'Connection failed' dialogue box

Using my MacBook (10.5.6) on my home Apple Extreme network I'm getting a persistent 'Connection failed' dialogue box.
I can connect to the network and other Mac's on the same network without any problem, yet this persistent little box keeps popping up with its message: 'Connection failed. The server may not exist or it is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and try again'
I'd be grateful for some pointers as to why this may be happening. Is there anyway to disable it?
Many thanks

Hi All,
I also had the same problem here... driving me nuts trying to fix it. I also had my connection to my Time Capsule drop, reconnect, only to drop again in the same session. The combination resulted in over 8 minutes to fully boot up my MBP with an questionable airport connection. Looking at another issue, I may have found a fix (at least it cleared up my problems). Looking at "Macbook sporadically fails to connect to Time Capsule" (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9239652&#9239652), I tried a fix posted by Joel H --
+++++++++++++++++++
"Open airport utility, click your time capsule, click 'continue'. On every page you can either accept current settings or change them. You want to change the one that has a 'device' password to a 'disk' password."
+++++++++++++++++++
I tried this, after I had deleted my Keychain Airport prefs and rebooted, entering in my Airport Time Capsule password again (my TC was already set to 'disk' password). Wahlah, it worked solving both problems!!!! I still get an "Unable to mount G-Drive" error (I use my G-Drive to backup my TC via USB) when I don't have my G-Drive connected to my TC and powered up but the boot time is now less than a minute. Apple still needs to address this problem. We, Apple users, shouldn't have to scour the entire discussions site to find a fix.

  • Annoying "do you want to allow network connections" popup dialogue box

Every time I open certain applications, I get a popup message that asks if I want to allow network connections. It also tells me these settings can be changed in the preference pane. All of the connections there are set to allow network connections. I tried turning them all off and then on again, no luck. I am about ½ a step away from reinstalling the much more stable 10.6.8 OS.

  • Bonjour Connections Fail For One user

Our Mac is connected to a wireless network with some other Windows computers using Bonjour. I set up the connection a few years ago (that was on another Mac but I used the migration assistant to transfer everything without any hitches). Now the connection from my wife's account on the Mac to the Bonjour drives will not work, and I cannot figure out why. The computers show up in my wife's sidebar when "Bonjour computers" is checked in the sidebar preferences. But when you click on any of them the connection fails, and the only error message is "Connection failed." There is no other information. If you click "Connect As," nothing happens. No new error message, no connection, no dialogue box, nothing.
I checked the Network, Sharing, and Security settings in the System Preferences, and could not find anything different in my wife's account, although it is possible I'm missing something.
I tried the "Connect to Server" method in Finder and that also fails.
In my account, and at least one other, clicking on the servers in the sidebar connects automatically, so the problem is only in this account, but I am at a loss how to fix it.

    Any information about my issue?

  • Recovering Server when DB Connection failed on startup

We have WebLogic 10.3.2. The database password associated with the cgDataSource has changed and now weblogic fails to start up. It throws the following exception  javax.security.auth.login.LoginException: [Security:090735]The DBMS connection was not usable exception.
I need to be able to update the password for the cgDataSource connection to get the server to start again.
I have tried updating the config/jdbc/cgDataSource-jdbc.xml with the new password (generated via java weblogic.security.Encrypt to generate the new encrypted password ). When I paste the encrypted password into the jdbc config file and re-start the server, I still get the DBMS connection failure.
Any suggestions on how i can recover this?

    Scott,
I'm having a similar problem. My iTunes is on an NAS server at home. This works great and I have no complaints. But I get that awful "Connection Failed" dialog box whenever I fire up the laptop whether at home or out. As long as I'm not connected to that server.
Then it pops up sporadically from there. I always have to hit "OK" twice, too. Hate to sound like a snob, but if feels like more of a Windows-type problem, and I'm a little embarrassed by it. Never had this with Tiger.
I don't care if Leopard is trying to fire up a connection in the background, but I don't care to hear about it. I too wish to suppress this dreadful message, which I experience upwards of twenty times a day.
Just giving this board some play; others please respond. I did a search on these boards for "Connection Failed" and found that most people are really trying to establish a connection. Scott and I are trying to suppress a message which is irritating. Slightly different issue.
    Thanks,
    Chris H.

Are you using OS X Server here, or is this a connection with some other server?  If this is OS X Server, what version is running?
Please post a screen shot of the dialog box, and an example of a URL that's failing.  (You can use ⌘⬆4 (command shift 4) to activate the screen capture mechanism, and the camera icon here to upload the image.  Please make sure you don't include any sensitive information in what you're uploading.)

I have just upgraded to OSX 10.6.8 and now I cannot open or save PDF files from the internet using either Safari or Firefox. I get a dialogue box saying the QuickTime plugin has failed. Can anyone help?

Is this what you downloaded: iTunes 10.7?
When the update fails what if any error report do you get, specifically? Please do this before trying again:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

I'm trying to update my Photoshop CS5, but continue to receive the same problem every time. The application manager update dialogue box simply states "some updates failed to install." There's no specific error code, but a link to contact support for further assistance. It doesn't take me to customer support, but does take me to a screen which states. I've checked my account and the product serial number is associated with my account., so I don't see any problem.  I have not been able to find a resolution to this problem, so I hope that someone can point me in the right direction.  Thank you!

  • I have an issue with my ipad2.  There is a dialogue box open regarding connecting to hotmail and I cannot close it.   Any ideas on what I can do?

I have an issue with my ipad2.  There is a dialogue box open stating "Cannot verify server identity - Hotmail can't verify  the identity of "m.hotmail.com" - Would you like to continue anyway?"  I cannot close it close this box no matter what I press.  As a result I cant get in to my ipad.  Any ideas on what I can do?  I have tried switching it off but this doesn't work either.

You need to force quit whatever is happening to you.  Try a reset, reboot.  Hold the home and sleep button until the apple logo appears.  Ignore the red slider.
What may be happening is that the set up for your hot mail account is wrong or has failed, and if you have push or fetch turned on, one of the first things the pad will do is to establish contact, and check your mail.  If it cannot get through because of the set up, it comes to a stop, wanting you to fix that problem.
If you have a wifi only, try to start up the pad where there is no signal.  And if your have 3 g, turn it off.  You want the pad to thing there is no signal, so dont try to look for the mail.
What happens if you push home from that screen?  It should goto the home page.  Then go immediately to settings, mail, and either fix the setting, or delete the account and start over.  But turn off push or fetch until you get it sorted out.

  • Wireless Dialogue Box on Network Connection?

    Hello,
After recently upgrading to Snow Leopard on my MacBook, I'm now getting a confirmation/dialogue box on connecting to my wireless router (via Airport) saying "Connected to 'Home Network'" - with an "OK" button I now have to click to make the dialogue box go away.
Previously it just connected transparently without having to go through this confirmation box. Does anyone have any idea how I can circumvent this box popping up everytime the Mac connects to the wireless network?
    Any help/ideas much appreciated, thanks!
    Paul

    Nobody any ideas?

    Hi IG viper,
Placing your iPod into recovery mode should allow you to successfully restore the device.
You might see these error messages if any of these are true:
Your device has a beta version of iOS.
You're trying to install an earlier version of iOS (downgrading).
Your device has unauthorized modifications to iOS, also called "jailbreaking."
Use recovery mode to restore your device to the latest version of iOS.
Resolve iOS update and restore errors

  • Connection to JetDirect Box x500 with default settings failed

    Hello everybody,
got a big problem withJetDirect x500 boxes in my company.
After a blackout at my company, many JetDirect boxes lose their configuration and reset themselves to the default configurations.
We got the exact configuration of each box written down, so i want to set them up again with the correct settings.
But now i can´t connect to the boxes via HP JetAdmin. I try it with the mac adress and also with the default ip (192.0.0.192), but non of these works.
I also tried resetting the boxes and then try to connect, but the connection failed.
I also tried to connect the boxes locally via a network switch to my notebook and repeat to connect with the methods written above , but this is also not working.
There must be a way to configure these boxes locally so they can be set up in the network, but i can not find in in the manual.
Did someone got a solution for this and can help me out, please ???
    greetings
    pat

Like sasek, I'm using the RTL8187SE card and I can't use networkmanager because it just doesn't detect the networks. What I've seen in the log files is that wpa_supplicant is stuck in a loop. I used Fedora for a few days and it connects fine, using the gnome-shell applet, but Fedora is so damn slow on my laptop.
Right now I'm using wicd-curses. That's my solution for now.
