Connecting WRT300N to WRE54G over Cat5 wire :\

Does that work?
Again, can I connect a wireless-g range expander (WRE54G) using an ethernet network cable to a wireless-n router/gateway and get them to work together?
Why? Because I already have both and there's a big gap in the middle.
Mirage

Okay, I may have been a little unclear.
I have a WRT300N which as you know is wireless router/gateway which is capable of communicating in N/G/B.
There are no wireless-N range expanders from Linksys!
They do have an access point WAP300N (I think) but I couldn't find it in the market here where I live (outside the US).
So I bought a WRE54G which is a range expander that works on G/B but not N. All the network devices I have are G so I don't care so much about N now.
The WRE54G connects wirelessly to the router and expands its signal. And it does that... It repeats (expands) the G/B parts of the N/G/B signal from the router but not perfectly.
Now, my problem is that the space between the router and repeater is filled with walls (about 7!) So the router's signal is vary weak in the area the repeater is in.
So the question is... If I extend a network cable from the router to the repeater... would it be able to act as an access point? So instead of repeating a wirless signal I want it to repeat a wired signal :\
So Klatch, let me see if I understood you right... you're saying that I can take the signal from the network cable and broadcast it using the WRE54G. But I can't catch a wirless signal and broadcasted on a wire (as if it's NIC), right?
Appreciate your comments, all.
Thanks

  • Phone / infinity over cat5e

Sorry if wrong forum, but wasn't sure of best place for this.
I've just had my master socket moved to the front of the house to avoid star networking, but I have a comms cabinet at the other end of house and no power easily near the new master, so... I ran some cat5e cabling to where I need it and using a cable tester wires 1 to 8 light in order.
So... I thought I could just plug rj11 cables into the rj45 sockets as they are the same family, and they fit, but plugging a phone into one end of the cat5 cable and a flat uk phone plug to rj11 between the master and other end of cat5, but there is no dial tone on the phone, the cable tester does light on some wires, but with odd results.
So I'm assuming the cat5 sockets might need wiring differently than it does for ethernet, does anyone know what pins you need to have connected on rj11 over cat5?
The rj11 cables I'm using are ones that came with various phones / home hubs I've acquired over the years.
    Hope that makes sense?

Done a bit more testing, looks to be a problem with the combination of rj11 cables I'm using, suspect they don't all have the same pins connected.
Going to follow some advice I read elsewhere, take one working rj11 <> rj11 cable, cut in half and terminate cut ends with rj45 plugs

  • USB over Cat5/6 Solutions or Wall Dock

I'm looking for a USB2.0 over Cat5/6 solution to connect to and charge an iPad/iPad2 (Preferably iPad2). I will be using this solution with the following wall mounting kit:
    http://www.premiermounts.com/product.asp?PartId=2164
    http://www.premiermounts.com/product.asp?PartId=1793
I've been able to find a few different USB 2.0 over Cat5/6 solutions varying from 150'-330' capability, but they don't seem to have enough power to charge the iPad while the unit is running, ie Gefen (http://www.gefen.com/kvm/dproduct.jsp?prod_id=5529) only outputs 500ma while the USB power supply that comes with the iPAD2 outputs 2A. I also know that there are cables made that combine power from (2) USB ports into (1) device as one came with my external 2.5" laptop hard-drive enclosure but I haven't found them for sale separately and I'm not sure that the iPad2 will charge properly while continuously on with a combined 1A supply (via 2-500ma USB ports).
Any help with my dilemma is appreciated, my goal is to utilize the iPAD2 as an advanced automation Crestron Touch-Panel. I would have no problem with an all-in-one wall dock solution or an elegant looking wall dock where the panel is easily removable by the customer for syncing with a desktop computer. So far I've come to the conclusion that I can power the iPAD2 continuously with the factory power supply or I can connect it continuously via a Cat5/6 solution, but not both.

Have you looked at this system from VidaBox?

  • Can you synchronise a Nokia E61 with Oracle Calendar over the wire?

    Hi there.
I work in IT and I have just got the Nokia E61 to test out as an alternative to the MDA's that we currently have. Basically we are looking to phase these out as they have proved to be very unreliable but they have been relatively easy to setup via ActiveSync.
Now that I have just received a Nokia E61 to test I was wondering; is there a way I can get Oracle Calendar to synchronise over the wire as opposed to over the air,
just like i could on the MDA's after installing Oracle Calendar Sync for Pocket PC.
The reason why I ask is as a company we would like to do over the wire is so that pc users can synchronise their organisers via usb without costing the company any money via GPRS connections.
Is their a possibility that this could be done or will I have to go down the SyncML route?
In advance many thanks for your help!

This cannot be achieved with the Synthesis SyncML client. The latest Oracle Calendar Application System server patch (10.1.2.3.1) only mentions Nokia N90 and 6682.
So Oracle does not support Nokia E61 yet. I suggest that you raise an enhancement request SR on Metalink.
    Best regards,
    Fred

  • Encrypt data over the wire with oracle client?

Can the Oracle Client encrypt data over the wire? If I have an Oracle 10g R2 server that is outside of my department's firewall, what is the best way to ensure that none of our data is going across the network in the clear? Thanks.

Why don't you use a VPN?
If that is for some reason or other no good idea, and you still need a solution: We have a tool to redirect TCP connections, which is able to encrypt the connection. Just mail to [email protected]

First, this is a forum of volunteers.  There is no "urgent" here.
"Urgent" means one of two things -
    1) people are dying, or
    2) you have a customer-facing, revenue-producing production system that is down.
(And to get some perspective on the second case, keep the first in mind.)
For the first, you call whatever civil emergency service seems appropriate.
For the second, you open an SR with Oracle - which requires a paid-up support contract. For *them* to consider your problem "urgent", you will need to demonstrate that your problem falls under item #2. I seriously doubt your problem fits that criteria.
You don't have a support contract?  Now you know the exact dollar figure that your company places on the data.
That said, you need to understand a few things about your specific problem,
First, port 1521 is only used by the listener to accept a connection request.  Once it gets that request (and finds that it is for a service (sid) that it knows about, it will fork a server process and tell the requesting client that it can communicate with that server process over some other port .. a randomly chosen port number in the "high" range.  It could be your vpn is blocking that other port, whereas your internal firewall is not.
But this is just an educated guess since I cannot find "can not connect remote oracle database over VPN" in any error message manual. If you had mentioned the VPN along with an actual oracle error message we could be much more precise in our diagnoses and recommendations.
    ---- edit 22 Sep
It occurred to me that I just assumed you were using the same client machine in both cases ... a laptop that you use both at work (local network) and home (vpn).  If that assumption is false, there are probably problems with your tns setup on the home (vpn) machine.
But again, it would be much easier to help if you gave us an actual error message.

  • Import (v. 7.1.5) iPhotos from old iMac to new iMac (v. 9.2) using Migration Mgr. over fire wire.  All photos (  many dups) appeared in EVENTS and PHOTOS in the new Mac – but NO ALBUMS.

Attempted to import 6.5 GB of (v. 7.1.5) iPhotos from old iMac to new iMac (v. 9.2) using Migration Mgr. over fire wire.  All photos (plus many dups) appeared in EVENTS and PHOTOS in the new Mac – but NO ALBUMS.  I read a previous response to a similar question -- to copy the pictures library to the new computer.  How best to do that?

There's actually an option to iPhoto Library Manager that makes this all almost work flawlessly (and work well enough for me). With the exception of Photo Albums that the pictures are part of, if you select "Library > Rebuild Library..." and then select "Scavange Orphaned Photos" check box, then it will put all the Photos and Movies into the "Scavanged Photos" album. It matches the modified pictures to their originals. It preserves all the event names and photo groupings. All the meta-data I could spot check it got right (although with 44k pictures, I only checked a few). If you fail to select this option, however, it will find no pictures at all when it goes to rebuild the library (this was true of the small test libraries I tried as well as the big, monster 280GB library I just finished converting). The conversion process took 5 hours to run, but in the end produced a library my new iPhoto can read and that I can interact with. I'll be suggesting to the iPhoto Library Manager folks a notation that would estimate the number of Orphaned Photos and display that number as a hint to the user that the option would be useful.
Edited: Thanks to Old Toad and LarryHN for their help in finding which of the many options to transition this library to 9.5.1 I needed to use. Sorry if I took my frustration of the past several months out on you guys for generously trying to help me.

  • IPod wont sync over fire wire

I have a 30gb Photo iPod and a 1.42 MHZ G4 mac mini. I plugged in the iPod over fire wire and then the iPod loaded the first time. The second time i plugged it in the iPod froze and would so did my computer until i unplugged it by force. Then i plugged it in using the USB 2.0 cable and it mounted perfectly. This is the only computer in my house with USB 2.0 and being there is only 2 USB slots, one for my keyboard and one for my mouse, I do not have the slots to spare. I have rebooted the computer and the ipod. The same thing happens when i plug it in over firewire, both freeze. I have iTunes 4.9 and iPod version 1.2.

I would recommend updating iTunes to 5.0. I've had issues in the past where my iPod was running newer software than iTunes and it caused issues.

    Hi pbworth,
When troubleshooting issues with iPod classic, it may be helpful to place the iPod into Disk Mode. For information on how to do so:

  • Can't connect to my printer over network anymore

We upgraded to ox10.9 and since then we can't connect to the brother laser printer connected to our other computer. I went to brother's web site and downloaded the newest driver and now when I click on "add printer" it's not even there. I don't know what to do. I reset my printers and it's still not showing up... only if I connect it via a USB. Before 10.9 I could connect to the printer over bonjour because I was connected on my other lap top..
    any ideas?

I figured it out. I had to create a new location on both the Powerbook and G5 and click "Apply Now". Then the PB showed up as a server on the G5.

  • HT204400 I used my apple tv wirelessly and it worked fine, then I plugged an Ethernet wire into  the Apple TV to move it and could not it to connect.  When I unplugged Ethernet wire it will not give me a wireless option. How do I get that back?

If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
        1.    Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
        2.    Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
        3.    Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
        4.    Open iTunes.
        5.    Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.
(You may already have a micro USB cable if you have a camera or other digital device)

  • Connecting to Space API Over SSL

Does anyone know which jdeveloper keystore is used for trusted certs when connecting to the Spaces API? I've added my trusted CAs to every keystore that I can find but I still can't connect.
I'm getting the all too familiar "Caused by: javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: sun.security.validator.ValidatorException: PKIX path building failed: sun.security.provider.certpath.SunCertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested target" each time.

It's simple, I'm trying to connect to spaces API over https(https://host/webcenter/SpacesWebService) instead of http(http://host/webcenter/SpacesWebService), and when I do, I'm getting the "javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException" error. So where to I need to put the trustedcacert?

  • Can't connect N73 to PC over bluetooth

I can't connect N73 to PC over bluetooth with new Nokia PC Suite v6.84.10.4, I get this message "Cannot use the connection type. Check that all the needed hardware, software and drivers are available". This happened after I instaled new version of PC Suite and the patch to v6.84 didn't help.

I think the problem is in bluesoleil software It looks like PC Suit does not work with latest IVT Bluesoleil version 3.2.2.8. I tried with and witout patch and I even installed older version of PC Suite that worked before with older version of bluesoleil....
