Connecting your iPod to an Alpine deck in your car

Has anyone else had rare problems with an iPod hooked via a hardwire to an Alpine receiver? I have a great sound system in my truck. I had installed a hookup for my iPod that charges the iPod while I can play songs thru the system. I can even control my iPod via the Alpine receiver.
However, every rare once and a while, my iPod will freeze up when I skip forward thru the songs. I have a 60GB iPod Photo.
Thoughts?

No.  There is no configuration setting on the iPod to facilitate it.  Are you sure that the car system is compativle with your mdel iPod and its iOS?

please help me to access the menu.

    Hello shashankj3,
Have you tried *resetting* your iPod classic with it still connected to the USB port in you car?  To do this, press and hold the *Select* (Center) and *Menu* buttons together until the Apple logo appears.  Don't be afraid to try this more than once if necessary.
If no luck there, try a different cable as well as contacting the manufacturer of your car to see if there is anything they can suggest as well.

  • IPod for your car - VW factory connection

    Hi all,
I just recently bought a 2006 VW Jetta, and I wanted to be able to hook my 3rd Generation iPod up to the car's stereo system. Unfortunately, the dealer couldn't tell me much about the Volkswagen connection system, and they didn't have one hooked up for me to check out.
It costs about $200-250, which is a little expensive. But it sounds like it could be a very cool system, since it plugs into the dock connector, recharges the iPod while you have it hooked up, and allows you to control the iPod from the stereo console.
My question is, has anyone actually purchased or used one of these? Can you give me some feedback on what they're like, and how well they work? I read an unattributed (read: unreliable) comment that the radio only allows you to access your music in a handful of song folders. Any truth to this? Or does the stereo interface look something more like iTunes?
    Thanks for the feedback, folks.
    G3 iBook, PowerMac G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I purchased one for a 2006 Toureg. It's certainly not worth the money, for the following reasons:
    1. It does not display song information on the dash. I've got the vw nav system, which displays song info for the radio, but this adapter shows simply track number.
    2. It only shows the first 6 playlists on your ipod, and there's no way to get to the others.
    3. iPods generally have a "Purchased Music" playlist which does not appear to be deletable or renamable, and that screws up having the lists you want available in the car.
    4. The order of the playlists on your ipod is not the same as 1-6 on the car, which also makes it confusing, especially as you add more playlists to the ipod and wish to understand how that has affected what a specific playlist is on the dash. Especially more difficult because the name of the playlist is not exposed.
    5. Installing it bypassed by cd-changer.
    6. Skipping between songs takes a long time, and repeats part of the song you're on before skipping, which just ***** for this kind of money.
    7. From time to time, it just stops working - unplugging, rebooting and replugging the ipod fixes.
    8. From time to time, it just kicks out of playing and returns to the radio.
    9. From time to time, it prevents the rear view camera from working on the toureg.
    10. It doesn't recognize on the go playlists until you save them, and each time you save one it's a guess whether or not the list will even be accessible between 1-6 on the dash. Of course, for long drives where you may want to create a few different playlists along the way, this proves to be completely unworkable.
    11. When plugged into the adapter, the ipod is unusable. There's no way to simply use the ipod to manage the music and output it directly to the stereo. Frankly, that would be a vast improvement over product as it stands today.
    12. Oh yeah, and if you download videos from iTunes and sync them to an ipod video, your "Purchased" playlist contains these videos, which is really pointless in this scenario, since there's no way to watch them while driving. So if you do this at all, you're not going to get 6 music lists to choose from - you'll get 5 music lists and 1 video list.
This is by far the worst ipod accessory I've ever purchased, and sadly, the most expensive one as well. Returning it isn't really possible, since it involves labor to put it in and take it out.
VW has an aux in port for the ipod on the toureg, and I should have just stuck with that, though they should really locate power in the same hidden space as the aux in rca ports. I couldn't figure out a better way to wire everything up without cables running all over the place and getting in the way.
I had an alpine ipod-ready deck in the car before this, and that worked better, though scanning through tracks was somewhat slow -- though lightning fast compared to the VW factory offer.
I am very disappointed that Apple promotes such a badly designed and feature-poor adapter.
I love the iPod, and I love my toureg. But this thing between the two just simply *****.

    Try a direct download:

Manually install it by holding your "Option" key down when clicking on the "Restore" button in iTunes and select the firmware file you downloaded.

No, not unless you can find a TV which will output in an iPod compatible format, a USB interface built in, and some sort of firmware to emulate iTunes and/or provide control of the iPod as a HD storage device.

  • Connecting your IPOD to your Car using a Pioneer Radio Adapter

Is there any easier way you can watch your videos on your IPOD using your Radio (Pioneer) Adapter. I had it working 3 times but the problems seems to be after I shut my car off, the adapter or the IPOD will not allow me to go back into the menu. I know I would press the Menu button continuously and the IPOD will take me straight into the menu. This is a cool feature to have because then your Ipod works like a Mini TV output for your car. Anyone has any suggestions!!!?????? Please hit me back up with a response.

I don't think it's really an "issue." Your iPod is fairly old if it does not have a color screen (probably the 4th gen model).
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353
Recent iPods have much better processors and can interact in more ways with the devices they are connected to through the dock connector, like your car's system. It's like a computer... an old computer cannot do many things a newer one can do, no matter what software is installed because there are hardware technology limitations.
Now, if that other iPod you tried was the same model you have (or earlier), and it worked, please post back.
Otherwise, you should refer to the documentation that came with the system, or online info that may be available from the car maker's web site, to read the system requirements for the iPod. If your iPod meets the requirements, please post back.

  • Connect an Ipod to your Car Stereo

I recently purchased a new car radio that supports mp3 players, meaning it has a usb input.
Is there a cable that converts the ipod headphone cable to a usb output, or is it not possible to connect the ipod to the radio.
PS. I tried connecting it with the normal cable from the bottom of the ipod to the stereo and nothing happens, thats why i think it has to be a cable that goes from the headphone to the stereo
    Thanks in advance
    bob

    theb14,
Since you didn't provide detailed information on which car radio you're talking about, this is an educated guess...
I bet the USB port on your car radio just attempts to read whatever is connected as a hard drive, then scan for .mp3 files. The first part will work fine with your iPod (read it as a hard drive), but unless you changed the default import method of iTunes, all your imported songs are AAC files, not mp3 files. Odds are your car radio doesn't know how to play AAC files, so it ignores them.
If you post more details on what exact radio you're trying to connect to, that'd help.

My itouch recently froze, i was told the only way of saving it is to reset it to it's original settings. I have important photos & notes on there that I can't lose. When you connect your ipod to itunes does it save that information?
Please answer this if you know the answer. I need to get this figured out.

Unless you can connect the iPod normally to your computer and get the photo and notes to the iPod without restoring the iPod.  It sound like that can't be done.
    Just what have yout ried?
    - Resetting will not delete anything and may all connecing the iPod to your computer and geting your stuff.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
