  • Cannot refresh table - test connection works fine but refresh gives "We couldn't refresh the connection. Please go to existing connections and verify they connect to the file or server." error.

I'm having some difficulty updating a table in my powerpivot data model. The data for the table is stored in a local excel file; if I go to
Existing Connections select the connection and do a test then everything is successful. When however I try to refresh that particular table I get the following error:
"We couldn’t refresh the connection. Please go to existing connections and verify they connect to the file or server."
In the past I had this and it was an authentication issue, the files are stored on SharePoint and I wasn't logged in to Sharepoint - I have however checked this and it can't be the issue because I have other tables linked to other excel files in the same
location that are refreshing without issue. Can anyone think of what may be causing it?
I have even tried creating a new local excel with the same data, added it to the data model and then tried a refresh and I I get exactly the same issue.
Are there any known issues with refreshing data from an Excel file if, after the initial import, you add columns to the table in the excel file I was wondering if this might contribute?
    Thanks

    Hi Maracles,
    Thanks for your post.
From your description, I tried to reproduce this issue on my test environment. However, everything is fine for me. Could you please post the specific version of SQL Server PowerPivot for Excel?
You can try to use a trace file to troubleshoot errors in PowerPivot. If this issue still persists, please try to reinstall SQL Server PowerPivot for Excel to see if this helps.

  • Connecting a wrt54g to an existing wireless network

    Hi,
I'm wondering if it's possible to create a second wireless network by connecting a wrt54g to our existing wireless network?
Our main router is upstairs, connection in the downstairs office is terrible, plus it's being used by a team that would like their own network anyways. Can I plug the wrt54g into the main router, assign it a static external IP and create a second wireless network?
    thanks

great thread toomanydoughnuts, thanks!  all the hours I spend googling for an answer are such a waste when I can post a specific question and a human being answers me back  :-)
I see that what I was trying to do is possible but before I start let me ask your opinion.
My initial goal for a seperate network was to give Router 2 a static external IP and connect our server to router 2 so external users would always be able to access it at the same address in case Router 1 ever had an IP change (I don't have constant access to router 1 and am not supposed to be fiddling with it!)
The secondary goal was to improve the wireless signal for those of us downstairs and I figure having Router 2 down there would provide a nice strong signal.
I have realized now that dyndns can solve my issue with Router 1's IP changing (even if it's once a month it's an issue for remote users accessing our server). Dyndns will re-point our host name to the new IP if it ever changes.
But I still have the issue of a very weak signal in the downstairs office.
Because I'm seeking the simplest, easiest to manage solution as I'm far from a network guru, do you think a better option may be to get a repeater or something like that for our downstairs office to just boost the signal from Router 1? If so, any recommendations?
thanks in advance for your time
Oh, and if I did go the route of setting up Router 2, could I give Router 2 a static external IP address?

I have just brought 2 mini's for my boys for xmas.  1. can I connect them both to my existing Itunes account or do I need to set up something different. and 2. can they be used on their dads account as well as mine, or only one?

You can set them up with your Apple ID if you want to. You can also set them up with their dad's Apple ID. Depending on how old the boys are, you can even let then have their own Apple ID's. The one thing that you don't want to do is have them use more than one Apple ID on their iPads.
If you want to be able to share purchased content, then setting them up with either your ID or your husband's (?) ID would be the way to go. If the boys share an ID with one of you, they can download content that you have already purchased without having to pay for it again.
If you and have the financial wherewithal to allow them to purchase their own individual content, I would recommend letting them have their own Apple ID. This way, as they grow older and eventually move on, they will have their own accounts, their own purchases .... No ties needed to your ID or to dad's ID. FaceTime and Messages will be a little easier to set up if they have their own ID's and they can have their own iCloud accounts as well. However, they must be 13 years old in order to have an Apple ID and iTunes account. If they are under 13, then it's a no brainer you will have to use yours or their father's ID.
Whatever you decide to do, just don't switch from one ID to another ID on the iPads. That gets confusing and they could end up locking themselves out of one of the ID's for 90 days if they download a past purchase using a different ID.

  • WRT54GC config to connect a wired-printer on existing wireless network

    Hello everyone,
I hope someone can help me with the following issue :
    - I have an existing wireless network at home, set up with a wireless router/dsl connection
    - I now have been given a wired-printer, and I'd like to connect my printer to the existing wireless network, using a WRT54GC device.
I have been trying for a while, and I believe but can't manage to configure the device do this, and didn't find this in the forum yet.
As anyone already done this successfully ?
    Thank you

What is the make and model of your printer?  What type of connections does it have -- ethernet port?   USB port?  Parallel port?
If your printer has an ethernet port, you can wire it directly to your router.
If your printer has only a USB port, you will need a printer server such as the Linksys WPS54G, WPSM54G.    These devices will allow you to use the printer as a wired or wireless printer.  Both of these devices support USB 1.1 and USB 2.0
I do not recommend the Linksys PSUS4 (wired print server with 4 port switch), because it only supports USB 1.1

  • Connecting two wrt150n version 1.1 routers to each other and a Siemens SX 551 router

This SX 551 has 4 UTP outputs. I have a digital video receiver connected to one of these outputs by means of an UTP  cable. I want to replace this UTP cable bya wireless link. I have two wrt150n's to do the job.
I connect one wrt150n via an UTP to the SX551.
First question: should this be done by normal UTP, cross over or does it not matter
Second question: how should I choose the paremeters of both wrt150' s such as: which mode, IP adresses.
I am building a bridge between two IP network although one is very smal, just adigital video receiver.
Right now i am using two labtops to control the two routers. once the wireless link works the labtops are removed.
    Yours sincerely,
    HansH

It won't work. At one end you can use a WRT150N as access point to broadcast signal, but atleast at other end you need a wireless bridge like WET54G, or a access point(wap54g) set in AP client mmode. Its better if you get both sides WET54G or WAP54G

  • WPC300N lost connection to WRT150N after router firmware update

This is my second WRT150N in a week: out of the box it worked great, and then I updated the firmware to 1.01.9 (which is basically the same) and now my laptop WPC300N adapter can't connect to the WRT150N router! Anyone know how I can fix this? Set up: DSL modem connected to WRT150N WRT150N connected to desktop by wire. Laptop with WPC300N connect to router wirelessly. Thanks!

Yes I did updates on both router and adapter, but the original firmware on the router was basically the same as the one posted on Linksys web site (which I downloaded and used to updated it). On the first router that I bought, I followed the CD instructions and did the firmware update right away, and ran into the exact same problem. I did not have a chance to test to see if would work out-of-the-box. Now, the adapter just sits there with the "Act" light blinking regularly.

  • Connecting a WRT150N (wireless) into a BEFSR41V3 (wired)

I have an existing wired BEFSR41V3 router with 4 used ports.  This router in located in the basement near the modem.
I also have 2 portable computer with wireless cards, and bought a new WRT150N router (wireless).  In order to get the maximum range from the new router, I want to install the WRT150N on the ground floor, where I have 2 wired point.
Can I keep the BEFSR41 as existing and use the 4th point as a bridge been the 2 router?  I would endup with a cascading network:
    Modem connected to BEFSR41
BEFSR41 connected to 3 points and the WRT150N
If I do this I may need to change the IP address of one router to avoid conflicting IP addresses.

I Have Had to do this aswell,
what i did is have my first router(linksys wrt54g) Ip address set to 192.168.2.1
and my second router(linksys wrt150n) IP set to 10.0.2.1
ad it is working fine for me so im guessing this will work fine for you.
    Thanks

  • Connecting Wireless N Router to Existing Fios Router for NAS Access

    What I'm Trying To Do:
I have a 1TB Western Digital MyBook Live as my new NAS for accessing music, photos, video.  Accessing this data through the Actiontec MI424WR Wireless 802.11b/g is not the best performance.  I want to add in a wireless-N router to the mix but know I have to keep my existing Fios Router in the mix.
Understanding that the Gigabit part of a wireless-N Gigabit router is for the wired speed increase, do I need to get a gigabit router for when I plug in my NAS, or does that not make a difference.
Basically, I know that the wireless-N will get me better access wirelessly, but will connecting the NAS via Gigabit give me an extra boost as well?
According to most posts, getting a wireless-N router directly from Fios is near impossible, so bridging a new router to the existing one seems like the best bet.
Thanks for any help anyone has.

I bridged an N router to my MI424WR,which is also an N router and really did not notice a big performance jump,i am satisfied with the MI424WR.even though my linskys N router is more expensive.

  • Couldn't connect new time capsule to existing wifi

    Hi everyone,
I need some help setting up my Time Capsule. I bought the latest model (2013) and received it today. I have an existing ATT U verse modem/router that creates 2WIRExxx connection and I am trying to connect to this network wirelessly from time capsule so that I can put it in different room.
Somehow when I select "Wireless" tab and choose "Extend a wireless network" it doesnt show my current wifi SSID in dropdown, although its just near by without any interference. When I connect it thru ethernet cable it works perfectly fine.
I also tried giving the SSID name and password, but while connecting it says your TC is set to connect to a network that cannot be found, please ensure it is in range and have good signal.
My Airport utility version is 6.3 (630.34) and time capsule version is 7.7.
Please help me setting up my TC.
    Thanks,
    Shantanu

    Thanks for your answer.
I agree that its not the best way to setup the TC as an extension (Bridge Mode) to existing wireless, but here is what I want to achieve and if you have a better idea for me, please let me know.
My ATT Modem and Router is one device and cannot be seperated.
I want to use TC as following:
    1. Backing up my data using Time Capsule (Regular Wireless Backup)
    2. setup as NAS for other USB HDDs I have.
    3. Use as a print server for my printer setup in my office.
My current ATT modem+Router is in different room and cannot be setup in my office so I have no choice but to use TC as in Bridge Mode and connect wirelessly to main router to support all above tasks as they cannot be achieved with ATT modem+Router(It doesnt have USB support).
The problem I am facing is that TC is not able to find the wifi signal (I dont know why). It didnt do even when I tried to set it up first time. I do not think it wouldn't support non apple wireless extension, there must be a very good reason for not doing that. But when connected with wire to existing router (LAN Port not WAN/Modem), it works perfectly fine.
    Thanks,
    Shantanu

  • Generic Connectivity - can't name an existing column in a query

I set up my Oracle 8.1.6 database server to support an ODBC connection
( using MERANT DataDirect Connect ODBC 3.70)
to an external MSSQLServer. The connection works but I have the following problem:
    select * from KUAF@hsodbc; --> works fine
select name from KUAF@hsodbc; --> returns ORA-00904 ( invalid column ), but column exists
select USERNAME from all_users@hsodbc --> works fine
In the second case I never got any entry in my trace file so I assume that a local parse is responsible for that behaviour.
Is there anyone who can give me a hint what's going wrong? Do I have to make some further configuration settings?

Put double quotes around the column name-seems to work

  • Troubled Connection with WRT150N Router

I  have purchased a WRT150N Linksys wireless router. I am able to connect to it most of the time, however, it loses connection MANY times. The connection seems unstable, because it can never stay connected for an extended period of time. Is there any way to stabalize the connection?

I have the exact same problem. It loses connection after about an hour. It's doing this right out of the box.
Also, I have logs enabled but they do not seem to work. They are all blank with the exception of the DHCP Client log, which reads:

  • Cannot connect to wrt150N - no files to download for Firmware?

I have a wrt150N that I am trying to determine whether it's dead or not.  I cannot connect to it directly, even if I plug my laptop directly into the Router.  Pressing the Reset button does nothing, the lights don't even flash?
If I change my Ethernet cable it does represent which port I'm using but I can't ping 192.168.1.1 either?  I want to try and flash the bios but A: there's no file to download for this model and B: I presume I need to be able to connect in order to do the flash?
Can anyone help ,me determine a way to run diagnostics on this thing?
    thx

    Hi,
Try using a paper clip and hold the reset the button for 1 minute. Then unplug/replug the power cord.
Make sure that the pc is working when connected straight to the modem.
