Connecting Two Lx Port

Hi All,
Can i connect two Lx ports in two different switches in the same room using a SC-SC Single mode fiber Patch cord ? Will i be getting any bit rate error?
Regards,
R. Rajaraman

If you connect two LX ports with a jumper, you *better* have some attenuation inline, or you risk seriously damaging the receiver in each of the transceiver modules.
How much attenuation? You need to look at the spec for the receiver, look at the spec for the transmitter, and make up the difference with an attenuator (or two or three ....).
Bit errors? Oh yes, you bet .... think about someone putting a kilowatt of audio next to your head and screaming directions to you through that system ..... do you think you'd hear them clearly?
Same thing ....
Summary:
You are connecting systems made to drive a signal for many miles .... you have to drop the signal to make it look like it's gone through many many miles of media.
Good Luck

  • Connecting two EG005W's together?

    Hello,
I need to connect two 5-port EG005W workgroup switches together. The ports are labeled #1, ..., #5 & non is marked as an "uplink" port. The documentation (user guide) does not cover connecting this device to another switch. Is one of the ports an uplink or is a crossover cable required between the two switches?
    Thanks!

    Hi!
Sorry to bring back this old topic (not that old!!!) but I'm having the same problem!
At first, I tried to connect both computers to one EG005W... the computer close to it connected fine. The computer downstairs (20m cable, if that much) didn't even lit the green light on the routers. Although it's rated for 100m, I thought maybe this small switch just can't handle such distance. Heck... not even this computer connected directly to the WRT54GL worked, green light but no data transfer, no network activity (I tested the cable, it was perfect). So, I changed the network a bit... connected the computer that was previously working to the router (OK, 2m cable, working on port 2), connected the 20m cable to the router on port 3 and the other RJ45 of this 20m cable to the switch. And it worked, but my network was limited to 100mbps due to the router's limitation.
EUREKA! All I need is another Gb switch to cascade, right??? WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's just not working... and it's not IP issue because the green leds on the switches don't even light up! Even it I messed the cable, had electrical interference, I would get at least the green lights, right?
    Here's what I got now:
    Cable Modem -> WRT54GL Router -> EG005W (one computer, 2m cat6 cable) -20m cat6 cable-> EG005W (another computer).
The cable is fine, it works if I remove the EG005W and attach it directly to the router... the switch downstairs work fine.
One other thing... I tried to cascade both switches with a short cable (cat5e) and it didn't work too. I crossed-over the cable and it worked...
Do you have any idea what's going on??? Is 20m of cable too much for this small device? It's the only thing I can think...
I'm an IT Manager, I deal with Cisco routers and switches... those things work so smooth, I don't understand why this thing is not working.
    Thanks!

  • AS5350 Redundency (two ethernet ports) ?

    Hiya,
The AS5350 has two ethernet ports. However, I am unable to find supporting information as to why ?
I assume it's for redundency. However, how do Cisco recomend to design VoIP redundency within this AS5350 ? i.e connect two ethernet ports to two different ethernet swicthes.
HSRP is not the correct tool for the job here.
    .......... uhhmm, so what's the secret ?
    Thanks for reading
    Matt C

This can be used as redunant ports only ion case of failure of another. But this should not be confused with a switch port which will be working as a redundancy. Here u have to configure manulayy other port if one fails.

  • I have a time capsule and two air port expresses. The time capsule is in the middle of my house, the expresses equidistant in opposite directions. I would like the expresses to both connect directly to the capsule, but they are connected in serial. How?

I have a time capsule and two air port expresses. The time capsule is in the middle of my house, the expresses equidistant in opposite directions. I would like the expresses to both connect directly to the capsule, but they are connected in serial. How to reconfigure.
I ask because I have music running out of both expresses, and the one that is most distant from the time capsule (routed through the first express) regularly drops the music signal from itunes. And I am guessing the serial configuration of the routers has something to do with this, but my root problem is music dropout - any thoughts would be appreciated.

If you have the the most current model of the Express devices, the default setup is to "extend" the wireless signal.  In this type of setup, each Express communicates directly to the Time Capsule.
How did you setup the AirPort Express devices?
What version of the Mac operating system are you using on your MacBook?   Or, do you have AirPort Utility installed on your iPad?

  • Can't connect two external drives via USB hub to the same port.

I have two external hard drives connected to my MacBook Air, along with other USB devices, using a powered USB hub. When I connect both external drives to the same port via the USB hub, one of them disconnects with an error message saying it was improperly disconnected. The same thing happens when I connect one of the hard drives and an external DVD drive via the USB hub. The two drives work fine when connected to separate ports. Other USB devices coexist with one of the drives quite happily. Can anyone explain why this is?

External drives may well require more power than a port can supply. Also, many USB hubs cannot be used for external drives. It's always best to connect an external drive directly to the USB port. If the drive enclosure has a second USB port on it, then you can daisy-chain a second drive to the first, sometimes.

  • Cisco 2950 MT-RJ ports - Connect two switches?

    Hi Everyone,
I'm wondering if I can connect two cisco 2950s together via the two MT-RJ ports they have?
Basically, I'd like the fibre ports to be the trunk between the two switches if possible
    I have two of these:
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Yes, that is possible. As long as your fiber patch cable is good there should be no issues.

  • Is there a way to connect two analog mics recording in stereo to the iPad for recording?

I currently use an M-Audio Mobile Pre to connect two microphones to my MacBook Pro via USB. If I wanted to use my iPad (or even iPhone) instead, is there a way to get the stereo input into the iPad? Would the Line 6 Sonic Port sold via Apple work? Would it take 2 separate inputs and deliver stereo to Garage Band or another recording app? Or is there another way?

Exactly that -- the procedure is described in the online Help: InDesign Help | Text variables
Now every time you insert the variable named "# of potatoes", you'll see the text "50" appear (with a minimal rectangular marker to indicate it's a variable), and when you want another number of potatoes, all you have to do is adjust the text in the Variables dialog.

  • Can I connect two monitors to a Mac Mini?

Can I connect two Monitors to a mac mini

Yes, but how depends on what model of Mini and what kind of monitors.  Early models only had one monitor port.  Later models had a Mini-DVI port and a Mini-Displayport.  Current models have a Mini-Displayport and a HDMI port.  The Mini-DVI and Mini-Displayport can attach VGA or DVI monitors, whereas the HDMI port can't use VGA monitors.
Beyond that, you can get Matrox's DualHead2Go or a USB->VGA or USB->DVI adapter.  The Matrox product is a bit expensive and the USB adapters are a bit to slow for games and such.  So, again, the answer is "yes", but with limitations

  • How can I connect two PS3 to the same Linksys WRT54G correctly

    Hi,
i'm trying to connect two PS3 to the same routeur without having conflicts. Everytime i try to update my game softwares it tells me error 80710723 or now 8002AD23. I gave the two PS3 different IP adresses, i opened all the ports that Playstation suggested me to open (http://playstation.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/241) and gave them different DNS adresses but still they cannot download any software content without bugging the console. I also use a PC, Tablet and Phone with my wireless connection.
    thank you
    -François

Well in this case the error code (80710723 ) is generated when the internet connection is slow. So you can try the following step:
    # Open up the browser and on the address bar type 192.168.1.1 that will open up the Router setup page.
    # Lower the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) from 1500 to 1400 or less (usually found on your router's main/ basic setup page)
    # Make the Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 6, 9, 11..
#Adjust the following advanced wireless settings:
~~ Lower the beacon interval from 100 to 75
~~ Lower the fragmentation threshold from 2346 to 2306
~~ Lower the RTS threshold from 2347 to 2304

  • Connect two ipods at same time?

I have a fortunate problem/question. My son got a nano ipod and I got a 30MB ipod. We both would like to charge them and get running. Can you connect both at the same time? I have two USB ports and could physically do it. I know that you can use multiple units with a single computer, but there is nothing about charging them at the same time in the documentation.
    Thanks

I've had 3 ipods connected at the same time. They all show up under Devices.

how can I connect two thunderbolt monitors to my macmini in windows 8 and bootcamp? Works fine in OSX

Did you try to hook up both monitors to the Belkin adaptor? Trying will determine if your monitor has a bad input port. See if the Belkin adaptor is the problem. I have never used that specific adaptor, but I have always had luck with the Dr. Bott's DVI for ADC adaptor. Best of luck.

  • Problem connecting two trunks to sip provider using same CUBE

We need to connect two SIP trunks from service provider to Cisco CUCM 7.1 using CUBE “Cisco 2821”, SP using the following configuration:
    First SIP PSTN Link Configuration(In-Out DID/DOD 218 7700 – 218 7799)
    Customer IP Address =   10.196.191.158/30
    SP IP Address =  10.196.191.157/30
    Protocol= SIP
    SIP Port = 5060
    Transport Protocol=UDP
    Voice Codec= G711 A-Law
    DTMF = IN-Band DTMF without RFC2833
    Signaling IP address = 10.201.20.49
IP Address 10.201.20.10 (Media IP) must be visible from IP PABX
Second SIP PSTN Link Configuration( Inbound Only 920009999)
    Customer IP Address =   10.196.192.94/30
    SP IP Address =  10.196.192.93/30
    Protocol= SIP
    SIP Port = 5060
    Transport Protocol=UDP
    Voice Codec= G711 A-Law
    DTMF = IN-Band DTMF without RFC2833
SIP server IP address = 10.201.20.49
IP Address 10.201.20.10 (Media IP) must be visible from IP PABX
When we tried to configure both links on the same CUBE we faced two problems:
    -          Routing issue, as we can’t route traffic using single CUBE through two different interfaces to the same destination “ i.e we have to configure static route commend (ip route 10.201.20.49 255.255.255.255 10.196.191.157 & ip route 10.201.20.49 255.255.255.255 10.196.192.93), sip traffic coming from one link can’t be sure to send it back to the same link.
    -          SIP media & signaling control binding issue, as CUBE support sip binding using one interface only “one IP Address”, if we not using binding commands on the CUBE we can’t receive any calls though any link.
    We have two options:
SP to send both traffic on the same trunk link
    Or
Have another CUBE for the second link.
    Attached network diagram.
    Any solution?????
    Regards,
    Ahmed Rizk

I didn't mean NAT CUCM, I meant the interface towards it. But since you're using a single interface then yes that is what you NAT. You have a lot going on in that config. Probably a lot more than you need. Like I said you should work on this in two legs. CUBE to ITSP, and then CUCM to CUBE. You're trying to make the whole thing work in one shot which is going to cause you some headaches.
Install XLite free version. In the account settings set your UserID to a generic 10 digit phone number, domain to something generic, then at the bottom set the Proxy Address to the IP of your CUBE. The media ports will be negotiated dynamically between the CUBE and the ITSP. Since you said you're not registering you will also need to give the ITSP YOUR peer IP (this is how they secure the trunk) which is whatever IP you're sourcing from when you leave your network (what you're NAT'ing the CUBE to).
For testing, reduce your config to something like this:
    voice service voip
     allow-connections sip to sip
     allow-connections h323 to sip
     no supplementary-service sip moved-temporarily
     no supplementary-service sip refer
     signaling forward none
     sip
    dial-peer voice 10 voip
    description CUBE_TO_ITSP
    session protocol sipv2
session target ipv4:SIGNALING IP PROVIDED BY ITSP
    destination-pattern [2-9].........
    codec g711ulaw
    dtmf-relay rtp-nte sip-notify
    no vad
    dial-peer voice 20 voip
    description ITSP_TO_CUBE
    destination-pattern .
    session protocol sipv2
session target ipv4:Eventually your CUCM IP...for now set it to your computers IP.
    codec g711ulaw
    dtmf-relay rtp-nte sip-notify
    no vad
Use XLite to place a phone call from your PC (if you have a mic and speakers you can have audio if the call connects). This should come pretty close to getting your outward leg established. Once you get this part working you can add in more codecs and translation profiles if you want. Let me know what happens. Include any debug or packet cap results if you can.

  • Connect iMac MiniDisplay port to VGA or composite projector, PLEASE!??

I have an iMac and an Epson Powerlite 77c projector I am wanting to link up. I need to go from the minidisplay port in the back of the imac to either composite or vga (female) connection. Apple has a minidisplay to vga adapter which i'm assuming will work.
Epson Projector connections - VGA (female,) Video and audio in (composite), S-video
iMac display connections- Mini display port
Would it be better to use vga or composite for watching movies and using the computer through the projector?
And...if i am thinking of the correct cable i'm also going to need an extension to actually get to the monitor. Since the minidisplay to vga cable is female and so is the vga input on the projector, Is there such thing as male-male vga cable and would it send the signal properly from the imac to the projector?
Is there any other way to link these two devices up? Component switch or wireless transmitter?
    Thanks

Apple has a minidisplay to vga adapter which i'm assuming will work.
    Yes, it will work fine!
Would it be better to use vga or composite for watching movies and using the computer through the projector?
The iMac is not able to connect via composite cable at all. VGA, Mini Display Port, and HDMI (through adapter) are the only types of cabling that will work. Keep in mind that composite is the absolute WORST video quality you could hope for. Here is the scale from worst to best...
Composite, S Video, Component, VGA, DVI/HDMI/MDP (these last 3 are essentially the same quality)
Is there such thing as male-male vga cable and would it send the signal properly from the imac to the projector?
Yes, they are extremely common, and it will work fine. I would be surprised if there wasn't an extra cable of this sort already in the projector bag. It is standard gear for all of my office's projector sets.
Is there any other way to link these two devices up? Component switch or wireless transmitter?
The best connection you can make with the powerlite 77c is through VGA.

can i connect two monitors to my mac book pro with HDMI?

I retract my previous "No." If you can live with limited performance (slow refresh/choppy action video/no gaming) on the second external monitor, you could use a USB video adapter and a DVI-HDMI adapter to connect it to a USB port on your computer.

Just a note about the system information that appears below your post: iOS 4.3.3 does not run on Macs, only on iPods, iPads and iPhones. When you're posting about your MBP, it would be more useful to those responding to know which version of Mac OS X you're running. Doesn't matter for purposes of this post, but something to remember for future posts.
