"Connection failed" error with time capsule

I can't access my time capsule. I get a "connection failed" error.  And yet, the WiFi still works.  I've tried resetting and unplugging and re-plugging.

I've returned home after some time away, and it's back to the Time Capsule problem!
The Time Capsule Status icon (the clock symbol in the menu bar) was grey - I went into Time Capsule Preferences, chose 'Select Disk' and selected 'Data' as the back-up location (the name of the Time Capsule folder). I then chose 'Backup Now' and the status icon turned black & began turning - with message 'Making Backup disk Available'. A couple of times, nothing happened beyond this - and I received an error message.
However after restarting my laptop (note I have shut down and restarted a number of times anyway since end November) the 'Making backup disk available' message was quickly followed by 'Calculating Changes...'. Out of interest, Time Machine Prefernces says that Oldest Backup is "--" and Latest Backup is "--". After 5 minutes, the status changed to 'Calculating Changes... (1%)' and at this point I was able to open Time Machine, and move back to previous backups (most recent being 27 November). It went on to showthat it was backing up 24.5 GB, and began this process. Then the status icon switched to a black circle with warning triangle and Time Capsule Preferences now reads;
Oldest Backup: 27 November 2009
Latest Backup: Failed
The error message (in the icon) is:
Make sure your computer and the backup disk are on the same network, and that the backup disk is turned on. Then try again to back up.
Latest successful backup: 27/11/2009 at 22:17
Help appreciated!

  • "Connection Failed" error on Time Capsule

I bought my Time Machine about 6 months ago, and it worked perfectly! About 2 months ago I moved across town and set it up again in my new home without a problem. One day when I get home and open my MacBook Pro, I noticed that the Time Machine feature wasn't backing up automatically, as usual. I have wireless Internet connection, but cannot access any of my files or back them up. I have reset it several times, reconfigured the settings, I even called customer support (about a month ago) and they could not figure it out.
When I try to set it as my back-up drive, it gives me the following error (and also in the screen capture below):
The server “WC-TIME-CAPSULE.local” may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again.
How can I solve this issue? ABSOLUTELY ALL my files are backed up in my Time Capsule. PLEASE HELP!!!
    Thanks in advance,

Reset to factory and do the setup again..
Otherwise you do have one of the other issues.. but you are connecting from SL.. not Lion??
There was a couple of work arounds mentioned in one of the threads.. but really you should ring apple and get them to fix it.. If you look at the Log in the TC this is being caused by some AFP server drop out issue..
Try reading this thread from the end backwards.. as some of the ideas at the beginning were wrong or development of understanding was primitive at first.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3526741?start=105&tstart=0
But for me it is utterly consistent.. flash a TC to 7.6 or later.. server interrupted messages begin maybe a day later but then continually.. flash back to 7.5.2 they stop.. I have the TC bridged though.. not the main router.. I have several ideas of what is causing the issue..
If you want to be more scientific, try opening the arp table in the Mac and see if you can ping the TC, by name and IP address. Give me the result of that.. if the issues continue.

  • I get a "Secure Connection Failed" error with google stating "certificate contains the same serial number"

When I click on a link for a google search, I get the "Secure Connection Failed" error in Firefox. It states, "Please contact the server administrator or email correspondent and give them the following information: Your certificate contains the same serial number as another certificate issued by the certificate authority."
I have followed the instructions here:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Certificate%20contains%20the%20same%20serial%20number%20as%20another%20certificate
    and looked at this article:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1028103?esab=a&as=aaq
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox, deleted the entire profiles folder, and reset Firefox. I see that the older (orphaned) article points to my router. However, I have a new router and have updated its software. There is no button to add an exception (as noted in the article), so I can't just bypass it. This problem does not occur with IE, so I have a hard time believing it is my router.
How do I troubleshoot this issue? I really don't want to change browsers.

Here is a screen shot of the error.

  • Failed backup with Time Capsule, how to correct Error 11?

I just recently bought the Time Capsule and started using it with my MacBook. It performed the initial backup just fine, but then about two weeks after, I started getting failed backup messages. I recently checked this discussion forum and tried some of the suggestions with no success. So then I launched Consule (like one of the discussion threads recommended) and typed backupd and copied and pasted what was recorded when I tried to run the backup again. Can anyone help me make sense of what is going on here and what Error: 11 means and how to solve it? Thanks.

  • Connection timeout issues with Time Capsule

I have a first generation 500 GB Time Capsule, with AT&T Uverse internet service.  The device worked fine up until 3 weeks ago, at which time I received a "connection timeout" error when trying to connect from any of the computers in the house.  At that time, the computers were showing that the wireless network was available, but I was just unable to connect.  I could connect to the device using the ethernet connection, and the wired computer would still successfully backup.
I restarted the Time Capsule, and everything immediately returned to normal.  Everything worked fine for about a week, and then the problem occurred again.  The issue has been occurring more and more frequently, to the point that it now is only working for several hours before requiring a reset.
Has anybody experienced anything similar to this?  Any thoughts on a solution to this?

Hi I had similar problems. I moved houses got my own cable modem and tried to use the TC as my wireless, as i had it in my other home. The connection would drop constantly and i was unable to use the TC as a wireless device, it would also freeze my computer (mac book Pro). After asking everyone for help i found that when i moved the TC next to the cable modem in the garage it all worked. Apparently the ethernet cable that ran from the garage to the living room was only using 4 of the 8 pins and thus was dropping the connection. i am now connected directly from the modem to the tc and it has not failed yet (cross my fingers). After all this was suppose to be wireless and thus i don't need to have it right next to my computer. The signal is strong and it has not caused any problems. I didn't mess with the settings after i did a hard reset on the TC. So far so good. hopes this helps.

  • How can i connect plex app with time capsule

i have a time capsule 2TB and iphone 5s and ipad mini 2
i stored all my movies on the TC and i can acces them by imac and apple tv
i just bought plex for ipad and iphone and don't now how to connect to TC
i want play these movies by ipad by plex connected to TC but don't know how to
    please help

i just don't know to acces the TC with the plex app i tried several thing like port forwarding but can't figure it out
The plex app is a client.. you must be running a plex server in your network..
    https://plex.tv/ios
Since the Apple Time Capsule cannot host any media.. since it has no media extensions it is impossible to support plex server on it. You must run a plex server on a computer or intelligent device.. TC doesn't rate as it is a fixed router with nothing to help you.

  • Connect to TV with Time Capsule

Hi, I have a Time Capsule and a Macbook and want to connect the MB to my LG TV. Is there any way that I can wirelessly connect to my TV via the TC so that I can view what's on my MB on the TV? If not is there any other way to wirelessly to connect to the TV?
    Thanks in advance

The TV is new but don't think that it it wireless, but wondered if i could plug a cable from my tv to the TC to "enable it to be wireless".
Not exactly a substitute for a wireless adapter, however, you could provide the TV with access to the Internet thru an Ethernet connection to the TC.
It is important to understand that the TC is not a true media server, nor unlike the AirPort Express, does not have any form of audio circuitry for audio streaming. It is however, capable of both file or printer server services.

  • Connecting iPad 2 with Time capsule via speedport

    Hey guys!
Can I connect my iPad 2 with my Time capsule which is connected to my Router (speedport)? I don't want to Switch the wifi Connection between Router and TC all the Time.
I Hope you can help me with this!
    Regards

Open the network preferences and make sure the ethernet is getting an IP from the TC.. you do not need to change any settings .. all you need is network connection.. if the ethernet is working just turn off airport for the time the backup is going on. Once you turn off airport in the MBP the connection will be forced to ethernet. You can do it more correctly by rearranging the order of preference for network connection.. but for now.. just turn off airport.

  • Share internet connection through iMac with Time Capsule

I have a scenario at work where I need to temporarily set another router as the DHCP server. I have a customer who has a typical office setup. They have an iMac which is plugged into a time capsule (TC). A network printer is also plugged into the same time capsule. I have had to move the WAN modem to where the wifi router is located in another room. The office needs to be able to connect to the new WIFI network while still having the network printer work. If I setup TC to "join another network" and put into bridge mode, I can no longer communicate with network printer. Can I choose "share internet" in OSX system preferences> Sharing on iMac, connect wirelessly through iMac and have TC function as a simple network switch somehow while being able to communicate with printer.
    Thanks

First, before I get into too much detail: Is it even possible to set up a WPA2 network directly from the iMac without a separate router?
    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
Despite the fact that WPA2 encryption has existed for years, Apple hasn't seen fit to include that option in its "Internet sharing" feature.

  • Connection DV-2020 with Time Capsule?

    Hello,
    I have looked (almost) everywhere.
Does anybody know settings for TC in connection wth a Tele2 DV-2020?
I mean the option without bridging the TC?
    Thanks in advance, Wouter

If you do not use voip you can bridge the TC.. second if.. your ISP allows pppoe client access.
I am not in Europe but looking at the details of the modem, it is standard broadcom and bridging the modem should not be difficult.
If you want to run both the TC and the DV-2020 as routers, then you will double NAT.. there is no way to get around that unless you buy a block of IP addresses from your ISP.
The TC will complain about double NAT but you can switch it to ignore. You can also use DMZ if the DV-2020 offers it.. look up the manual .. DMZ simply passes all unconnected packets to the DMZ IP address. This can help if not totally eliminate the double NAT issue.
Why do you particulary need to use the router in the TC.. it is nothing wonderful.

  • How can I limit connection time of a device with Time Capsule?

I would like to limit the time certain members of my family can use their devices during the week.  While the built in parental controls on Apple OS are ok, I am now faced with multiple devices (eg, iPod, MacBook, non Apple devices, etc), and it seems like the easiest way to manage connection time would be through the router - eg, via the MAC address and some time allocation per calendar day.
Is there any way to achieve this with Time Capsule?  Failing that, any other ideas are welcomed.
    G

A quick google will get you the answer.. yes.. use the access controls.

Bob Timmons has written this up a number of times.
Look specifically for his posts.. you will need to use google as apple search is utterly useless.

If you are unfortunate enough to only have Mountain Lion you may need to also google for loading the 5.6 utility.

  • Lost connection with Time Capsule (Office for Mac programmes run down)

My colleague and I work at the office with 2 Macbooks. Both are connected wirelessly to the Time Capsule, which we use as a shared hard disk. We use Office 2008 for Mac. Now Word and Excel run down often after of little things like doing a search or cutting and pasting. I get the spinning ball can only do a forced quit to end the program. This is frustrating and time consuming!
A friend told me to change my UID, cause my colleague and I both have the same UID (501) at our Macbooks. He downloaded Server Admin Tools to change my UID into 1001 with Work Group Manager. But when I arrived at the office this morning I didn't have a connection with the Time Capsule. To be able to work I changed the UID back to 501 again (but now I can't open excel document inless I drag them to the hard disk of my Macbook).
The friend is not a Apple professional so he doens’t know how to help me anymore. Does anyone else have a suggestion?

Temporarily, try connecting an Ethenret cable from your Mac to one of the LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule
Open AirPort Utility and Click Manual Setup
Click on the word "Status" (2nd Line) and a window will open to with information about why the light is flashing amber

How can I connect my new MacBook Air to a LaCie hard disk with TIme Capsule backup from my old Imac? LaCie has USB 2.0, FireWire and eSata ports.

You can direct connect your MBA to the LaCie via USB 2 cable.  If you have an Apple Airport Router you can USB connect the LaCie drive to the router and then use Airport Utility to configure it.  Time Machine can access it either way.
