Connecting wirelessly to access windows shared network printer

Hi there:
New macbook computer. HP 2605dn laser printer. I've connected to the windows network using lpd and other protocols, and everything seems to be going smoothly. The printer shows up on my screen. I push print. It says it's printing. But nothing happens at the printer. The message I receive is that the printer is busy and it will retry in 30 seconds. Of course, nothing happens. I've installed the hp suite directly into my machine, all 500 mb of it. Nothing. Not sure what to do. Try resetting the server? I can ask our IT guy (not an expert by any means) to reset it in the morning and try that. Anything else? Thanks!

Problem solved. IP address was incorrect. I thought I had tried that before. Oh, well. Perhaps a combination of new downloaded driver and correct IP address. The good news is that it's quite easy to log onto a windows network with your mac and print from the windows printer. As long as you dot your i's and cross your t's.

• Accessing windows shared printer via mac over wireless

So i want to share my deskjet 812c thats attached to my pc and be able to print via my MBP over wireless. I simply shared teh printer in windows, but have yet been able to figure it out, or to get it to work. It seems that the MBP will not see the printer, so any advice or any walk throughs would be appreciated.
Thanks

To connect to a shared Windows printer, open the Printer Setup Utility and click More Printers. For the new window, click the drop-down and select Windows Printing and then Network Neighborhood. The workgroup name that has been configured in the Windows computer should display. Double-click the workgroup name and then select the computer name from the new list. A new window will appear asking you to enter your Windows account name and password. Enter these details and click OK. Select the printer share name from the list and then for the Printer Model, browse to HP and then to the Deskjet 812C. If this model is not listed, download a copy of Gutenprint 5.0.0 for Mac OS X (http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php3). This has the 812C which you can use for network printing. With the 812C selected, click Add.
Note that if you are not prompted to authenticate to the Windows computer, then this can impact your ability to connect to shares, especially on XP SP2. You will need to either enable the Guest account or create an account on the Windows computer for the MacBook.

• Internet connection sharing, network printer: not at the same time

Here's the setup:
Mac+airport connected to wireless router connected via ethernet to network printer on wireless network "One".
I want to share my internet connection via airport/"One" with my iPod Touch.
I set up internet sharing, using "One" as the acceptable route. iPod works. Network printer doesn't.
If I turn off sharing, network printer works, iPod (obviously) doesn't.
How do I set it up so I can 1) print to my network AND b) share my internet connection with the iPod?

• Anyone know why Adobe X & Adobe XI Crashes my shared network printer driver when printing a PDF

Anyone know why Adobe X & Adobe XI Crashes my shared network printer driver when printing on a domain, this only happens when I print a PDF.
I then have to restart the print spooler to get my printouts sent to the printer. I am using a Windows 7 32 & 64 bit environment on a domain. Users who aren't on the domain experience no issues and their printer drivers remain online and not grayed out.
When I print a PDF using Foxit Reader or Nitro PDF then all works fine, the moment I open a PDF using Adobe Reader X or XI then the shared network printer driver bombs out and I am back restarting the print spooler. If we roll back to Adobe 9 then we dont have any issues.
When you create a local printer driver all works fine, the problem is we don't encourage local printer drivers due to security.
We use Ricoh printer drivers, the MPC5501 PCL5C, driver version 1.2.0.0 with PDK version 12.65. We have also tried the PCL6 printer driver and Universal printer driver. All give the same result. The printer uses Winiprint Print processor using RAW as the default data type.
We have contacted Adobe Global Support who advised that they cannot assist with this query as this is on a Domain environment and we have to contact our IT Department.
We would really appreciate some professional help here to get a fix for this issue in order to address potential future occurance's

• How to connect my mac book pro to network printer Canon IR 2010f?

I'm desperate to know how to connect my Mac book Pro to network printer Canon IR 2010f. This printer has an independent system, therefore, no need a PC to be on, in order to print. But this printer is a network printer. Help me please.

The Canon UFR2 v2.20 driver for Mac OS X does not list the iR2010F as a supported model. The same is so for the Canon PS driver so I therefore believe this model is PCL5e only.
What you should do is open Safari and type the IP address of the iR2010F. This will connect to the internal web page of the copier and from the provided pages you should be able to see what printer languages are supported.
If it only lists PCL then you will be able to print to this copier using the Generic PCL driver included with 10.6.
So if you open Print & Fax, click + to add and then select IP > LPD for the protocol you can then enter the IP address of the iR2010F and leave the queue name blank. For the name you can change that to iR1020F and for the Print Using, select Generic PCL Laser Printer.
One note with regards to this driver. It is defaulted to 300dpi so you will need to open the print dialog when you do print and change the resolution to 600dpi to get better print quality.

• Firefox crashes on Windows 7 when printing to a Windows 7 network printer.

On Windows 7 running Firefox 3.6.10, I cannot print to a Windows 7 network printer. Firefox crashes every time as soon as I hit print.
However, the situation is very specific. I can print from Windows XP using Firefox 3.6.10 to a Windows 7 network printer. I can also print from Windows 7 using Firefox 3.6.10 to a Windows XP network printer. The only situation that doesn't work is using Firefox and printing from Windows 7 machine to Windows 7 machine.
Firefox is also the only program that does not print. I can print using Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, MS Word, MS Excel, and every other application just fine. Firefox is exclusive in that it is the only program that crashes and refuses to print. The drivers that are being used a PostScript drivers.
I have tried multiple versions of Firefox from older ones to the Firefox 4 beta and the program crashes every time.
Again, the only time it crashes is printing from a Windows 7 client computer to a Windows 7 network printer. Printing from XP to Windows 7 and from Windows 7 to XP works.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. The only program I've noticed the problem with is Firefox, so I'm assuming it's a problem at the application level.

Are you using DHCP to allocate IP addresses via your router or Static IP allocation?
You may have an IP conflict in your network.
Check on your various network configuration parameters in your iPad, PC and WiFi router.

• Accessing Windows shared printer, no GIMP driver for Canon iP3000. Options?

I checked a few pages worth of threads but couldn't find a solution to my problem.
Finally accessing my Windows shared printer. I have a Canon iP3000 and it doesn't print when I use the generic driver. I tried selecting the GIMP "Canon BJC 3000" driver but the prints end up shrunken to about a quarter of the paper size (8.5"x11"), my paper was set up and configured correctly. Any options for correcting this?
I had planned on connecting the printer to my MacBook Pro but all the support I could find was for sharing from Windows, so if anyone knows a good resource for such a setup, that'd help too.

There are new versions of Gimp-Print, now called Gutenprint, coming out on a regular basis. Check if the latest has your model:

• Can not connect wireless through Bootcamp Windows XP to Timecapsule?

Any help would be appreciated.
I recently purchased an iMac with Leopard (10.5.2). Today, I used Bootcamp to install Windows XP with SP2. I created a FAT partition of 32 gigs and followed all of the steps (including installing drivers off of MAC OS installation disk 1 while on initial XP boot up).
My wireless network is on a Timecapsule and is "WPA Personal secured". The Mac OS detects the network and connects instantly, my work laptop PC detects the network and connects instantly. However, the newly installed XP detects the wireless network but will not connect. When I try to connect to the network, I receive an error message that basically states "unable to connect...". I do not even get to a screen that asks for me to enter a network key or password. When I try to connect to two other networks in the neighborhood, I at least get the network key screen.
I have gone into the Windows network tools and have tried to manually configure the connection, but I still get the same problem. I thought maybe I had "WPA2 Personal" enabled as the security setting for the network (XP does not support WPA2 out of the box) , but I have it as "WPA Personal".
Can't figure it out. I am new to Macs (about 1 month). The reason I switched was because I could run both Leopard and XP.
Best regards,

Solved my own problem.
FYI
Even though my security settings on my Timecapsule are listed as "WPA Personal", my work PC Laptop kept detecting as "WPA2 Personal". I even removed all security settings from the Timecapsule and my laptop still detected as "WPA2".
I know that XP does not support WPA2 out of the box.
I hooked directly into the Timecapsule via an ethernet cable while in Windows environment. Thankfully, I was able to access the internet. I went to Microsoft and did a search for WPA2 patches for XP. Found one that allows XP wireless connection to WPA2. I installed the patch and was able to detect and connect wirelessly to Timecapsule from XP.
After two days, I have come to the firm believe (don't know the technical reasons why) that Timecapsule is a WPA2 device and that the XP patch is the only way to create initial connectivity. It is sort of ironic that although I wanted to connect wirelessly, I had to first connect via an ethernet hard connection.
Solve one problem, left with another. I have a Epson all-in-one scanner, printer, copier hooked to the Timecapsule. My iMac picks it up fine wirelessly but I am getting nothing on XP. Hopefully it is a simple driver download issue.

• Need help printing to a Windows 7 networked printer

Hi,
I have a new MacBook Air and I am trying to get it to print wirelessly to a network printer that is connected to a Windows 7 computer. I am at the point where the printer (an HP laserjet) shows up as the default printer, as it should, but when I try to print I get a "hold for authorization" message.
I have found several explanations online for sharing a windows 7 printer and have activated the LPD Print Service on the Windows 7 computer, but the advice then says to go to the Mac and open the Print & Fax system preference. There is no such thing on the Mountain Lion operating system, and the Print & Scan preference dows not have the features that allow me to get to the advanced button and select LDB/LPR Host or Printer as the type.
Does anyone know how to share a Windows 7 printer on MacBook Air Mountain Lion? Or is there someone who can tell me how to get to the toolbar described in the old Print & Fax system preference?

With Print & Scan open, click the plus button under the Printers column to see the Add window. This window has the Default, IP and Windows icons. Click the IP icon, enter the IP address of the Win7 box, change the protocol to LPD and enter the shared name for the printer in the Queue field. Then select the driver and click Add to complete.

• Can't access Windows 7 network nor homegroup via router or ad-hoc

I have a really annoying problem. I have 2 clean computers. They were formatted and Win 7 ultimate was installed on both computers. They have a PCI wireless card (D-Link DWA 525). Their hardware is identical, same motherboard, etc, beside the "server"
is pentium 4 and the "client" is celeron.
We have 2 routers and 1 modem. The first router, Airport Extreme, act as DHCP server, and provides the wireless network. The second router (TimeCapsule), connected thought ethernet to the first router, extends the wireless network (act as a bridge). I can connect
to the network and the internet works fine.
The problem is with the local network.
I can see both computers on the network tab. I can ping both by IP and by name. I made a Homgroup on the computer "Server". The computer "client" joined. I can see the libraries. Both computer's firewall are disabled. All firewalls from
the routers and the modem are disabled.
Double-clicking the library on the Homegroup does nothing. Trying to access the shared folder by \SERVER or by the network tab gives error "network path not found".
Basic settings, like file and sharing, etc, are on. Password sharing is off. Encryption is 40 - 50 (not the 128, I don't remember the specific number). This is both for Home and Work and Public networks.
Because I couldn't access the network, I decided to make an ad-hoc. Same problems. Even with static IP (192.168.0.1 [server] and 192.168.0.3 [client], 255.255.255.0 subnet) and NetBios forced at enabled.
I just can't make it work. I have tried a lot of info from here and other forums, but nothing has work. The worst is that another PC will join the network, but I haven't do it yet just because I can't make these PCs to work. As a test, I did put the other PC
in the network (Win 7 Home), and the same problem applied.
All the computers can see them in the Network tab, ping either ways with both IP and name, but when trying to access the pc over network, it gives network path not found error.
Yes I have shared files.
Troubleshooting both Homegroup and Network finds nothing wrong or just can't fix the problem.
Please help!

Hi,
I tried and received only errors (i don't remember know which ones).
However, I plugged the PCs via ethernet, let automatic IP address, and now I can access the network from both computers. Homegroups doesn't work because the network is public, but that isn't a matter right now, because I can access the files.
This makes me thing if the problem is the network adapter. In the Advanced tab on Device Manager Properties, I have the follow options, which I don't have idea what are they for:
AC_BE support APSD [disabled]
AC_BK support APSD [disabled]
AC_VI support APSD [disabled]
AC_VO support APSD [disabled]
APSD capable [disabled]
Multimedia/Gaming Environment [Enabled]
Roaming Sensitivity [Medium]
WMM Capable [Enabled]
Do you think some of that options are interfering?
Thank you

• DeskJet 970CXi - Windows 7 - Network Printer - Drivers solution

Hi all, i was looking for a solution to install my Deskjet 970CXi as a network printer, using Windows 7.
I didn't find anything directly concerned the network installation but only for local printer through USB port.
Many people are bored and tired about this issue.
So i decided to try by myself and using an idea taken from another thread ..... now it works really fine and it is recognized by the system as Deskjet 970CXi !!!
Here's the solution I've found
First part written by panther3001
1) in Windows 7, click the start menu
2) in the search field type "run"
3) click on "Run"
4) type "hdwwiz" and go to "OK" - note, you can type "hdwwiz" directly on search box, or add the command "run" in the start menu ( http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/What-happened-to-the-Run-command )
5) click "next," then click "install the hardware that I manually select from a list." click "next."
6) click "printers" and "next"
7) select "use an existing port" and go to "USB001." click "next" (you don't have USB cause the printer is on the network) .. choose LPT1 instead
8) click "windows update". This causes Windows Update to look for ALL printers that exist for Windows 7, and lo and behold, The driver for the 970cxi now shows up!!!
9) select this driver and continue on.
second part discovered by myself
10) install the printer as local printer and then try to print the test page, you'll get error, don't worry and delete the print process.
11) close the window displaying the printers and other devices
11) click the start menu
12) choose Devices & Printers
13) click on add printer
14) choose Network, wireless or Bluetooth
15) now Windows shows you 2 printers (one on the net and the other on your PC)
16) choose the printer connected through the printer server
17) from the drop list choose HP Deskjet 970CXi
18) DONE !!!
Following this procedure i performed the network installation of 3 Deskjet 970CXi, one is mine, the second one is my brother's printer (at his home) and the last one is in my office.
Please let me know if this works for you also.
Nicola

• Accessing "Windows Sharing" with root account

I have a problem with my account in OS X Tiger v.10.4.11. Probably NIDB is damaged and I can only get access to the 'root' account.
Before I start trying solving the problem I need to make a backup. My only option right now is to backup all my files to a PC (Windows Vista) through my local network. But when I activate "Windows Sharing" and click "Enable Accounts", there are no accounts to choose. I think it might be because I'm using the 'root' account.
I tried to access my Macbook trough the network from my PC using the 'root' account, but it didn't work.
Is there a way of enabling 'Windows Sharing' in root account?

OK, after some googling I found how to make a network connection between Vista and OS X. Ridiculously easy, was no need to ask in the forum.

• Need help with HP OfficeJet 6210 over windows shared network.

Hello All,
I have a HP OfficeJet 6210 that is hooked up to my Dell PC. The printer is setup on share mode and works well with other pc's on the network.
However, I am having problems with it working on my G5. When I goto System Preferences then Printer/Fax setup. I click on the printing tab, I am able to find the printer over the shared network and it set's it up as the default printer. So all that works fine, but when I try to print nothing happens. I looked at the driver and noticed the correct one is not being used. I am having a hard time installing the correct driver. On the G5 if I click on the Printer setup and then look under model. I do not see my printer listed anyway. Is there a simple way to add this driver to the list?
Thank you,
Michael

Thanks David. I have downloaded that file from the HP website, however I am having trouble locating that driver on my Mac HD. When I hook the printer directly to the Mac, it automatically selects driver 3.3. When I try to use the printer while connected to my Dell maching running XP, I cannot find the driver or the model of the printer from the drop down menus in the printer setup utility (under windows printing.) I was going to try to locate the driver myself by selecting "other" instead of finding it by selecting "manufacturer" then "model" of printer. I hope this makes sense.

• Problem with printing over the shared network printer

I have a very irritating problem.
To describe the situation. I have 2 computers and non of them is mine. First one have Windows Vista, and second one have Windows 8.1. There is also a printer which is connected with usb to the computer with Windows 8.1. I managed to share that printer on
the network, and when I connect to that printer and enter username and password (from Windows 8.1) on the pc that have Windows Vista, I can print without any problem.
The problem start when I restart the computer with Windows Vista. I can't print unless I connect to that printer again and again enter the username and password. Like Windows Vista for some reason is not storing those credentials. It is very irritating to
do that all the time, becase everything worked before like a charm.
Is there something I didn't do about those credentials, or is there some batch script that I could run in startup that will connect Windows Vista PC with that printer without any user input?
Thank you.

Hi,
When you restart the Vista, have you checked the credential in credential manager (Control Panel\Credential Manager)? Does it exist? You can clear cached unused credential and manually add the printer Windows Credential in the manager and check if it
helps.
You can also use a logon script to add the printer automatically every time you logon to the PC, you can refer to thsi example, some content need to be changed depends on your configuration.
