Connecting Xbox via Imac

I have my imac connected wirelessly to my broadband connection with a router downstairs. I am trying to share my imac's wireless internet connection via an ethernet cable on my xbox 360.
So it will go Xbox(ethernet cable)>Imac>(wireless to router> Router>Broadband.
However i don't know how to configure the imacs internet sharing with the 360's network settings.
All help is appreciated,
-Feron.

I had the same problem, All of these sites have step by step instructions on how to share internet to your xbox or xbox 360. Basically you have to put all of the settings on manual and enter in the correct IP address and so on. The sites below explain it all. Good Luck!

  • Connect xbox to imac

Sometime in the near future, i hope to purchase an imac, a big part of this is to be able to connect an xbox 360 to the imac, but i have 2 questions about it
    1. Is there any way of connection the xbox 360 to my imac and allow the imac to act as a screen to play the games on. I first thought i may be able to connect through the mini DVA port but this seems to only be for image output. Is there any decent way of solving this problem? also it is quite important there is no lag so will this be a problem and if so, is there anyway to get around this.
    2. Is there any way to connect the xbox to the imac and use it as a bridging device for my wireless network. I have read that there may be any problems but i would really like to be able to access the internet this way for use of xbox live. Is this possibility using my ethernet cable or will i have to shell out for the wireless for the xbox?
If at all possible i would like to keep the price down but obviously maintain functionality over price.
    Thanks in advance

Thank you very much, so it seems like my first problem has been solved by the elgato hybrid.
Any ideas on using the imac as a bridging device? anyone had any experience with this?

  • Connecting Xbox to iMac

Hey, I have a 24" intel based aluminum iMac and I want to be able to connect my xbox or a ps3 to my computer. Is this possible, and if so, what is the adapter that I need?

I looked at this and if you want to connect an xbox it has to be through the usb port with a device such as the elgato hybrid. This is the best option as it does not encode the video signal (or something) meaning you won't get lag. The only problem is to connect your xbox to this devise it is through s-video and hence the picture quality may not be good.
This option still isn't perfect since some games only work at 60hz and this device works at 50hz so you are likely to have issues with this. It would be worth googling to see if anyone has tried this setup and check there results because it is alot of money to find out it works but if it does you also get a tv tuner along with so that's a bonus.

  • How do I set up my iPhone 4s to sync automatically to iTunes when connected to my iMac via USB?

How do I set up my iPhone 4s to sync automatically to iTunes when connected to my iMac via USB?  Currently it only syncs when I manually click on sync.
Somehow I do have my 5th gen. iPod set up to sync automatically with the same iTunes / computer.  But I do not actually see a checkbox for either device.
(yes, the 'prevent devices from automatically syncing' is unchecked)

  • Connecting two 27" iMacs via mini DisplayPort

Juz a thought. Wonder if possible.
Since the 27-incher iMac does video input and output, instead of buying two 30" displays ($1799 each), might as well buy two of these 27" iMacs ($1999 each) and connect them via their mini DisplayPorts. Wonder if it's possible to use one 27-incher for computing and use the other as a second monitor, and switch around whenever it's needed. Kinda cool to have two 27-inchers and Macs on one table top.

There is no reason why that would not work. It would be the same as connecting a MacBook or a Mac mini or a Mac Pro (any Mac with a Mini DisplayPort) that same way to use the 27-inch iMac's big screen as a second display, which is the primary purpose of this feature. It should not matter if the primary Mac happens to be another 27-inch iMac.
And the second iMac would not be "just the display to extend my screen." It is fully operational, so it can be doing tasks in the background. It can be acting as a file or web server, or processing video, or downloading/uploading files. I believe there is a keystroke to toggle the display, and you can probably even control it using +Screen Sharing+ from the other iMac (as long as the two are connected over a network).
What would be really interesting to know, from someone who actually has two of these iMac sitting side-by-side, connected with a Mini DisplayPort cable, is if you can use either iMac as the extended Desktop screen for the other iMac, on-the-fly. So you'd be working on iMac A with iMac B being the second display. Then, you switch to the working on iMac B with iMac A being the second display. And do it with a few keystrokes and no rebooting. Now, that would be cool.

  • MacoBook Pro connecting wirelessly via Personal Web Sharing from iMac G5

Subject line says it all... more specifically my problem is that some things seem "blocked" on the MBP when i'm connecting wirelessly via my iMac network, but then are 100% functional when I use other wireless networks.
    examples:
    • gmail via Mail.app [mailbox always has the ! symbol and says it's timed out]
    • playing app-based online games, certian functions will not work
    • using FTP software, it won't connect
Maybe this an issue I can fix with port forwarding, if so how do I go about doing this? I was told my iMac is technically acting as a router, but I don't have a lot of experience with this type of networking. Thanks!
    iMac G5 2GHz • 15" MacBook Pro 2GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Personal Web Sharing can be a bit tricky and yes, it's because of the firewall on the Mac that's sharing its connection.
The actual firewall software in the Mac is completely configurable, but the friendly user interface doesn't support the more sophisticated configurations. Fancier setups would require the use of commandline scripts run from Terminal.
You'll save yourself a lot of headaches if you buy a wireless base station, and forget about using Personal Web Sharing. A $60 Linksys will do the job nicely.

  • Connecting PS4 or Xbox to iMac

From what I've heard from people, it is not impossible to connect either PS4 or Xbox to iMac. But apparently it is very complicated.
So what do I exactly need to make this happen? And... how and in what order do I connect these to iMac? How much will everything cost?
And which one is better, PS4 or Xbox? Also, what do these add to gaming other than controllers? Does it have better graphics? Can I play with mouse and keyboard I stead of using controllers? Lastly, will playing games cause overheat and fans spinning?

    Hi

  • A printer that I have connected to my iMac via usb in not showing up in printer options on my iPhone or iPad and it use to before I upgraded to 8.1

A printer that I have connected to my iMac via usb in not showing up in printer options on my iPhone or iPad and it use to before I upgraded to 8.1. How can I fix this?

Is it an Airprint-compatible printer, and is its WiFi enabled if it is? (see: About AirPrint)
If it isn't an Airprint supported printer, then you need a 3rd party driver on your iMac to print from an iPhone. Such as Printopia. As it worked in the past you probably have such a printer driver installed; check and see if it's running.
Beyond that try restarting the printer, restarting the phone, restarting your router, and restarting your computer.

  • I have a Free Agent external backup hard drive connected to my iMac Intel desktop via USB.  Why do I get an error message, from time to time, upon startup stating: "disk was disconnected improperly, always eject disk before disconnecting"?

I have a Free Agent external backup hard drive connected to my iMac Intel desktop via USB, I never unplug it.  Why do I get an error message, from time to time, upon startup stating, "Disk was disconnected improperly.  Always eject disk before disconnecting."?

I never unplug the external harddrive, and the error message comes up only occassionaly upon startup.  Maybe the USB connection gets disrupted enough to cause the computer to see it as disconnected and then reconnected while the iMac is powered.

  • Question on Firewire 400 Connection via iMac and throughput

This may be a question for an Apple person, but does anyone know if the Firewire connection on the iMac is managed by an individual I/O card, versus the system bus as are the USB ports.
The 'word out there' it is and thusly the Firewire performs better than the USB, depending on other 'stresses' on the CPU and OP SYS, etc.
    Can anyone confirm this technicality?
It could be useful in selecting various peripherals.
    Thanks.

Um... FireWire 400 does have more throughput than USB2, but that has nothing to do with there being a separate card or bus for it (nor is it Mac-specific). It's a difference between how the two technologies work. FW400 will alway provide more sustained bandwidth than USB2, by design. USB uses considerably more overhead in its data packets (and the 480Mbps max speed is inclusive of that overhead), CPU usage, and the delay between packets is much higher as well.
In practice, a FW400 device can transfer pretty close to the 400Mbps limit, whereas USB2 typically tops out at 160-200Mbps sustained. This is true regardless of the hardware platform, and generally it's not relevent if there's a separate controller card or one built-in.
This is also very much common knowledge and well-known and understood. It's not rumor.

  • New iMAC - want to connect PC Laptop to Internet via iMAC Airport

Hello - I have a new IMAC and the Internet connection to the IMAC is fine but I'm having trouble establishing a wireless network.
The store told me that I could use the Airport built into the MAC as a wireless router so that my PC laptop can access the Internet as well. My PC laptop is running Windows 2000 - and I have used it with a wireless router previously.
I can see the iMAC wireless network connection in my laptop's available network; however, I'm unable to connect to it.
Also, my IMAC system properties for Airport indicate that the wireless network is unavailable.
I've not selected any security settings - unless there's some default settings that I'm not aware of.
    Advice or suggestions please???

The store told me that I could use the Airport built into the MAC as a wireless router so that my PC laptop can access the Internet as well.
That's correct. You will be using your Mac OS X's Internet Sharing feature to share your iMac's wired Internet connection wirelessly, using the iMac's AirPort, to your PC laptop. However, you will not be able to use wireless security, as the only option available (WEP), for Internet Sharing, will only work with other Macs.
To setup for Internet Sharing (Wired to Wireless):
    Enable Software Firewall - iMac
System Preferences > Sharing > Firewall
    - Click Stop to start the software firewall
    Setup the Network
Cable Modem > (Ethernet cable) > [Ethernet port] iMac > (wireless) > PC laptop
    Setup Port Order - iMac
System Preferences > Network > Show > Network Port Configurations
    - Verify that "AirPort" and "Built-In Ethernet" are enabled.
    - Verify that "Built-In Ethernet" is at the top of the list, followed by "AirPort".
    - Click "Apply Now."
Configure the Internet Connection - iMac
    System Preferences > Network > Show > Built-In Ethernet > TCP/IP
    - Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
    - Configure IPv6: Automatically or Off
    Enable Internet Sharing - iMac
System Preferences > Sharing > Internet
    - Share your connection from: Built-in Ethernet
    - To computers using: AirPort (checked) (Note: Uncheck all other entries in the list.)
    - AirPort Options
    -- Network Name: <anything you want>
    -- Channel: Automatic
    -- Click OK
    - Click Start

  • How can i connect xbox to time capsule?

Hi, I am (whilst being shouted at by my 11 year old son), trying to connect Xbox 360 to a time capsule. I tried last year without success, and afer chatting with a bloke yesterday in an Apple store, I thought I would try again. No luck. I've tried inputting every set of numbers and address I can find, but the Xbox, just will not connect. Is there a simple set of instructions that will do this? The forums I've looked at have information that is beyond me. The time capsule is connected to a Virgin media modem via ethernet. The Xbox Live connects via ethernet cable to modem just fine. I would just like it to work wirelessly so I don't have to keep plugging the cable back into the time capsule and rebooting. As an alternative is there a piece of kit that would let both the Xbox and the time capsule remain wired up to the modem? There only seems to be one connector however. Many thanks in advance.

Connect an Ethernet cable from a LAN <-> port on the Verizon gateway to the WAN port (circle of dots icon) on the Time Capsule.
Then, temporarily connect a spare Ethernet cable from your Mac to one of the LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule to help AirPort Utility "see" the Time Capsule. Once you have the Time Capsule configured and updated with new settings, you can remove the spare Ethernet cable.
If that is not successful, you will need to perform a Factory Default Reset on the Time Capsule as follows:
Pull the power plug on the Time Capsule
    Wait 4-5 minutes
Hold in the reset button on the Time Capsule and while you continue to hold it in, plug the power back to the Time Capsule
Keep holding the reset button for 8-10 seconds before you release it
Wait 30-40 seconds for the Time Capsule to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
Restart your Mac, then open AirPort Utility to configure the Time Capsule

Are you saying that Yos/10.10, as a volume located in a mounted external drive won't appear as an option in Snow Leopard's Startup Disc, in Sys Prefs? I've never heard this one before. AFAIK any mounted volume, regardless of OS, should appear there. I would think that, if it appears in the Boot Picker/Startup Manager it would also appear and could be booted to from Snow's Startup Disk. I can't test this myself, since I don't have Yos. Is what you are saying documented somewhere?
