Connecting VGA to Appletv

I have a large Sony VGA television and I would like to connect Apple tv to it. What is the best connector to use, or should I just get a flat panel with HDMI connecter?Conneting VGA to

There are hardware converters that will convert HDMI to various other types of output, however there are some issues with doing so that you should be aware of.
HDCP
HDCP compliant converters will not allow you to watch HDCP protected content such as that from the iTunes Store. Non compliant converters exist but we cannot discuss them under the Terms of Use for these communities.
Resolution and aspect ratio
I'm not aware of any converters that will scale the output from the Apple TV, any TV or projector which is used will need to be widescreen and support resolutions of 720p.

  • Connecting VGA port to CRT TV

    Hi,
I have HP elitebook 8440p. Specifications are :
    http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/13520_na/13520_na.html
I might need to connect it to my CRT TV with RCA/S video/component available in TV . Laptop has  VGA port, does this VGA port support TV out to CRT TV thru RCA/S video/Component.Second,I also do have docking station with laptop.Docking station comes with DVI port. If I connect DVI output to CRT TV RGB using adapter would it work .
Do I need convertor to connect vga out/DVI out of this laptop to CRT TV or just an adapter would work.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Thanks,Vikas

    Hi,
Yeah, I got the mini-dvi to video adaptor as I found I already had a mini jack to red and white audio lead so it was the cheapest option... the audio quality is pretty great.. the video is a little softer than i thought it would be (but a crt is bound to soften a little) but pretty good... ive got a 16:9 crt and a widescreen 13" macbook but trying to get these widescreen QT files i have to play back in the right format with out losing too much off the edges was a bit tricky.. quite a lot of trial and error before i got the settings right...
i got it to playback QT movies and stuff directly from a slideshow or from imovie... if you want to watch dvd's id just get a cheap dvd player.. the scart input on a basic dvd player will give you better quality and much less fiddling than going via your mac to a CRT...

  • Can I show a higher resolution on my laptop screen than on a connected (VGA) projector?

Can I show a higher resolution on my laptop screen than on a connected (VGA) projector?
The projector is only 800 by 600 which screws up my desktop each time I project.
Additionally - if I use a remote desktop client for windows, the change in resolution makes the projection in windows unreadble.
    Anything I can do?
    Many thanks - Mike

Will not  work, most likely for BootCamp.  Windows drivers for hunderbolt will only create digital (DVI), not analog (VGA).
Run Windows in Parallels/other-VM-software where OSX runs the Thunderbolt port, or by a USB-VGA adapter.

  • How to connect VGA Monitor via Thunderbolt Display

I've been using my Macbook Air mid 2013 with a Samsung monitor connected via the Mini Display Port to VGA adapter. I've now bought a 27" Thunderbolt display, which I've connect to my Mac, and assumed I could now daisy chain my samsung monitor into the Thunderbolt port in the back of the monitor. This isn't working.
Is this expected behaviour? Some people have said online that it will work if there's some other Thunderbolt peripheral between the Thunbolt Display and the VGA adapter, but I don't know what kind of peripheral they mean.
Apple support says that my model Macbook air can power two external displays.
How can I get this to work?
    Thank you

I want to know if I can connect a vga monitor to the quad by simply getting a vga to dvi adaptor.
    Yes, you can.

  • Home sharing not connecting iTunes to AppleTV

I've been having trouble connecting my iTunes to my AppleTV for the past couple weeks at least.  I can't access any of my downloaded movies or music.  I'm not sure if it's something in a recent update or something?
I have iTunes version 11.1.3 (8) and AppleTV version 6.0.2 (6646.81.1) and I'm on running my iTunes on my MacBook OS X 10.8.5.
    Here's what I've tried:
I have restarted iTunes, my MacBook and the AppleTV
I have reset my Apple TV and set it back up again on my network - all connected to the same network
I have turned off homesharing a few times on both my devices and turned it back on to see if will 'catch' - so to speak
    No luck.
    Any suggestions?

  • Display issue when connecting VGA monitor

I'm having an isue when my Macbook Pro 13 inch 2011 is connected to my LG monitor via VGA, after a while the monitor does not display the image properly I don't know how best to describe it but it is like when a satellite signal is blocky and scrabled. Sorry for the poor description. This occurs both when the Macbook is connected to a monitor with the lid shut so that the monitor is the main display and with the monitor mirroring. I've had a 2008 Macbook with the same set up and there are no issues, anybody know how to solve this?

See if what the user did in this thread:

  • Connecting VGA Monitor to 2007 Macbook Pro

I am trying to connect my old 20" Princeton VGA monitor to my late 2007 Macbook Pro.  I bought an adapter cord that fits perfectly but my Macbook Pro won't recognize that the monitor is there.
I tried changing the resolution but it did not work.
I have used an HDMI cable to connect to my HDTV and it works fine but I cannot get it to work with the VGA monitor and the new cable.
How do you get it to work?

Well, I plugged in a mouse and restarted to computer again.  Went to Preferences and played with the different options... particularly Mirroring and now it works as a second monitor!

  • Lenovo G450 - Want to connect VGA to Plasma TV with HDMI inputs

    Hello Community
I was hoping to get some verification on this from someone that owns a Lenovo G450 Model 2949. I want to understand if I can connect this notebook to my older plasma TV through the VGA output connector. My TV supports S-video, HDMI and Component. Can I purchase any one of those types of VGA to S-video/HDMI/Component connectors and it will work? Will there be any loss of quality when you push the laptop video signal onto the television?
Here's one off amazon for a VGA to HDMI converter:

    Hi
    Welcome to the forums
The quality of the display would remain like a normal vga connection as your laptop does not support hdmi/no hdmi port. So it is better hooking up via a vga cable.

  • Connecting VGA monitor to IdeaPad flex 15

I have connected an external VGA Monitor through the HDMI port (using an HDMI to VGA converter) but the computer won't recognize the monitor. I have tried re-starting the computer, then changing the configuration using (Win+P) to extend or duplicate but it doesn't display the image on the monitor. Could someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

What is the make of the HDMI -> VGA adapter? I have this one: http://store.apple.com/ca/product/H9139VC/A/kanex-atv-pro-hdmi-to-vga-adapter-with-audio-support and will test to make sure the Flex 15 works with it.
    *EDIT*
Plugged into my VGA projector, worked right away. Looks like, at first, the Flex 15 defaults to clone mode. You can switch these modes using Fn + F10, which might explain why it's not showing up.

  • Best Connection VGA or HDMI???

Ok people...i have read all these stories about plugging in DVI to HDMI on LCD's but my question is which connection is the best?? I have a Vizio 32in LCD with both VGA and HDMI. I'm currently using the VGA setup and it automatically went to 1366 x 768 when i first hooked it up. Will i get better resolution off of the DVI to HDMI connection? I'm trying to find the best connection for my mini with the best picture quality. any suggestions is greatly appreciated...

The answer to your question depends a lot on the TV. In a perfect world, the digital HDMI interface would be the superior one. But in practice, a lot of TVs designate VGA as the port of choice for a computer connection and don't correctly handle computer input over the HDMI interface.
The two most typical problems with connecting over HDMI are that native resolution of the panel isn't realized and the other problem is that an overscanned condition is forced by the TV's processor causing the edges of the desktop to be off the screen and out of view, as though they are under the TV's bezel.
You'll just have to try. If HDMI also results in 1366 x 768 and no overscan, then go for it.

  • Audio Out hissing interference from speakers when connecting VGA/DVI lead

    Hi
If I connect my mac air to an amp with speakers via an audio out lead then I get great sound. As soon as I additionaly connect the Mac Air to my LCD TV via the VGA or DVI cables I get this annoying hissing sound that gets louder if I turn the volume up.
I have swapped my audio lead for another but still the same problem.
I used to use the same audio/video leads with an old laptop and had no problems. I assume that the issue is due to the fact that the audio and video connector on the Mac Air are very close to eachother.
Has anyone else had a similer issue or can suggest any alternatives or resolutions? Many thanks.

Thanks for the pointer. Unfortunately it didn't work for me either. I guessed from your original post and got the Monster® iCableLink™ Headphone Adapter for iPhone™ cable. It appears to be a 3.5mm to 3.5mm adapter, which seems odd.
However it doesn't stop the buzzing. What I found did help a bit was to turn the volume on the mac all the way to the top and adjust the volume on the amp to listening volume. That kept the buzzing fairly tame at normal listening volumes.
Any other suggestions would be great.

  • If I connectivity issues for appletv

I have a password on my network but when I connect my appletv it never asks for the password, how do I input my password so that I can connect?

When I reset and try and start from the beginning I am able to pick my wifi, it says connected, and then it goes to the "activating" think screen. I think it would stay there forever. If I try to bypass that it goes to "setting date and time..." Where it says in fine print on the bottom that "if the date and time can't be set, press menu and check your network settings under settings > general > network" all of which I've tried. I have a network password but it never asks for it? If I click on my neighbors Internet it asks for the password, but not when I click on mine? In regards to your actual question, when I click on menu the screen comes up "home sharing" and gives me the options: "computers" or "settings"

  • Ip address to connect powerline to appletv

if I let apple tv automatically configure my Ethernet connection with a powerline adapter it says it is incorrect.  any help

You'd theoretically have a powerline adapter connected to your router and another connected to AppleTV.
I've used Devolo powerline adapters for years and on the whole they're good.
I leave etherent setting on Auto for AppleTV, the Router should be the DHCP server for most users.
