Using a remote desktop connection with the Macbook pro.
I use the remote desktop connection on the Macbook pro and am unable to exchange info between the mac and the remote connetion windows. For example, if I am writing an email from the remote connection and want to attach a document, photo etc. that I created on the Mac, it just doesn't work. It seems like the Mac and the desktop connection are completely seperated eventhough they are both on the screen in front of me. the systems I use for work are not Apple compatible and will not work on anything other than windows explorer and in my case the remote desk top connection. Any ideas!

Ah, sure it actually won't. I have the same problem, and I contacted Apple Support. They told me that there is an incompatability between the iphone 5 and MacBook Pro Retina such that Bluetooth pairing is not possible.
The Support Agent actually had the audacity to tell me this was part of the design of the OS on the MacBook Pro, like Windows people saying, "That's not a bug. It's a feature!!"
Personally, I think this is insane. While I was trying to tether the iphone to the MacBook Pro retina for an internet connection, there are other reasons related to file transfers for which one would want to pair the iphone 5 with the MacBook Pro retina.
I am hoping this "feature" is fixed in iOS 7, and/or in some dot release of Mac OS 10.8.
By the way, the personal hotspot feature on my Verizon iphone 5 works great either via a wifi or USB connection. There are occaisions, however, when one would 1) not have a USB cable, and/or 2) have another wifi relationship between the phone and a network that one would not want to have to "forget" in order for it not to connect to that wifi network. The Macbook will not find the iphone as a wifi hotspot if the iphone is connected to wifi in the first place. At least mine won't.

How can I connect an old macbook pro...
How can I connect an old macbook pro with that does NOT have a Thunderbolt connection to a new 27 inch iMac? I only need to do this for one specific purpose, to be able to see the work I'm doing on the laptop in InDesign on the iMac's larger screen (at a larger size as it were, so I can see a double page spread (or even a whole page would be an improvement) in one go)? I gather it might be possible to get an adaptor but note that Apple don't seem to sell one. I know I could do this with the cinema screen but would rather do it with a new imac as that will have more use to me overall. It's a work laptop which I don't own so I don't own the Indesign to just be able to use that on an iMac. I have tried to connect monitors to the laptop in the past, but with no success at all. I hope someone can help . Thank you.
Im pretty sure you are talking about the M8536 which has an ADC Adapter.
you will have to daisy chain a thunderbolt to DVI adapter with an DVI to ADC Adapter.

Connect my new Macbook Pro with Mountain Lion to my HP PhotoSmart B210
How can I connect my new MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion to my hp b210 printer? My printer is about 1.5 years old and works wirelessly just fine with my PC. I just switched to mac. The printer is supposed to be airprint compatible according to HP. HP has no software drivers for me to download. Instead they say to use Mac Software Update to get the software. However, there are no updates when I try that. I have tried adding the printer manually using it's IP address and can print a test page, but when I try to print using an application on the Mac it cannot find the printer or says the printer is in use. Help!!!

Hello everyone,
Is it possible to connect from a MacBook Pro's mini display port to a Display Port monitor with resolutions higher than 1920 x 1200? It seems Apple does not supply a mini-DP to DP adapter.
However, just as they do not make a mini-DP to HDMI adapter, but they do recommend a Belkin product for this purpose.
Is there any reason that a mini-DP to DP adapter or cable wouldn't work and support high resolutions?

With a converter like this, you can run video out of the MBP's DVI port, and miniToslink (optical) audio out of the 3.5mm stereo mini jack to the converter, then it will combine the two and output audio and video through HDMI to the monitor.

Otherwise, depending on the TV's inputs, for video you could run DVI to DVI on the TV, or DVI to HDMI to the TV. For audio you could run 3.5mm stereo mini plug from the MBP to RCA adapter on the TV. Toslink/optical is also an option. -

Can't connect my 2009 macbook pro to new 2011 LG TV
I just got a new LG LED LCD TV and I'm trying to connect my 2009 macbook pro to it. I bought a Belkin Mini Display Port to HDMI Adapter at the Apple Store. I also bought the Apple HDMI to HDMI 1.8m cable to connect the computer to the TV. I set up the video fine by using System Preferences-Display. Unfortunately, the sound does not work though. I bought a Dynex stereo mini to RCA "Y" cable to connect my computer's head phone jack to the Audio In RGB/DVI port on my TV. The problem is that I can only get sound to work when I set the input on my TV to AV1. I can only get the video to work when I have the input set to HDMI/DVI. I need to be able to get them to work simultaneously. Can anyone offer me some advice?

I think you need to go into System Preferences>Sound, and make sure the output is through the Headphone Port. -

How do I block my roommate's apple tv from connecting to my macbook pro?
My roommate now has an Apple TV and it is connecting to my macbook pro. Is there a way to completely block the signal and get rid of the apple tv icon on my mac? At first I didn't know what the new icon was on my menu bar, so I opened it up to see if there was a way to disable it. Turns out my screen was broadcasted on to her TV and they could see everything I was doing. Please tell me there is a way to block this completely so I can use my computer and not be afraid that someone can connect to my screen at any time. Thank you.

My HP office jet pro 8600 won't connect to my macbook pro or my iPad
My HP Officejet pro 8600 at work will no longer connect to my macbook pro or my ipad, yet it still connects to my bosses ipad just fine. I had tried uninstalling it on my mac, and then when i try to reinstall it its not there. I have tried unplugging the printer several times and this too doesnt work. I have tried resetting up the printer on wifi and even tried restarting my wireless router nothing has worked at all i'm getting really frusterated having to take all my work on a flash drive to my bosses computer to print it off please help ASAP.

Try unplugging the router from the power for 30 seconds, plug it back in and allow it 2 minuts to fully start.
Next turn the printer off and back on and check for any difference.
If the issue remain, may you changed a wireless router lately? what is your exact router brand and model?

Why can't I connect to my brother MFC-J4510DW printer wirelessly? The printer is connected to the router.
I can surf the web. My wife can print from her PC wirelessly on it.
I wonder if some security setting may be keeping it from connecting to my MacBook Pro. I've installed the software, firmware and driver updates but
it still shows "off line"
with the printer power on. Any suggestions?All I can suggest right now is back up first the try to reset the printing system, (all printers in the list will be removed).
Then connect directly to the printer via ethernet or to the Mac using USB and restart the efforts you have made up until now.
As for router settings, it's possible but not likely that your router only allows a small number of clients. It's also posible that you have MAC address filtering on, lastly are you using the correct wireless protocol, (802.11a/b/g WEP or WPA etc)? -
I have my Kurzweil connected to my MacBook Pro via an adapter (old style MIDI from Kurzweil to USB adapter connecting to Mac). The Kurzweil has a baffling array of buttons and possible MIDI channels. Can anyone please tell me which of the channels I should use? Also, should I leave the MIDI In cable out of the Kurzweil? Thanks for as detailed an answer as possible. First of all I do not own this keyboard. But a quick look at the manual (found on the internet) says that when first powered up the SP88 is in Internal Sounds mode. Meaning you hear the sounds selected when playing the keyboard. It also stated that the default Midi Transmit Channel is Midi Channel #1.
Looks like you would need to go to the SP88 Keyboard's MIDI SETUP and simply select LOCAL OFF. Now the keyboard should be ready to transmit Midi Out only and no internal sounds should be heard.
Next you may or may not need to do this but you might need to go into the Utilities Folder found in your Applications Folder on your Mac and double click AUDIO MIDI SETUP the keyboard Icon. Figure #1 below.
Next you need to make a physical connection from the Midi Out of the SP88 to the Midi In on your Midi Interface. Figure #3 below. You may need to Click on Add Device first. Figure #2 below.
In the examples shown below I have a Yamaha Electronic Drum Kit that is Midi Out only... not USB out. I had to plug a Midi cable from the Midi Out Port on the back of my Drum Module to the Midi In Port on the back of my Motu 828 Audio Inferface which is connected to my Mac. Next I created the Audio Interface and Drum Module "Devices" as mentioned above.
I then double clicked on the Drum Module and made my Midi Out Selections. Figure #4 Below. And once it was setup and the icons closed I used my mouse to draw a virtual cable connection from the Drum Module Out to the Audio Interface In. Figure #3 below. This is how I got my Midi Devices to talk to one another.
Once you have made your setup as I have outlined create a MIDI Instrument Track in Garageband, select an instrument for example a Piano then Record Enable that track in Garageband and see if you now hear what you are playing. In this example the SP88 is a Midi Controller only and you will only hear sounds selected in Garageband which is what you want.
Keep in midi your setup may be different than mine. You can keep your SP88 Keyboard on the default Midi Channel #1. That would be a good place to start. Garageband receives Midi on all channels. -
I have my new HD in a USB enclosure connected to my MacBook Pro and I want to put a fresh copy of Mountain Lion on it. I'm told that I need to boot from the Installation Disk to start. But I do not have an install DVD as I got ML as a download from the App Store. Can I download ML from the App Store again, but this time directly to my new HD?

How do I share a 3G USB modem connected to my Macbook Pro with my Airport Express?
Hi. I have a 3g USB modem connected to my macbook pro, and I want to try share the signal with my Airport Express (latest model).
Now before everybody screams that it can't be done, I was searching the forums and found a discussion in which someone describes how to do it from 2008, unfortunately it is archived and I couldn't ask the author directly, and the description doesn't go into much detail.
In the thread, the author describes turning internet sharing on to share the USB modem, creating a network on the macbook, then renaming the Airport Express network name the same as the macbook, and setting the AX to Join a Network.
Problem being there is no description of whether the macbook connected to the AX via ethernet or wifi, what settings were changed on the AX eg bridge mode.
Is this possible in theory, and has anybody had any success sharing a 3g USB modem via a macbook pro to an AX? I know there are other options like getting 3g ethernet modems, unfortunately not an option in this case - new house, waiting for DSL to be installed, 2-3 month wait.
ThanksWell, you cannot use the 3G USB modem plugged directly into the Express. However, you can configure your MacBook Pro to do 'Internet sharing' (SysPrefs>Sharing) over the Ethernet port, and then connect your Express into the Ethernet port. Alternatively, you could always get your MacBook to 'create a wireless network'.
