Connecting you Macbook to an HD Ready TV

I've just received a Mini VGA to VGA adapter and have finally been able to connect my Macbook to my HD Ready TV, having done so I get a great picture on the TV. But, for some reason the screen won't stretch to the edges of the TV, how do I get the picture to fill the TV screen?
Thanks

When i hook my macbook up to the plasma screen my desktop appears but there is nothing on the desktop. Just the background image. When I move my cursor all the way to the right of the screen and go out of the screen it appears back on the actual computer where the desktop is normal. do you know how to move the computer desktop to the tv. or is there a resolution converter i need? anything will help thanks

  • How to connect you macbook pro to your tv

I am trying to connect my 13 inch macbook pro to my Polaroid HDTV but I am not getting any signals. Any solutions?

So I went to my display preferences and after looking around on youtube and google I found that I am missing the arrangment tab next to display and color.  Can someone tell me if this is because of the adaptor or my macbook pro.  Also I used the HDMI cable to plug into another laptop (not an apple product) and it worked perfectly fine it showed up on my tv and had sound and everything, but I didn't need the adaptor since it had a port for it already built in.  So my conclusion is that it isn't my TV or HDMI cable and the problem may lie with the adaptor or my Macbook pro. Also when I plug in the adaptor to my Mac it goes blue for like a split second and then comes back on but nothing else changes.

How do you connect you macbook pro to a Sony Bravia tv with a Belkin cord!?!?!?!?!?!?!? We know how to set it up, but what setting do you put your tv on!?!?!? we have tried everything, but it wont work!!!!!!!!! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I have connected my mbpr directly to a Sony Bravia using an hdmi cable, then set the tv to use the corresponding input port, and it works just fine. Have also connected via airplay -> appletv -> tv (with the last connection via an hdmi cable), which also works fine.

System Preferences > Network > WiFi
To give a network the highest priority, drag the name of the network to the top of the list. This is the network your computer will attempt to join first.

  • Can you WIRELESSLY connect a macbook pro to a monitor to have extra work space on a separate screen from your macbook? (not mirror, extra monitor/workspace)

Can you WIRELESSLY connect a macbook pro to a monitor to have extra work space on a separate screen from your macbook? (not mirror, extra monitor/workspace)
    It needs to be wireless.
I am not asking about mirroring, but as a second screen.
Apple tv communties said the Apple tv cannot do this, but maybe another type device can?

My thunderbolt port stopped working on my late 2011 MacBook Pro rendering my external monitor useless--or so I thought.
Mac Genius suggested using the Apple TV via AirPlay Display as a $100 solution. Took me all of 6 minutes to figure this out as there are no directions in the Apple TV box supporting this. But, it does work and I am now back in business.
PS. Don't set up with bluetooth--seems logical but you want to use AirPlay Display under Settings > Displays.
Also, I originally thought my external monitor stopped working because I upgraded the OS. This time, it was definitely a hardware issue and not software. It also fixed a known sound issue my monitor had with Macs. First time in my 15 years I've ever had a ViewSonic have issues with an Apple product, too. Thanfully, it is now fixed.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to connect my macbook to the TV?

I have a macbook with OS X 10.6.8 and I am using a mini dvi-to-hdmi cable to connect it to the TV. the display was a success but i have no audio. I already purchased a separate audio cable that goes in where you put the earphones on and the other end is the red and white plugs for the TV but i still have no audio out from the TV. It seems that my macbook cant detect the TV for the audio. HELP!!!

You use audio cables to the TV if you use VGA, DVI, or Composite using a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound plugs or a 3.5mm stereo input plug for audio. You attach it from the headphone jack of your MacBook to the appropriate audio input plugs on your TV.
When you connect the MacBook using a Mini-DVI to HDMI adapter you will probably need to use external speakers or a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound plugs connected to a stereo system for audio if your TV doesn't have separate RCA input plugs or a 3.5mm stereo input plug for audio with the HDMI plug. You attach it from the headphone jack of your MacBook to the appropriate audio input plugs.
The Mini-DVI to HDMI doesn't carry audio and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with the HDMI. Check your TV manual though to see if it might have audio plugs that work with one of the HDMI ports. You attach it from the headphone jack of your MacBook to the appropriate audio input plugs on your TV.

  • Connecting a MacBook to an external display or projector

I have tried to connect my MacBook to a projector and to a TV using the mini-DVI to Video adapter, both with the same poor results. Here's the steps I took:
    - Turned on the TV
    - Connected the video cable to the TV "video in"
    - Connected the video cable to the MacBook with the mini-DVI to vieo adapter
    - Opened the MacBook
    - Turned it on
The MacBook boots up, the MacBook resolution changes and the video on the TV is distorted, showing essentially three images of the MacBook display. Any attempt to adjust the resolution using system preferences just makes it worse.
Has anyone had success using a MacBook for presentations using either a TV or a projector and, if so, what procedure do you use to connect?

    Greetings from Hong Kong-
I have a major presentation to give in a couple of days and have NOT been successful connecting to an external display. I am starting to freak out. Any instructions would be helpful!

  • How to connect my macbook pro to LDC television

    I have a macbook pro 13-inch, mid 2012 model.
I have an LCD television of 32 inch from panasonic (TH-L32C8K).
My TV does not have hdmi port but have vga and AV ports.
To connect to Macbook I bought an thunderbolt to hdmi cable. Then I bought an hdmi to vga cable. So my final arrangement is like this
    Macbook<-->thunderbolt-to-hdmi-cable<-->hdmi-to-vga-cable<-->Television
On the television i changed to AV mode to PC. But nothing is shown on the tv screen. My TV works with other thing. When i connect the macbook pro, it does not show anything. Can you guys suggest whats going wrong? Before buying this macbook, i was like dreaming about it. But now life became so hard using the mac. Everything is pricy and not compatible to outside world devices.

That's a complete mess and I am not suprised that it is not working.
Instead of getting two adapters, you could just get a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter and a simple VGA cable, so you can be sure it will work. Maybe you should have looked for more information before purchasing anything.

  • How to connect my Macbook into my HD TV?

Hi, after reading a lot of post, I still do not know if I could connect my Macbook into a 42' plasma TV, I mean, how can I connect my macbook into my 42' plasma tv? I do not care if I have to used 2 different cables and/or adapters
And I think it would be very useful if somehow a mini dp to hdmi cable (supporting audio) could be found/create; because actually I can not use Apple TV, and I would like to be able to watch the HD TV Show that I may buy from itunes into my HD TV in HD quality offered on itunes.
    Thank you for any help

You can definitely connect it, but the audio part might be a little tricky. You'll probably get an Apple mini-DVI to DVI cable. If your TV has DVI, then as far as video goes, you're done. If you have HDMI but not DVI, then you'll need a DVI to HDMI adapter. By the way, if you have the new Aluminum model, then the cable you need is a mini display port to DVI.
The audio is where it gets funky. If you have a stereo receiver, you would get an optical toslink cable that goes from your MacBooks headphone jack into the toslink port of your receiver (apple sells this cable on their web site). If you don't have a receiver, then it is up to your TV as to whether it can take audio from a different input while using the HDMI input. You would most likely have to use standard RCA audio cables for this. You probably should experiment first to see if your TV can do this.

  • Can I connect my MacBook Air wirelessly to my Panasonic Viera HDTV

I would like to connect my MacBook Air to my Panasonic Viera HDTV wirelessly, so that we can view family photos, videos etc on the large flat screen. Is it possible and, if so, how do I go about it?

I believe you would need an Apple TV:
    https://www.apple.com/appletv/
FWIW, you are not running iOS (any version) on a Mac computer, it would be Mac OS 10.x.x (which is helpful for anyone trying to help you).

External screens are designed to work as extended displays for your computer's display. It means that menu bars and desktop icons won't appear, and you will only see windows if you drag them to the right part of the computer's display.
To change this, you have to activate video mirroring > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5019

  • How do I connect my MacBook Air 2011 to a projector?

How do I connect my MacBook Air 2011 to a projector?

It depends on the input connection for the projector, but since many are rduced resolution, VGA seems to be the prevalent common connection.
It's just a matter of buying the adapter that adapts VGA to the Mini DisplayPort/Thunderbolt port on your Air. If it is a DVI or HDMI connection input on your projector, the online Apple Store carries that as well.
This adapter and sufficient length VGA cable is all you need for VGA.
    Here's the DVI adapter.
For some reason, I am unable to bring up the Moshi HDMI adapter on Apple's site.

  • How do i connect my MacBook Air to a Printer on my Wireless Network

How do i connect my MacBook Air to a Printer on my Wireless Network ? The printer is connected to a PC running Windows 7. That PC is connected to my Wireless Network. MacBook connects fine to Network, but can't find Printer.

    Hi Kappy,
Thanks for your response. I followed your instructions (for Mac OS 10.6.7). It seemed to set up OK, but when I tried to print I kept getting the following Failure Message "Session Setup failed : NT_Status_Invalid_Parameter".
When I get the "Advanced Window" should I enter anything into the "Location" field ? Maybe I am not entering the correct Workgroup, Server or Sharename ? Is there a way to make sure all of that is correct ? I went on to the computer that the printer is connected to and verified all of that, but am not sure I looked in the right places.
When I print via my Home Network from another Windows 7 Computer to the same PC, it works fine. I just can't get it to Print from my MacBook Air.
I thought of using the IP Address. How do I find the IP address of the Computer that is connected to the Printer ? Is it what they call the IPv4 Address, or the IPv4 Default Gateway ?
Appreciate any help you can provide.

  • How do I connect a MacBook Pro to HD TV?

I just bought a new HD TV. I bought a mini display port to HDMI cable and connected the MacBook into HDMI port 3 on the TV.
My Macbook "Purple Sky" screen appears but no other icons, menus, trays etc. The Screen Setting dialog box appears but it is different to the one on my macbook. I cannot get anything on my macbook to show on the screen other than the default "purple sky" screen. Does anyone know if there is something i need to be setting on the TV (Samsung D55 8000) or my MacBook Pro in order to make this work? Thanks so much.

    Sorry, Mike, part 2 follows:
However, the ColorSync Utility had become activated and I believe it helped me later one. When I clicked on this utility I got a window called “profile first aid” and I clicked on the “verify” button. I think this is what led me to the 800 x 600 stretched resolution. Result: the DVD movie now covered both TV and laptop screen.
Also under the display tab (probably of the TV display at this point in time) is a check box for “show displays in menu bar”. Checking it will result in a shortcut to your display settings from the desktop.
Finally, under the display tab (within both TV and laptop display) is a useful button called “gather windows”.
(At this point, I had not yet chosen under the arrangement tab “mirror displays” and was getting “lost” for the following reasons.) Curiously the TV display was shown on the Macbook screen while the laptop display appeared on the TV screen. Confused? So was I. Sometimes I did not see the cursor on the screen I was looking at. So I would chase the cursor by using the trackpad to continuously move to one side or the other, depending on which side I was allowed to move towards…and the cursor would eventually end up on the screen I was looking at. This is a phenomenon of “extended desktop” where each screen represents one side of the desktop.
Pressing the “gather windows” button moves the two displays together, one “cascaded” behind the other. You will be able to easily click each display in turn to switch between them.
    ARRANGEMENT
Within the TV display is the arrangement tab. Here you can find the “mirror displays” check box. The default is called “extended desktop” where each screen represents one side of the desktop.
Under “extended desktop” mode, you can choose which display will be your main control screen. In the arrangement tab you will see two images representing the displays. Under extended desktop, the location of the menu bar determines which display you will use to control everything. One of them has a white border at the top that represents the menu bar. You can click and drag the menu bar to the other display to make it your main control screen.
If you check the “mirror displays” box, identical images appear on both the TV and the laptop screen.
The tabs will also be automatically reorganized as a result.
Within the laptop display, there will be four tabs: display, arrangement, color, options.
Within the TV display, there will be two tabs: display, options.
    DARKENING LAPTOP SCREEN
When watching the HDTV you likely will not want to be distracted by an active laptop screen. To put it to sleep you need to connect an auxiliary keyboard or a mouse. The alternative is to hit the F1 button to reduce the backlighting.

  • (Trouble printing) Trouble with connection between Macbook Pro and Hp Deskjet 1510.

Trouble with connection between Macbook Pro and Hp Deskjet 1510. (Nothing Prints).
I have a Macbook Pro and am having difficulty printing documents from ‘Pages' from my Hp Deskjet 1510. I have installed the necessary software for the printer and it is connected via USB. Every time I try to print the printer icon comes up as it should, 'printing' and then 'job completed' and then the icon disappears. (Nothing is printed.) I thought it might be something to do with Pages compatibility with the printer but exporting the document to Word or making it a PDF doesn’t change anything. I don’t have Microsoft Word on my computer. The scanner does work and when I printed a ‘Test Page’ that worked too.
Let me know if you know why this is happening.

With these settings the network now works flawlessly, however, when i have my ethernet cable plugged in, my internet access via my airport card(on the macbook pro) is no longer available. Hoping you can tell me why this would be with this info i've provided.
Educated guess. The networking devices have priorities as to which are used. The standard order is that Ethernet has a higher priority than Airport.
While your Ethernet is unplugged it is inactive and the Mac ignores it. Once you plug it in, the Mac sees that it is active and switches traffic to that interface.
I actually take advantage of this feature at home, but configuring my Airport and Ethernet with identical fixed IP addresses. Normally I'll use Airport, but if I'm copying a huge file and I want faster performance, I'll just walk my MacBook (previously iBook, previously Powerbook) over to my Ethernet switch and plug in my MacBook. Magically, the Mac detects that the Ethernet is active and continues the file transfer uninterrupted over the faster 100baseT Ethernet connection. When the transfer is finished, or if I really need to move back to the Comfy Chair, I unplug the Ethernet cable, and all activity reverts back to the Airport, all without disrupting any existing networking connections.
You on the other hand have totally different settings for your Ethernet and your Airport, so when you switch to Ethernet, you basically loose your Airport connections.
    Something you can try:
    System Preferences -> Network
Gear icon on the bottom left, next to the [+] [-] icons.
    Select *Set Service Order...*
Now Drag the network interfaces into the perfer priority order you want. In this case put Airport above Ethernet.
NOTE: You may want to create a new Network Location for this, instead of messing with your normal home Location (which is most likely the default Automatic. That way you have your original you can always fall back to.
