Connecting wireless to iMac

At startup my iMac only shows a keyboard or mouse what is wrong?

It is expecting to find a bluetooth keyboard and mouse. Do you have those? Do they have good fresh batteries and are they turned on?

Problem connecting wirelessly from iMac to NETGEAR router, get invalid password message with WPA and WPA-2 encryption in place but if I remove them, so no security, can connect without a problem. Help!!

Thank you for your suggestion but I have already had a couple of phone sessions with NETGEAR support and they don't see any problems with the router settings etc. They referred me to Apple support, who helped me discover that it is possible to communicate with the router but only if I turn off the encryption/security software, which I don't want to do. The frustrating thing is that I can connect wirelessly from a laptop running Windows 7 and two Anroid smart phones, with WPA-2 in place, without a problem. Do you have any other ideas?

  • Hp laserjet Pro 200 M276nw won't consistently connect wirelessly with iMac

I'm on my second brand new hp laserjet Pro 200 M276nw in 3 days, it will not consistently connect wirelessly with my newly purchased (8days old) Apple refurbished 27" iMac on OSX 10.9, i7 chip & Fusion Drive.  The hp laserjet will sometimes connect wirelessly immediately after clicking "print" on the iMac, but about half the time it says "printer not connected" & takes 2-4 minutes (or longer) before the devices do connect. I've called hp support many times, they're reset various things via remote takeover of my iMac, the printer will work for a few of minutes but then the same problem returns. AppleCare made sure I have the
correct Airprint driver installed & also checked my settings, but says they don't know why this is occurring. I've also verified that our newer (6 months old) AT&T router is functioning correctly.
My older hp laserjet (CM1312nfi MFP) has worked flawlessly since 2009 via USB connection with my old iMac (still on Snow Leopard), I assumed it would continue with the new one, but there is no software update for Mavericks & the scanning feature won't operate on the new iMac. Hp says it is a discontinued model. The new hp laserjet is a successor model to the older one, they are both very similar except for the new wireless feature.
I can print fast & wirelessly from the new iMac via a different new hp inkjet printer (8600 series) here in the house. This inkjet printer is less than a month old, I installed it myself for a Windows laptop here, it has never malfunctioned.  Unfortunately it's upstairs & I do not like inkjet print quality, I need a good laserjet here in my office downstairs next to my iMac.

    HI there
Did you manage to sort this issue out - as I have exactly the same problem.
Lots of similarities as I also have an inkjet 8600 which works via USB and wirelessly no problems at all!
I always  buy HP printers as they are usually easy to set up - but this one is making me tear my hair out!
I've even upgraded to Yosemite and downloaded the new drivers from HP - no success.  The printer will print one page and then become unavailable.
I can print via USB or wireless direct - but not just via my wireless network which is what I want to do!
No responses posted - so assume no one has a fix.
    aaaargh!!!

  • Printer not connecting wirelessly with iMac

MacBook Pro working on OSX 10.4.11 wirelessly with Epson PX710W. Tried to add iMac on OS X10.5.8 but failure to connect on every attempt after numerous sessions with Epson Support. Have repaired permissions having previously run verification of HD which was reported OK. Reset printer system and reinstalled drivers without success. Still receiving message job stopped on both computers. On setting up the sample page to print, when selecting the PX 710W printer or the other printer option, there is a quick flash. Then the MacBook will not print due to 'communication error'. But if the PX710W is turned off and then on again, the MacBook will print.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Switch router to channel 1. Disable and remove all security on the router. Now try to connect to your unsecured SSID. Are you successful?

  • Trying to connect wirelessly with IMac G5

I have an IMac G5 which I would like to connect to a wireless network which I have set up with a BT Home Hub. The G5 does not have an airport card, but I have just bought a second hand Airport extreme (old version) base station through e-bay. I am really struggling to set it up. Do I need an Airport card or can I connect it in some other way. Not sure what cables etc etc I need. Many thanks

Thanks but isn't that basically what I've bought from ebay - an Airport Extreme base station, albeit an old one?
Sorry, but no. The AEBS does not support the ProxySTA feature of the newer 802.11n AirPort Express (AX).
    Are there any alternatives?
Other than the AX, other vendors, like Linksys, offers Ethernet bridges.
Is it really difficult to set up the proxy link you mention?
To activate ProxySTA, you must set up the Express to join a wireless network and then enable the Allow Ethernet Clients setting; both settings are located in the Wireless tab of AirPort Utility. The feature should work with any wireless network: a, b, g, or n; and 5GHz or 2.4GHz. (Note that the Express, which ships with firmware 7.3, must also be updated to firmware 7.3.1 for this feature to appear.)

  • Connecting wirelessly to Imac running Windows XP for internet sharing

    Hello,
At present I don't own a router, however when I directly connect my Imac to my cable modem (via ethernet cable) I am able to share the internet connection with other PCs via the wireless port in my Imac (while running Leopard)
Occastionally I run Windows XP using bootcamp and would like to be able to do the same thing. I know how to turn on internet connection sharing in Windows, but I can't get computers to connect to my computer as I can when running Leopard. Is it possible to do this?
    Thanks

What type of radio mode and encryption are you using?
Are you using 802.11n 5GHz mode for example?

My wireless keyboard no longer connects with my iMac since changing the batteries. It now shows as not connected, not paired and not configured. A friend recently connected his iPad to the iMac and since then the problem started. Any ideas to resolve this?

a friend told me that he wants my os x cd for my macbook pro to upgrade his imac.
The discs that come with your Mac are "machine specfic" and cannot be used on another Mac.

  • Connect wireless keyboard to imac

How do I get my wireless keyboard to connect to my iMac?  Both keyboard and mouse work fine with my MacBook Pro, but only the mouse is working with the IMAC?

Is the iMac a model built before the year 2006?
...Does your iMac run vintage Mac OS 9.2, pre-OS X?
{If not, you posted a question in a vintage PPC non-intel
discussion area that covers older architecture Macintosh
    which cannot run an OS X later than Leopard 10.5.8.}
    •Bluetooth - Apple Support:
    http://www.apple.com/support/bluetooth/
You'd have to pair the BT keyboard with iMac; they
can only be paired to one device/computer at a time.
Hopefully any additional answers will be found
in the Bluetooth Support site linked above.

  • Connect PCs to iMac wirelessly - novice here

Can you point me to information on how to setup a home network using my connected (via cable provider) iMac? I want 2 Windows PCs with wireless cards to connect to my iMac (via the built-in airport extreme in the iMac) and would like to do so with both firewall and wireless security enabled.
My first question is will the iMac do this without a separate wireless router (e.g. Linksys)?
My second question is where can I find the steps showing me how - I admittedly get lost in network names, WEP keys, etc.

This site is awsome in walking you through a network setup. http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/3020.html

  • Will my iMac connect wireless with my ISP modem?

Do I need to specifically have an airport express or airport extreme base station to connect wirelessly to the internet? I have a modem that was supplied by my ISP. When I try to connect to the internet, the serial number for the modem appears, however, when I enter my WEP password, I get an error message that "there was an error joining the airport network." I also have an ibook G4, and have no problem connecting with it.
The tech's at my ISP aren't much help, as they're not mac-friendly.
    Any ideas?

Do I need to specifically have an airport express or airport extreme base station to connect wirelessly to the internet?
No. If your iMac G5 has built-in wireless, or has the AirPort Extreme card installed, it can join any 802.11b or 802.11g compatible wireless network.

  • MacoBook Pro connecting wirelessly via Personal Web Sharing from iMac G5

Subject line says it all... more specifically my problem is that some things seem "blocked" on the MBP when i'm connecting wirelessly via my iMac network, but then are 100% functional when I use other wireless networks.
    examples:
    • gmail via Mail.app [mailbox always has the ! symbol and says it's timed out]
    • playing app-based online games, certian functions will not work
    • using FTP software, it won't connect
Maybe this an issue I can fix with port forwarding, if so how do I go about doing this? I was told my iMac is technically acting as a router, but I don't have a lot of experience with this type of networking. Thanks!
    iMac G5 2GHz • 15" MacBook Pro 2GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Personal Web Sharing can be a bit tricky and yes, it's because of the firewall on the Mac that's sharing its connection.
The actual firewall software in the Mac is completely configurable, but the friendly user interface doesn't support the more sophisticated configurations. Fancier setups would require the use of commandline scripts run from Terminal.
You'll save yourself a lot of headaches if you buy a wireless base station, and forget about using Personal Web Sharing. A $60 Linksys will do the job nicely.

My iMac (running Lion 10.7.3) is connected wirelessly to a Laserjet 2550.  This has operated fine for a long time, but now the printer cannot be found when Time Machine back ups are taking place - Bonjour does not show any devices being available when Time Machine is running.  Does anyone know the cause & remedy please?

Your points match mine pretty well, though here are some thoughts:
    1. I thought about this theory myself this morning (iTunes possibly causing more issues), but I haven't been able to verify it.
    2. When I set up a new user it seemed better for a while, but the issue croppped back up. Yesterday I fully wiped the machine and reinstalled from scratch. I did not reimport my user from TimeMachine, but the problem has come back. My thinking was that I might have some really old software or prefs hanging around causing the issue. No dice.
    3. This is my current theory of the issue, so my next step will be to pull the RAM from Crucial and see how the system behves. IF that doesn't eliminate the problem, I'll pull the factory installed RAM and replace it with the 3rd party RAM. The odd thing is how many people seem to have similar issues - I know two personally, and have seen several posts on forums. I think the most common point for this happening was the 10.7.2 update, which would point to software as the culprit.
    4. That matches my experience.
My hope is that this will be repaired in the forthcoming 10.7.3 release (current production version is 10.7.2), but otuside of what I noted above, I'm at a loss.

  • Why won't my iPad connect wirelessly to all my iMac apps on Lion?

So I've been having an issue that I can't seems to find the answers to in any forums or in any articles online. I've got both an iPad 2 and a brand new iMac with lion 10.7.3.
Everything is up to date, but here's the problem, I can access some things like VNC, iTunes remote, and accessing the iTunes Library via sharing, however, I can't seem to access, any MIDI controls in my Audio MIDI Setup, nor can I access my docs to go.
I've tried remedying all the issues that have come up via the iMac wifi issues that have plagued a lot of other iMacs. The iPad occasionally appears in the MIDI window, but when I attempt to connect, it tells me it can't and to check the address again.
I'm able to still connect with all of the applications with my old MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard, but haven't managed to make to correct connections with my iMac.
Any ideas? It's really starting to frustrate me.
    Thanks for any help!

  • Can not connect wireless through Bootcamp Windows XP to Timecapsule?

    Any help would be appreciated.
I recently purchased an iMac with Leopard (10.5.2). Today, I used Bootcamp to install Windows XP with SP2. I created a FAT partition of 32 gigs and followed all of the steps (including installing drivers off of MAC OS installation disk 1 while on initial XP boot up).
My wireless network is on a Timecapsule and is "WPA Personal secured". The Mac OS detects the network and connects instantly, my work laptop PC detects the network and connects instantly. However, the newly installed XP detects the wireless network but will not connect. When I try to connect to the network, I receive an error message that basically states "unable to connect...". I do not even get to a screen that asks for me to enter a network key or password. When I try to connect to two other networks in the neighborhood, I at least get the network key screen.
I have gone into the Windows network tools and have tried to manually configure the connection, but I still get the same problem. I thought maybe I had "WPA2 Personal" enabled as the security setting for the network (XP does not support WPA2 out of the box) , but I have it as "WPA Personal".
Can't figure it out. I am new to Macs (about 1 month). The reason I switched was because I could run both Leopard and XP.
    Best regards,

    Solved my own problem.
    FYI
Even though my security settings on my Timecapsule are listed as "WPA Personal", my work PC Laptop kept detecting as "WPA2 Personal". I even removed all security settings from the Timecapsule and my laptop still detected as "WPA2".
I know that XP does not support WPA2 out of the box.
I hooked directly into the Timecapsule via an ethernet cable while in Windows environment. Thankfully, I was able to access the internet. I went to Microsoft and did a search for WPA2 patches for XP. Found one that allows XP wireless connection to WPA2. I installed the patch and was able to detect and connect wirelessly to Timecapsule from XP.
After two days, I have come to the firm believe (don't know the technical reasons why) that Timecapsule is a WPA2 device and that the XP patch is the only way to create initial connectivity. It is sort of ironic that although I wanted to connect wirelessly, I had to first connect via an ethernet hard connection.
Solve one problem, left with another. I have a Epson all-in-one scanner, printer, copier hooked to the Timecapsule. My iMac picks it up fine wirelessly but I am getting nothing on XP. Hopefully it is a simple driver download issue.
