Connecting Yamaha DGX-500

I just bought an M-Audio interface and i have it attached with midi cables to my yamaha dgx-500. I have the interface on, the cables plugged in, my yamaha on and in the midi setting. The mac has no problem recognizing my interface and that there's a midi device plugged into it, but I still can't get the yamaha to work with garage band. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hey Jman & Hangtime,
Did you guys ever resolve this. I have the same problem a Roland XP10. GB sees it and interacts via my midisport just fine, but I am limited in the voices to a standard midi set; I can't get all of the voices that I can get just by playing the Roland.
Midi from Roland to midisport. Usb from midisport to MBpro. And visa versa.
By the way, this post is being done from memory; I am not in front of it right now. I'm going to try some of the tips I found in these forums when I get a chance, and make sure its not just me being dingy.
Thanks in advance.

  • Yamaha DGX-500 MIDI ... I have a bad feeling about this

    Hi,
    I am attempting to setup the Yamaha DGX-500 through my Macbook Pro to GarageBand 3. I have searched the forums and found that Yamaha is particularly problematic.
    The Yamaha is connected through a M-Audio Midisport Uno USB-MIDI connector. I went to M-Audio's site and downloaded and installed the latest drivers (3.2.2). The Uno appears fine through the Audio Midi Setup panel. I connect up the keyboard and start to record. The first few notes are okay, but I have lots of missing notes and other notes sustain forever.
    Other threads have suggested replacing the Uno with the Yamaha UX-16. I don't believe I will be able to return the Uno, so I would prefer to make it work if possible.
    Any other suggestions or troubleshooting ideas I could try?
    Thanks.

  • MidiSport UNO to GarageBand with Yamaha DGX-500

    Ok, I'm having serious trouble getting my set up to work. I own a MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz (10.6.3) with 2 GB RAM, a Yamaha DGX-500 keyboard, and MIDI Sport UNO (newest model, latest drivers). I've connected the MIDI IN cable to the MIDI OUT on the keyboard and the MIDI OUT on the cable to the MIDI IN on the keyboard (and vice versa). The Audio MIDI setup recognizes both configurations, but seems to work better when the cable IN is connected to the keyboard IN. When I launch GarageBand, it recognizes that there is one MIDI input available. However, the software instrument tracks fail to produce any sound from the keyboard on the computer. The MIDI Sport UNO's LED illuminates that USB and MIDI IN are connected, but not MIDI OUT.
    I'm totally in the dark about what I could be doing wrong. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Since GB doesn't send any midi data out, the only connection you need between the keyboard and the interface is the keyboard's midi out to the interface's midi in.
    When you have plugged everything in, does the little blue dot in the lower right corner of the LED window light up when you play a note?

  • Unable to connect yamaha dgx 300 to powerbook

    I am unablet o mount my yamaha dgx 300 to garage band. OS 10.7.2

    Are you using a MIDI interface? You'll need to do that and make sure you have the latest (i.e. working) drivers downloaded into your computer for it.

  • Connecting Yamaha keyboard with MIDI cable?

    So, I have a Yahama YPT-320 portable keyboard and would love to start recording some music through GarageBand. I know you need a MIDI cable, and I was wondering if this one works with iMac at GarageBand? The seller says that it works with Mac and PC, but one of the reviews says that it doesn't work with Mac? Any ideas would be appreciated!!! :) Thanks.

    Interesting timing...  I just received the MIDI/USB adapter you mentioned and am having problems with it.  (Mine was $5.85 including shipping on eBay.)  Do you get the same results as me?
    Details: MacBook Pro 13"; OS X Lion; Garage Band '11 v6.0.4; circa-2002 Yamaha DGX-500 Portable Grand keyboard; adapter USB to Mac; adapter MIDI "OUT" connector to keyboard MIDI "OUT" connector.  Adapter red LED is on continuously.  Adapter yellow LED flutters dimly continuously (questionable...) and flashes bright whenever any keyboard key is pressed.  But as I hit all white keys from low to high, only about every 10th key is recognized by Garage Band.
    I am not a MIDI expert and was starting to look into this.  My keyboard supports "GM System Level 1" and I was just reading the details of what that means.  But if you confirm it behaves like this for you, I will just go with a different adapter.

  • Failed to plug and play with my Yamaha PSR-500. What do I need?

    I'm trying to connect my Yamaha PSR-500(A relative unknown keyboard even on the Yamaha site) and the plug and play function doesn't work. I did a internet investigation but al the things I found where useless...
    -The keyboard is old.
    -I use a MIDI-cable.
    -iMac doesn't recognize the keyboard.
    -Had the same problem with my ex-windows computer but then I found a good windows software...
    Greatings and have a great night,
    Nathan

    I'm sorry but the Yamaha website distinctly says that the PSR500 has NO USB Connector.
    It does have a midi interface in the form of IN and OUT jacks - 5-pin DIN type.
    (These seem to be labeled the wrong way round.  Either that, or my HOSA adaptor is labeled the wrong way round.)
    The only other connectors (all on the back) are Power Adaptor, Pedal and Earphones.
    NathanMac said that the Yamaha PSR500 is relative(ly) unknown, even on the Yamaha site.
    However, they do offer some advice on how to connect here:
    http://faq.yamaha.com/us/en/article/musical-instruments/keyboards/digitalkeyboar ds/portable_keyboards/psr500/656/1385/Interfacing_a_Yamaha_MIDI_Keyboard_with_a_ Laptop_Computer
    I hope this helps.

  • Yamaha Dgx 220 iPad help

    Hello everyone,
    Last week after graduation, my aunt gave me the new iPad, which I love very much. I am currently using it to work on a movie project for a scholarship, and I'm using GarageBand for the audio. I wanted to use my Yamaha DGX 220 to record the instrumental. I first tried to record but as you may have guessed it turned out very badly. I then tried to use the Apple camera connection kit to connect the Yamaha keyboard to my iPad. Unfortunately I received the message that this USB device is not supported. I tried to look online for a solution but I could not find one for the iPad. For macs, it was suggested that an intermediary box of some kind be used. Would this work for the iPad? I would hate to go out and buy unnecessary hardware.
    Thank you all in advance for your help,
    -M65

    is it a DGX-220 or PSR-220? My PSR has an OUTPUT on the back (to run to an amp) - simply run a standard guitar type cable (1/4" jacks) from the OUTPUT on your keyboard into your Mac's LINE IN (using a cheap Radio Shack 1/4" -> 1/8" mini adapter) and you can use the built-in sounds this way... Set it up as a REAL INSTRUMENT. Be sure to turn MONITOR on so you can hear yourself

  • How should I connect yamaha HS50m to macbook pro

    how should I connect yamaha HS50m to macbook pro? Does macbook pro with i7 processored have an enough sound card for yamaha studio monitors?or will I need an external sound card or mixer?

    Some mikes have sufficient output to connect to this port, Alexey, but most don't. the solution, if you really want to use this particular mic, is to obtain a small battery or mains powered pre-amplifier to connect between the microphone and the line -in input. Alternatively there are devices which will allow you to connect your existing mic through the USB port. If you have an amplifier with a mic input already you could also use this as an intermediary, though it won't be very portable, of course!
    You may find it cheaper to simply buy either a USB or "line level" mic, though.

  • Java.io.IOException: Connection failure with 500

    Hi
    When i am trying to establish connection from applet to servlet using URLConnection..
    It is giving me java.io.ioexception Connection failure with 500.
    Can anybody let me know why and how to solve this.
    Thanks&Regards,
    Subba

    Error code 500 is "Internal Server Error." Unfortunately this could be loads of things. :-(
    What servlet / web-server are you using?
    Some general pointers.....
    - Check your web-server access log and see if the request is received. (I'd expect so as you're getting a 500 error)
    - Check your servlet log & see if it is init-ing correctly.
    - I always write a simple doGet() method in my servlets so that I can check whether the servlet is alive or not...
    public void doGet(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws ServletException, IOException {
    PrintWriter out = new PrintWriter (response.getOutputStream());
    out.println("<html>");
    out.println("<head><title>ObjectServlet</title></head>");
    out.println("<body>doGet() called: "+new java.util.Date());
    out.println("</body></html>");
    out.close();
    Logger.log(this, "doGet", Logger.TRACE, Logger.TRACE_OUT);
    Then repost if you're still stuck.

  • Connection to BTS-500 Bluetooth Headset

    Hi,
    I try to connect a BTS-500 Vivanco Bluetooth headset to my iMAC. I start the Bluetooth configuration wizard, can see my headset and select the name of it at first. In the next step, the wizard tells me that it retrieves data from the headset. This never stops unless I cancel the configuration. The headset has been set into pairing mode for one minute.
    Anyone got any experience with that?
    Thanks in advance and best regards,

  • Problems connecting Yamaha P-90 to GB08/Leopard via M-Audio Uno USB

    I am able to connect my Yamaha P-90 to my old G4 Powerbook running 10.3.9 using an M-Audio Uno USB MIDI interface. GB correctly detects that a new MIDI device has been added. I have just bought an 20" iMac with Leopard, but it cannot detect the MIDI device when I plug it in. The Yamaha and the interface clearly work, so I assume there must be an issue in Leopard. Do I need to install any specific drivers to make this work? I don't remember having to do this with the old machine, although admittedly it was a while ago.
    I've read numerous posts bemoaning the issues that seem to surround trying to connect Yamaha to Apple via USB. Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks, Guy

    I just found this on the M-Audio website:
    Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
    Updated 10/26/07
    M-Audio has a history of quickly bringing the benefits of significant new advancements in computer technology to the pro audio community—from the advent of USB and FireWire to the release of Mac OS X. We are working closely with Apple to ensure that our products and technologies will support Mac OS X Leopard.

As soon as Leopard drivers or updates for any product become available, our Web site will be immediately updated to reflect this.
    If you choose to install Leopard on your system before your M-Audio product has been qualified for use with the new OS, please be aware that your M-Audio device may not function properly. Please continue to check M-Audio.com for updates.

  • Patch list for Yamaha DGX-505?

    I need a patch list to paste into the Environment window so I can access the voices on my Yamaha DGX-505 keyboard (rather than the GM MIDI). I looked on the Yamaha website and could not find one; hopefully it exists.

    yeah, i've got the jv1080 with latin, session and orchestral boards.
    but the jv1080 is in the multi instrument, when you make new -> multi instrum,ent. just initialize the multi for jv1080. that should bring up the presets (4 banks) i think. if not give us your email address and i will post you my multi instrument. no problem.

  • Logic pro 8.  yamaha DGX-640

    i am using logic pro 8. i just bought a yamaha DGX-640 and want to have the piano's sounds recorded. i have done the obvious , plug it directly with a guitar cord into one of the adio channels but wanted to get it in with usb to a midi channel. is there a way to do that. what settings , if you know, do i need to set the piano at. the manuel, that came with the piano,  is not very helpful

    Automation data is always absolute unless the SNAP function is selected (which it is not!)
    If these were automatic entries, why would they vary in EVERY case? The example shown varies by 0.3db but in others on the same automation recording at relatively similar speed of movement they may vary by 1db or even as much as 2db in some cases!!!!
    Strangely, when editing the 1st of the two nodes by hand (lets say they are 15.9db and 16.2db respectively) the first node will never exactly match the second in value! i.e the next step from 15.9db would be 16.4db. Even worse - in the automation event list the values are shown as whole numbers without decimals!

  • Connecting Yamaha CVP303 Electric Piano to iMac

    The iMac and Garageband are both very new to me. My kids are all piano players so I thought it would be great for them to discover work with Garageband and connect our Yamaha to our iMac. I understand that I can use a Yamaha UX16 midi interface cable to connect the iMac to the piano, however the cable is only 6 feet long which is about 10 feet to short. I am not able to relocate either the iMac or the piano.
    My question is whether there is a way to extend this cable or if there is another interface cable that will work.
    Thanks!

    I would rather connect via wireless too.
    you'll drive them nuts, the latency would be unbearable.

  • Yamaha DGX-620 MIDI data not being received by Mac

    I've just spent the past five hours tearing my hair out attempting to make my DGX-620 Portable Grand 'talk' to my computer. I have a 2008 Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro (not the unibody model, obviously) running OS X 10.6.8.
    I have recently taken the wooden stand off my DGX keyboard so as to put the keyboard on a desk instead. BEFORE I DID THIS, MIDI data was sent and received effortlessly by the DGX and the MBP respectively, via an A-to-B USB cable (A in the computer, B in the DGX). I see no reason why the removal of such materials should affect the keyboard's functionality (after all, the stand is just comprised of wood, right? No electronics to be seen).
    After I came across this infuriating hiccup, I began the laborious process of uninstalling and reinstalling the driver for the DGX (both version 1.3.2: http://download.yamaha.com/search/detail/?site=se.yamaha.com&language=sv&categor y_id1=16277&category_id2=16084&product_id=105576&asset_file_language=EN&asset_id =57163). The keyboard was unplugged for the whole process. I rebooted the computer and opened System Preferences - sure enough, there was the Yamaha USB/MIDI preference pane. I turned on the DGX with crossed fingers - and my efforts had been fruitless, much to my annoyance.
    Anybody who can shed light on this issue (or point out a ditzy mistake I've made) will elate me and lift my spirits. Sorry, I can't really give any other rewards.
    Many thanks in advance,
    Gabriel
