Connection - ADSL

My line settings are as follows is this good or bad & should I do something about it?
Line state: Connected
Connection time: 1 days, 01:31:52
Downstream: 1,536 Kbps
Upstream: 448 Kbps
VPI/VCI: 0/38
Type: PPPoA
Modulation: G.992.1 Annex A
Latency type: Interleaved
Noise margin (Down/Up): 14.0 dB / 22.0 dB
Line attenuation (Down/Up): 55.8 dB / 30.0 dB
Output power (Down/Up): 2.5 dBm / 1.6 dBm
FEC Errors (Down/Up): 2398 / 68
CRC Errors (Down/Up): 1368 / 88
HEC Errors (Down/Up): 8516 / 84
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 173 / 60

I would expect you down sync to improve if connected to the test socket and left to settle.  This site shows possible speed for you attenuation based on a good line http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/max_speed_calc.php   you can also try a quiet line test by dialling 17070 and select option 2 - you should hear 'nothing'  can you run btspeedtester and post the results

    Hi Theo,
There are several ways to implement this using simple timing features of LabVIEW.  Two fairly simple methods are comparing system time stamps or using the Wait VI provided in the Timing palette.  The time stamp comparison requires a little bit more programming, but can be included in your main program loop.  To use the Wait function, you will probably need to construct a new loop parallel to your main loop.  I have attached screenshots of these two implementations.  Please let me know if you have any more questions.

So whats the solution then? I cant see the solution as I have the EXACT same problem right now. The folk in India reckoned the Hub was faulty (but then again they said they would send a replacement 3.0 Hub which didnt arrive. when I complained two reconditioned Hubs which were 2.0's arrived via different carriers like the preverbial buses!) so I dont trust them one little bit> However, it seems the folk on here seem to know their onions. Please help me as its screwing with our businesses now!
    Many thanks

I have moved your posts to start your own subject
welcome to the BT community forum where customers help customers and only BT employees are the forum mods
in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or use a-z, if netgear enter 192.168.0.1) and run  btspeedtester  (MAC users may have problems). when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post the results .
are you connected directly via a filter to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

  • Cannot connect adsl using rp-pppoe and ppd

Anyone is successful in running pppoe under solaris 8 ?
I tried hard and complied pppd,rp-pppe using gcc at last,
everything is fine until I try to connect using adsl-start, it just "timeout" without success.
I 'm using a realtek chipset based NIC using its beta driver in its web site, the driver seems to be ok as I can ping other machine, the catch is I have to ping those machines first before they can ping my system.
    Please comment everyone

Solaris was never intended for home usage. It is an industrial strength UNIX SVR4 operating system. It is probably one of the most scalable operating systems out there and as such Microsoft can't compete there. Granted it may not be the prettiest operating system anybody could use, but that really doesn't matter because it was never designed to be a Wintendo with mailers that graciously accept all kinds of virii and so forth. Solaris has its problems, but what operating system doesn't?
Sun doesn't assume that its users are experts. But then again that is a matter of degree. You're probably a Windows expert in comparison to me. =)
You should install Solaris and play with it. Lots of places use Solaris every day and even if you don't end up working as a system admin with Solaris, you are still learning something new. To me that is very important.
If you can't install it, you obviously can't learn much about it. What types of installation problems are you having? Why don't you post those and I'll promise I'll give it a shot trying to help you out.
It's a free country and you're free to choose any operating system you want. If you want Windows XP, you should use that. Myself, I use various UNICES because I find them to be easier to administer and much more comprehensive. I can give you an example... I work with sendmail a lot and I curse over that LookOut mailer all the time. Not once have I seen it give a decent error message actually telling me what's going on. I end up having to go through logs to figure out what is happening and then fix the problem. It isn't a huge issue, but a major inconvenience. Just about every other mailer out there can give the user an error message that they can relay to their support staff. Right now there are Windows 2000 machines on the network at work. It is virtually impossible to get them to play nice with Solaris. Why? Because Microsoft wants me to use their stuff so they make incompatible. That doesn't impress me at all, so I am actually trying to migrate more clients TO Solaris than from Solaris.
I wish you well with your endeavors to install Solaris and learn a new operating system.

  • Cisco ASA 5505 - 2 PPPoE connection

    Hi,
Please I would be very pleased if someone could give me a hand in this matter.
I have a Cisco ASA 5505 9.0(2), 2 dial-up connection (ADSL) with fix IP from the same ISP. I have 2 Linksys router (each dial-up has a router) as well. Both Linksys are connected directly to ASA configured in bridge mode.
I set up one dial-up on interface called “outside” with PPPoE configuration which is, in fact, up and running. I’m able to get my fix public IP.
My problem come from when I try to set up the second dial-up on interface called “outside-other”. I configure properly all PPPoE parameters however I’m not able to get my second fix public IP. Somehow, it’s not able to establish a connection with the ISP. (PPPoE session has not been established yet)
This could be useful information: the PPPoE Username is the same in both dial-up connection (given by my ISP).
I hope someone can shed light on this issue.
    Thanks in advance,
Apologies for my lack of awareness.
    Antonio

    Hi,
    This is my schema:
connection A ( interface outside) --> DSL --> Router Linksys mode bridge --> Cisco ASA , up and running with IP fix.
    connection B ( interface outside-other) --> DSL --> Router Linksys mode bridge --> Cisco ASA, down : Status PADR_SENT
I tried to use two different VPDN_groups for the two connections A and B. However, B is still not working. Just one of them is able to get IP from ISP, connection A.
When I set up the Linksys router (connection B) in PPPoE, the connection works and get an IP fix from ISP.
What I want to do is set up a VPN on connection B so I need to configure this second dial-up on Cisco ASA. I cannot use connection A due to security reasons.
    Thanks

  • Connection problems with D-LINK 300t (NOT using AE)

    Hi all,
I bought the D-LINK 300t modem from apple and am having problems connecting it.
I follow through the onscreen gui set up procedure, and that's all fine - the status tells me I'm connected, no problems. Network Connections and Network Diagnostics also tells me that I'm connected to the internet and that seemingly there are no problems.
However, I cannot access any web pages at all. It just times out with Safari giving me the message that I'm not connected to the internet.
I tried connecting the modem to my old G4 iMac and that didn't work either.
I'm not using AE or any other wireless product, just connecting ADSL in and ethernet out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks

Still not having any joy with this ... I've bought a new modem/router and that is giving me the same problems. My Network Diagnostics is saying that I'm connected to the internet, but I can't open any web pages.
The modem is saying that I'm connected.
I just don't know what is wrong, or what to do next. The 'assist' button is not helping, nor is 'Network Diagnostics'. I feel like I'm missing something obvious but I just can't see it.
If anyone can help me, I'd really appreciate it!
    Thanks.

  • Connection drops on a daily basis / Varying (low) ...

People probably know the drill by now, everything is fine then suddenly they go through a period where they receive barely a 10th of their paid connection speed, with their connection dropping completely at least once per day.
This all started happening when BT somehow increased our connection speed from 8Mbps to 21Mbps and also increased our upload from about 250kbps to 1Mbps which happened a couple months ago now. This was great! Everything was working fine, no drops in the connection or speed and it seemed like they had given us a nice boost for free.
That is, until things started going wrong about a month later when our connection would frequently drop, the connection speed would often fall to below 1Mbps and this is still happening.
With regards to solving this problem myself, I don't see how anything could be interfering with the setup I currently have, as nothing has changed within the house itself. Before I ring up an Indian/ Chinese/ Scottish/ Martian call center, I'd like to try and get some feedback from the users on this forum.
I'm going to buy some new ADSL filters just to see if the ones I'm currently using are packing up (they're cheap so that is no problem if nothing changes).
I have run quite a few speedtests using the recommended btspeedtester and have had varying results, all of which barely, if at all, meeting the acceptable range of speed for my line. Here is my most recent test:
Download speedachieved during the test was - 4563 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 4000-21000 Kbps.

  • High Packet Loss, High Ping and Slow Connection Ov...

    Hi There,
I have been a customer with the BT unlimited broadband package for a little under two years and up until recently have had no real issues with the service. This was until around 3/4 weeks ago I noticed that the internet was very slow and certain online games or applications like Netflix would lose all of its quality or stop completely. At first I thought nothing of it and simply reset my BT Home hub router, and sure enough everything was back to normal. However after around 2-3 hours of moderate use (gaming online or watching Netflix) the problem surfaced again.
Now I am lucky if I can get the entire way through a 40 minute TV episode before the quality drops and/or the service requires buffering. I have already contacted BT via the helpline and the service lady ran through the obligatory steps (turn off, wait 5 minutes, reset the home hub etc.) but she failed to understand that although rebooting the home hub does alleviate the problem initially, the symptoms of a slow connection, high packet loss and high ping always return within an hour.
Four the last couple of weeks I have been trying to investigate the problem myself and I have done the following things:
Tested the line using the master socket (no difference)
Opened the ports on my firewall within the home hub (no difference)
Directly wired in the computer instead of relying on the wifi (no difference)
Tested for interference from neighbours wifi using inSSIDider office (it wasn’t, operating on different channels)
Switched every device that requires internet off apart from the PC (no difference)
So with all that in mind I am fairly confident that it is nothing within my house that has caused a significant reduction in internet quality.
Now I have tried my best to display the problem I am having by recording the connection quality for the last 24 hours. The table below represents the condition and quality of the connection after leaving it a period of time without resetting:
    ADSL Line Status
    Connection Information

And here is a result of the ping and packet loss during this time:
Now I immediately reset the home hub after running that test and ran the test again. These are the results I a achieved within 2 minutes of internet connectivity:

I have also checked if the bell wire was attached and it is not. My socket is of the new type with the inclusion of an inductor on the faceplate. My ADSL filters and modem cable already have the middle connecting pins removed so I don’t think it is a wiring problem, at least in my apartment anyway. I have also searched for problems with the exchange and they are showing green for my area. (Liverpool Central)
I have just rang the quiet line and I do not appear to have any noise on the line. However, all I have is a cordless phone and I know that is not ideal for determining noise due to the radio frequency interfering with the phone speaker.
Again thank you for you time on this issue.

  • WRVS4400Nv2 problem connect PPPoE

    Hi,
I have buy an new wireless router WRVS4400Nv2 and upgrade the firmware to version 2.0.0.8.
I have the problem that this router not connect to my ADSL modem with PPPoE settings.
I borrow another three router from my friend one Netgear WGR614 and one Linksys WRT54G and one Allied Telesyn AT-AR220E all three work fine with the same setting for PPPoE, but the WRVS4400Nv2 not work.
I try to set it to Automatic Configuration - DHCP and they found the modem with this set:

  • More then one VPN connection?

I made a good start using VPN.
But when I try to create additional VPN connections.
But the links already established, interrupted.
So i can online have one VPN established...
How do i set the server up, so that i can have more?

    Hi There
I have this exact same problem on L2TP VPN on Lion Server 10.7.3 and earlier (I've yet to try 10.7.4 - what version are you using?) What I've found is you can't have more than on client from the same IP so say if I connect to our VPN via an Internet connection if someone else connects on the same Internet connection they knock me off. But multiple connections are possible from different Internet connections at the same time. So I can have my laptop connected via my home Internet connection (adsl) and connect at the same time from my iPad on 3G but if I use my Laptop and iPad on the same home internet (adsl) whichever connects 1st knocks the other off - hope this makes sense.
It drives me mad as myself and another employee share the same internet connection (adsl) for a few weeks of the year there is no 3G signal. On our old 10.4 server via PPTP we could have as many VPN connections as we wanted (never went higher than about 5 at a time) from the same internet connection. Not sure if this is a limitation of L2TP or Lion Server have still not managed to get PPPTP to work on Lion server. Going to give 10.7.4 a go 1st when I'm feeling brave...

  • Connection lost, sort of....

Hello! Wonder if I can pick a few brains; my connection started playing up yesterday evening. My PC tells me "no internet connection", all the lights are still on the HH2, try to got to any webpage and usually get "server timed out". Connection is restored by resetting hub (88.2% profile thank god) and all is well for about 30-60 minutes then it happens again.
Quiet line test is quiet, filters, etc. are fine, noise margin looks fine; only thing I have noticed is FEC errors going mental (is this still a bug?) and my last speedtest result had a slightly lower throughput than the one an hour before (5.0 down to 3.8)
I'll chuck some stats up, if an expert would be kind enough to take a look..

  • Paying for BT Infinity but still getting ADSL conn...

Since I've upgraded to BT Infinity from Total  Broadband, there has been no change in connection or download speeds (even when ethernet cable is plugged in) - now I know why. I am clearly not connected to BT Infinity. I'll tell you how I know. Today my internet went down. I clicked on BT Desktop Help who said I wasn't connected and sent me to the BT Home Hub Manager page:
    http://bthomehub.home/index.cgi?active_page=9142&active_page_str=page_interception&req_mode=0&mimic_...
Just in case link doesn't work, the basic 'wordage' is below:
    Can’t connect to Broadband
    ADSL or Ethernet
To help us diagnose the problem please select the
type of Broadband connection you have.
                  -----  ADSL connection
                        "ADSL Connection"
                  -----  BT Infinity Connection
                        "I connect to Openreach
                        equipment and it plugs
                        into the BT Infinity port
                        on my BT Home Hub."
Naturally, I clicked on 'BT Infinity Connection'. I tried several times as it was 'trying to connect'. I waited up to half an hour each time to no avail. NB - I was told 'this will take a few minutes' each time.
Just out of curiousity, I clicked on 'ADSL connection' --- it connected to the internet straight away!
I conclude that I am NOT connected to "Openreach equipment that plugs into the BT Infinity port on my BT Home Hub". (BT Home Hub 3 that is!).
It looks like I haven't been upgraded at all.
I'm paying for BT Infinity, so why am I not getting it??

Sorry, just to clarify you have the white modem from Dave's picture?
But the Red cable is going to the ADSL port on the HomeHub 3 and not the Infinity port? If so try putting it into the Infinity port and see if you can connect (I'm guessing it will be no). If that doesn't work just switch it back then contact the moderators.

The WAN connection (ADSL) seems to be ok, we`ve tested another client with vpn connection and this is running well.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks, Florian

So when you were doing your testing, you had a client connect throught the OfficeExtend and another client connect via VPN, in which the VPN client never experienced a drop in its citrix connection.
Did you enable persistent connection in citrix? This will allow the end connection to loose connectivity but still keep their session alive until they are able to connect again.
What code are you running in the wlc?

  • Installation problem - Oracle 11gR2 Windows XP Professional SP 2

    Hello everybody!
I have a problem at the installation moment of Oracle 11g R2 on Windows XP Professional Edition with SP 2. Please help me!
This is my computer's hardware configuration:
    CPU Intel Pentium 4 3.00 Ghz x86
    RAM: 1 GB
    Hard disk: SATA 180 GB
    Graphic Card: PCI-Express nVidia 7300GS 256 MB
Network connection: LAN / Internet connection: ADSL
O.S. Windows XP Professional Edition SP 2 (and installed .Net framework 2.0)
    Antivirus: AVG 9.0 free edition
WEB Browser: Internet Explorer / Mozilla Firefox.
I tried to Install Oracle 11g R2 2 times, so I have formatted my computer 2 times because after the installation process, the Oracle Universal Installer don't respond.
Every time I installed the O.S., drivers, Antivirus, .Net Framework, Ms office, everything works properly.
I configured the network connection to use a fixed IP Address, I created the environment variables ORACLE_BASE, ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID and ORACLE_UNQNAME (1st time its value was the same value of ORACLE_SID, 2nd time its value was the database global name) and then, I start the SETUP program, it run properly, but at the moment of finish the database creation this message appears: execute the commands: 1) define ORACLE_UNQNAME in database unique name 2) emctl.bat start dbconsole.
Through SQL Plus I can connect to the database, execute queries, the listener is working, but the database console service doesn't work. If I try to start it since command prompt (emctl start dbconsole) I get a message about the specific error 2.
    What can I do??
    Thanks in advance!

Good morning! I hope you are fine.
    I appreciate your help.
Jean-Valentin: I opened a DOS box (logged as the Administrator User who installed Oracle), I changed the ORACLE_SID value and the result of the commands:
    set ORACLE_SID=MGN
    emctl stop dbconsole
    emctl start dbconsole
    emctl status dbconsole
    was this one:
    C:\Oracle_base\Home_ODB11gR2_Aug1st2010\BIN>emctl stop dbconsole
OC4J Configuration issue. C:\Oracle_base\Home_ODB11gR2_Aug1st2010/oc4j/j2ee/OC4J_DBConsole_oraserver11_MGN not found.
Definitively, change the value of ORACLE_SID is not right. Then, I changed the ORACLE_SID again to its original value and the result was:
    C:\Oracle_base\Home_ODB11gR2_Aug1st2010\BIN>emctl stop dbconsole

Using the ORACLE_SID original name, at least the emctl shows the OracleDBConsoleMGN as not started when I try to stop.
schavali: When I executed the Oracle Installation, the database configuration assistant showed this message:
The Enterprise Manager configuration was success with this warning: Error at start up database control, execute the commands: and you know, here start our history.
And the 3 steps of the database configuration assistant shows this:
Copying database files : Success (correct mark)

Finishing database creation: Success (correct mark)
I'll try to check the information of the link: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B16240_01/doc/em.102/e10954/structure.htm#CACBBFGI

  • Problem with D-link DFE 520 TX NIC.

    Hi,
I got a internet connection (ADSL) recently.
I can browse using Windows, but I cannot browse using Solaris 10 x86
    (6/06).
    I have a Gigabyte 8LD 533 Motherboard with 512 MB RAM, a D-link 520
TX ( I did not have much options. Rest were either D-link cards that
    didnt look like they were
supported by Solaris at all, or other cards that were way too
expensive) and dual boot Windows XP SP2 and Solaris 10 x86 (6/06).
I googled a bit and found that Realtec drivers seem to work for some D-
link NICs so downloaded the RTLS211.zip file and unzipped the file.
This file created rtls (which is
32 bit executable), rtls.conf, Install (Installation script file) and
the read me file for Solaris.Followed the instructions and added
    "pci1186,1405" in the Install file.
Then rebooted Solaris. Got the following message:
    Notice:
    RTLS: version 2.1.1 (640909)
RTLS Attach: Vendor ID: : 0x1106 Device ID: : 0x3106.

Method "/lib/svc/method/net-physical" failed with exit status 96.
[network/physical.default misconfigured.  (see svcs -x for details).
However, ifconfig -a shows rtls0 with the correct MAC Address of the
NIC, but IP Address was set to 0.0.0.0.
( I hope I followed the readme file correctly, cause the first time I
tried it, it said it could not attach a driver to it, but the next
time when I tried it using the IDs after
doublechecking the output of prtconf and then ran the install file, it
said it had installed the driver).
Hence tried manually setting the IP Address using the following
    command
ipconfig rtls0 (I used the same IP Address which was shown by
executing a ipconfig command in Windows XP).
Trying ipconfig -a again,  it had taken the IP Address, the broadcast
IP Address too had been assigned automatically, yet I could not ping.
So googled again by typing the error message in search field and after
    that did the following:
Updated the hosts file and the ipnodes file as shown:
    hosts file
    # Internet host table
    127.0.0.1       localhost       loghost ugrankar
    192.168.1.100   rtls0          loghost ugrankar
    ipnodes file:
    # Internet host table
::1    localhost       loghost ugrankar    127.0.0.1   localhost       loghost
    ugrankar
    ::2   rtls0              loghost ugrankar    192.168.1.100
    rtls0           loghost ugrankar
Then ran the command svcadm clear network/physical.
    Still no go.
Am I doing something wrong here? May be a very basic mistake? This is
my first time trying to get online with Solaris 10. Please let me
    know.
Also see below some more files that might make things clearer.
Here is how my Install file looks:
    #!/bin/sh
    basedir="/"
    drvname=rtls
    drvconf=rtls.conf
    set -x
    # install driver
    cp rtls ${basedir}/kernel/drv/${drvname}
    cp rtls.conf ${basedir}/kernel/drv/${drvconf}
    chmod 755 ${basedir}/kernel/drv/${drvname}
    chown root:sys ${basedir}/kernel/drv/${drvname}
    # update
    # /etc/driver_aliases
    # /etc/name_to_major
    # grep "^${drvname}\>" /etc/name_to_major > /dev/null 2>&1 \
    && rem_drv -b ${basedir} ${drvname}
    #add_drv -v -b ${basedir} -i '"pci1186,1301" "pci10ec,8139"' $
    {drvname}
    add_drv -v -i '"pci1186,1405" "pci10ec,8139" "pci1113,1211"' $
    {drvname}
    exit 0
And this is how my rtls.conf file looks:
#Driver.conf file for the RealTek 8139 chip
    # Copyright 2004 Sun Microsystems, Inc. All rights reserved.
    # Use is subject to license terms.

Is this happening because there is no driver for D-link DFE 520 TX on
    Solaris 10?
Googled once again and found out the following link:
    http://opensolaris.org/os/community/device_drivers/files/vfe.iso.tgz
Followed the instructions, but even that does not work.
    Please let me know.
Sorry for such a long post.
