have an ID3 tag? Probably not I think you can only have 1 per mp3.  You could splice the mp3 into 10 seperate mp3's, edit in ID3 tags (ID3 editors are available for free just do a search)and use actionscript to extract the tag info and print in a textfield.

  • Macbook already connected to wireless but still can not use the internet as other Laptop can use.

For other computer can use the internet when they connected to that wireless, except my macbook.

I second this statement. However, before you go you should check "apple menu > system preferences > network"
Is your Airport visible here? If so, click on it and look for the "show Airport in menubar"  checkbox.

  • Satellite A660 - Beeping noise stuttering during media player/CD drive use

    I have an annoying beeping noise and stutter (the music is delayed momentarily every few seconds, electronic inteference type noise) when using the media player or the CD drive. I have taken the laptop back for a warranty repair in which they replaced the motherboard with no success, they then informed me they believed it was a software issue and a reinstall of Windows 7 was needed so I have done the following with the recovery media disks I created in this order, results in brackets;
    - restored the factory software (no change still beeps and stutters)
    - formatted the HD (initially I thought this fixed the issue but after beginning to dload and install about 80 Windows updates the issue came back)
    - formatted the HD again (once again I thought the issue was fixed but I have heard the beeping/stutter only once or twice)
Considering that format of the HD takes 26 hours, I will not begin dload/install any updates including Windows 7 until I can try something else or have an answer.
Can anyone shed some light on this issue, the noise is terrible considering it was bought as an entertainment media playback unit.
Thanks for any help here in advance.

Hey I have the exact same problem as you but it affects my Toshiba Satellite L650.
The music will pause/hang and a distorted electronic noise will come through the speakers.
It used to happen all the time, and for whatever reason I simply ignored it, will admit it did become annoying at times though.
I then downloaded a Bios update for the laptop, and this reduced the frequency of the distortion noticeably. It now happens maybe once every three days or so, instead of several times each use.
So I think the problem is the BIOS, and maybe the way the soundcard works as using an external usb soundcard I think fixed the problem, or at least reduced the number of times it would occur.
It may also be helpful to disable any built in audio software that came with the laptop, such as "Smartaudio" which runs on mine. I think this also helps the problem.
Still, it is a very annoying fault if you bought the laptop for mostly media use and went through all the trouble of formatting the harddrive.
Please tell me if this helps, or if Toshiba does anything to improve the problem.

  • How to share internet connection over wifi to an ethernet decive using airport express?

Hi i have a device that it can only be connected to the internet via ethernet in a diferent room (and far) where my primary internet connection is. I have my network configured like this: cable modem >>>  connected via ethernet >>> to airport time capsule >>> connectes via wi fi >>> to airport express last generation "n" >>> connected via ethernet cable to device. The problem is that i'm not having internet conection in my ethernet connected device. Anyone know if I have to configure something in some special way or if i'm doing something wrong?
    Thanks
    Guido

    It should work fine..
To figure this out, check if the Express is connected by wireless properly and getting an IP.. you will see that in airport utility.
Make sure you are set to either extend or join the wireless network. The Express should then pass an IP to the "device".
No luck start over.. reset everything to factory.
If the TC is older model use 7.6.1 firmware.. it works much better for extend wireless.
Use short names.. 2-20 characters no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
Then set the Express again in extend wireless mode.
It is pretty easy in v6 airport utility. Look at the posts from Bob Timmons on how to extend wireless.. he must have answered those question a thousand times in the last few years.
Here is one I did. https://discussions.apple.com/message/24161378#24161378

  • Extending wireless network from BoB modem using Airport Extreme

    Hi,
I am using BoB with wired and wireless internet for my house.
I recently got Airport Extreme but am having difficulties extending my wireless network.
I have tried turning the WDS off and on the BoB as well as turning the AE to bridge mode etc.
I have managed to set up 2 wirless networks using both but still unable to extend my wireless with BoB.
    Can you please help?
    YOGI_OZ12

If you are trying to "extend" your wireless network....using a wireless connection to the AirPort Extreme.....it might be helpful to understand that an AirPort Extreme can only do this if you have another AirPort Extreme, AirPort Express or Time Capsule producing the wireless signal.
Apple routers cannot "extend a wireless network"....using wireless only....from non-Apple routers.

  • Connecting to Wireless Home Network w/o an AirPort Card

I want to connect a CRT iMac that's incompatible with AirPort Extreme to a wireless home network.
The problem is that every USB adapter I've seen is Windows-only.
Does anyone know of any USB-wireless adapters that are compatible with OS X?

    Strider, it
    i is
standard-Airport-ready, but as Henry observed, it's not worth spending twice as much as an ethernet bridge would cost. (At least not for a desktop.)
(I was hoping to save some money by using USB but judging by the other Topic, that would be more trouble than it would be worth.)
I have found one good deal on an ethernet bridge here http://store.yahoo.com/justdeals/me101au.html . Apparently the reason that it's inexpensive is that it was manufactured to be sold in Europe. Is there any reason that that bridge, with a U.S. power adapter, wouldn't work well on this side of the Atlantic?

  • Powerbook Would Connect To Internet, New Macbook Will Not Using Airport....

I purchased a new macbook yesterday and i am having problems connecting to the internet using airport and my belkin wireless router. Whenever i try and connect to the router I get a message saying it is not possible.
My old Powerbook G4 still connects using the same router and airport but the new macbook will only connect via an ethernet cable, I have tried ringing belkin support who do not seem able to help me.
Does anyone have any ideas to help me please?
Thanks in advance for your help........

I had the exact same problem yesterday, and I called Apple support. I had to download a software update (security and OS), and after that, it worked. Some people have suggested trying putting a $ sign before the Belkin password. It didn't work for me, but it might be worth a try. My macbook arrived yesterday and I've had problems with this and the keychain thing (I'm totally new to the Mac), and am still having problems with that. So I'll probably be calling support again today unless I can find a solution to that problem here on the forum.
Good luck with yours, I hope you get it fixed

  • Connecting the Elgato EyeHome Wireless Media Player

I have a mini with AirPort Extreme and have just purchased a wireless version of the EyeHome. I've heard a few stories about 'nightmare' connections and wonder if anyone can offer a few tips to avoid pitfalls, etc. I've started looking into what's required, and am sure will sort the install, but would appreciate any advice any current users can offer.

Avoid congesting the wireless bandwidth, so no WDS, no large internal file transfers, avoid any 802.11b clients and potential sources of interference.

  • How do connect iPad wireless to a projector for use in classroom?

I want to be able to utilize my iPad in the classroom as I would an airtablet.  Is there a way to do this?

Probably the simplest way, if you want to remain wireless (not be cabled to the projector) is to buy an AppleTV and use Airplay to mirror the iPad to the projector that way. AppleTVs have HDMI outputs, so if your projector has that connection, you just need an HDMI cable - otherwise, you will probably need an HDMI-VGA adaptor.

It is not as simple as it is between two Macs, but you can share files easily between a Mac and a PC on an Airport network.
