Connecting two iPods to the same computer

I currently have the shuffle. I want to get the 80 gig iPod and put all of my music on it. Can I use both pods on the same computer? I use the shuffle almost daily when I run, so I will still need to use it. Thanks.
David

Yes you can use two or more iPods on the same computer.

Do Apple not have an online help service? It seems a little strange for a company so large.

  • Anyone ever connect two ipods to the same computer at the same time?

What happens? I have a Nano and a G5 Video. Multiple USB ports . . . curious if iTunes would see both ipods?

I've had 3 ipods connected at the same time. They all show up under Devices.

  • How to use two ipods on the same computer

I have one laptop with four user accounts.  Until now we've had only one ipod that synchs with the iTunes library in Dad's account.  Now daughter has an iPod, but want to use access the same music and playlists as Dad uses, at least for now.  Do we synch the Daughter's ipod in Dad's account, just like we did with the first iPod?

You would need to sync in Dad's account to access Dad's iTunes Library. However, if she has loaded her iPod with the music she wants from Dad's iTunes Library, then she can continue to play the music even if she has her own Apple ID and separate user account on the same computer. She just will not be able to add new music from Dad's iTunes Library unless she uses Dad's Apple ID.
iDevices are single-user devices, so for daughter to have her own Apple ID and iTunes Library, then she has to have her own user account on the computer.
If it's more convenient to have on iTunes Library shared by all, then make no changes. iTunes knows that every connected device is different by the name you give the device, like "Daughters iPod" as an example.

  • Can I sync two IPODs to the same computer ?

I have ITunes on my laptop for my IPOD Classic.  Just got an IPOD Touch and want to sync using same laptop.  Will I have cross-over sync problems between the two IPODS ? ?

    Nope.
I have a 5th gen iPod Video, a 2nd gen Touch, a 4th gen Touch, and an iPhone 4.  I synch 'em all to the same computer.

  • Two IPods on the Same Computer/Cradle

Both my kids have new IPODS minis. I bought a cradle thinking they could both use the same computer - same cradle to access IMUSIC. How do I configure IMusic so that when one IPOD mini is removed from the cradle/Imusic, and the other one is inserted, the IMusic list recognizes the second IPod mini. This has to be easy. Help you smart people out there.

    Jeff -
I appreciate your prompt response, when I attempted to download the latest updater, I received the following error message during the update process, "Error: -1639 Invalid Command Line Argument. Consult the Windows Installer SDK for detailed command line help."
Any suggestions? I appreciate any advice you can offer.

  • What do you do if two iPods use the same computer and become intertwined?

My friend has an Apple iPod Touch and so does her son. They each had their our own Apple IDs and separate laptops.  Her iPod was predominately downloads and some purchased songs.  Everything was working just fine, until her laptop broke.
She then began using her son's laptop, but kept her user login.  Now her purchased songs show up in her son's library and when he deletes one, it deletes on her device again.  She no longer has a library of songs on a computer and her purchases are going to his iPod.
She made an appointment at the Apple Store and they told her it was too difficult of a situation for them to deal with in the store.  They have referred her to Apple Support in TN to call her tonight.
What does she need to do to get things right and have her own iTunes library, unrelated to her son's?
    Thank you!

Using More than One iDevice on the Same Computer
This applies mainly to couples who are adding another device and do not want their email, messages, etc. being duplicated on both devices. To begin read: How to use multiple iPhone, iPad, or iPod devices with one computer. You need to establish a separate Apple ID and password for whomever will use the new iDevice. See Apple - My Apple ID and Frequently asked questions about Apple ID. The easiest way is to do this on the computer using iTunes: iTunes- How to set up an Apple ID within iTunes.
On the computer create a new user account for the person with the new iDevice. This will be the user account that person will always use. He/She will no longer use the other user account. This way that person will have a separate iTunes Library. Note that once done you cannot "share" apps under a single Apple ID. Each of you must purchase your own apps under your own Apple ID. When you decide to split up like this one of you will need to re-purchase the apps that they want to use.
Start by transferring the new device(s) to a new account along with all your data.  Save any photo stream photos that you want to keep to your camera roll (unless they are already in the camera roll) by opening your Photos app, tap on Albums icon at the bottom. Now, tap on My Photo Stream album; tap Select; tap on the photos you want to select;, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow) in the lower left corner; then tap Save to Camera Roll.
If you are syncing notes with iCloud that you want to keep then you need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself. Later you can copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account.
Tap on Settings > iCloud > Delete Account (only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud; the person keeping the current account will not be affected,) provide the password to turn off Find My Phone and choose Keep on My iDevice when prompted.  Sign in with a different Apple ID to create your new account. Choose Merge to upload your data.
Once you are on separate accounts, you can each go to icloud.com and delete the other person's data from your account.
Note: The essence of the above was created by user, randers4. I
have made substantial changes to improve readability and syntax.

  • Can I have two seperate iTunes lists for two iPods on the same computer?

I have two nanos, one for me and one for my daughter. Can we manage two seperate download lists when we plug in to the same computer.
The additional complication...her nano has a smaller memory than mine, so her's wouldn't hold all the songs anyway.
    Assistance would be appreciated!

  • Can you connect two iPods to the same iTunes library?

This might sound dumb but I honestly have no idea - I want to purchase a second iPod but don't know if I can run them both from the same iTunes library? The new one I want is a shuffle so a much small capacity then my other iPod. Help.

you can use a virtually unlimited number of mobile devices with a single iTunes library. in fact, Apple wants you to buy as many of them as possible

  • CAN I USE TWO IPODS ON THE SAME COMPUTER? PLS help

i cant seem to find alot of info about this on here... i am probably looking in the wrong place... but heres my situation. Ive had an ipod mini for 2 years now but ive just bought an ipod nano ..... i do all of my main downloading on my power mac g4, but i am going away for school soon and im going to bring my ibook with me. i have already transferred my current library from my Power Mac to my iBook.
What i would like to do is keep using my Power mac to do my downloading until i leave in a few months and then start downloading on my ibook once im away. However, i want to use my ipod nano now.... and you know, a few days before i leave i will update all of my songs that i have downloaded on my power mac onto my ibook.
any suggestions would be great. thanks.

Yes you can. Set your IPOds to "Manual Update". The IPOD can only be linked to one ITunes library at a time. If the libraries have the same content the its up to you which one to snyc from either in Auto or Manual mode.
Here is the official Apple statement:
Question: Can I update more than one iPod with my computer?
Answer: Yes. Each iPod communicates a unique device identification number to your computer, allowing you to take advantage of automatic music transfers to your iPod even if you share a computer with another iPod user. You can choose to automatically update your entire music collection on multiple iPod players or choose to update selected playlists, allowing you to transfer custom playlists to individual iPod players

  • How do you have two iPods on the same computer?

Hi everyone, I previously had an iPod mini installed on my computer. Then at Christmas my parents got me an iPod nano, and when I tried to install it on this computer, it made me delete all of the files from my iPod mini. I was then able to download my nano, and everything has been working out fine. However, my dad wants to get an iPod now, and I don't know what to do in order to keep both of our iPods on the computer. Can you please tell me how?

  • Transferring songs between two iPods on the same computer

I am using one iTunes on a windows XP platform for two iPods and I am trying to transfer songs from one to the other. iTunes recongnizes both iPods and all the songs, but I can't drag any songs or folders from my library to the new iPod I just purchased. It keeps telling me the source file cannot be found, yet the song and/or folder are there. What am I doing wrong?

Yeah, it is currently only syncing songs that are on your PC and in the iTunes library that it can find on your PC's hard drive.
    +resulted in a radom mix of songs which I can't figure out.+
Here is a post by Zevoneer that will help you if you need to reverse sync songs from your iPod to iTunes - it's slooooow & confusing if you use itunes.
A 3rd party program that you buy is probably your best bet.
