How to Connect iBook with HDTV for iMovie?

How can I connect my iBook G4, which has iMovie 7, to an HDTV (or its VCR) in order to download the HDTV's digital file, for iMovie? 12/9/2008. My own answer follows. I phoned Apple Tech Support and they did not know. I phoned Computer Discount Warehouse Tech Support where I bought my iBook and they did not know. I phoned the Apple Store and they did not know, but said it would take a cord with the three--red, white, yellow--plugs for the TV set into a firewire plug for the iBook. I phoned Radio Shack and they did not know nor have such a cord. I phoned MacMall and they did not know. Finally I phoned Canopus who makes the converter to use between an analogue TV and my iBook, and they said that the converter would also accept the digital to digital signal from the TV VCR (after mid February 2009 TV change to digital) to my iBook. Connecting iBook G4 to TV - cables OK, but not working

Hi. I bought an apple video adapter and plugged this into my TV via an additional S-video cable. I have plugged in the audio (mac to TV via jack / RCA).
The sound works fine. No image on the TV
I have set the TV on the right channel (AV5 in my case is the S-video), and get moving grey stripes (vs. static image if not plugged in).
Is there anything I need to do on the computer eg. set some preferences so it recognizes the need to output to TV?
Any other idea? I'm very frazzled, as working out which cables to get already took me some time!

Wow, Alex, this is like Christmas all over again! Thank you for being so patient with me and taking the time.
My TV is a SONY BRAVIA 40" KDL-40S2010 model. From what I understand, I have:
- HDMI
- VGA
- component
- S-video
- 2 peritels (I think they're called SCARTs in English)
- and audio L/R of course in 4 different areas according to the above
With my current ibook G4, you tell me I only have a mini-VGA out which is analog, so I'm happy to stick with the current S-video connection, because:
- the alternative VGA connection would also be analog - no point in changing?
- I don't see DVI-D on the TV and don't see the point of analog to digital anyway
My only current problem is that I find the S-video connection surprisingly poor.
I know not to expect the same resolution as a computer screen, but it is only just readable, and certainly excludes using the TV as an alternative or extended monitor for any purpose.
For video it is lousy but watchable.
I tried all three resolution options on the mac and played with all image formats on the TV.
MY QUESTION: is this normal???? Something tells me that it can't be - not this bad!
And since you're so kind, I'll test a hypothetical question: given my TV which I just bought and won't change for some time soon, if I upgrade my computer to a current MacBook Intel model (not a MacBook Pro), what would be the best audio & video connection to the TV?
If you answer this you definitely deserve a bottle of (French!) wine if you come through Paris!

Connecting iBook G3 as second monitor for iBook G4

I want to know if (and then how) I can connect my iBook G4 (running on OSX (10.4.5)) to an iBook G3, ultimately connecting the iBook G3 to a data projector, so that I can use presenter tools in PowerPoint.

If I understand what you want to do, you want to use another iBook as a second monitor. Is that correct? If so, there's no way to get video into the second iBook. There's only a video output. You can connect your iBook to another monitor now or to a video projector. The image on the second monitor would mirror the iBook's. Screen Spanning Doctor allows you to have the desktop span across two monitors. Be aware though that SPDr is a system hack and could void your warranty if you use it.

Distortion when connecting iBook to Sony Projector

I have an iBook G4, 1Ghz, 10.4.11, 1.25GB RAM, Keynote '08
When I connect the iBook to any TV using composite, S-video, or 15-pin VGA I get a crystal clear picture. But when I use it at work with a Sony VPL-CX86 projector the picture is distorted on the screen. There is a slight distortion (scratch marks) using the 15-pin connection, and a terrible distortion (flowing lines of "noise") using composite and s-video.
I cant imagine that there is something wrong with the iBook since it works fine when connected to a TV, but Im wondering if there is? Or is there something I can do with the projector to fix the picture?

OK... problem solved! But new questions arise.
I found that when my iBook was plugged in to the AC adapter, it created "noise" on the projector picture. But when I connect the iBook to the projector and use battery power, the picture is crystal clear. Weird, but now I know that something in the power supply causes the picture to distort... Now I just charge up the iBook before I need to use it.

Connecting ibook to TV

My daughter just got a 14" iBook for college. It has a 60 GB hard drive, 512MB memory and built in airport. Is there a way to connect the iBook to a television that has component video and s-video connections so that she can watch DVD's on the TV?
It appears that the computer has firewire ports, USB ports, 2 phone/modem ports and another rectangular sort of port that I don't know its' function, but not an S video out port.

KAREPA, you might want to post this in the iBook forum, but you can definitely connect the iBook to a TV with the $19 Apple Video Adapter. This will allow you to connect the iBook to the TV's S-Video or composite video connections. Just type "Apple Video Adapter" in the search field at the online Apple Store and you can read about it.
That will take care of your video, but you still need to connect the audio out on the iBook to the audio port on the TV. That will require a mini to RCA stereo cable like this one at Radio Shack:

Connect iBook to LCD TV?

Hi,
Wonder if anyone can help...I am trying to connect my iBook G3 to my Phillips LCD TV. My problem is the cable. I am using the supplied DVI to VGA connector, however my TV has the same VGA connection on it. In other words two females and it therefore will not connect together.
I understand another option is to use the Apple S-Video + headphone jack for sound. Is this the only option or is one able to get hold of a DVI to "male" VGA connector.

Reading Douglas McLaughlin's User Tip:
Because the Apple Video Adapter is video only, you will also need to buy an audio "Y" cable to get the audio out of your headphone port and into your TV. If you have already purchased an Apple A/V Cable and your computer requires the Apple Video Adapter for the video, you can still use the A/V Cable for the audio out of your iBook.
So, yes, it's normal not to get audio with just the video cable.

Connect IBook G4 to Panasonic Stereo via iMic and Toslink to Mini Cable?

I don't have an Airport Express and I want to record from cassettes (and LPs with a higher quality input). The only output from my 5 year stereo (apart from the headphone jack) is an Optical out (which the manual says is for connecting digital devices and suggests you can connect a Mini CD player). What I want to know is can I connect a Toslink (optical) to mini cable (such as the Monster Interlink Lightspeed 100TM) from my stereo to my iMic and then the iMic to the iBook and then use the software I've tested with recording LPs directly from the turntable to the iMic to record the cassettes and any other output from the stereo? Hopefully someone will know the answer to this before I spend £40 on a cable. I phoned the Apple store and asked them and they really didn't know. I've also emailed Griffin Technology in the hope that they might know. I also thought I'd try posting on here to see if anyone knows.

Unbelievable but true! I've managed to solve the issue yesterday on my own.
For those who are interested and didn't find a forum that helped much, here is an easy manual:
Boot with normal Monitor using a normal DVI cable.
Start Teamviewer so you can follow the next steps on an iPad, iPhone etc.
Unplug normal monitor.
Now use a DVI cable with HDMI at the other end.
Plug in Panasonic Plasma TV by using the above mentioned cable.
Now the plasma stays black, no signal arrives. Look at the iPad via Teamviewer and open monitor settings.
This should show that the Panasonic has now been found.
Switch the resolution to 1280x720.
Tataaaaa!
The Plasma TV now proudly shows the content of your Mac Mini PowerPC. Play with further settings in order to optimize the display width etc. Set the TV to 16x9 manually.

What cable to connect ibook 2005 to tv

I have a ibook circa 2005 i just want to connect it to a lcd samsung tv, struggling to get lead, the recommended one for post may 2010 ibooks is too small, (Thunderbolt i think) simillar fitting but too narrow. The recommended one for pre 2009 is completely different fitting (the one with the two screws) please help a clueless mac user, thanks

I want to connect an iBook G4 to an Epson projector. How do I do it? The projector has a blue multipin socket as standard and a plug in card, presumably for wireless networking. My Pogue manual does not mention projectors at all. I suspect I have to change the output from LCD screen to something else, but I can't find any way of doing this. Any help gratefully received

Connect IBOOK g3 to netgear model wpn824v2

I just inherited an Ibook G3. I have a netgear Model WPN824v2 wireless router. I am not able to get an internet connection wirelessly. The ibook shows my wireless network name, but when I enter my password, the ibook says it isn't a good password. I am totally confused. Please help

My iBook also doesn't connect to our NetGear Router with wireless N standard. Our router is supposed to be backward compatible with wireless b and g standards but I think this is at the heart of our problem. If I discover anything I'll let u know. I intend to borrow a belkin usb wireless n adapter or similar and see if I can get to it that way or be logging into it from the Vista computer and checking that it is enabled for the older standard.
I will be watching this to see if our problem is resolved.

Connect ibook G3 to Express base station extended network?

Can someone tell me if what I would like to do is possible: I've just intalled an AirPort Extreme as my base station in my WDS. My other Macs are connecting to the new network I created - let's call it Foo - just fine. My iBook G3 cannot connect to Foo (because it's not compatible, right? I just keep getting 'There was an error connecting to Foo'). So I've set up an AirPort Express to 'extend the network' and share the internet connection of Foo (because I also want it to be able to play iTunes in the kitchen, where it is). I've called this new base station 'Pi'. So shouldn't I be able to setup my iBook G3 to get the internet connection from Pi? It's not readily available in the AirPort dropdown menu. Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

No, the base stations have different names, but the network name must be the same when setting up each of the base stations. The problem is probably that you need to set EACH of the base stations to also use the 802.11b standard to include the slower G3 AirPort card.

When the iBook tries to connect in its AirPort icon, use the "Other..." and enter the encryption method first, then the network name (not the base station's name), and finally the password. It should connect. You really should change it so that your base stations use WPA2. As long as the Macs have the same updated Tiger OS, they are capable of personal WPA2.

The one you're in now is for the G4 mini-tower so the hardware is quite a bit different.

Can anyone tell me which cables I need to connect my iBook G4 to my Samsung LN-R238W HD TV? Which adapter works? Which cables do the best job? Does the iBook even have a VGA output?

I would like to use it to watch DVDs primarily, to display my desktop is merely secondary effect.

Hi! As Duane said THIS adapter plugs into the iBook and then you can connect the vga monitor cable to it. The cable plugs into the port next to the headphone jack and has an icon that looks like a tiny monitor. The jack is on the right of the usb ports. Your tv would have to have a vga input jack. Tom

Connecting Ibook to TV - Need Help

Hello. First of all let me thank all the kind people here on the forum. My computer died a few months ago, and the screen has basically died. Im looking to use my laptop through my tv. I have read the support sections of this site and am a tad confused. I have an Ibook G4 - 1.33 Ghz. I need to know what cable i should purchase in order to connect it to my tv. Thanks for your help.

You can buy a Ethernet to HDMI cable from any electronics store.
I have never heard of such a thing. A Google search turned up nothing.
Additionally, even if you have such a device how do you tell the iBook to send video out the Ethernet port?
Please verify which port this cable uses.
