Connecting to zon- fon free Internet

I have been with Bt since bt openworld and recently had trouble with their router, well actually when it broke it was my router.
Bt eventually supplied another one when I purchased another package. I don't really need another package as I don't use a lot of Internet time in the UK, and was going to quit.
Bt came up with a plan which included bt fon which as I read it enables the user to access the net pretty much worldwide if they open up their router for other foneiros to use.
As I spend the majority of my time in Portugal I thought what a wonderful Idea, I will be able to log into zon-fon free Internet, which is bt,s partner in Portugal.
Its actually impossible as I have only once succeeded on getting onto the landing page. The bt page says that I have opted in and the fon page says that I am an alien.
After some 2 months of looking for a fon-zon hot spot, at first bt said that I should change my location ( I can pick up with good signal strength 2 or 3 fon-zon free Internet spots. Yet cannot get to the landing page. Now either something is desperately wrong with fon or someone is telling fibs or of course my laptop is kaput but it does work more or less everywhere else and it does pick up zon-fon free Internet but I cannot get to the landing page to log in. Has anyone else had this problem in this area ( priai da rocha)
There is little point in staying in either bt or fon if it doesn't work. So far have been very little help even though they are taking the money, for a service they are failing to provide. I have sent in screen shots showing my connection status, Fon seem to want to help but so far haven't come up with any solution. And bt hasn't as yet done anything. I have a suspicion that the fon system was just invented to spy on us anyway, not that that bothers me at all, as the help centre seems to be in the USA, well they call it the help centre. Has anyone any ideas that I can try as I have spent a fortune on 3G wireless dongle time with vodaphone, when it should have been on free wifi.

from a diagnostic tool provided with a sitcom wireless dongle it suggests that I have excellent contact with the fon modem. If the modem wasnt registered to fon then it would not come up as a fon free internet connection. I agree that it seems that the fon modem that I connect to is not connected to the internet but have all five not been connected secondly fon are supposed to check that internet connections are available by testing them. failure to leave your modem available results in you losing your fon status. when I check my fon status with bt mine is ok. so all 5 fon connections breaking the agreement I dont think so. I continue to think that bt are not putting any effort into sorting out bt fon problems . Has any one else in Portugal had any problems with connecting to zon-fon-free-internet. Indeed it should not be a problem for bt to come up with some sort of answer, if anyone has managed to get through someone sensible at Bt I would very much like to know.

  • Resetting Network Settings? Can't connect at free internet cafe

I'm having issues connecting to wifi at a free internet cafe. When I start up Firefox, it should go to a logon page where you enter some info like age, location, etc, and after you fill this out you are connected to the free wifi and can browse freely.
When I launch firefox it just sits there trying to connect to my homepage with no success. I have another laptop (non mac) and it connects straight away to this logon page.
I don't know if I messed around with the network settings but is there a way to reset them to default factory settings? The reason I ask is because I have another "test" login account on my Mac OS X and when I launch firefox it goes straight to this logon page, where as my normal account doesn't.
I'm wondering, could it also have something to do with my homepage?
    Thanks.

Hi! It's been a while but here's the latest update on the case.
(And yeah,I've been struggling until today to find a solution...Danny's personal advice: don't move to Italy if you don't wanna get lost in a Customer Service nightmare...)
Anyhow, it turned out to be as simple as this:
    1) Create a location dedicated to the home network.
    2) Insert PPPoE user name and password given by ISP.
    3) Connect.
    4) Browse wirelessly.
...I feel a little dumb overlooking this option....but, I still have some doubts reg the procedure.
Why did I have to create a dedicated location?
Why do I have to use PPPoE rather than DHCP?
    Thanks mate,
    D

  • I can not get my ipod 4 gen to log into Free Wifi hotspots. It shows that it is connected but I have to internet activity. I was at several hotspot locations last night and could not get on any, but other people were. HELP.

I can not get my Ipod 4 Gen to log into free WIFI hot spots. It shows that I am connected but I have no internet activity. I was in several hot spots last night and could not log in, other people were, but I could not. HELP!

    - Did the other users who successfully connected have iDevices?
    - Frequently you have to open Safari/a browser and agree to the terms and conditions of the wifi spot before yo can get to the internet.  Some wifi spots use Flash or Java to log on which the iPod (and other iDevices) do not support)
    - Have you tried resetting network settings: Settings:General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - Does you Ipod successfully connect at home?.

  • I can't connect to Fon free Yi Fi with IP 4 .  What's the solution

Give me the solution to connect to Fon free YiFi with my IP4.
I've tried but in vain. Why?

Be sure Safari does not have the Block Pop-Up Windows preference set.
Where I work now there are several unencrypted VLANs that require authentication, and Safari promptly pops up a window for me to register every time.

  • After installation of 8.0.1 Firefox will not connect through Zone Alarm Firewall

After updating Firefox from 8.0.0 to 8.0.1, Firefox would no longer connect to either my LAN or the internet. Internet Explorer, Outlook and Ping work fine, the latest version of Chrome also will not connect. If I turn off the Zone Alarm Free firewall, everything connects again.

Your firewall is not recognizing the new version; it is just doing its job.
#Exit Firefox (''Firefox button'' > Exit or ''File > Exit'')
#Remove references to firefox and plugincontainer from your firewall list of allowed programs
#Start Firefox, let your firewall detect the new version and give permissions to allow Firefox access to the internet

  • Using iPhone to connect my MacBook to the internet.

Any ideas on how I can use my iPhone to connect my MacBook to the internet?

    Hi RonAnnArbor,
Why not just tell people the truth and let them be responsible for their own actions. You cannot seriously expect us to believe that you are this ridiculously naive. Let's suppose that you are in a geographic/physical location that does not have free, or pay WiFi. But, to get the customer up and running you need a real machine with real apps to do some work. This, opposed to just playing on the net with the iPhone. Real work, not reading emails and showing your technically challenged friend how your blog looks on the phone... Instead of that, you are looking at stuff that is technical, contains a great deal of information, or contains a great deal of formatting. Could you not see that it would be easier to work with this type information not just from a readability standpoint, but a usability standpoint on something with a larger display?
I digress. Anyway there is no way to connect your MacBook Pro to the net because there is no connection available and you are in the middle of no where, but your iPhone is in your holster and has a freakin' marvelously strong signal. So, you have this iPhone in your pocket right next to your xxxx and it is doing nothing but playing your favorite music.
Hmm, interesting "You have an Unlimited Data Plan with AT&T" why not use it to create your own WiFi hotspot with your iPhone and allow your MacBook Pro, Windows PC, whatever to share the phone's data connection so that these and other devices can connect to the net via the iPhone? So you still don't see the advantage?
That is an awesome feature and makes it so you can connect with anything, anywhere using your iPhone. Talk about a new marketing angle. Your iPhone is now your ISP. The iPhone would be acting as, well, a modem if that helps you bring the aforementioned post full circle.

  • Connected to BTFon with no Internet access? Please...

I've used BT Fon a couple of times now with very few problems, so just purchased a set of 5 day-passes. But I now I can't get onto the BT Fon network at all, and it's driving me crazy!
Bt Fon shows as an available wireless network, so I click to connect to it. It connects fine, but when I try to go on the Internet, the BT Fon homepage doesn't load for me to log on. Instead my computer keeps trying to just load Google, and failing because I'm not connected to the Internet yet! I've tried disabling my firewall, and this seemed to work briefly, but now it does nothing at all. I can connect for a few minutes, but then it disconnects and I have to spend another few hours waiting for the BT Fon homepage to load so I can log in.
I'm using Firefox- does that make a difference? Please help, I have no idea what to do!
Oh, also, I've read the forums which mention restarting the hub to get a firmware update, but I'm accessing it via my neighbour's hub (I assume) so don't have access to restart it!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi and welcome
As you say you are connected to poss your neighbours hub you are going to be at the mercy of their Hub, if for instance it is locked up or faulty you would not be able to access the internet.
As you can connect to the FON hotspot but cannot access the internet it could even be something as simple as they have disconnected the DSL lead from the hub to the telephone socket.

  • IPod Touch won't connect WiFi to local free network

iPod Touch 2G with 2.2 software won't connect WIFi to local free network.
This is a local free network. I'm not asked for any login info.
My Mac Mini connects wireless to the free WiFi network without issue (see specs in sig if needed).
Touch (just purchased) shows connected to same free WiFi, shows strong signal, but Safari iTunes, etc. say can not connected to Internet
Mini and Touch show different IP addresses, different Subnet Mask. Touch shows no router nor DNS, Mini does.
Touch set to DHCP (as it should). Renew Lease does not change above info.
BTW when set to DHCP there's obviously no way to change IP or Subnet.
I tried Settings/General/Reset/Reset Network Settings - but had no impact on the issue.
About shows WiFi Address so that seems OK too.

That was my first stop before I posted here.
I did an odd "experiment" which fixed it. As I mentioned I was getting a strange IP address which was very different than my Mini also on the same service.
I set up my own router enabling wireless. The Touch used that without issue, I then disabled the wireless portion of my router. The Touch was then able to grab on to the public wireless service.
Odd that it took that to fix it. I had realized that the Mini has been wired to my router previously before using the public wireless service.
While it is working now, why would using my router on my service to grab an IP address have ANY impact on using the public wireless service? Maybe it registers an IP address with the device (Mini, Touch) that the public service sees and uses?

  • WiFi Connection does not see the internet

I have this problem with my Inc2 and my home wifi.   I have a Linksys/Cisco E1000 router supplying my wireless and wired networking at home; it is a standard set up with a WPA Personal2 shared key authentication.    I set my Inc2 to connect with the home network, and it reports it is connecting, getting an IP address and connected messages in sequence.  If I look on the router itself, it reports the mac addres of the phone as being connected.  But any attempt by the phone to get to the world goes nowhere.  Now I do not have any problems connecting other devices:  laptops, tvs, dvd players all connect and get to the internet.  The router supplies the DNS settings, and I presume the phone is setting the router as the gateway (router IP is 192.168.1.1, surprise).  but the phone just returns site not available.  (Even for the Google page).  Other apps have reported site not available messages when they try to run with wifi at home is connected.
Now I have had success at open sites (eg. Wendy's, Panera Bread,  that sort of place) connecting and getting access to the world.  But I have not way to find out what the settings of the phone are when it 'connects' to my wifi to try to find out what the problem is.
Can anyone give me a clue how to find out what piece is broken here?  It is only my android phone that connects in this 'half-baked' way...like I said, everything else ( 3 laptops, a tv, a dvd player, an Xbox) all connect fine.
    :-Dennis

I have the same problem and I have a router  Verizon sent me. I have to turn off wifi every time I want to log on to the internet at home and on the job. that means I'm using up my data when I have free wifi

  • Connecting iPad + iPhone to the Internet 101

Sorry for the simple question, but I've received conflicting information from Verizon and AT&T and have seen and hear more conflicting information on the Internet, from various people, etc. Let me start from the beginning...
I currently have an aging MacBook Pro and a cheap netbook running Windows that I take to work with me. I have an account with Verizon that gives me a modem I can plug into either one to connect to the Internet. I'm allowed 5GB a month. I also have an account with TMobile for a cell phone that no longer works. I pay almost exactly $100 a month for the two combined.
I want to upgrade to an iPhone and replace my netbook with an iPad. (I'll probably upgrade my MacBook Pro this fall.)
I need at least 5GB monthly bandwidth allowance for my computers, along with a very simple phone plan. (I use my phone very seldom.)
After making THREE phone calls, I had the understanding that I could get a laptop connection and a phone line for $70 a month using the iPhone's "hotspot" - and that I would also have unlimited usage for my computers. Now I'm told that I have to pay an extra fee to use the hotspot, and I'll only be allowed 2 GB for my computer.
So what's the best/cheapest plan to get 5GB for my computers and a simple phone plan? Can it be done with the cheaper WiFi model iPad and an iPhone hotspot? Can it be done with the WiFi model at all, or do I need to buy the more expensive 3G model?
In fact, what's the difference between the WiFi and 3G models? My understanding is that you can connect the 3G to the Internet anywhere you can connect with a cell phone -  but you don't have to have an iPhone with you. With the WiFi model, you can do the same thing, as long as you have an iPhone with you - and you're apparently limited to 2GB a month. Is that correct?
I've also been told that you can insert an "air card" and/or use something called 4G that will do something or other.
Based on the erroneous information I was given initially, I ordered a WiFi model, and I learned just a few minutes ago that it's ready to pick up at a local store. But I need to figure out all this Internet connection stuff before I purchase it.
Again, I'd like to have at least 5GB a month for my computers and a very simple phone plan. Can that be done with a cheaper iPad WiFi model? If so, can anyone give me a ballpark figure on how much it's going to cost me per month?
    Thanks!
P.S. ANY iPad model should be able to connect via free Internet services (e.g. Internet cafes), even if I'm not subscribed to Verizon or AT&T, right?

I'll try to answer a few of your questions:
    - the main difference between the 3G+wifi and the wifi-only iPads is the 3G can get data over cell networks and has gps built in. The wifi only iPad has no gps, but still has limited location capabilities via wifi network location database and if tethering via iPhone.
    - There is no 4g card for the iPad, but a 3G and/or 4g hotspot device that creates a local wifi will work with the iPads.
    - For the uses you outlined, I would get a myfi or hotspot device ith a large data plan and have it supply data/Internet to the computer and iPad. One large data plan should be cheaper than several smaller plans.
    - With some of the plans, like ATT's 2gig/30 day plan, if you use the 2gig in 18 days, you get another 2gig/30 day bundle for the plan fee. ($25.00 ?).
You should estimate the use per device and grand total of cell usage expected for all devices and compare plans and costs. You'll know what makes $en$e.
Oh, and make sure you password protect your hotspot so you don't give piggyback rides.
    Hope this helps.

  • My iphone keps defaulting to a BTFon pay internet sight and wont let me have free internet roaming. Can i stop this?

My iphone keeps defaulting to a BT Fon pay internet sight even though I have free broadband in the house. It won't let me have free internet roaming...is there I way i can stop this?

Plugins usually are installed externally to Firefox. However, you can disable them in Firefox so that Firefox does not use them.
SearchReset is supposed to automate the task of resetting certain preferences, but you still can edit them manually if necessary.
    '''''Address Bar Search'''''
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the filter box, type or paste '''keyword''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Right-click '''keyword.URL''' and choose Reset. This should restore Google as the default for address bar search.
    Does that work?
    '''''Search Box'''''
Usually it works to choose your preferred search engine from the drop-down. To remove an unwanted search engine plugin, usually the Manage Search Engines... choice at the bottom of the drop-down takes care of it.
    Do either of those work?
There might be another way to hijack that search box; I think some of the other frequent responders probably are more familiar with it than I am.

I doubt that BT would be swayed by that. This is what the residential broadband T&C say:

You need to ask Apple for assistance with getting back into your old ID. To do this, click here and pick a method; if that page doesn't list one for your country or you're unable to resolve this issue through the Account Security team, fill out and submit this form.
