Connecting with FaceTime in Moscow

I bought an iPad2 for my granddaughter to use in Moscow.  She had wifi in her flat and uses the iPad2 there to send me emails OK.  However, when I try to connect with FaceTime my iPad2 rings out but she doesn't get the call.  We used FaceTime to communicate in the UK without any trouble using the same kit and settings.  Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing the problem?

In order to backup to iCloud the iPad must be plugged into a power source, connected to WiFi and locked - meaning that it must be asleep - or with the lock screen only visible. This is for automatic backups.
If the iPad is not responding at all to any user input, try restarting it or resetting it and see if you can take the steps necessary to back up. You can initiate the backup manually as well.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

When connecting with FaceTime, I see other people then they hang up.  Has anyone one else encountered this?
Usually, my wife contacts me with facetime, I try to accept connection and she sees other people form another country that quickly hang up.
    This happens often.
    Thanks

This seems to happen with the Iphone 5s if I am not mistaken

  • How can I get my iPad2 and my desktop Mac to connect with FaceTime if they are both associated with the same email account?

It seems I should be able to use my iPad to connect with my Mac through facetime if I travel but they both have the same account settings since I am in the cloud.  If I try to connect, I get a busy signal - naturally since I am calling myselt.  Is there a way to get this to work?

You need to associate another email address to one of the devices. Read about it here.

  • What is the maximum number of devices that can be connected with FaceTime?

I have tried to find in theh Apple web pages the maximum number of devices that one can connect to with FaceTime. Specifically, how many iPad2 or iPad (new) devices can connect to each other with FaceTime? What about an older iMac running Mountain Lion with iPads? Or, iPhone4s and iPads? Thanks for any information you can provide.

I don't know of any limit, as long as each device has its own individual identification ( e-mail address, or phone number for iphones)

  • Trouble connecting with FaceTime

Hi, look I have the same problem but in my case I'm trying to connect with my girlfriend who lives in a different city. She can call me and I will receive the notification, but when I try to call her nothing will happen on her iPod. I double checked my internet connection and restored my iPod's settings several times tough I haven't come up with a solution for this. Any idea on what's happening?
    Regards!

Hi, look I tried fordwarding various ports of my wifi router. Yesterday it worked perfectly, I used facetime with my girlfriend for over 20 minutes without a problem and then another 15 minutes with a friend. Today I arrived home and tried dialing my girlfriend but nothing happened, then she dialed me back but the only thing it happened was an announcement that said "connecting", nothing more. I loved the app. just as I saw it working but I'm starting to hate it due to all the problems I'm having to connect with other iPods. Is there anything else that I can do?
    Regards,
    Eduardo.
    Hello Eduardo
If you have a computer or another connected device, is its browser working? If not, shut down everything for about a minute and then restart the modem, router, and computer. Be sure to let each device's self-test finish before you restart the next. Then check to see if FaceTime is working properly.
If you do not notice problems with any other devices or apps, intermittent AV problems may be due to intermittent interruptions in your internet service. Call your ISP and ask if they might be experiencing intermittent interruptions.
The problem might also be at your GF's end. Next time you experience the problem, go to a different wi-fi location and call her from there. If your results are the same as at your normal location, go home and ask your GF to call you from a different wi-fi. By moving only one of you at a time, you should be able to tell which of you is the source of the problem.

  • TS1702 Iphone4 on Verizon not able to connect with FaceTime

FaceTime has been working up until today. I've checked all the settings and software and it all seems set correctly so I don't know why I cannot connect.  Any ideas?

You might want to try upgrading to the latest version of JavaMail (1.4.3), which makes use
of SSL somewhat simpler. Also, the file SSLNOTES.txt included with JavaMail has some
tips for debugging problems such as this, as does the JavaMail FAQ.
Most often this error is caused by not having the appropriate certificates in your local trust
store. The JDK normally comes with the required root certificates, but if you're running in
an application server environment you might be using a different trust store.

So I tried again and it worked, I could finally have a facetime chat with my friend. But this afternoon I wanted to have a chat with him today but what I mentioned earlier happened. so I can't make a facetime call or invite anyone to a multiplayer game on game center.
    Thanks for that, T-Ratt
With that new info, here are a couple of things you can try:
    (1) Turn either Wi-Fi or Airplane Mode on and off to try to refresh your connection. Then try FaceTime again. You can
    (2) Both you and your friend should test with more than one FaceTime contact to determine which end of your connection is the cause of the trouble. You can test with me if you need more contacts. Click my name at left to find my contact info.
    (3) Some users report that that changing the wi-fi DNS Setting to Google's 8.8.8.8,8.8.4.4 improves wi-fi performance for FaceTime.

  • Can't connect with FaceTime on Mac

I've just downloaded and installed the FaceTime on Mac beta on my three network connected home computers.
Everything works fine on two of the computers. I can make calls between two of the computers and I can make calls both to and from my iPhone 4 to these two computers.
But the third computer on the network is unable to send or receive a FaceTime call. I can find no differences between the System Pref settings among the three computers.
This is the console message I get from the problematic Mac:
    10/20/10 4:54:39 PM FaceTime[1070] attribute = {
    shouldFindExternalIP = 1;

Can anyone make sense of this? Any ideas how to fix it?
    Thanks.
    John

    cmearns,
It does sound like we have very similar problems with perhaps ultimately the same solution.
My situation may be a bit unique, however, in that all my testing is on and between computers connected to the same LAN, my home network. I have now installed FaceTime on Mac on four Macs connected to this network. Three of the Macs all work fine in terms of being able to send or receive FaceTime calls between themselves and from and to my iPhone 4.
My frustration is that the fourth computer on my network cannot complete calls to the other 3 computers or to my iPhone. Nor can it receive calls. When placing FaceTime calls from this computer, the receiving computer (or iPhone) recognizes an incoming FaceTime request. However, clicking the accept button never completes the connection. As far as I can tell there is nothing unusual or different about the setup of that computer. It is on the same network with the same sharing set up, etc.
Something happens at the final connection process that causes the call to fail.

  • "Poor Connection" with Facetime

    Hello Facetime pros,
I can no longer facetime with any of my usual contacts.  We have a strong connection to the local wifi.  We get an initial answer with a frozen frame from the other side, the audio is too choppy to use.  Looking for help on this.
Here's our status - Facetime was previously working fine - could go to Uruguay and Wisconsin - no issues.
When I buy my mom an Ipad for xmas - and we try and facetime - poof - the issue above.  I try with my usual contacts - same issue.  I try from varioius wifi networks to try and isolate to a wifi issue on my side - same trouble from all the networks I try to all the recipients I've previoiusly contacted successfully.
We have tried all the suggestions here from Facetime Troubleshooting here -> http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3367
We have also tried these that one runs into when searching for this issue:
Toggle Wi-Fi off and back on again (Settings > Wi-Fi).
Toggle FaceTime off and back on again (Settings > FaceTime).
    Restart your router.
    Reset your router.
Restart your device by pressing and holding the power button.
Force the FaceTime app to close and launch again. To do so, double tap the home button, then tap and hold the FaceTime app icon; when they jiggle tap the minus to close the app. Double click the home button and restart the FaceTime app.
Changing DNS info may fix FaceTime connection issues. To do this on iOS devices, simply tap Settings > Wi-Fi and then tap the blue arrow next to your Wi-Fi connection and edit the DNS field (enter the DNS servers; 8.8.8.8; Google’s Public DNS) . Please see this article for more info.
Tap Settings > General > Date & Time and set a time that is one year ahead (like 2013) and try again. If this does not solve the issue, make sure you toggle “Set Automatically” on.
I have not tried reseting my device, but I had done that recently for another reason, so it's been done within the last 30 days.
    Please help.

No guarantee, but things to try.
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button
