Connecting two sun boxes directly

I have a V490 and V890; both running Solaris 10 (build 6-06). Both are connected via separate nics to both a 10. and external networks. These both work fine.
I have an extra single head NIC in one machine and an integrated dual head NIC in the V490 and would like to direct connect the machines via their respective NICs (10. local network has very poor throughput and it takes forever to move large files via ftp). Machines are both in the same rack so the physical distance is about 18".
Using ifconfig to setup the cards (went well as each can ping itself and the OS recognizes cause the console spews an error when the cable is pulled from either).
All of the trim files have been added/modified (/etc/hosts, /etc/hostname.ce1 (both NICS are known as ce1). Did not modify /etc/netmasks or /etc/networks.
Then used route add to add a route from one IP to the other (192.168.0.246 for the V490 and 192.168.0.248 for the V890).
Using netstat -rn the routes appear in the routing table.
Unfortunately nothing works; cannot ping from one to the other. I have enabled IPv4 routing with the routeadm command. This shows up as being enabled.
I have hired an external solaris "Expert" and he cannot seem to get this simple task completed either.
I have checked and rechecked the xover cable between the two nics - it has been proven good.
I could use some help with this - why does Solaris have to be so difficult in accomplishing what should be a trivial task?
Frustrated with Solaris and its incredibly awkward approach to everything.

Thank you; but we have used the traceroute, got the multiple interfaces message but the traceroute goes nowhere. Reports back the **** view
Any other ideas? Interestingly when the traceroute is running we get the "traffic" light on the NIC flashing on/off. So the machine sees the NIC, traffic is being sent on the NIC but no pass across.
In my netstat -rn should I have the destination as exactly the IP of the other end, ie 192.168.0.246 or should it come up as 192.168.0.0 (which is placed there by the entry in /etc/netmasks?
thanks again

  • CONNECTING TWO SUN SYSTEMS

I am new to sun sytems, I recently purchase two systems ultra 60 and sparc 20 I installed both solaris 7, I also have 8port hub, what I would like to know is how do connect these two systems, I don't want go to the outside world yet just home network.
I connect the two systems trough the hub i am getting a link I can ping the machine I am in it but Ican't see the other machine.
this is what I did configuring the network.
    # If config hme0 plumb
    #if config hme0 plumb 192.6.6.1 netmask+ broadcast+ up
    then I went to
    # vi /etc/hosts and added that IP address
    # 192.6.6.1 micheal
unfortunately I can't see the other system

Make sure both machines are on the same subnet and of course, that they do not have the same IP address.

  • Connecting two external speakers

    hi
i have one small question: is there any real harm into connecting two external speakers directly to the mac without the help of an amplifier?
    will there be any problems?
    thanx for replying

I did actually hook 'em up, without the amplifier and it does work with an acceptable level of sound(sounds quite nice) but i need to know whether this will har my mac in the long run.
I have two JBL column speakers.

  • Best way to connect two fact tables when no conformed dimension exists

Can anyone please elaborate how would I connect two fact table without any conformed dimension. Let say FACTA, FACTB. FACTB is related to a dimension "StatusDim". I want to select the count of all FACTA item which are related to FACTB items with
a particular status. I have found the following article but just wondering whether it is the best practise to connect two fact tables directly.
    http://bifuture.blogspot.com/2011/11/ssas-selecting-facts-with-reference.html
    Thank you

    Hi Ahsan,
After read the blog you posted, I think it's a pretty good solution to create a view in the relational database or a named query in the Data Source View containing as the the columns in FACTA and FACTB. Then build a dimension from it, setting the "Null processing"
property (you have to click the "plus" two times for the "Key Columns" property of the attribute in BIDS to access this property) to "UnknownMember". And then use this dimension for the many-to-many relationship. Dimensions from FactA can benefit of the reference
relationship between FactA and FactB and therefore a powerful solution it is.

  • Is it possible to directly connect two Xserves with a Promise VTrak E610fD via Fibre?

I have two Xserves and I'd like to connect them with a Promise VTrak E610fD. As this storage has two controllers, I'd like to connect both Xserve with both controllers. Is this setup possible? Can I access (read and write) the same disk array with both Xserves simultaneously (Xsan?) or do I have to create two separate arrays?

Hello bleistift, and welcome to the AppleBoards,
Fibre channel is SCSI which means that any device connected by fibre assumes it is in sole control of that device. When you attach more than one machine via fibre both machines assume they are in control and unexpected behaviors and data corruption ensues. SAN (like Apple's XSAN) provides a layer of arbitration over the shares allowing multiple fibre connections to play nicely with one another while still being connected over fibre.
You could easily connect two machines to a single RAID box if they are accessing different RAID volumes at the same time, but once you start connecting to the same data at the same time you need SAN.

  • Directly Connect Two Macs Via Ethernet

This has certainly been answered before, but a quick search didn't give any results. So here goes ...
I wanted to connect two macs via ethernet. I use the mount tool in finder "connect to server" all the time with machines on a network, but I've never done with with two macs directly connected.
So I connect them and my first instinct is to check the IP address of the machine I want to connect to. I then go to "connect to server" and type it in using the AFP protocol, but it doesn't work.
At this point I'm stumped and not sure what to do. I don't use the "network" item in the finder sidebar very often but I clicked it, and sure enough the machine I want to connect to was listed, and I was able to connect / mount.
So here's my question ... if I wanted to use "connect to server" tool, or even mount it manually with the mount command, how would I do it? Is it using AFP still to mount and the IP address is just bogus? Something else going on?

But I'm telling you I tried using the IP address ... here, let me try again ...
I find this address on the machine I want to connect to: 169.254.177.122
I put this into "connect to server" on the machine I want to connect from: afp://169.254.177.122
It spins for a while, then says it can't connect. Strangely, if I do a cmd-i on the machine in the network sidebar, it says: nfs:// automount ... into /Network
So are you sure putting in the ip should work? If so what am I doing wrong?
Okay ... plot thickens. When I cmd-i after I connect, it indeed says it is an AFP connect, but it gives the "local" name, say powerbook.local. But then, if I "ping powerbook.local" if gives me back the same IP I tried in connect to server. Huh?
    mbp:~ rjcarr$ ping powerbook.local
    PING powerbook.local (169.254.177.122): 56 data bytes
Weird. It isn't that big of a deal ... I just like to know what is going on.

  • Directly connect two N7700 via 100Gb link

    Hello,
We are using N7700 chassis with 100G line cards (N77-F312CK-26).
    Transceivers are 100GBASE-SR10 (link).
I'm wondering if it's possible to directly connect two chassis using some 24-fiber MPO cable, e.g. this one.
My most concern is about polarity issues, because aforementioned cable doesn't have a possibility to change it in-place (unlike PanMPO connectors).
P.S. I've also found this document (link), that states such configuration is possible, although the cable from another manufacturer is used.

Just received an e-mail from Panduit support:
    Panduit Response:
    Hello,
Yes, our 24F cable is capable of direct connect.  Fibers 1-12 on one end go to 13-24 on the other and 13-24 hit 1-12.
I trust that this helps clarify the situation

  • KeepAlive not working with WL 6.1 SP1 in a Sun box.

    Hi all,
We deployed the same exact application in a linux and in a solaris box (for QA
purposes), and noticed that the keepalive configuration is not been respected
in the Sun box. If we telnet to our web server, we read the returning headers
    including the following: Connection: close
And actually, the telnet connection is really closed right away.
Those particular boxes are NOT behind any firewall or load balancer.
    Any clues?
Also, if by any chance anybody has seen the following problem before, please responde:
Behind a cisco firewall and cisco local director, our HTTP connection is been
closed for every request (keepalive not working as explainned above). But, in
the case of a redirect, Internet Explorer tries to reuse the same connection (so
I believe), that is actually hanging there for extra 3 seconds after the headers
are delivered (including the Connection: closed header). This causes IE to hang
for 3 seconds before finally reopenning a new connection with the server and request
for the redirected page. Netscape doesn't experience this problem, and neither
does Mac OS versions of those two browsers.
We saw it happening in all flavors of IE under windows platform.
    Vanderlei

I use Mozilla not Netscape but the installation should
be similar. Go to the Release Notes for NS 7.1 (should
be a menu item) and find the Java plug-ins section and
follow that.. As I said before, you might need to copy
a JRE DLL to your NS plugins folder.
Is JRE 1.4.02 is installed correctly, you should have
a Java plugin item in the control panel.I used to run Mozzilla too and removed it when I upgraded NS, which I use for HTLM authoring. Java worked fine with Mozzila.
When I ran the installer again last evening it reported that J2re had been installed sucessfully it took about 30 minutes to do it. Installed version is JAVA 2 Runtime Environment (JRE) Standard Edition Version 1.4.2_X
I checked the control panel as I generally do, and it was there OK. Nothing has changed - will check out The release notes for NS 7.1
    Regards and thanks again,

  • How do I connect two apple compuiters

I would like to connect two apple computers together - how can I do it.

And take 4x longer if not worse? and WHY and what is this for?
Want to make one client and the other the server? Heck, how about old Fibre interconnect? can't go out and buy an XRAID box but that would.
Do you want to use XSAN?
Xsan is a powerful and scalable solution for storage consolidation. Now everyone in your organization can have fast, concurrent access to terabytes of centralized data. Built into OS X, Xsan allows any Mac with a Thunderbolt to Fibre Channel adapter to access an Xsan volume. OS X Server includes the Xsan Admin application for hosting and configuring Xsan volumes.
    http://www.apple.com/osx/server/features/
Xsan is Apple Inc.'s storage area network (SAN) or clustered file system for Mac OS X. Xsan enables multiple Mac desktop and Xserve systems to access shared block storage over a Fibre Channel network. With the Xsan file system installed, these computers can read and write to the same storage volume at the same time. Xsan is a complete SAN solution that includes the metadata controller software, the file system client software, and integrated setup, management and monitoring tools.
Xsan has all the normal features to be expected in an enterprise shared disk file system, including support for large files and file systems, multiple mounted file systems, meta data controller failover for fault tolerance, support for multiple operating systems, etc.
    Interoperability
Xsan is based on the StorNext File System.[2] The StorNext File System and the Xsan file system share the same file system layout and the same protocol when talking to the meta data server. They also seem to share a common code base or very close development based on the new features developed for both file systems.
The Xsan website claims complete interoperability[3] with the Quantum Corporation StorNext File System: "And because Xsan is completely interoperable with Quantum’s StorNext File System, you can even provide clients on Windows, Linux, and other UNIX platforms with direct Fibre Channel block-level access to the data in your Xsan-managed storage pool."[4]
Quantum Corporation claims "Complete interoperability with Apple’s Xsan and Promise RAID and Allows Xsan and Xserve RAID to support AIX, HP-UX, IRIX, Red Hat Linux, SuSE Linux, Mac OS X, Solaris, and Windows clients, including support for 64 Bit Windows and Windows Vista."[5]

  • Connecting Two Power Supplies in one PC

    Hello there  :hypecrite:
Will someone help me on how to connect two Switching P/S in one PC (If it's possible)?
I tried using two P/S in my old PC and it's working just fine. However, the problem is that I cannot switch them on simultaneously because the one is connected directly to the motherboard and the other, I just used a simple switch to turn it on.
Also, please check my P/S for this PC if it's OK.
    Thank you and more POWER!!!
     :hypecrite:

    Hello again :hypecrite:
Thank you for your support guyz.  I would like to tell you that you are all correct.
I think it's time for me to stop fooling aroung, experimenting things, too.  And to trust the verdors instead.  I looked for the psu brands that you all mentioned and it turned out my pockets could still handle such a cost, eventhough it costs twice as much as the psu that I have right now, but as long as it's dependable.
And about the problem with my CPU's temperature that I posted last November 12, 2004 (MSI KT4A-V with S/PDIF out and Core center), AMD support center finally replied to me and told me that my temp is OK but not to go above 70C.
Below is my inquiry to AMD and their reply:
    My inquiry:
    Dear Sir:
I would like to ask what is the NORMAL operating temperature of Athlon XP 2400+ FSB 266 model 8?
When my PC is at idle, my CPU temp reading is 60C and during full load, it reaches to about 66C. It doesn't have any problems though (such as random reboot) but I'm a bit concerned of the temperature reading.  Some people say that it's a bit TOO HOT  for comfort. Still others say that it is OK.  What do you think?
I have read your post on MAXIMUM operating temperatures of Athlon XPs but not the recommended NORMAL operating temperatures.
And also when I turn  the BIOS CPU core voltage to AUTO mode the default is 1.575V. My friends said the minimal operating voltage of 2400+ is 1.650V. Is it OK to just leave it to default?
    Thank you very much

    The Reply:
    Dear Guillem,
Thank you for contacting Asian and Pacific AMD Technical Support Centre.
I can confirm that the temperatures ranges from 40° - 55° C  in moderate usage and with a higher workload around 65° C, but never over 70° C.
What the correct voltage is concerned there are three models of the Athlon XP 2400+. If you have the CPU with the OPN AXDA2400DUV3C the
voltage should be 1.60V otherwise it is 1.65V.
It seems your system would overheat dangerously when set to the right voltage. I would suggest, you do check if the heatsink /fan is installed
    properly.
You may find a different reading after upgrading your BIOS.
    * Please make sure to download the right BIOS version for your motherboard.
Then, please, make sure that your processor Athlon XP 2400+ is configured in BIOS as follows:
    -          FSB speed to 133MHz (It is a bidirecctional bus, the full speed would be 266)
    -          CPU multiplier of 15x
    -          CPU voltage of 1.65V (1.60V if OPN = AXDA2400DUV3C)
With these settings the clock frequency of the processor should be 2000 MHz.
And finally you can test the CPU on another system to establish if the processor or the motherboard is responsible for the problem . If no other system is
available to you then ask your retailer/reseller to test it for you.
Given the case that the processor is faulty, we inform you that the PIB processors (box processors) have 3 years warranty, whilst OEM processors (tray processors) have only one year. In both cases the first year is given by the reseller and the PIB processors second and third years are served directly by AMD.
If you have any further questions, please, do not hesitate to contact us again.

Yesterday, I increased the CPU voltage to 1.60V (from the default of 1.575) and my temp reading was reduced to 50C at idle (from an idle of 60C) and at full load to 60C (from a full load of 66C).  I was not expecting this though.  I was expecting that my CPU's temp will increase further.  But this is what happened. I guess the RIGHT THING should be the RIGHT THING.
Tomorrow, I will buy a new psu with the brands that you mentioned and I hope that my PC's stability and performance will increase further.
Again thank you very much for your support and all.

  • Why do I need to connect QTR and S+ directly on the strain gage?

I connected two wires with a 2" 120-ohm strain gage. Later, connect these wires to a strip connector. Now connect the red wire from NI system (SCXI-1314 which is already converted for 120-ohm) to red in the strip. This red is P+ in SCXI-1314. Now I connect the black (QTR in SCXI-1314) and white (S+ in SCXI-1314) to the white wire on the strip connector. Unfortunately this did not work. I got a constant strain output. But when  I connect the black (QTR in SCXI-1314) and white (S+ in SCXI-1314) to the strain gage directly it works fine.
I tried with 4 strain gages and got the same result.
It will be great if any one can tell me what went wrong?

    Hi Shaurav,
Sorry, in my last post, I meant to say "SCXI-1520", which I am assuming you have  because you have the 1314 terminal block.  The SCXI-1520 has programmable gain, as mentioned HERE.  Also, I recommend looking at THIS discussion forum post becauseit talks about the different ways to set that gain.  Have you tried applying a gain in Measurement and Automation Explorer?  How are you programming this?  Thanks!
