Connecting via Comcast Airport wireless -- 2 computers, 2 operating systems

This is a quirky problem. Tried to get help from my ISP, Comcast, and Apple. To no avail. Have two computers. One a Powerbook G4. Is connected to Comcast Internet via Airport, a CompUSA router, system 10.3.9. No problems.
Here's where the quirky part comes in. Have a G4. Has two hard drives. One hard drive is configured to 10.3.9. It sees the Airport wireless fine (it is in a separate building but close enough to pick up the connection). However, the second hard drive, which is running 9.2.2, simply won't connect. I've tried EVERYTHING I can think of. Looked at other threads, followed their advice. Manually input the IP, Subnet Mask, Router Address, etc., even though Comcast is a DHCP server that usually is automatic. Checked the TCP/IP control panel and that AppleTalk is active and using Ethernet.
Is it even possible to have a computer with two different hard drives with two different operating systems and have both connecting via wireless?
You may wonder why not convert both to OS 10? Because we have some older hardware that functions great and cannot be brought up-to-date and we wish to still use it.
Any advice would be absolutely appreciated! Thanks!!!!

By now, you undoubtedly realize that although I can work my way through problems, I am not a major techie. However, your response did help me tremendously in that I realized that on my harddrive with the 9.2.2 system, I did not have an Airport option/control panel. Big oops! So, I downloaded and installed it and all looked great UNTIL I went to connect to our private Comcast network, which, by the way, works great with the harddrive 10.3.9 already installed in this same computer in the second harddrive. The message I keep getting when I try to connect to our Airport network is an error -3151. I used the disk utility to no avail. And, at first, it kept telling me there was a password error . . . which there is not. I even tried the "easy fix" of turning off the computer and restarting. Still no help. Any ideas?

My Canon MX 922 does not scan. My printer is connected via cable. Wireless doesn't work either.  I get an error message with multiple suggestions but none of them apply to my situation.
I am so dissatisfied with this printer.  I'm sorry I got it from Amazon because now it is a hassle to return it.  I will never buy another Canon.
The printer menus are confusing.  I hate using it.  I loved my previous Canon which finally stopped working after many years, that's why I purchased a newer Canon model.  Never again.  Stick with cameras.

This note won't be as angry and frustrated as the last one...
Because I still had my old printer drivers and other applications on my hard drive, I think the application was trying to connect with the old printer.  I deleted all the old stuff.
I also had several scanning applications on my drive which just confused me.
When I used the actual Canon MX922 application, I was able to scan but could only save as JPG, TIF or BMP (and one more, I forget which).  So I did some research on the Canon site and found out how to save documents as PDF files using the Canon IJ Scan Utility.
It works now.  So I'm satisfied, will keep this maching.  I just had to take some time, sit down and focus on the problem.

    Hi Jake,
Is it connecting to the Router or Modem?
Is the new Router using maybe WPA2 encryption? If so, G4s can only do WPA or less.

The Interface that connects to the Internet, needs to be drug to the top of System Preferences>Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations and checked ON.
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.

  • Window XP setting to connect to my Airport wireless

I have installed Window XP through Boot Camp on my MacBook, but I am having trouble connecting to my Airport wireless connection for my internet.
Is there something I need to set up in order for Window to find Airport to lock in?
Can somebody assist me to have internet connection though Window?

I'm not quite sure of your situation.
Are you certain you've installed SP2 on Windows XP?
When you boot into Mac OS X, can you get the Internet through your ethernet cable?
When you boot into Mac OS X, can you get the Internet through your wireless (AirPort) connection?
And you say you cannot get Internet through Windows, neither ethernet cable nor wireless?
If you can get Internet through Mac OS X with ethernet cable, but not through Windows with ethernet cable, that sounds like a Windows installation or driver problem, per the comment above. In Windows, have you tried Start -> Control Panel -> Automatic Updates, and get the latests Microsoft update?

  • Can you use Time Capsule as a print server for printers connected via Ethernet or wirelessly?

Can you use Time Capsule as a print server for printers connected via Ethernet or wirelessly?
I know that it works marvelous for printers connected via USB, but I'd like to know if you can use it as a more general print server.

No, you can't, but what do you expect to gain by doing so?
The main advantage of the print server is to provide multi-user network access to a printer that typically only supports a single connection. Since, by definition, your printer already has a network connection and can be used by multiple users.

  • Ipad apps won't load when connected via Comcast wifi

We are trying out Comcast for 30 days. We already had Uverse so right now we have both. When connect via Uverse everything works fine on my iPad as always has. Internet access, apps load etc. when I switch over to the Comcast wifi, I can access internet just fine. Sped test are all hella fast. But for some reason a few of my apps/games won't load. for example I have a price is right bingo game. It will not load when connected via Comcast. I get an error that say it won't connect and to check my internet access. and my internet access will be working fine.  If I switch back over to uverse the game will load.  There are a couple other apps doing the same thing. Anyone seen this before? I have an iPad Air 2 on iOS 8.1.2

    Hello, SockMonkeyGirl.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that you are unable to use your internet based applications when connected to the Comcast network only.  I would recommend making sure that this Comcast network settings are updated to the recommend as outlined below.  Also make sure that all firewalls are disabled as well.

Snow Leopard, Mac OS X 10.6, is not iCloud compatible.  You need to upgrade to Lion, Mac OS X 10.7, via a download from the app store...$29 (US), provided you had at least 10.6.6.  You can upgrade to 10.6.8 for free as part of the software updated function, then go to the app store and purchase the Lion download.
When you do that, before installing Lion, make a copy of the Lion Installer from the Applications folder where it downloads to some other location, such as your Documents folder, so you have a backup copy.
For Lion you must have at least an Intel Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7, or Xenon processor, 2 GB memory though 4 GB is better and 7 GB free space on the hard drive.
As part of 10.7.2 you end up with the iCloud connection.

  • I have a Windows XP Pro PC and Can't Get it to Connect to an Airport Wireless network

Hi, I'm kinda at my wit's end here. I have a desktop PC using Windows XP Pro operating system. To get wireless, I'm using an external wireless d-link USB.
It works fine on my home network. I took the desktop to my local repair guy. There's nothing wrong with it that would prevent network connections. And, natch, the wireless network is working well on everyone else's computers there, including my MacBook. But what happens with this PC is that it sees the network and then tries to connect and doesn't connect ever.
    Any ideas?

Googling around, I decided to try changing the password to 13 characters on the airport. That did the trick.

  • Connecting via both Airport & Ethernet?

I have a Mini (10.6.2) and a MBP (10.6.2) which are connected to a Airport Extreme for Internet connectivity. However, file transfers and screen share is slow (the Mini only has 802.11G, no N). So I was thinking I could connect these 2 machines via Ethernet only for file transfers and screen sharing.
Can these machines connect to each other via ethernet (to be used only for files sharing & screen sharing with each other) while being connected to the Internet via the Extreme? There must be some routing issues. Would this require some manual setup of the ethernet IPs (for example, using non-routable addresses like 172.16.0.1 & 172.16.0.2)? But then how to route everything to the Extreme (for Internet access) with the exception of 172.16.0.x for files and screen sharing?
    Thanks in advance,
    Charles

I think you are saying the Mini and MBP are close to each other. The simple answer is yes, you can do exactly what you want. Set static addresses for the wired network to be their own range (e.g. 192.168.1.x for the wireless and 192.168.2.x for the Ethernet (mask of 255.255.255.0 for both). The OSX networking should be smart enough to know which route is best for each situation - e.g. Internet will only work over the wireless, and the shortest route between the Mini and MBP is between each other over the Ethernet. You should be able to use a crossover cable between them and get the best speed that way.
If it gets confused, there are a number of ways around it. You can get into the routing tables, but that's the tricky way. You could set up the AE to specifically not allow the computers to see each other, and they will be forced to use the wire.
The simplest way to go with this setup is to use IP addresses when connecting to each other - then you're telling it which way to go. i.e. if you're trying to connect to 192.168.2.2 from 192.168.2.1, then the only way it can do it is to talk over that network. You could also manually set up a hosts file with a unique name/alias for each other (then use those names to talk to each other).
In my old Windows days, I'd get around all of this by setting the Internet link to use TCP/IP, and the link between PCs to use Netbui (and turn off Netbios on the TCP/IP link). You might be able to do something similar by using Appletalk on the wired link (not sure, as I don't know if you can still use that on 10.6.2).
If all else fails, use one as a gateway to the other. Turn off wireless completely on the Mini. Share your Internet connection on the MBP. That way all traffic from the Mini would have to pass through the MBP over the wire, so it would effectively be the only link between them, and all local traffic would be forced over Ethernet. The MBP would have to be on all the time though, or the Mini wouldn't get access to the Internet.
There's probably lots more ways to do it, but yes, you can do exactly what you are asking. It's all just packets being routed around.

  • MACPRO WIRELESS CONNECTIVITY TO COMCAST, MACPRO WIRELESS CONNECTIVITY TO COMCAST

I am having a minor problem with wireless conection between comast infinity and macpro in that the conection will be timed out after a periiod of time. My ethernet connection works fine. Comast adivsed me that this is a known problem but they told me to contact apple support for help. I contacted apple they never heard of this problem so they advised me to contact comcast. I am in the middle here does any one know of this issue and is there certain settings on need to change on the Macpro to prevent me from being timed out from connection iwth comcast. Also i have a much slower back up wireless internet access with AT&T that i do not what to affect if i do any changes to the wireless network connectivity. Thanks John

1: Make sure your Software update is current.
    2: Update your router's firmware
Run all the maintainence and cleaning aspects of OnyX for your OS version and reboot.

Visit Apple.com and test how fast the site loads, then test this site
    http://www.ipv6.apple.com
If the last site loads slow you have a ipv6 issue.
They are swtiching over and both the operating system, routers/airport and ISP's are making changes so there might be some issues until your all updated.

  • Connect via ethernet but wireless for internet

I don't know why, but my apple tv seems to have forgotten how to connect to the internet and I can't make it remember, lol. Now I will stress, this used to work, and I don't know why it suddenly doesn't work anymore...
Basically I have wireless set up at home for the internet. However, I connect to my apple tv via direct ethernet cable between my imac and the apple tv itself. I have set up internet sharing in preferences to share my airport connection over ethernet, which my apple tv used to be able to use ok to connect to the itunes store/you tube, etc. However, it now can't. I had some trouble with it this morning where it wouldn't connect to the ethernet network at all, although it now does. However, it no longer uses the iMac as it's router and I can't seem to figure out why. Can anyone help?
    Thanks!

  • Can't connect via cable, but wireless works.

iMac, Leopard, iTunes, all current. AppleTV only shows up when I disconnect my ethernet cable. At that point my Airport base station (older version) makes the connection. If I turn Airport off in the OS, still no go. I've tried multiple cables too. I've also tried my Macbook pro.
I obviously want the wired connection for greater speed and since the ATV is in the room right next to the computer it's no big deal to run a cable. I swear I had this all running correctly under Tiger, but now I'm starting to wonder if it had been wireless all along and I never realized it.
    Help!

    Hi,
I had the same problem and this worked for me -
Go to System Preferences/Sharing and enable "Internet Sharing" where it says "Share your connection from" choose Airport and where it says "To computers using" select the ethernet port that you've connected the cable from the ATV to on your computer.
Go to System Preferences/Security/Firewall and if you've selected the last option "Set access for specific services and applications" add iTunes to the list by clicking the + and navigating to it.

  • Lost internet connection via time capsule, wireless signal grayed out. What may be wrong?

My mac mini started intermitently losing connection to the Internet. Checked settings, look OK, no changes. Wireless signal icon in the menu bar is sometimes full sometimes grayed out (no connection at all). Other computers connecting via the same Time Capsule without any problems. I've serched forums and tried some suggestions to no avail. My mini is core 2 duo 1.83 GHz, 2GB RAM. Snow Leopard up to date.
    What may be wrong?

Well, I reset the TimeCapsule to factory settings and configured it again for my home network and all works like a charm again.

  • 10.6.1: Can't resolve FQDN when connecting via WLAN / Airport Base Station

    Hi everybody,
after hours of work and having read many helpful topics in this forum (and other) I've successfully setup a Single Signon Environment for my home office. It's a dual core macmini server running 10.6.1 and only mac clients.
The server is connected via switch to my airport extreme base station. This airport station uses PPPoE to connect to my ISP and it has the DHCP service running, handing out the clients' IP addresses. The server and the switch have all static IP addresses.
    My issue is the following:
Whenever I connect via wifi or vpn using my MBP, I am not able to "bind" to the server (via system preferences : users : login setting) using the FQDN. The error is "can't resolve address. -2200" Instead it only finds myserver.local - and then I am able to set up my wifi connected client.
However, when I set up the client with the .local address I am unable to get a kerberos ticket for my users. The ticket viewer says, that it can't resolve the address for myserver.mycompany.private
I was able to get afp or ical to work on my vpn or airport connected clients when I used the server's IP address instead of a domain name - but only with kerberos turned off and with other problems.
I've heard that if everything is configured right, the server should show up in every clients' sidebar with its FQDN and NOT the bonjour name. Right now it shows only the bonjour name - even on the clients connected via Ethernet.
The other strange thing is that when I log into my client system I still have to authenticate with ticket viewer in order to get my kerberos ticket. Usually Single Signon should work with the login window, right?
I really don't know what else to do. I double checked my DNS settings and everything seems ok. I entered the FQDN of the my server in the airport stations' DHCP settings as "LDAP server" - nothing changed...
Do I need to use the server's DHCP service instead of the airport station's DHCP? And if I do this, how to I turn off airport's DHCP? It does not seem to be possible when connected via PPPoE to my ISP.
I am unsure what to do in order to get things to work. Anybody out there who can help?

Hi Davidh and thanks for posting!
I had 3 DNS entries in my client's network settings - one was the server and the other 2 were from my ISP. Removing the ISP's DNS entries and keeping the server DNS IP solved my kerberos issue. Wow!
I'd never thought that it won't work with more than the server given as DNS entries. I'll need to check this with my iPhone later, because I had a similar issue with that device yesterday when trying to connect via VPN.
    Thanks very much!
    Still one question:
The sidebar of my clients still don't show the server's FQDN - but only its bonjour name. Is this right? I read in another forum that the client's sidebar should show the FQDN if everything is configured right.
