Connecting WRT160N V2 to Cable Modem
I just installed a WRT160N v2 through the accompanying installation disk and everything came up and worked fine...for 3 days. After that, the response times seemed to slow, and later, my access became more and more limited. I could access some sites, but not others, and sometimes, I wasn't able to access the internet at all, even through my wired connection. Thinking the router failed, I returned it for another one and ran into exactly the same problem after it, again, ran flawlessly for 3 days. I've followed the instructions on the web site: cloned the PC address, manually set the MTU, turned down the browser security settings to low, all to no avail. I've since turned off security on the router, disabled McAfee on my PC, I've reset the router, reset the settings to what came from the manufacturer and have unplugged the router and my cable modem so many times my fingers are sore. I even tried uninstalling the router software from my PC and tried to set it up manually, all to no avail. Any ideas out there?

Actually, I saw your posted solution on another problem to downgrade firmware to .008 and voila! It works. Three computers, three different cable modems, two different WRT160Ns; and the problem all boiled down to the latest version of firmware for this router. After my experience, I'm surprised the forum isn't flooded with these issues. Any idea when they're going to release the next update?

I am having an issue where my airport extreme is saying there is no connection to the internet but still shows a green light and the status lights on the cable modem are all good. This is affecting both wired and wireless connection.
Today I had an issue where my iMac (wired) and other wireless devices could not connect to the internet but my work PC (windows 7 and also wired) was connected fine...in fact I was on a VOIP call at the time and had no issues. The only way I have of resolving this issue is to power cycle the airport by unpluging it.
Also, during this time I am unable to access the airport base station through via the airport utilities on my iMac, iPhone, or iPad.I had the same experience yesterday when my airport extreme is green, cable modem has no problem and no internet on wired iMac or no WiFi. After talking to the cable company, there is nothing wrong with the cable modem and the line, the problem is in the System Preference>Network>Advance>DNS of the iMac. I don't know why as it seems like someone just turn my entire set up upside down. The only thing that I can relate to is that I was trying to figure out with Back To My Mac feature in iCloud between office and home.
In the Network, my DNS server somehow is 10.0.1.1 which is internal Apple IP. Take that out and you would see the actual DNS Servers from the providers.
Also when I look at the airport extreme through airport utilities, in Network setting the Router mode is Off (bridge mode). Once change this and everything is good to go. -
Connecting new G4 to Cable modem via wireless
I do not have a wireless router today, but have a Lynksys for my Vonage. I have a new G4 downstairs and would like to connect through my cable modem which lies behind my lynksys. What is my fastest and cheapest route to enable my new G4 through the cable modem without getting my cable company involved
i think you would want to get your cable company involved to a certain degree anyway. some providers do not support a wireless setup. you have to get a wireless router for what you want to do (i would prefer apple base station, but you want the cheapest solution) but you have to make sure your provider will support a wireless connection. popular wireless routers are made by linksys, d-link, belkin, and netgear. Connecting 2504 to dsl/cable modem
Management has decided to put in a Wireless network and want to keep it sepeate from rest of the network. I have been asked to scope out DSL/Cable internet connections.
im not familiar with setting up 2504 with dsl router.
any basic quides that will help in setting up 2504 with a dsl? do i need any static ip addresses for this setup or dhcp lease provided to cable modem would do?You setup the WLC the same as if you weren't using a dsl router. The WLC is only layer 2 so you will need to have the router do the NAT. The WLC can do DHCP, or you can have the router do DHCP. Take a look at this guide which has the basics

endI think your NAT statement is wrong, serial 0/0 is your internal interface, you should specify fa0/0 in your nat statment if I am not mistaken.
this --> ip nat inside source list 1 interface fa0/0 overload

E1000 won't connect to internet through cable modem
I just switched internet providers and now have a cable modem. The internet works when I have it plugged directly into my computer. My wireless card recognizes and connects to my E1000, but the E1000 won't connect to the internet even though the ethernet cable is plugged into the correct ports. The cable provider left because it's obviously a problem with the router itself.
I've tried all the usual tricks--resetting the modem, resetting the router, resetting the computer, etc. Unfortunately, another problem I discovered in the midst of all this is that I no longer have Cisco Connect installed on my computer, and I have somehow managed to lose the CD for it.
Anyone have any suggestions?Suggestion:
1. Download the Cisco Connect software from the Cisco website (click HERE)
2. Connect the router, modem and hardwired the laptop to the router as well
3. Reset the router
4. Run the Cisco Connect software -
Can't connect to internet, Motorola cable modem seems to freeze
I have had this problem more and more fequently the past three or four weeks: I'm connected to the internet by ethernet through a motorola cable modem (SB5101). As long as the PC activity light on the modem is rapidly flashing amber things are fine. As soon as the activity light goes solid amber with no flashing I can no longer connect to the internet or send or receive mail. During one of these "freezes" when I check network status in the network pane of system preferences the light beside ethernet is yellow and the message says-"Built in ethernet is currently active. Built in ethernet has a self assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the internet." When I check when my connection is working I get a green light and this message "Built in ethernet is currently active and has the IP address 70.44.etc. etc.(not sure if I should make the whole IP address public or not)You are connected to the internet through built in ethernet." I also notice when I check the Built in ethernet under network in sytem preferences that the IP address changes depending on whether the modem seems frozen or not. When disconnect the power to the modem and reconnect, I notice that within about two minutes the IP address changes and I can get back online again. Or at least I could. last time I did this the IP address did not change and I couldn't get back online. Now I'm using my iBook connected via ehternet, which is working fine for now (past 15 minutes). When I first plugged the iBook into the ethernet (I normally connect to the iBook through a snow airport, which I've disconnected to try to isolate this problem) I got this message(with an exclamation in a stop sign)-"IP configuration- 70.44.53.etc in use by 00:01:50:23:3e:c2 DHCP server24.229.54.226". I clicked through the box, and the iBook is still connected to the internet and working. I have contacted Motorola tech support, and it seems the modem is OK. I will contact my cable company next, but I don't have high hopes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your reply to my post. I was able to get back on the internet with the G4 using your suggestion, but the modem continues to freeze, whether connected to the iBook or the G4, using ethernet or airport. I will contact my ISP. -
Trouble connecting Cisco router with cable modem for Internet purposes
So I am requesting help from the Cisco community on this issue as the cable company states there equipment is working fine. At all my facilities I have a guest Internet service setup through a local Internet provide to provide Internet services to the residents and guests. I have the cable modem usually a Motorola SBG6580 or a SMC 8014 (both provided by cable company) connected to my router on a FE or GE interface. I am using static IPs and using the cable modem just as a modem (bridge mode). Over the past several months these connections have just stopped working. I have not made any drastic changes to my router configs; however, the cable company has updated the firmware on these modems. I am wondering if that could affected how the modem and router talk. I was told by the cable company that the modem sees the Cisco router but that the port is inactive. My router shows the port is active and traffic passing. Does anyone have any ideas that could point where the problem lies? I will post a basic config to one that currently does not work. I am using a VRF to route a certain group out, using NAT. Please let me know if I need to post additional info. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Having Trouble getting airport to connect to new comcast cable modem
Help, I'm been at this for 2 days now. I don't know why I'm having so much trouble. I'm trying to transfer from DSL to comcast cable modem and running into lots of problems getting everything to work.
I can't get my airport extrreme to talk to my new comcast cable modem. I've tried everything, restart the modem, restart and reset the airport. chaning out cables, ensuring the green light is at the cable connection of the modem and the airport.
I can find two issues I can't resolve. one, the 10.0.0.1 webpage for the modem/router doesn't response, pings fail to 10.0.0.1. Yet, my computer is talking to the internet nicely using an ethernet cable to this cable modem. I've talked to comcast for hours, to many different people, over Many hours, and they either say the box is working or hang up on me or transfering me to nowhere land.
The airport never goes to a green front light, and airport utility and always dispay an empty IPv4 address. I've tried everything, and can't get the airport to renew it's DHCP license.
Where am I going wrong? I've search the web, and tried the solutions I found. Is my 3 year old airport too old? or is my comcast box bad? I checked the airport firmware and I'm on the latest version.
After getting this working, I still have an OOMA to transfer over to the comcast modem. Am I kidding my self? Help please.
selinaok, answering my own question, Turns out, there are three ways to do a hard reset on my airport extreme. Only the last method worked. The easy reset, from the Airport utility menu ( clicking the restore default setting) didn't make my airport talk to the new comcast cable modem. The second way, by pressing the reset button while power up didn't work. The harder third way, hold in the reset button and then plugging in the power cord did work. and the airport is now playing nicely with cable modem. I wasted how many hours before reading this method in the apple support pages ? and then remember doing this trick once many years ago.
I also wasted a few hours trying to get ooma to talk on the new cable modem, and the hard reset key for OOMA to play nicely with a new modem can be complicated. This method requires it to be connected and working ( plug ooma tele into the older DSL network), hook a phone to it, dial * # * # 0 9 9, (star, pound, star, pound then 099) and saying yes. That reset it to factory settings letting it reconfigure itself to a new modem gateway.
I still can't get into the gateway web page 10.0.0.1 to change the admin password, Don't advertise that. I get no reply to request or to pings. I think some comcast rep changed a port setting so I can't reach it. So I have an open wireless connection and unprotected.
I hate switching my network provider. Now I need to write it all down, for when I get fed up with comcast and decide to move to another provider. -
E2000 keeps losing internet connection on Motorola SBV5121 Cable Modem
I bought a E2000 last week. Used my wired PC to setup which failed as it said internet connection not detected.
tried reinstalling after powercycling the modem and routers but still it could not detect the internet.
I used my friends macbook pro to setup router wirelessless and the E2000 + internet connected successfully.
I connected my PC using ethernet and it worked bingo! Shortlived as in 2 days again no internet was detected. Now i have tried everything but no avail. My friend out of town so cannot try reinstalling it using Mac book.
Any known issues with the cable modem and Linksys E2000?
Thanks
AkshayBypass the router and connect your computer directly to the modem.
Make sure that you can access the Internet when you connect the computer directly to the modem.
If you can access the Internet through the modem then try to configure the router manually.
Connect the modem to the Internet port and computer to Ethernet port on the router. Press and hold the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. Release the reset button and wait for 30 seconds. Now try to reconfigure the router manually.

Internet Connection Issues between Airport & Cable Modem
I'm posting this because I couldn't find a similar answered question here, and I hope to save someone else the grief I went through trying to get my wireless network working.
Bought an Airport Extreme to connect to my non-wifi cable modem. The Airport had no difficulty setting up the network, and all of our computers and wireless devices were able to connect to the network. Unfortunately, none of them could connect to the internet.
The problem turned out to be that you need to edit the default network configuration to add the DNS server addresses of your cable provider. As soon as I did that, all the devices had internet. As far as I can tell, the settings live on the modem, but are not picked up by the Airport in quick setup process.
I hope this saves someone else a trip to the Apple store or a long support call.

Ethernet connection only after reseting cable modem
Hello,
Can anyone help me? Today at work, I plugged an ethernet cable into my my mac air and got a connected green light, but no internet access. The same happened when I took my laptop home. Here, I just reset my cablem modem, and it worked. I would feel very awkward reseting the cable modem at work because everyone shares it and that would put everyone's work on hold. What can I do tomorrow at work to make the ethernet connection access the internet without reseting the work cable modem?
Thanks so much for your time,
