Connection attempt to firmware update server was unsuccessful.
I have successfully installed iTunes 10.5 onto my WIndows 7 64 bit laptop. Everything I have tried works, except for one thing.
When I try to install iOS5 onto my iPad 2, I can successfully download the file but shortly after it starts installing, it bombs out and gives an error 3259 and then deletes the iOS5 file so I have to download it again!!!!
I found the Diagnostics thing in iTunes and everything seems fine except the below (normally the activation server is fine when I run the diagnostics, but this time it failed):
Connection attempt to Apple web site was successful.
Connection attempt to browsing iTunes Store was successful.
Connection attempt to purchasing from iTunes Store was successful.
Connection attempt to iPhone activation server was unsuccessful.
The network connection timed out.
Connection attempt to firmware update server was unsuccessful.
The network connection timed out.
Connection attempt to Gracenote server was successful.
I have tried the following:
1. Delete contents in hosts file
2. Deselect the certificate revocation checkbox
3. Checked SSL3.0 and TSL 1.0
4. Turned off my firewall
5. Added the whole Apple domain to the Exclude list on my anitvirus
6. Added all the iTunes/Apple/Bonjour folders in Program Files, Program Files (x386), Local, Local Low, Roaming and iTunes in My Music to the Exclude list on the antivirus
7. Tried to run the diagnostics on a second computer, with the same result
8. Switched my laptop over from my Wi-Fi/ADSL network to my phone hotspot network with the same result
9. There are one or two other things I have tried as well that I can't remember
I have spent about 4 hours searching the internet, changing settings, restarting etc etc etc and I am about to punch a hole in my iPad and go get an Android device
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE can somebody tell me why this is happening and how I can fix it
I have found a solution to the iOS5 upgrade that was being stopped by the above connection problem.
1. Unplug your iPad from your computer and plug it back in again
2. A message box will come up that asks if you want to download and install or just download the new iPad firmware.
3. Use the DOWNLOAD only option.
4. Once it has downloaded, click on your Device in iTunes and it should start to install automatically

The only thing I can identify as an issue is that your Windows Firewall is running and iTunes is not enabled in it, so this may be the source of your issue. Here is an article for you that will help you rectify this situation:

If I push I-tunes store when in I- tunes it does not go through and comes back that internet connection not available, yet I can access internet explorer and websites.

Cannot connect to ipod software update server
I have been battling for weeks to get my daughters iPod updated to iOS 5. I keep getting an error message when I try to upgrade "iTunes could not contact the iPod software update server because you are not connected to the Internet." The internet and iTunes are working and I updated my iPhone from the same PC with no issues.
I am running Win 7 x64
I have worked through all the solutions have found on the forums including:
1) Ensure that the local area connection is set toautomatically discover settings
2) flush the DNS cache
3) Change the "Windows live family safety settings for her account to unrestricted"
4) Removee "Windows live family safety" from the PC
5) Change her account to an admin account
6) Temporarily disabled AVG
7) Remove the content of the hosts file
8) Running iTunes as an administrator explicitly
9) Temporarily disabled the windows firewall.
There have been many reboots in this sequence.
iTunes diagnostics gives the following (while running iTunes as administratir, with AVG disabled and the windows firewall disabled, and her account as administrator) - The thing that looks wrong to me is that there appears to be no active connection identified, trouble is the network is working so what is going on? Any help gratefully recieved.

[Exchange]The connection to the server was unsuccessful
Hello Everyone,
I try to configure Exchange Connector V3 on SCSM 2012 SP1.
I have this problem when I test connection on Exchange Server with credentials :
The connection to the server was unsuccessful, please check the server name and/or credentials entered.
Additionnal informations : The source was not found. But some or all of the events logs could not be searched. innacessible logs : Security. (My error is French, I try to translate for you).
So in the second part of this error, I understand that :
I can not have more information in the logs, because it failed to write it. ?? It's shame, maybe it help me ...
I try to access to the Exchange Server URL and it's OK, I'm redirect on a sort of XML file "Services.wsdl"
I try a lot of account and always the same error..
do you have an idea ?
thanks you very muchThe connection to the server was unsuccessful, please check the server name and/or credentials entered.
Additionnal informations : The source was not found. But some or all of the events logs could not be searched. innacessible logs : Security.
If you get the above error when using the new exchange connector 3.1 mainly this error is due to not using the correct exchange web service dll. We need to download and install Exchange
Web Services Managed API 1.2.1. later copy the exchange web service dll to installation directory of Service manager.
This fixed by issue, hope this helps. -
have a iphone 4. i have downloaded the latest version of itunes to update the ios. I am having problems with the back up and sync and also the update. the update error message is coming up saying it cannot connect to the iphone update server. I am useing a windows 7 32 bit laptop. I have also reset my phone to factory settings. Would taking it to one of the stores and they would do it for me??
any help will be great thank youAll I can tell you is that I am having the exact same problem with an iPod Touch and that I was running iTunes 9.2.1.5 at the time it happened. Upgraded to 10.0.0.68 hoping that it might help, but no joy.
I don't want to do a restore just now since the Touch seems to be working fine. Restore will have to wait until I have plenty of free time in case something goes wrong. -
Can't connect to internal Software Update Server
Greetings All,
I just upgraded my XServer from Tiger to Leopard. Before the upgrade, I was using the server as a Software Update Server pushing all updates to Tiger clients. Now after upgrading to Leopard and installing the Software Update Service, it seems that my Leopard (haven't tried Tiger) clients are not able to connect to it internally - they go straight to Apple. I started the service and configured the client with:
defaults write com.apple.SoftwareUpdate CatalogURL http://10.0.1.249:8088/
But it seems to not work. Other question is, will Tiger clients be able to connect to the Leopard server for OS updates? Thanks in advance,
-andy-I've got two 10.5.4 servers (one upgraded throughout the 10.5 life-cycle and one freshly installed at 10.5.1 and combo-updated) and I've never (!!) been able to get them to connect to my Software Update Server (SUS). 10.4 clients can connect and indicate the domain in the SoftwareUpdate title bar. I can copy and paste the same command I make 10.4 clients connect into each 10.5 box I have and none of them will resolve. They all default back to Apple's servers.
When I run "defaults read com.apple.SoftwareUpdate" I get the proper domain listed and it looks just like 10.4 client's responses. No 10.5 clients or servers will attach to my SUS. Why do 10.4 clients and servers? I even recently upgrade the SUS from 10.4.11 to 10.5.4 and Tiger clients still work, 10.5's do not.

I cannot update my ipad2 to ios5. Updating through iTunes on pc Windows Vista, Error message reads "cannot connect to iPad Software Update Server. Tried resetting network settings, still not connecting. Tried updating iTunes, still not connecting.
Look at iOS Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Change the channel on your wireless router. Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html

Can't connect to the software update server, can't connect to the software update server
please advise, I like to update my iphone 4 and ipad 2 to 5.1 but I cant connect to the software update server. I've been trying to connect since yesterday. Is anybody have an idea why?
If you are getting the error message "Unable to check for update" when you try an OTA (over the air update)
Change DNS Servers
Settings -> Wi-Fi
Click the blue arrow on your connected network
Delete everything in DNS and replace it with 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220
Try again
If this works, you will probably want to remove the WiFi network using "Forget This Network" and then reconnect to it to get your original DNS servers back. Alternatively, make a note of the original DNS servers before deleting them and replace it after you are done.
If you are getting the error message "Unable to check for update" when you try through iTunes
On your Mac
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Network.
Select the network connection service you want to use (such as Wi-Fi or Ethernet, unless you named it something else) from the list, and then click Advanced.
Click DNS, and then click Add at the bottom of the DNS Servers list. Enter the IPv4 address for the DNS server.
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
You can Google Public DNS if you want
