Connection drops 10+ times a day...

Hey, i have been with BT for over 5 months now and over the las month my connection has been dropping no less than 10 times a day.
Every time i looses connection i reset the modem, such a pain there has to be a reason. what should i check?
i have BT Total Broadband Option 3.
These are my stats, Could anyone help?

welcome to the forum
are you connected directly to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Do you have any phone extension sockets in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

  • Broadband connection dropping 20 times per day

    Hello I am staying with my parents who use the BT broadband.Their internet has always been suspect but I have never had call to interfere until now. Any attempts to watch streaming or use download sites cause frequent connection crashes. The internet cannot then be found until the router is restarted. It's clearly more than a traffic problem as this is happening during the day during the week as well as at weekends. Any other ideas before I get in touch with the helpdesk?
    Thanks

    are you connected to the hub by ethernet or wireless?  if wireless is it the wireless connection and all lights on hub are blue?
    in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or use a-z, if netgear enter 192.168.0.1) and run btspeedtester (MAC users may have problems) bt speedtester and post the results .
    are you connected directly via a filter to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
    Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal

  • Network Connection Suddenly Drops Several Times Per Day

    We have a couple of macs in our office whose network connections drop several times per day. The two main ones are both 1.66 GHz Intel Core Duo Mac Mini's — one running OS 10.4.8 and the other 10.4.9. Our server is a Windows
    Server 2003 Pentium 4, 3 GHz computer and we use a Linksys 24 port 10/100 Ethernet switch. On occasion, someone else's mac drop their network connection but it seems to be much more frequent with these two. Our other macs are a mixture of other Mac Mini's, iMacs, G4's, etc. all running either OS 10.4.8 or 10.4.9.
    Any ideas??????
    Thanks,
    Neil Brown
    iMac 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    The network connection is still dropping with switching around. In addition, starting this morning, my network connections as well as another person's are dropping suddenly too. The only pattern I can see with mine so far is it seems if I am away from my computer for a few minutes and come back, my network connection has dropped (i.e. the individual "shares" that I have mounted on my desktop, so I have to go back to Connect to Server, log in and mount those again). Our ethernet switch is new, and we had been experiencing this problem before with our old switch, so that didn't solve the problem.
    I'm not sure what to try next. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Neil

  • Infinity connection drops every time I use the lan...

    So I've discussed this on here before with no joy (https://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Infinity-Speed-Connection/connection-drops-every-time-I-get-a-call-on... and I've tried swapping out all the equipment with no success. It is driving us mad now....we have to unplug the landline if we're going to use the Internet for a protracted period, just in case!
    Advice please: where do I go from here? When I use the broadband section to report a fault I end up in a dead-end of self-help docs.
    Do I report it as a phone line problem (and pay for an engineer to visiit) even though the phone line tests out OK?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Well, that will teach me to be so optimistic..
    So I'm now £129 lighter and using a new line...and the broadband doesn't drop out everytime the phone rings..
    BUT it drops out periodically all the time now.. AND the speed is much less than before (I get 30 Mbps on a good day..15 Mbps is typical ,and it was less than 10 Mbps today before it dropped out completely). This may sound churlish to some but I work from home sometimes and the drop in speed, coupled with the frequent disconnections, is making it unworkable...
    So I've reported the fault and despite the very nice Indian woman telling me that '15 Mbps is typical for wireless' after going through a very lengthy script, I am not happy. Wireless/Wired = makes no difference..I've tried...
    Since its worse than before I've asked whether than can switch me back to my old line..the call raised on the 11th was marked as resolved today although I've still no resolution even though I was promised an answer within 24 hours..and have been promised that again today...and nobody rings me on my contact number that I give them (and is in my MyBT profile) but spurious 'we tried to contact you' messages are left on my home answerphone while I'm at work...
    Resolved
    Broadband fault VOL011-***********
    *sigh* according to the official checker I should be getting better....
    (edited to remove the actual fault code since it is deemed a security risk)

  • Home Hub 5 - Connection dropping several times dur...

    Hoping someone wiser than me in matters of broadband can help!
    Like others here since having BT Infinity installed in December, I have been plagued with connection problems. We did have an engineer out in Feb who replaced the main socket and it was marginally better.  In the last 6 weeks my connection has been dropping several times a day and it's getting very annoying.  THere isn't a problem with speed, etc when it's working but it just keeps dropping.  Here's the data from the helpdesk page on my home hub manager.  Have just noticed that the last update of the firmware was 20/01/15 so am wondering if this is problem as I know there was an update being rolled out back in February for the 5A hub?
    Any advice as to how to facilitate that? I have just reset the router but nothing seems to have changed

    I would then split the networks  http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/44798/related/1

    see if that helps

  • Severe drop connection (10-12 times a day) and slow internet

    Hello, I am getting very frequent dropped connections (between 10-12 a day). My internet connection is very slowwwwwww. I cannot even stream a YouTube video without pausing it and waiting about 10 minutes for the video to completely load before playing it. Most websites take over 30 seconds to load and some won't load at all because it says that it timed out. I have tried using IE8 and Google Chrome and Firefox....the same result on all browsers. I am running a brand new Verizon GT701C modem and a brand new Belkin 926 router. I am hard wired into the Belkin. I bought a new modem and router because I thought maybe my equipment was too dated, but I am still having the same severe problems. I feel like I am on dial -up all over again. Thanks in advanced for any help.  Here is the system log report from my modem :

  • WiFi drops numerous times a day !!

    Hi
    I have a 1TB Time Capsule running for more than a year now. Its my backup and router solution. Its been running fine all this time but from lets say two months
    it started to drop my wifi connection.
    When this happens I am unable to browse the Internet or access the time capsule itself.
    It only happens with the wifi because the plugged in Ethernet computers keep their connection to Internet.
    I don't use other frequency than 5GHZ (n) but I already tested with 2.4Ghz and it does happens.
    Already installed SNMP Server on my machine to receive traps from time capsule but no "event" was received when connection drops.
    Running the latest version 7.5.2, downgraded to 7.5.1, with the same results.
    Happens with Windows 7 laptops on 5Ghz and Mac OSX 5Ghz.
    It could work without problem from a long period and suddenly wifi drops.
    Can Someone help.
    My best Regards

    welcome to the forum
    are you connected directly to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Do you have any phone extension sockets in your home?
    Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone
    Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

  • Wireless connection drops after time. Please assist.

    Hi
    My problem is that my wireless connection drops every 5-15 minutes.
    I don't know all the relevant info to give.  If there's something I can post that will help let me know and I'll reply.
    I've used netcfg to configure my network.  I have a Canyon CN-WF511 wireless card.
    I load the following 3 modules in my rc.conf;  rt2500pci rt2x00lib rt2x00pci.  I think those are the only ones pertaining to my network card.
    When it drops I just netcfg -a then netcfg default (profile name) and it works for another few minutes.
    Below is my network profile.
    CONNECTION="wireless"
    INTERFACE=wlan0
    #IP="dhcp"
    #DHCP_TIMEOUT=20
    IP="static"
    IFOPTS="192.168.0.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.0.255"
    GATEWAY=192.168.0.1
    #DOMAIN=localdomain
    #DNS1=192.168.0.1
    ESSID=default
    SECURITY=none
    SCAN="YES"
    TIMEOUT=15

    The easiest solution might be to setup NetCfg somehow with your wifi card and access point.  Have you tried that?  Can you find your card's chipset on the wiki?(chances are that your particular chipset will need a firmware put into /lib/firmware.  Again that's found on the wiki on the NetCfg or Wifi page, I forget which sorry.)  Those are two places where I'd look for good information.
    By the way, your rc.conf is way out of date.  You should look at updating it by using the recent rc.conf.pacnew file that you'll find in the /etc directory.

  • Connect drops every time phone rings

    I have BT BB1, but I use BT analogue for phone calls (I have pay for free 24 x 7).
    However everytime the phone is used, by BB connect drops.
    Any ideas?

    No doubt a microfilter problem. Either one is faulty, you have them configured incorrectly or you have an unfiltered telephone somewhere; Skybox is usually favourite for not being filtered as people forget it is connected to the telephone system.
    If you have a microfilter problem somewhere then you are also likely not getting the best speed out of your broadband either. Usually, I find that customers broadband speed improves, as well as stability, once the filter issues are resolved
    I'm a noob here so can't point you in the direction of relevant help page (yet), although I think someone did it already in a previous post.

  • Wifi connecting drops on Time Capsule when I sync iMac with appletv

    I've had this issue ever since I got my 27" iMac and I can't figure it out.
    My setting:
    I live in a 3 bedroom apartment. Livingroom is at the right as you go in. Followed by room 1, then room 2 and right before the kitchen at the end is room 3(mine). I Have an apple tv in the living room, a 21" iMac and a time capsule that I use only as an airport base. I also keep a macbook in the livingroom. In my bedroom, room 3, I have my 27"iMac. Everything is connected to the Time Capsule for wifi as well as a couple of iphones and an ipod touch. Everything is updated with the latest software updates.
    My problem is that every time I try syncing my apple tv with my 27" iMac, the time capsule looses the wifi connection and immediately starts blinking orange. I have to restart the time capsule by unplugging it and then the wifi connection is restored. For a while now I've been using a 50' ethernet cable that connects the 27" imac and the time capsule with the wifi off on the imac. This is the only way the wifi connection isn't affected when I sync to the appletv. I've tried resetting and restoring the time capsule several times without helping the issue. I also tried all 11 channels on the wifi connection as well as automatic setting for the channel but that doesn't seem to help. I clean installed snow leopard on my 27" iMac as well with no luck. At this time I don't know what to do, any help would be appreciated. I'm really tired of having that cable laying around. Thanks
    ~C

    please read this about possible sources of _*wireless interference*_, which may well be your problem.
    wireless signals, if they have to travel over long distances or through obstacles (such as concrete walls or steel structures), will lose power. especially on the 5 GHz band you virtually need +line by sight+ in order to get a clean and reliable signal.
    consequently, many users (including myself) resort to hardwired connections where possible. except my two airport express units and my iPod Touch, i have all my equipment hardwired to my TC.
    additionally, syncing large amounts of data between devices heavily taxes your wireless bandwidth.
    best of luck !
    JGG

    Is this common?  Do I need to return the EA 6500?

  • BT Infiinity Connection drops 10 times in five hou...

    I have spent all Saturday morning reading the forums about OpenRG and LCP Send termination requests while my HH5 repeatedly reboots. The best I have managed so far today is about 43 minutes between reboots. The worst was around 10 minutes.
    This all started on Friday which happened to be 11 days after Infiinity was installed. Having waited 10 days for the line to settle I switched off the HH5 for 30 secs as BT recommends and rebooted. Repeated disconnects since then. I estimate at least 20 in 24 hours. I cannot be exact because at various times I have powered down, manually rebooted or factory reset the HH5 and the log files are incomplete. Here's the latest:

    12:35:54, 26 Apr.
    ( 3863.800000) OpenRG will go down for reboot in 5 seconds
    That reboot came about 45 minutes after the last one and after I had manually set the 2.4 and 5.0 Ghz wireless to set channels as per a BT Mod suggestion in another thread.
    I am, like many others, completely fed up with the constant disconnects and reboots. While I am more than happy with my speed increases (a ten-fold download and twenty-fold upload increase for me) I cannot game or stream online with these breaks in connection. What am I paying for? It's like having an F1 car you can only race in your drive way: yes, you can get to top speed in a couple of sections but then the driveway ends and you have to reverse and start again.
    BT ought to do more to proactively combat this problem and be more transparent that people are having issues. Why do I need to trawl through pages and pages of forum posts and Google searches to find what is a common problem has no sticky on the top of the forum? Why is this issue not flagged up?
    I best post this message as the next disconnect is likely not far away.
    BT Mods - please help. I have had broadband from you for over a decade but, speed aside, the last two days has felt like a trip back to the dark days of intermittant dial up.
    BT corporation and board - please stop putting profits first and acknowledge that your infrastructure and hardware is suspect. Your customers should come first. Work for us and your brand image improves because we then talk about how good a company you are. Hide behind TV adverts and offshore customer "support" and we just become irate and hate you for it.

    Well just taken delivery of a replacement HH5 after continuous hourly reboots for three and a half days. New hub has been up 15 minutes but speed is 48/0.7 compared to 69/15 I had previously. As the line is two weeks old would I expect to see such a drop in download and upload figures just because of a new hub or does this one need some time settle in?

  • Airport connection drops about once a day..

    is the problem in my macbook or in my airport?? when i go to look at the airport, the green light is still on. help would be appreciated.
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hola -
    If you go to your System Preferences/Network/Airport and check the box "Show Airport status in menu bar" you'll be able to see the strength of the signal in your top menu. 4 bars will equal a strong signal. Monitor this throughout the day ...if it's working fine for most of the time then I'd suspect the wireless router as the problem. Also, if the signal is very weak (1-2 bars) then you may indeed lose your connections at times.

  • Where is your discussion board regarding Windows 10, having interent drops 8 times a day

    Ever since I upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10, I have been having frequent internet connection problems.  Neatgear router is blaming it on my ISP.  ISP is blaming it on the router, I have switched cables in all different directions; i.e., modem to router only, router to laptop only, and adding another cable from router to PC.  Still having problems. Have talked to Microsoft, Neatgear and my ISP.  One of them told me that I need updates to new drivers for Windows 10. I do not know more than that, but I use my comptuer for work and I need a steady internet connection.  Any suggestions?

    Hi, There are many Windows 10 foruns around such as       http://www.tenforums.com/      http://www.windows10forums.com/ I would not upgrade my main machine (I call my "production" machine) during the first week/month of ANY software release. For Windows 10, I've been testing it for many months on my test machine but still keep my two "production" machines intact. I will upgrade it, may be few months time even I don't use my machines for work. Regards.
