Connecting webserver to oracle database 10g didn't work
Hi,
I have webserver installed on SuSE Linux ES 10. I want to connect webserver to my oracle database 10 which is installed on SuSE Linux ES 9. I have download the instant client. But there is no success in connecting webserver to database. Can anyone in this forum give me step by step help for configuring this?
Regards
Trusha
Check the documents at http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/php/index.html
Your webserver machine will need to have some Oracle libraries installed, e.g. the Oracle Instant Client. There are steps given in a few places including the Underground PHP & Oracle Manual.
You might need to adjust some paths that differ on Suse.

Problem when connecting locally to Oracle Database 10g from Java code
Good afternoon,
I try to connect to my local Oracle 10g from JAVA code. Could somebody tells me what are the 'values' to enter in place of 'value1, value2, value3' in the following:
final String connectionURLThin = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@value1:value2:value3";
I tried to put my 'user' and 'pw' credentials I used when connecting with SQL*PLUS:
value1=my_user_name
value2=my_pw
value3=my_schema
but it doest work. Besides where could have I to put the 'WORKSPACE" name?
Thanks for any help.

How to connect to remote Oracle Database 10g Express Edition
Hi,
I am very new to Oracle. I have created a successful application using OCCI call (createConnection()) to connect to local (resided on the same PC) Oracle Database. Now I would like to move the application to resided on a different PC and try to connect to Oracle Database. Can anyone points me to the right direction in doing this?
Thanks in advance.Can anyone points me to the right direction in doing this? Well at least for me, self study on OCCI documentation is pointing to the right direction ;-)
OCCI requires only four shared libraries (or dynamic link libraries, as they are called on some operating systems) to be loaded by the dynamic loader of the operating system.
Installing Instant Client resolve this.
Cheers! -

Please let me know What should i do i want to start my practice sessions on sqldeveloper
I am new in Oracle pl/sql development
Please guide me on this.........................SQLDeveloper 3.0 production is supplied with the thin driver 11.2.0.2
it needs 11.2.0.2 version to use thick which has a few additional features over thin.
To avoid confusion with other Oracle software you can set the ORACLE_HOME in the session you start sqldeveloper in as described below:
The version mismatch is often because SQLDeveloper is trying to use the 'thick' driver and 11.2.0.2 thick is not available,
try
thin by:
1/(uncheck Tools->preferences->Datababae->advanced->use OCI/thick driver, and
2/If necessary, set ORACLE_HOME for your cmd.exe session where sqldev is started from to where sqldeveloper is where %ORACLE_HOME%\jdbc\lib exists, (so SQLDeveloper does not try your existing ORACLE_HOME) and
3/If using connection type TNS, use Connection Type TNS -> Network Alias.
4/You may need to set Tools->preferences->Datababase->advanced->Tnsname directory to the directory containing tnsnames.ora

Problem about using Oracle Form 6i to connect Oracle Database 10g express.
Sorry to interrupt all of you.
I have encountered a problem about using Oracle Form 6i to connect Oracle Database 10g express.
As I would like to
I use Oracle Net8 Easy Config to create a connection.
According to "tnsnames.ora", the paramater of connection is as follows;
XE =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 127.0.0.1)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA = (SID = XE))
Unfortunately, when I use Oracle Net8 Easy Config to test the connection, an error message is prompted as follows:
Connecting....
The test did not succeed.
ORA-03106: fatal two-task communication protocol error
There may be an error in the fields entered
or the server may not be ready for a connection.
You can check the server and retry, or continue.
After I google it, I still have no idea how to solve the problem. I would like to ask, could anyone mind providing some hints or solution to address the issues.
Thanks for your assistance in advance.I don't believe the Net8 Easy Config (NEC) will create a compatible entry in the tnsnames.ora. I have Forms 6i running successfully against a 10g Express database, but I did not use the NEC - I created the entry myself. Here is the entry I use:
XE=
(DESCRIPTION=
(ADDRESS=
(PROTOCOL=TCP)
(HOST=<<servername or IP address>>)
(PORT=1521)
(CONNECT_DATA=
(SERVER=dedicated)
(SERVICE_NAME=XE)
)Hope this helps,
Craig B-)

6) I was check registry "hkey_local_machine\software\oracle" and delete key "local" (walue was set to connection to 8i database).
7) I was checking status of Listener from XE (after shutdown).

Error connecting via PHP to Oracle Database 10g XE in Arch Linux with XAMPP
I get this error whenever I try to connect through PHP to my locally hosted Oracle Database 10g Express Edition
Warning: oci_connect() [function.oci-connect]: OCIEnvNlsCreate() failed. There is something wrong with your system - please check that LD_LIBRARY_PATH includes the directory with Oracle Instant Client libraries in <filename>.php on line 10
What can I do?Not sure what to offer for XAMP with php, perhaps it needs a configure pointing OCI8 to your ORACLE_HOME, as well as setting the oracle environment and PATH adjustment in the Apache start script.
Somewhere under /etc there should be an init.d or perhaps rc.d directory with maybe an apache2 script that gets called at system boot or run level change. It will take editing that shell script and adding something like:
export ORACLE_HOME=/usr/....
export PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/bin:$PATH
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATHAnd restarting apache ... $ [sudo] {RC path}/apache2 restart or $ ...apache2 stop followed by an $ ...apache2 start all depending on how the boot/inits are setup on the box.
And in your $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/tnsnames.ora adding a tnsalias won't hurt (as long as the whitespace as well as matching parenthesis are all in order)

Creating a new database in Oracle Database 10g...
I have downloaded a copy of Oracle Database 10g Express Edition from Oracle's website. I am using Windows XP. I am trying to create an Oracle database that I can connect to from Access 2003 via ODBC.
1. How do I create a new database? I can see options to create tables, views, etc. but not a database.
2. I have created a System DSN connection in the ODBC Data Source Administrator for the Oracle ODBC driver. Once I create a database in Oracle, how do I actually establish a connection to it from Access? The ODBC code to connect is there, but when I run it, I get an error.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.1. How do I create a new database? I can see options to create tables, views, etc. but not a database.If you can see those options then you are already connected to the database. You probably want to create a user, not a database (are you by chance coming from SQL Server?)
driver={OracleDriver};Dbq=TESTDBQ;Uid=Administrator;Pwd=;You would replace "Administrator" with the name of the user you created in the database. -
How to install Oracle Label Security in Oracle Database 10g EE

Sorry about my English.Options is to connect to Oracle Policy Manager or use Oracle Internet Directory (OID)to administer Oracle Label Security.

Problem upgrading Apex 2.1 to 3.2.1 in Oracle Database 10g Express Edition
G'Day Apex gurus,
I installed Oracle Database 10g Express edition in my Windows XP PC which comes with Apex 2.1 with no problems. Then I wanted to upgrade Apex 2.1 to 3.2.1 (Currently Apex download in OTN) following the document below:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/html/3.1_and_xe.html
I went to the steps:
@apexins SYSAUX SYSAUX TEMP /i/
Then to change the password for the admin account run apxchpwd.sql and when prompted enter a password for the ADMIN account.
@apxchpwd
with not problems
Then I connected to SQL*Plus as SYS by:
sqlplus /nolog
CONNECT SYS as SYSDBA
Enter password: xxxxxxxxxxx
but when I tried to run:
@APEX_HOME/apex/apxldimg.sql APEX_HOME
where APEX_HOME is Apex3.2.1 in my case

I appreciate any help
Kind regards
CarlosMy database version is 10.2.0.1.0 Oracle express.
Operating system is Windows Vista.
I started installing using the following commands.
@ C:\temp\apex\apexins.sql
it prompts me for the values of sysaux sysaux temp and c:\temp\apex\images\
If I supply the value for images the sqlplus window closes after scrolling a lot of info.
Enroute it also prompts me for a value for 9:
I don't know what the input shall be.
Then it again stops at enter value for version:
I used 3.2.1.0
The window scrols a while and closes.
later I changed the password and ran the command.
@c:\temp\apex\apxldimg.sql c:\temp
but no success with installation.
the output is as following.
