Connecting Zen Vison to PC causes all .exe to stop load

Hey all.
I'm having a strange issue. When I connect my Zen V 4gb to my PC i become unable to open ANY applications such as .exe and .msi files until I unplug the unit. I have tried plugging it in directly to the PC, and through a USB 2.0 hub.
I am running WinXP SP2 and Widows Media Player v. I also have the latest firmware installed on my Zen V.
Thoughts anyone?

I was hoping to use the PC Music Library first, so that I could fix files that are not tagged properly, rate some music,?set the Genre (I have a lot of foreign music, so I could differentiate them by nationality in the Genre), etc and them I could also use when transferring to my memory based/jogging mp3 player as well. But it looks like I might be able to fix the tags directly on the player as well (I have a feeling this might be slower, take more time). I can drag single items (I'll do one by one if that's what it takes), but I saw that I can also drag multiple items (so that will cut down manual labor). I just hope that it won't get stuck once I get close to droping the 500th item. I didn't get a chance to try because I had to come to work, I'll try later and let everyone know.
Don't edit the files on the player. If you copy the files back to the PC the changes will be lost unless you use a special update feature in MediaSource 3.

How to have a runtime error or failure cause all executions to stop and cleanup

I am using batch parallel mode. It's easy enough to terminate or abort all executions from SequenceFilePostStepRuntimeError using IEngine.TerminateAll() and .AbortAll(), but I would like to be able to set an error on all my running executions and cause them to run cleanup when I encounter an error on ANY of the test socket executions.
Anyone have an example of how I might do this?

I did something like this for a failure handler once... and looking through my code I think the biggest headache is to realize that one execution socket has no easy way of seeing the execution references for other sockets. These things are kept by the process model's top level execution... which you also don't have a super easy time accessing without tweaking some logic in your Model file.
(1)Somehow or another you want to get access to the "TestUUTs"/"SinglePass" Fileglobals.TestSocketExecutions[] array and make use of it in your classic RuntimeError callback. The easiest solution (but not the most elegant) would be to edit your model to copy/clone the file global into someplace more convenient... ie "TestUUTs - TestSocketEntrypoint".
(2) in your error callback, handle your error as usual i.e. tell top level sequence to go to cleanup etc. but also loop through the other execution references and do some variation on GetSequenceContext() and setting Runstate.sequenceErrorCode and the rest. The example api calls below are probably overkill...

I'm using "Locals.RecievedError" as my error buffer in this case because it made sense to me to modifiy the error text to include which socket actually had the error (since now it's propigated to all sockets).

or something like that...

If I click on a record in the Group Tree all the previous records are loading first. Is this normal? Is it possible to have only the selected record load?

I have tried a few DNS servers -- no improvement I can see, but since it is only a sometimes thing, I can't say for sure.
Something new I've noticed, which may be related somehow: For the past few days, I've been having trouble with my high speed cable connection. Cable company (Comcast) says the modem reports a good connection, but from time to time no internet access is available (Widgets, browsers, et al can't connect to anything).
When this happens, or maybe just before it does, if I click on a link in a page in Safari, the gear wheel in the tab appears but does not show any activity until I move the cursor. IOW, its 'spokes' don't spin. Once I move the pointer, even by just a pixel or two, the spokes start spinning, after which the page may or may not eventually load.
I've waited as much as two minutes before moving the cursor, so I'm pretty sure this isn't just coincidence.
Anyone seen anything like this?

Update 7.1 caused all messages to stop appearing in inboxes

Since I did the latest software update on my 9810, my messages are no longer coming into my inboxes. I receive the notification at the top, but when I open the Messages, individual email accounts, or text messages, all inboxes show empty.
I searched the forums but couldn't find any other posts with this problem.

Javascript causing some pages to stop loading mid-way in Safari 3.04

I am having problems with Safari 3.04 which stops loading some pages mid -way when I have javascript enabled. I am running 10.4.11 tiger. I tried resetting safari and empty cache. I also ran Oxyx and cleared cache with it.
Is javascript a separate program that I could reload> Do I need to reload Safari? If so, how do I do that?

It would seem that Apple has messed up the javascript implementation in 10.4.11/3.0.4. I think it is more a 3.0.4 issue as there are a number of folks reporting crashes using 3.0.4 on leopard. Looks like us poor schmucks who are either to cheap or are not brave enough to be early adopters actually win. While the prize in this case is less than stellar is still beats a hard crash....

One would like to think that apple has enough common sense to post a thread indicating that
1) they acknowledge the problem.
2) they are working on it.
As it is they seem to be behaving more and more like microsnot with every patch they release. I guess if you don't have an iPod or iTV or god forbid an iPhone your $3K investment just doesn't count as much.

I have already copied my photographs to the a library manager but when I tried to reuse iphoto and import the photos back into iphoto, it would not let me.
You can't "copy" your photos to the "library manager", there is just no way to any such thing.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Try some basic troubleshooting.

My iMac won't stay connected to the internet, even though all other computers in my house stay connected, and its connection is set up the same way my fiance's macbook is (his macbook is about three years older than my iMac). Every time my computer goes into sleep mode and I come back (even if it's mere seconds after giving the black screen) I have no internet connection. I discovered a workaround for it some time ago, but now that is working less and less, and now my computer randomly disconnects WHILE I'm actively using the internet. Just a few minutes ago, the connection refused to come back until I restarted my computer, even though once again all other computers in the house were connected. The workaround I discovered before and which doesn't work as reliably now, is to click opne Airport at the top right of the screen, click "Open Network Preferences," then click "Assist me," then click "Diagnostics," and wait for everything to turn green again, signalling a connection.

Let's check the quality of your connection since signal strength alone does not insure a good connection. The "bars" that you see at the top of the iMac screen are there pretty much for show.
Hold down the option key on the iMac while you click on the Apple icon at the upper left corner of your screen and select System Profiler
Look down the list of items at the left of the window until you find the setting for Network, then click on AirPort.
In the window to the right, look for any listings of your wireless network name. You may possibly see two listings for the wireless network name.
We need for you to list the information that you see for Signal / Noise. These will be negative numbers. Post back with your findings and we will continue.
In the meantime, please move any cordless phones that you have or any other electronic devices that are near the iMac as far away as possible from the iMac.
If the iMac is located in a corner or an enclosed area, give it as much room as possible since the wireless antenna is on the back of the iMac and it needs to be able to "see" the room.
Anything that you can do to minimize the number of obstructions like walls or furniture etc between the iMac and the wireless router will help the cause as well.

2012 r2 file backup causes all VMs to go in to "backing up"

I'm using windows server backup on server 20012 r2, just doing a file backup of the hyper v VMs. When I do this, all of the child VMs go in to a "backing up" state for the entire backup. I'm still able to connect to each VM but they
run so slowly they're unusable. I have it set to do incremental backups, but sometimes it will still take hours to back up, which causes the child VMs to be basically locked up for hours. Is there any way to set it to only back up one VM at a time
rather than lock them all up throughout the backup process?

I can select each VM individually when doing the application backup (and they all show as being able to do an online backup) but I just back up the drive rather than the hyper-v vm.
I guess I'm curious if all this is to be expected behavior when doing a drive backup that includes the VM vhd files. Should all of them go in to a "backing up" state for the entire backup (and causing all VMs to run very poorly). This seems the
opposite of how it worked in 2k8 where I could schedule the backup for the drive that contained the VMs and still use each and every VM just fine during the backup.
Also I've noticed there's not really a way to stop the backups at all, I can try to stop the job but nothing ever happens, and i'm forced to do a hard reboot of the machine. It's acting like it's stuck making the shadow copies until the backup completes.
I've noticed this behavior on 2 different 2012 servers so this makes me think that this is expected behavior for doing a file backup on 2k8 VMs.

Is this server configured with a CSV volume for storing these VHDs ? I have seen that backups of VMs on a CSV will put entire VMs in backing up status.
Backing up status means that a snap shot is getting created while the backups are happening. A checkpoint is created of every virtual machine that is to be backed up. Writes are temporarily redirected to the checkpoint which gives the backup requester
a clean & crash consistent copy of the virtual machine’s VHD or VHDX files that are safe to read. The checkpoints are merged with the parent disk once the backup is finished.
I will also test this on my lab.

Cannot install ZEN V -- Setup.exe has stopped working -- CTCABEX.

I cannot install Creative Software for Zen V. Just before the installation finishes, I get the message: "setup.exe has stopped working. A problem with caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the file and notify you if a solution is available."
I also get the following message: CTX Installer-Install Shield Wizard that file CTCABEX.dll not found.
Any ideas on how I can load the creative Zen V software>

Unfortunately not as it is a quite dramatic change causing the metadata being refreshed. I would try to open though the package file in a text editor and find them before doing the change, then after you made the change to the FF connector try to reconstitute
/ replace the autimatically generated columns with the old names.

Firefox stops loading pages and hoses internet connection for all other apps

Running Firefox 3.6.3; XP sp3; FSecure Client Security 9
After using Firefox for a while - sometimes a few minutes, sometimes a few hours, it will stop loading pages. If I click on a link, nothing happens. The program still responds to key / mouse input, but refuses to load any new pages. Furthermore, it stops all internet connections from my machine, so that IE and Opera stop working. I think it also stops email, but I am not sure.
If I quit Firefox, the process is still running and I have to quit it manually from Task Manager. That solves the problem and internet connections are restored.
I have tried in safe mode, I have tried removing all extensions, I have tried deleting my profile and doing a clean re-install. It's driving me crazy. Any thoughts?

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, maybe after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox.

iTunes64Setup.exe, even after multiple times of uninstalling and reinstalling with even a fresh download crashes with the message:
"iTunes has stopped working. A problem [unspecified] caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you IF a solution is available." I cannot get out of this loop and it renders my iPad HD useless. I tried calling the Apple Store but was referred by an automated system to this web site. I tried looking up the problem in the FAQ but it didn't help.
