Connecting VGA Monitor to 2007 Macbook Pro

I am trying to connect my old 20" Princeton VGA monitor to my late 2007 Macbook Pro.  I bought an adapter cord that fits perfectly but my Macbook Pro won't recognize that the monitor is there.
I tried changing the resolution but it did not work.
I have used an HDMI cable to connect to my HDTV and it works fine but I cannot get it to work with the VGA monitor and the new cable.
How do you get it to work?

Well, I plugged in a mouse and restarted to computer again.  Went to Preferences and played with the different options... particularly Mirroring and now it works as a second monitor!

How do I connect two monitors to my macbook pro?  This question applies to both DVI and VGA, as I might have to work with multiple sets of monitors.

The MacBookPro only has enough horsepower in the video card for one external monitor.
If you want two or more, you need a MacPro.
Or a MacBook Pro and a Remote Desktop controlled MacMini.

  • Connect two VGA monitors to 13" macbook pro

I have been tasked with pulling out our Director of Finances Lenovo laptop and replacing it with a 13" Macbook Pro with Retina. Currently the Lenovo has a docking station with dual digital monitors and an external keyboard and mouse.  The Director will need the two monitors plus a keyboard and mouse. Is there a docking station that is recomended?  Or what would be the best way to put this all together?  The monitors also have VGA output.

Generally Macs will drive a single monitor with little trouble... after that you may have some work on your hands:

  • How you connect a monitor to a Macbook Pro?

    Hi guys,
I'm interested in connecting the Dell U2312HM monitor to my late 2012, non retina version of the Macbook Pro.
How do I do it? What are the parts that I need to buy?
    Thanks in advance!

This monitor also has a DisplayPort connection.

You should be able to use a DisplayPort(u2312hm) to Mini DisplayPort(Mac) cable which would avoid any adapters. I'm not aware of any issues with this method, but I have not tried it yet. My u2312hm is scheduled to arrive on Friday.
I like mono price for high quality but inexpensive cables.

  • Connecting External Monitor to Old MacBook Pro

I have a MacBook Pro 15 (2.2)  Running OSX 10.58. Computer has 2.33 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor
There is a DVI-out port (funky 8 pin holes/row with 3 rows and the + on the right with a pin hole in each quadrant.
Firewire port, and maybe another firewire port between the first one and the ethernet port.
I'd like to hook this up to a Samsung SyncMaster 245BW monitor. This has a DVI in plug which is similar to the plug on the MacBook, but the thing on the right is a - with no pin holes instead of a + with 4.
Can I make this connection, and what type of adaptor cable will I need?

I had a 1,1 and, as I recall, it came with all the video adapters that I would ever need. Like my 1,1 machine, your 2,2 machine comes outfitted with a Dual-link DVI port, so you should just be able to use a DVI->DVI cable to achieve up to 2560x1600 pixel resolution. Before you purchase the display, however, I would check to make sure that you'll be able to sync correctly... do you have access to the Samsung display? If so, try it out.
    Good luck,

  • Connecting a monitor to a Macbook Pro

How do I connect a Macbook pro to a monitor? When I close the computer it does not seem to connect and the screen on the monitor goes black.

If you want to use the monitor with the computer closed you must use clamshell mode http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3131

  • HT3131 how can i connect 2 external monitors(VGA) to my 2007 macbook pro

I would like to use 2 external monitors simultaneously with my clamshell closed. I have external keyboard and mouse but need to know how to and what to buy in order to achieve this.....havent found anything straight forward on apple site, like a vga dual monitor splitter, so am in need of some advice on how to do this please!

Thanks for the reply. Haven't gotten anything as yet. Just that I burned out my older PowerBook using it as a primary screen w/ a secondary 20" monitor. Would be nice if the MacBooks could be used as a CPU only, connect 2 different monitors, and use the LCD screen when portability is needed. But I suppose that is why Apple makes different types of computers. I know I can rig the video SCSI cable to bypass to LCD screen and use the other built-in monitor. But there goes the warentee and any kind of AppleCare... not that I have ever used it, (until a day after it has expired!)
But thanks for the feedback. Your reply is what I expected. Being that I am a mercenary graphic designer and need to be able to work whenever, and where-ever I need to, the MacPro is not my hardware of choice. As well, I don't have $4000 in my budget. But man do those machines rock! Just think of what NASA could have done with one of those in 1969 when we were going to the moon! But now that the U.S. has decided that manned space travel and even scientific space exploration is not worthy of having a budget, the MacPros are religated to creating new episodes of Jersey Shores!
    Thanks again for your feedback!

  • Can I connect a Power Mac G5 monitor to a Macbook pro?

I still have my Power Mac G5 monitor that still works. I wanted to know if I can connect the monitor to my Macbook pro. I'm not sure what adapters, if any, I should use. Thanks in advance.

What brand and model of monitor and what type of connectors does it have?
PowerMac G5s did not ship with a monitor but you could use several Apple monitors of the time plus common third-party monitors like Sony, ViewSonic, etc. However, the type of video connection varies, even on Apple monitors. So we would need to know what connectors (or at least make/model) to research the required adpators.
If you are asking about a G5 iMac----looks like this:
Then, no, it cannot be used as an external monitor in the traditional sense. You may be able to use third-party, screen-sharing software if both computers are networked. See here:
    http://www.screenrecycler.com/ScreenRecycler.html
It appears the software still supports older Macs.

    18. What is the maximum resolution available for use with the Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter?
The resolution available with the Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter is 1920 x 1200. VGA displays that use higher refresh rates (such as 85 Hz) at resolutions of 1600 x 1200 or greater may not generate video properly until you lower the refresh rate.

    How can I detect displays?
If the detect displays option is not available, hold down the Option key while you are in the Display pane.
How do I select additional resolutions on my display?
You can use the Display pane of System Preferences to specify how your display works. Not all options appear for all display models. By default the best resolution for your display will already be selected in System Preferences.
To select a different resolution, use the Scaled option. Some additional resolutions may be available when you hold the Option button.
I hope this information helps ....

  • How Can I Connect 2 External Display Monitors to a MacBook Pro? Help

I want to know if I can (and How to) connect 2 external display monitors to a MacBook Pro... late 2006 & the new Unibody MBP.
    I'll appreciate

Requires additional hardware - the Matrox DualHead2Go. For the late 2006, you'd need the DualHead2Go Digital Edition, and for the unibody you'd need the DualHead2Go DP Edition, with appropriate cabling (and a DVI-to-VGA adapter for the late 2006 MBP).

I connected an external monitor to my MacBook Pro, but it doesn't open any programs. It Just sits there with a blank screen.  How do I get it to open programs and act like a monitor?

    Dear Jean:
It sounds like you are trying to get your external monitor to act as the primary viewing screen. For example it would have your Doc, Icons, Etc. In order to make the external monitor the primary screen you have to:
    Open System Preferences.
    Choose the Displays Icon
There will be several tabs to choose from pick Arrangement
Drag the toolbar to desired display
Let me know if this helps at all!

  • Late 2007 Macbook Pro: DVI to VGA Adapter

I lost my DVI to VGA Display Adapter for my late 2007 Macbook Pro and can only find adapters for the PowerBook G4. Will this adapter work for my Macbook Pro?
    Thanks!

Yes, all of those DVI+A to SVGA/VGA adapters for Macs are the same. I have adapters from the titanium G4, aluminum G4 and intel MBP and they all have DVI and came with adapters that function the same.

  • How do i connect three external monitors to a macbook pro?

How do I connect three extrenal monitors to my Macbook Pro?

I have a USB to DVI adapter from kensington. I use to use it to power at 14" display.Moving windows around had some tearing and lag. Typing lagged, but it was use-able. It was fine for displaying diffrent stats. The OS treated it as it would any additional display.
But I found it undesirable for any thing tha requires lots dragging and clicking.
Every so often the device would lock up. At witch point the computer would get stuck trying to detect the USB display. I would have to unplug the adapter, cycle the power on the adapter. And then it would be good for a couple more months.
Also some times after a reboot, the adapter would stop working. I would have to unplug it, and login, and then plug it back in.
Coping file to my USB 2 harddrive seemed to cause more lag to the USB to Video Adapter.

  • HT5219 Can I connect my thunderbolt monitor to my MacBook Pro and iMac at the same time

I am wanting to connect my thunderbolt monitor to my MacBook Pro as a secondary monitor when running programs in windows 7 thru boot camp, and also have it connected to my iMac as a secondary monitor when working thru apps on my iMac. Is there a way to do this without having to connect and disconnect cables each time I want to switch.

I don't think it can be done without a KVM switch, & not sure they can handle that resolution.
