Connection after 10.5.2 update

Since Tuesday whenever I put my new Imac to sleep, when it wakes it can no longer find my wireless router. I have to do a Restart and then it works. I've read many emails about this, saying reset the router, I tried that but it resets to the D Link defaults. All the while it says my WEP number isn't right... even though it is. It recognises it when I switch on, but not after sleep.
However last week I installed XP on Bootcamp and on the Windows partition, it goes on standby and then wakes up and is connected... so to me this means it is not a problem with the router at all it is to do with the update.
I never thought I would be actually glad I have XP on my iMac, especially so soon. Being new to Mac and delighted with it until Tuesday, can someone tell me if it takes Apple a long while to sort out this problem which seems to be effecting loads of users.
Cynthia

Hello,
this is a "me too!" reply.
After a certain time during normal usage and always after a wakeup my Airport disables itself completely. It does not come back through the menu bar item or the Network System Preferences. Only way to get it back is to restart.
I don't have Parallels, but VMWare Fusion 1.1.1. Could well be that there is a correlation with the installed network kexts.
I'm connecting to an AVM Fritzbox that has 802.11b+g activated with a personal WPA key. SSID is invisible.
Most annoying. Anyone else?

  • IMac drops Wifi connection after 10.7.4 update

    Hello there,
I am experiencing intermittent wifi connection problems after installing the 10.7.4 update on my 2011 iMac 27".
The symption is that the iMac drop its Wifi connection after a period of time and when that happens the iMac cannot detect any wifi networks in my area (disabling & re-enabling Wifi on the iMac doesn't help). I have to resort to restarting the iMac to revive the wifi interface. Note that my other devices (including my iPhone and my MacBook Air) can connect to my Airport Extreme without any problems.
Is there any "quick-fix" solutions out there that can fix this problem? I want to avoid a complete re-install as much as possible.

    Possible short term fix:
Same issue. Mid 2011 iMac. Updated to 10.7.4 and wifi dropped. The iMac could see any SSID until it was rebooted. My MacBook Air, iPad and iPhone all fine.
I went to Apple tech support and like others was faced with a slippery resistance to the idea that this was anything to do with 10.7.4.
Eventually it was suggested I reinstalled Mac OS (switch off, switch on with cmd and R keys held down. Then follow the process. I wasn't hopeful but was compliant. Imagine my joy when, on coming back to me my iMac asked if I wanted to update to 10.7.4. Of course not!
So reinstalling Mac OS takes you back to 10.7.3. So far so good. Will keep you posted.
Still hoping fpr a proper fix from Apple but they don't seem to be taking seriously
in contrast just updated Omin Group's Omniplan (BTW this is great software for the Mac, check out their offering if you haven't). The update notes:
"It seems as if our fix to the Task: Schedule Inspector in 2.1.1 actually caused more widespread crashes. We've rewritten this code in a more robust fashion and have not seen this problem reappear"
Owning and fixing the problem - Apple guys please take note!

  • Wireless Connection after 10.4.8 Update

I want to try and update again to 10.4.8. Has the wireless connection issue been resolved yet? The problem I was having before was when my mac went into sleep mode or I would reboot the wireless connection would be dropped. I tried just about everything I found on this board, but nothing worked. I had to archive and restore my mac back to 10.4.4. Is it safe to update, if not is there a fix for after I update?
    Any help would be great!.

If I had an IntelMac I'd wait, or certainly not go past 10.4.7, and at that I'd surely use the bigger Combo Updates, not any of the Deltas.
Yet if I did try 10.4.8... it'd be installed on a seperate FW drive for testing... without messing with the working install.
All that being said... I still am at 10.3.9 or less on all my important work machines... only have Tiger on 2 machines to help sort out/test all the 10.4 problems!

  • Problems with Wireless connection AFTER 10.4.2 update

I have read several topics on wireless problems AFTER the 10.4.2 update and wondering if anyone (or Apple) has found a fix to this problem. I cant get to my network or the internet via airport. I have tried zapping the pram, resetting the permissions, rebooting, checking for more update on a wired connection, reinstalling both 10.4.2 combo and 4.2 update and still nothing. This happened RIGHT after the reboot upon completion of the update. Im stuck and wondering if anyone has a solution or has any one SUCCESSFULLY contacted Apple and have they got a solution to fix the problem??

I'm having the same problems with accessing my airport base station (first generation snow at 4.0.9) after loading the airport admin 4.2 patch. I loaded the 4.2 patch on my g5 and G4 running 10.3.9. The response/across of the wifi connection is very poor. I can't use chicken of the VNC to manage the G4 from the G5 anymore at all due to the slow response and accessing the internet via either the G4 or the G5 is like a dial up connection. The broadband speed test results are 192mb to 274mb up and similar down.
I have a 12"powerbook (DVI 1gig version) with 10.3.9 that I have not loaded the 4.2 patch on and I am not having any issues with wifi access to the base station or the internet. broadband logs in right at 2.8mb via DSL. I also have a Dell laptop that I access the internet through the airport base station and I have no issues with speed and the same 2.8mb broadband speed test results.
Conclusion something in the airport 4.2 patch has changed the airport cards ability to see the base station.
With all that said, my question is - How do I back out of the 4.2 airport admin patch provided by apple or how do I resolve the slow response times between the airport cards in the G4 and G5 and the base station?
    Any help?

  • Funky Internet connection after 10.4.9 update

I hope someone can help me out with this one...
Over the weekend, I installed the 10.4.9 update and have since noticed a few funky things going on. The internet connection is delayed somehow. I can connect, and it usually loads the first part of a page fairly quickly, it seems to "hang" a bit loading the rest of the page. Sometimes, the browser wont even load a page and times out, and sometimes it just takes a REALLY long time to load, especially when using any kind of form or other than static content. I have a fast cable internet connection, and I have not had any problems with the connection before this weekend.
I also noticed a few other things that make me wonder if it is an update issue and not a hardware issue. The Network icon on the finder has gone missing. This was always present right above the hard drive icon and now its nowhere to be found. The eject button on the keyboard no longer works and I have to use iTunes eject button to get the tray to eject. I noticed that a lot of my email accounts have been asking for the passwords to the accounts whenever I check my mail as if it cant find them. Even when I put them in, it will come back later and ask again. Somehow it isnt storing them correctly or saving them or something.
I do have a powerbook G4 and I have noticed the same issues on it after installing the update.
Here is what I have done so far:
Run disk utility to verify permissions
Run disk utility from startup disk and did repair disk and repair permissions
When I did this on the powerbook as well, I noticed that when repairing permissions, it came up with permissions errors for something like OS/internet/.... something or other. Which makes me think the update screwed up something with the internet/network connection.
How can I test this further to figure out what is causing the problem, and does anyone have an idea of how I can get everything back to "normal".
Thanks for your help in advance!
    Chad
    PowerMac G5 1.8 SP   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   1.5 Gig Ram

    Oh, that.
I have done that several times.
I thought maybe there was something more I was supposed to be doing.
I had my cable connection checked out yesterday, and they said my connection was fantastic, better than anyone around us.
It must be something else causing the slowdown. I know macs dont get viruses, but... is there any way to check this out or to see if someone else is hijacking my computer or bandwidth? Is that even possible?
    thanks!

  • No printers or Local Airport connection after 10.4.11 Update

Upgraded from 10.4.10 to 10.4.11 on a G5 PPC iMac. Now my network printer (connected to AirPort Extreme base station via ethernet cable) & my USB printer (connected to iMac via USB cable) are missing. Also am unable to connect to my AirPort network. In Printer Setup Utility no printers are listed & when I attempt to add a printer I get a spinning wheel with the message "searching for new drivers". This goes on for about 5 minutes. When it finally stops & I attempt to add a printer using the same settings that worked under 10.4.10 I get the message "server-error-service-unavailable".
When I attempt to connect to my AirPort network no servers are shown & when enter the name or IP address of my PowerBook (which I was able to connect to under 10.4.10) I get the message "the server may not exist or is not operational".
Seems to me these two problems are related but I have no idea how to resolve them. I've tried repair permissions, Disk Warrior, reset printing system, disconnected/reconnected all AirPort cables, power cycled printers & disconnected/reconnected their cables, restarted the Extreme base station, deleted print .plist files, ran the 10.4.11 combo installer again etc, etc. all to no avail. Any ideas?

ok, I got it fixed... after reading thru the post here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1297388&tstart=0
I replaced usr/sbin/cupsd and usr/lib/libcups.2.dylib with my pre-update backup files, rebooted, and then I could re-add my printers. Seems to all be working now.
You'll need something to show hidden files (I used Cocktail), and you'll need root access (I think) to access and replace these files.
IMPORTANT! Note that as administrator, it allowed me to move the file libcups.2.dylib out of /lib into the trash, but wouldn't allow me to copy the backup file (or the original) back into /lib... and then wouldn't restart at all without it... I had to boot from my rescue drive and copy the files with root access. So be very, very careful.

  • Some clients can't connect after 10.6.6 update - the see an error -43

    Hi There,
I'm a designer so am not all that technical but have managed to setup and maintain OS X servers since 10.5.
I've just updated the server to 10.6.6 and now some of our clients can't connect - they get the following error:
"There was an error connecting to the server. Check the server name or IP address and try again.
If you are unable to resolve the problem contact your system administrator."
If I click OK to the error above on the client, I see another error which reads:
"The operation cannot be completed because one or more required items cannot be found.
    (Error code -43)"
I've restarted the server and the clients but no luck.
The server is running the following services:
    - AFP
    - DNS
    - Firewall
    - NFS (although I don't remember setting this up - is this started with AFP?)
    - Open Directory
I can ping the server and login via ARD so not sure why we see the first IP address error as mentioned above.
Any help or suggestions would be most welcome.
    Regards
    Ben

One question, is this when you hit "Connect to Server" or is this after you've established a connection and try to open/edit/save files?
    Here is some general advice:
    1) I assume your whole network is behind a router and that we are talking a small office environment (5-10 people) and not some large enterprise. If so the Firewall service can probably be disabled. As a matter of fact if your issue is that clients can't connect at all the firewall may actually be causing your problem.
    2) NFS can almost certainly be disabled. Its generally only used for two reasons 1) The netboot service needs it. 2) You support unix/bsd clients. I can see from your list of services that netboot isn't something you're doing and I doubt that as a designer you would have much use for unix/bsd systems.

  • Mighty Mouse won't connect after 10.6.7 update

I updated my Macbook to 10.6.7 this morning and almost straight away I started having intermittent connection problems. First I disconnected the mouse and attempted to re-connect but no dice. Then I deleted the Bluetooth pairing and tried to re-pair only to get the following message:
"The pairing attempt was unsuccessful. This configuration of Mac OS X and Bluetooth software could be invalid or unsupported."
The Macbook is less than a year old and the mouse probably only about 6 months. My wireless keyboard doesn't seem to have any issues. I can't believe I'm the only person having this problem!

I noticed that after 10.6.7 you now have to click down on the mouse before it is recognized after sleep or restart. The mouse simply will not move until you click once, then after about 2 or 3 seconds it is captured by the OS and begins to function. You never had to do this before 10.6.7. I did reset SMC but that does not solve this "delay of getting recognized until you click" issue.

  • Slow wireless internet connection after 10.6.4 update

After the initial excitement switching from windows to mac, I'm now having a problem I can't figure out. This problem is mentioned many times in several forums, but I'am unable to find the proper solution.
After unpacking my new MacBook air last week everything worked simple, smooth an correct. Then an automatic update to OS X 10.6.4 was downloaded and installed. I'm having troubles with my wireless internet.
Airport seems to be functioning ok but most sites take ages to load. There's also problems with loading pictures, movies, dynamic contents, etc. Some sites function partially on Firefox, Safari seems to be hanging al the time.
Resetting router, starting MBA in safe mode didn't have any effect. On the ethernet connection the mac and internet is working as a dream. Other windows device also function normally. How do I get my wireless internet working properly??
    Help!

I had exactly the same problem after updating my mac to 10.6.4. I did the usual and trawled the net but could not find a decent fix. It became very very frustrating so in the end I rang apple and luckily I spoke to a technician who had exactly the same problem with his machine. He explained it doesn't effect every mac for reasons I wont go into here but in order to fix this problem 100% guaranteed, you need to do a reformat and a reinstall. This should be done periodically anyway to keep your machine running in tip top condition. I wasn't happy to have to do it but in the end I'm glad I did.
For those who have not done this before see instructions below.
    1. Back up your disk with time machine to an external HD
    2. Boot from installation disk (holding down C)
    3. After choosing english language select utilities from menu bar and select disk utilities.
    4. Select your mac hard drive, erase, and in security options select "zero out disk" and erase.
    5. Reinstall operating system with installation disk, when done update to 10.6.4 assuming that was the system you had installed when you backed up.
    6. Reboot again holding C with installation disk, select utilities then restore option, choose your time machine backup and away you go. FIXED!
It takes a while but you will probably spend just as much time hunting the net for fixes that just wont work and anyway you end up with a clean install that will probably fix other little bugs you were unaware of.

  • Native You Tube app won't connect after 5.0.1 update

Since updating to 5.0.1, native You Tube app will not connect (error msg: "Cannot connect to You Tube"). Have re-synced, restored, cold rebooted, etc. - to no effect. No Restrictions set in Settings. 3G/WiFi connection make no difference. Can access youtube.com on Safari app. Any other ideas as to what happened to native YT app or what can be done to fix? Thx!

I am having the same problem. Siri was pretty functional (but not amazing) from the date I first got my iPhone4s in October. But since the latest update she is completely worthless! She cannot do anything, even simple recognition of my Contacts that was previously a breeze. I'll even say "Call John Smith" (for example) and she'll say, "I'm sorry, I cannot find 'John Smith' in your Contacts, but I found these Contacts," and it will then display "John Smith." Are you kidding me?
It's like having a conversation with my actual girlfriends now. Fail... I've called Apple tech support each of the last 5 nights but each time the wait is HUGE and I hang up after about 10-15 minutes. Seems like a lot of folks are keeping the lines busy - could be because of this issue.

This problem hit me too. I have a static IP address set up on a server, I upgraded netctl to 1.10 and it took me a couple of hours to work out why, after the upgrade, my network would not work. The messages were not helpful as I performed netctl starts, stops and status, or ip link commands. In the end I got the server back up by using ifconfig, ip addr add, ip route add etc. Then I found this forum entry (Thank you siavashserver and jouke!).
While the solution can be found in the netctl manual, it is a little obscure. I think this deserves the status of a bug. I don't think a simple upgrade should allow a whole class of users (everybody with a static ip address) to lose network connectivity without warning.
Even the (upgraded?) /etc/netctl/examples/ethernet-static file fails to include ExcludeAuto=no, so the documentation (at least in this regard) is faulty.
When I performed the upgrade I was warned
    New optional dependencies for netctl
        openvswitch: for Open vSwitch connections
        ppp: for PPP connections
Is it possible to add a message there saying Warning! If you have a static ip address, this upgrade will destroy your network connectivity next time you reboot unless you add ExcludeAuto=no to your network profile?
jouke wrote:Add ExcludeAuto=no to your profile. As there is no way to check a statically configured IP address for correctness, they are excluded from automatic profile selection by default starting netctl 1.10. I am sorry for the inconvenience. From netctl 1.10 onwards, the behavior of netctl-ifplugd@ is documented in the man pages. For more information on ExcludeAuto= and Priority=, consult netctl.profile(5).

  • My iPhone 5s won't connect after 11.1.5 update?

A few days ago before I updated my itunes to 11.1.5 my iPhone was able to connect and sync to itunes just fine, but after the update it will not connect? Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have same issue with 5s and iTunes 11.1.5.  Took Windows 7 laptop (same issue with Windos 7 desktop) to Apple store.  Tech uninstalled all components of iTunes and reinstalled under Administrator.  Didn't work.  Fix: 1. Back up iphone to cloud and make sure it completed. 2. Connect iphone to itunes and when it states iTunes can't see contents of iPhone and must be reset to factory settings (again..make sure phone is backed up on cloud.. may have to delete any previous backups to make room for this backup)..select restore and follow directions.  I haven't done this because I think Apple's resolve is bogus...they should put out an update on 11.1.5 to fix the problem or update 7.1 phone version to fix...but Apple tech said even if they did, it probably wouldn't fix.  Problem is, back up is v7.1 and restore may make phone an earlier version...so...if the bug is in the v 7.1 software on phone and once restored to factory settings and request all updates..won't the backup buggy version 7.1 overide the possilble good version of 7.1 restored on phone before backup is loaded back?  And of course there is always the possiblity of ending up with a brick.  Apple...you need to fix on your end..not expect folkes to fix on their end!
