Connection drops and then very slow speeds.

I don't know what's caused this. My broadband has been stable at 7Mb/s downstream for about 6 months now. But a few days ago my connection kept dropping randomly. Now it's stabilised but my speed is way down.

I've done all the usual things with wiring everything up, changing filters and using the connection behind the faceplate. I've tried to run the test at speedtester.bt.com but I just get an error whenever I try. When I run the test at speedtest.net I get-
Ping: 44ms
Download 1.22Mbps
Upload 0.37Mbps
which is quite a bit slower than what the router says, but it feels even slower than that.
I'm not sure if this just needs a reset at the other end because of all the disconnections or if I've got a real problem but an help would be appriciated.

I finally got speedtester to work. I says the maximum my line can handle is 2000kbps but I used to get 7000. Does this look like a problem with the line?

  • Transferred from O2 and now very slow speeds Pleas...

    Hi
I recently transferred over BTTB from O2 broadband where I was having a consistent 3MBps connection.  Now my IP Profile has maximised the line at 1MBps and my speeds have drastically reduced.
I am certainly not happy with my service at the moment, and despite many calls to India with many "line tests" and 24 hour monitoring, it has not changed.
My speedtest and Hub details are posted below and am hoping that someone can help me with some advice.

Suggest you check your phone line for noise by using the bt quiet line test dial 17070 option 2 if you hear any noise phone bt and report a voice fault do not mention broadband your profile is low because of the number of disconnections once the noise issue is sorted out your profile will rise normally after 3 to 5 days also connect your hub to the test socket at the back of the master socket and do not restart the hub also how long have you been with BT for your broadband

  • Ongoing Broadband connection drops and slow speed ...

Over the last few weeks i seem to be having random issues with my Broadband connection and teh connection has become very unstable and unreliable
The connection will randomly drop and re-establish, often at a much lower speed that it should be. I regularly get around 3 - 4MB download speed which is good for my area but often find that when it reconnections i get around 1MB. To resolve the issue i usually have to restart my hub (BT HH2) which then usually gets me back to the normal speed.
Luckily I do have a SamKnows box which shows this issue in a graphical form. Note how unstable the connection and speed seems to be! Surely it is not be like this?

Current line status is below. Note i had the issue this morning which ended up with me restarting the Hub again.

    Any ideas please?

ok so i plugged my HH2 in to the test socket as suggested and today have found the connection to be more unstable than usual.... So around 45 minutes ago the connection drops and re-establishes and i get the below results:

    Hi Skye_Starkey,
Im sorry to hear that you are having issues with your internet service. I know this can be very frustrating and I apologise for the inconvenience.
You can check to see if there is an outage in your area by entering your postcode and suburb in our service status checker: http://servicestatus.telstra.com/servicestatus/goc.do?q=summary.html
Please powercycle your modem and computer: Unplug from power > Leave off for 10 - 15 mins > then Plug back in and re start. This will often force a line update through to your modem advising the signal is restored.
Please make sure you have not exceeded you monthly usage allowance and have been shaped (slowed). You can do this via My Account http://tel.st/cpyn

  • 2.4GHZ clients very slow speeds with AP3600

    5508 WLC (7.5.102)
    AP36021
We currently have a test WiFi SSID setup that uses basic mac filtering on our WLC's
WLAN is configured with WPA and WPA2 L2 Security with WPA Policy and WPA2 Encryption.
For some reason we seem to be getting very slow speeds on clients with 2.4GHZ
for example speedtest.net I get 70mg upload and 65mg download on 5GHZ devices and about 1-3mg download and 1mg upload for 2.4GZ devices!
    AP36021 are dual band with 4 channels (2 x 2.4Ghz and 2 x 5Ghz)
fyi - There are no dropped packets on the client stats via Prime mgmt that use 2.4GHZ
    Any ideas here?

  • Mac os x lion 10.7 on mac book pro not updating and running very slow

i am using mac os x lion 10.7
problem it is not updating and running very slow. How to improve?

If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. This procedure is a diagnostic  test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem. The backup is necessary on principle, not because of anything suggested in this comment. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The procedure will help to identify which such modifications you've installed, as well as some other aspects of the state of the system that may be pertinent.
Don’t be alarmed by the seeming complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out. Here's a brief summary: You copy a line of text from this web page into a window in another application. You wait about a minute. Then you paste some other text, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is: copy, paste, paste again. That's all there is to it. Details follow.
You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken while booted in “normal” mode. If the system is now running in safe mode and is bootable in normal mode, reboot as usual. If it only boots in safe mode, proceed anyway.
Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script. It does nothing but produce human-readable output. However, you need to be cautious about running any program at the behest of a stranger on a public message board. If you question the safety of the procedure suggested here — which you should — search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them.
The script will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but it's really a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it.
If you have more than one user, and the affected user is not an administrator, then please run the script twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The administrator is the user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time. If you can't log in as an administrator, just run the script as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign ($) or a percent sign (%). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.

If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter your password, the script will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important, so don't worry about it.
The script may take up to a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. Wait for the line "[Process completed]" to appear in the Terminal window.
You can then quit Terminal. The output of the script will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. All you have to do is paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V again.
    Please note:
☞ This procedure is all copy-and-paste — type nothing in the Terminal window except your login password if and when prompted.
☞ Remember to post the output. It's already in the Clipboard when you see "[Process completed]" in the Terminal window. You don't have to copy the output; just paste into your web browser.
☞ If any personal information, such as your name or email address, appears in the output, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.

  • Wireless connection drops and doesn't reconnect (netcfg, wpa_actiond)

    I use netcfg 2.5.4-1 and wpa_actiond 1.1-1, B43 driver (BCM4318 wireless card) with firmware.
    $ uname -a
    Linux vekta 2.6.32-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon Mar 15 20:08:25 UTC 2010 i686 Mobile AMD Sempron(tm) Processor 3100+ AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux
Connecting works fine. I can connect using sudo netcfg <profile>, or it automatically connects me on startup.
However, after a few minutes (up to 15 at best, usually 3-5) the connection is dropped. dmesg prints:
"No probe response from AP <macaddress> after 500ms, disconnecting."
However, netcfg isn't notified of this event, and still thinks the profile is connected. So I have to use netcfg -r <profile> to reconnect. Isn't netcfg supposed to notice this connection drop and try to reconnect again automatically?
Also, is there any way to increase the 500ms threshold mentioned in the log? I don't think I ever had this problem when I first installed arch in november/december last year.
    Thank you.

    Got a new EA4500 for X'mas
After setting up the new router I could only access youtube and google at a very slow speed, however I can not access anyother website - facebook, yahoo and etc...
it would ping yahoo and google no problem
friend told me to do a tracert some ip address and his conclusion was the router is fully functional
ISP uses PPPoE, Im sure that the username and password are correct.
upgraded to the latest firmware manually, and holy hell accessing the router with no internet access is a pain in the **bleep**!
    Please help and Merry X'mas

It might be a DNS problem. Release & renew ip on the status page of your router. Just make sure you are already using the latest Linksys smart wifi firmware, reset the router & reconfigure. You can download the firmware here http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/support/routers/EA4500.

firefox maxing my cpu and runs VERY slow i have reset firefox and re installed it, diddnt work i have googles searched about it and tryed so manny things to fix it but nothing works this is my last idea posting here

Did you do a clean reinstall and deleted the Firefox program folder?

    *(64 bit Windows) C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\
Try to boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
    See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • BT Wi-Fi connection drops and cannot be closed

I use BT Wi-Fi on a monthly subscription - 500 minutes for £6 a month, plus 12p a minute for any extra minutes.
Occasionally my connection drops, and I have to reconnect and login again, which I can do OK.
But when I check later how many minutes I used, via my online subscription info, it's clear that I end up with two connections running in parallel. The connection which dropped carries on as active in the background somewhere until it is eventually auto-disconnected (after 15 or 20 minutes ?) due to inactivity. So I lose those minutes each time this happens.
There is no way to close the dropped connection. Even if I log out of my new 2nd connection, it only closes that one, not the dropped one which I can't access.
Today this happened when I was at the end of my monthly allowance, so because I couldn't close the connection I've now gone around 30 minutes over my allowance, which will cost me £3.60.
Please can we have a way of closing all connections on a BT Wi-Fi account, to deal with this issue.
And a refund would be good, as I had no way of preventing my account going into the 12p a minute rate.

Hi, I use facetime regularly with my parents who live outside US and it stopped working. Their ipad2 rings, says connecting..and then 'call failed'. Upgrading their iOS5 (or 6) is not a option as my parents do not know to do this. I came across forums where this issue is mentioned on apple support and cnet.
Is there another option apart from upgrading ?

Well, in his defense, his parents bought him the player so I guess we can't blame him. Though the 6 GB versions were available in November so I guess they really did get 'nervous' about Christmas and like to get their shopping done early! Kudo's to you for trying to remain with the Creative line but for what you're looking for it's obviously not the player for you. Creative seems to be fine-tuning their line for the audio crowd. I'm into mp3 players for the audio. Sure, the ability to watch video's and look at pictures on a decent screen is a plus but for me at least, it's all about the music. And with music, 6 GB is more than enough. Heck, 8 GB would have been more than enough for me. I'm a subscriber to Napster-to-go, so I don't feel the need to carry 00 plus GB of stuff on my portable player. I honestly don't understand the desire to watch movies or TV shows on tiny little screens. But you're also talking to a guy who doesn't watch television. What a complete waste of time and brain cells. Probably the **competitor products we can't discuss here** or one of those players would better suit your needs. Companies are definately picking their niche markets carefully and Creative's decision to not offer hard dri've players any more seems to definately be saying bye-bye to that market. I can't say I blame them. Hard dri'ves eventually give up the ghost and are quite delicate for people on the go. Good ridance, I say. Let Apple, Zune and all the others cater to the Z generation's need to be spoonfed their video/TV addictions anywhere and everywhere. I'll pass. It's one thing to be able to enjoy some music on the go and enhance an otherwise dull work day or dri've. But movies/TV shows at work, school, or wherever? Please. Cut the cord! Just my $.02 - YMMV! Hello Albert, see how many of these you can answer...
See if the Disk is issuing any S.M.A.R.T errors in Disk Utility...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH7029
Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
How much RAM & free space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
In the Memory tab, are there a lot of Pageouts?

  • Healing brush/Clone stamp tool and others very slow processing

Healing brush/Clone stamp tool and others very slow processing. System resources monitor shows only 700MB (of 5GB allocated to Photoshop) RAM and 30% CPU is used to perform such tasks as healing brush. Process bar comes up and is painfully slow to complete the task. I don’t understand why does Photoshop not use all the resources available/allocated? No other programs are running at the time, I have tried all the suggestions on this forum and all over the Google. My brand new system is: Intel I7 4770K overclocked to 4.3GHz, 8GB 1600 RAM, Samsung PRO 120GB SSD system drive, 100GB scratch disk. The photos I usually work on don’t exceed 20MB in size. Any suggestion would be appreciated.  Thanks

    Thanks for the answer.
I have not mentioned the GPU because the processes I described (as far as I know) are not supposed to be using GPU resources. So far I have not been able to afford the GPU i want which is GTX770, so I use Intel 4600 built in graphics instead. To be honest I find, that 4600 graphics is quite powerful. I am able to play Mass Effect 3 on Full spec on max res without game slowing down. And Windows 7 64bit index score is 7.8 for the 4600 graphics. Overall index score is 7.8 on my PC righ now.
I'll try to get the Photoshop system info as soon as possible.
    Thanks again.
