Connecting usb product to scsi port

hi folks. i have a Power Macintosh G3/233 Desktop. there are no usb ports and i'd like to hook up a scanner that has an older usb port (usb 1.1). is there any sort of adapter product out there that i can use?
seems as the scsi to usb adapters are more for connecting scsi external devices to a usb port, and not the other way around.
thank you

I installed this IOGEAR USB 2.0 PCI card in my beige G3s and B&W G3s several years ago. Whether the same controller chip (under the IOGEAR label) is being used, I don't know now. You didn't indicate which OS you're running. If it's OS 9.x, the USB card will function at the slower USB 1.1 speed. For USB 2.0 speed (40x faster), you must be running OS 10.2.8 or newer. I had Jaguar installed on one of my beige G3s, but can't remember if the card was recognized at the faster speed. Once the card is installed, you need to install the OS 9.x USB Support drivers (version 1.4.6 or newer) from the OS 9.x installer CD. This can be done with a custom install or with the use of TomeViewer, a downloadable utility that enables you to extract the USB drivers directly from the OS installer tome, for placement in the Extensions folder. The pre-OS X drivers are: HID Library, EnetShimLib, SerialShimLib, USB Device Extension, USB Software Locator, USB Support, and USB Mass Storage Support. As for the scanner, do you know if the manufacturer included Mac OS drivers? Also, do you have Mac-compatible scanner software to use with it?

  • What cord can I buy to hook up my SCSI port scanner to my MacBook USB port?

I have an older Microtek X6 EL scanner that I want to connect to my MacBook via a USB port.  Right now all that is on the scanner is a SCSI port.  I need to find a cord with a SCSI connector (it would be the male piece 25 pin) on one end and a USB 2.0 port on the other end.  I tried Amazon and even ordered one that looked right.  But it wasn't large enough to connect.  Obviously I want one that is Mac compatible but I also run a virtual machine with Windows on my MacBook so I can live with a Windows version if I have to.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Apple dropped the SCSI port for USB and FireWire in 1999.
did find this one on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Cables-To-Go-22429-Adapter/dp/B000067RWK/ref=pd_sim_sbs_e_ 1  It's a 25 pin SCSI to USB, Windows only.

  • Auto shut-down when connecting USB-units (on some units..)

Hi there.. i just bought this mainboard :
    MSI K9N Platinum, nForce 570 Ultra, DDR2, Socket-AM2,2xGbLAN,Firew, ATX, PCI-Ex16
    Version :
    MS-7250
I have read the "shut down" issues from the sticky topics in this forum, and i want to know if this is the same issue...
    Here we go :
I have approx 3-4 connected usb units which works perfectly well..
    - My 3Com OfficeConnect Wireless USB Adapter
    - My wireless keyboard
    - A usb memory stick..
    These work perfectly well..
I also have a Lacie USB 2.0 External Harddrive which works ok enough sometimes.. but it's kinda unstable..
What doesn't work at all.. is my Sony Ericsson W950i when i connect it to _any_ usb port on my computer..
    What happens :
When i insert the usb-cable into the phone.. and win xp (pro sp2) detects the phone, it immidiately shuts down the pc.
Sometimes i have to unplug the power cable for about... 20 seconds to get it to boot again at all.. but most times it's enough to boot as normal.
Is there _anything_ i can do to fix this ? ... or.. do i have to get a replacement motherboard (newer version)..
    PS !!!
*I also tried to flash tie bios (the windows way), but after pressing the "start" button for flashing.. nothing happens.. nothing at all..  Weird
Any ideas on this is rewarded with a digital beer
    Best regards
    Terje.-..-

I'll provide some more (a LOT) of information..
It's part of the report from Everest Ultimate Edition...
I have read thorugh all the posts regarding the USB-trouble (which you linked).. but it's not the same problem as i have (atleast it doesn't seem so..)
I didn't connect anything to the 10'th pin (USBOC)..
    --> https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=57472.0
As you see from this log.. some usb-units are already listed there.. and a lot of other usb units works perfectly well..
It's just a external harddrive, and my phone (both USB connectors) which shuts down my pc...

  • Megaplayer 515 shows as USB PRODUCT

    Hi all,
Hope somebody can help me out here...
I've the Megaplayer 515 and it worked just fine for about a year. I just wanted to download some music to it and I noticed that Windows XP doesn't recognize it anymore. In Device Manager, it shows up as <USB PRODUCT> under IDE/ATA/ATAPI-controllers. The device itself indicates to be connected. I tried the following:
    1. Set USB legacy support to Enabled/disabled/Auto: no change;
    2. Reflashed bios to 9.20 -> I was using a beta bios from MSI to test and thought that may do the trick - bad luck ... no change.
    3. In Device Manager: enabled "Show hidden devices" and uninstalled the <USB PRODUCT>. Then restarted the system and plugged the MP in again. The Hardware Wizard showed up and I choose Auto everywhere. It starting installing the following device: %USB\GenericDeviceDes% and then asked me for the following disk "%DiskName%. It seems that Windows is looking for Stums.sys. However, when I point to the file, the hardware wizard says there was a problem installing the hardware.
    4. Tried reinstalling all USB-devices: I uninstalled all USB drivers through Device manager and restarted the PC. No luck, still <USB PRODUCT>
I tried all USB ports and disconnected all other USB devices. I'm getting sick and tired of this ... Does anyone have another suggestion?
    TNX!

i used to say that when i tried to repair pooty old PCs for friends of mine...
BTW if the MP515 works fine in another computer, then at least the device isn't at fault then!

  • Connecting USB Hub doesn't connect some devices (randomly)

I have quite a few USB devices (normally 5: external Apple Modem, mouse, ext. Apple keyboard, 2 printers), which I plug into a USB 2 hub (externally powered D-Link DUB-H7). When I bring my MBP back to my desk, I plug the hub into one of the ports on my MBP.
In theory, this should connect all of my devices. In practice, it connects only some of them, and which ones it connects seems to be completely random. Sometimes just two, sometimes all of them. Sometimes the keyboard and not the mouse, sometimes vice-versa, and sometimes neither (both plug directly into the hub - I'm not using the keyboard hub).
If I unplug and re-plug the main cable - I get another set of devices. If I unplug the cable to an unrecognized device and re-plug, it is then recognized.
As you might imagine, this is a PITA.
    I have tried:
    - running USB Prober, including logging. This confirms that the non-working devices aren't recognized by the system at all, until I re-plug. The logging doesn't tell me anything that I can make use of.
    - installed the debugging USB kext (http://developer.apple.com/hardwaredrivers/download/usbdebug.html). This makes the USB Prober log give more information, but still doesn't tell me anything that helps. If this causes writing to some other log, I can't find it.
    - replaced the hub with an identical, brand new hub. No difference.
    - replaced the main USB cable with another USB 2 certified cable. No difference.
Looked at the console and system logs. There are some USB-related errors, but nothing unusual happens at the point of connecting the hub. There are msgs from USB Prober, but I get these even when (successfully) unplugging and re-plugging a single device. E.g.

So, any ideas on what this problem is, or how to track it down? The behavior is as if there are two many device-connection events happening in too short a time, and some of them are getting dropped. If so, could be an OS problem. But, that seems pretty basic.
I'd be glad to provide more detailed logs, if someone can specify what to log.

Hi all (esp. Carolyn). I bought a new hub (BelkinUSB 2.0 7-Port Economy Hub http://www.buy.com/prod/belkin-usb-2-0-7-port-economy-hub/q/loc/101/202378584.ht ml ), and my problems are gone.
I did more searching (I had done a lot already), and found a single comment on newegg by someone having similar and worse problems - same D-Link hub, and also on a Mac, though the 2 other Mac users had no complaints.
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductReview.aspx?Item=N82E16817111402&SortField= 0&SummaryType=0&Pagesize=100&SelectedRating=-1&=0&=100&Page=
Some other users of this hub had problems also, on PC's as well, though most had none.
Unfortunately, now I'm stuck w/2 junk hubs (warranty has expired). At least my problems are gone!

    Hi b ,
    Thanks for your response.
There were no accounts in my local security settings so I added SERVICE;Ron and it recognised them both .
To update , I decided to reboot and try the install one more time and Quicktime and itunes installed successfully , ipod appeared to but when I connect my nano I get an error message that the software didn't install correctly . I uninstalled it and reinstalled , ran ipod updater but it's still the same . When I plug in my nano itunes doesn't recognise it and I keep getting a message on my taskbar telling me that this device will run better in a USB 2.0 port but that's what I'm using !!?? . Any ideas ? .

I usually connect my iPod through my USB 2.0 ports, but I would like to try connecting it through my firewire port. When I plug in my iPod with the included firewire cable, my computer doesnt recognized the mini is plugged in (the mini is charging so I know its connected). But it works when I use my USB cable.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Reset the iPod when it is connected to the computer. Several attempts may be necessary.

Won't work......since the USB port on the AirPort Express will only support a compatible printer.

In my opinion if its a USB mouse its not necessary to install the mouse driver because the OS recognized automatically the USB device. I recommend to remove the mouse driver. After rebooting the OS you can try to connect the mouse again to port.
    Bye

  • Connecting USB and Charger at the same time

Hello guys, Is there any problem connecting usb and charger at the same time? after that, the Nokia Battery Monitor 2.0 shows 93% after full charge. Any ideia?

yes, there is a male-female usb extension cable sold on computer store.
Just pick up the length you need.
But the price is almost the same with the cheapest 2.0 usb hub (4 port), so you better consider the usb hub one.
    Good Luck.

  • How to share an airport connected USB Disk over internet

    Hi all,
I'm trying to get my AEBS connected USB Disk to be accessible over the internet, so I can access it when I'm not at home.
In Airport Utility I checked both 'Share Disks over WAN' and 'Share Disks over the internet using Bonjour'.
I've also set a few accounts who can connect to it (instead of being guests).
    But what's next?
I can connect to the disk in Finder by selecting the menu-option 'Connect to server' and typing in 'afp://ip-address' (where IP-address is for the AEBS) as long as I'm in my home network, but I tried the same at my work but that doesn't work.
Do I have to configure the AEBS in some other way to make this possible?
Any help, advice would be appreciated.

Using the AirPort Utility, you will need to both enable File Sharing and configure the AirPort for Port Mapping. (Note: It is assumed that your 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) is the only Internet router in your current network configuration. That is, it is connected directly to a broadband Internet modem, and not another router upstream of it.)
The following are the basic steps to configure an AirPort Disk to be accessed from the Internet:
Start the AirPort Utility > Select the AEBSn, and then, note the IP address shown.
    Select Manual Setup.
Verify that Connection Sharing = Share a public IP address is selected on the Internet > Internet Connection tab.
Select Disks, and then, select File Sharing.
Verify that both the "Enable file sharing" and "Share disks over WAN" options are enabled.
Verify that Secure Shared Disks = With a disk password. (Recommended)
Verify that AirPort Disks Guest Access = Not allowed. (Recommended)
Select Advanced, and then, select the Port Mapping tab.
Click the plus sign to add a new port mapping.
For Service, select the "Personal File Sharing" option. (Note: This option would only allow Mac clients to access the AirPort Disks. If you want both Macs and PCs to connect, you would need to leave this field at its default value and enter the appropriate SMB ports to the mix of ports to be opened.)
In the Public UDP Port(s) and Public TCP Port(s) boxes, type in a 4-digit port number (e.g., 8888) that you choose. In the Private IP Address box, type the internal IP address of your AEBSn that you wrote down in step 1. In the Private UDP Port(s) and Private TCP Port(s) boxes, type 548. Click Continue.
In the Description box, type a descriptive name like "AirPort Disk File Sharing," and then, click Done.
    Click on Update.
To connect to the shared AirPort Disk from a remote location using a Mac:
From the Finder > Go > Connect to Server.
Enter the DynDNS-provided Domain Name or Pubic (WAN-side) IP address of the AEBSn, followed by a colon and the Public port number that you choose in step 11 of the previous procedure. For example: afp://www.mydyndnsdomain.com:8888 or afp://123.456.789.123:8888
    Click Connect.
You should be prompted for your user name and password. The user name can be anything you like; the password should be the Disk password for the AEBSn that you created in step 6 previously.
    Click Connect.
