Connection issue on new infinity

Hi, would appreciate if anyone can shed some light on the issue I'm having.
I live a fair distance from the local village, so I can't get full infinity, but I do have infinity to a certain point, then copper cable for the rest of the distance.
Well aware I'm not going to get amazing speeds, but I was estimated at getting between 11 and 18Mb (compared to my old 1.5Mb it's a huge upgrade).
Got switched on yesterday, and was slightly disappointed when I tried my first download. I registered max speeds of around 6Mb, so did a bit of snooping around looking at my settings etc, tried a router reset and looked at the connection speed. Something I also noticed was my upload speed is even worse than when I was just on normal BB, used to be circa 0.3Mb upload, now 0.16.
So I checked the connection status on the router, and it's showing a connection speed of 14.xxMb and upload was something daft like 0.18. So the upload speed marries up (even though it's rediculously slow) but the download speed doesn't make sense, considering I'm connected at 14Mb but I'm only getting download speeds of 6Mb (600kbps, whereas I surely should be seeing speeds of 1.4/5mbps)?
Am I right to think something is amiss here? To be fair I really don't mind the speed at the moment, I can finally stream youtube at 720, whereas 360 was pushing it before
There's a couple of thing's I'm going to try tonight, as I'm using a very old long run of cat4 to connect to the router at the moment. So I'll move the router close to the pc and try the cable that came with the hub. Also, haven't tried wireless speeds yet which would also show a problem with the wired connection.
I would phone up BT but really don't want to talk to India again as you just go round and round in circles.
Solved!

Cat4 cable consists of four unshielded twisted-pair (UTP) copper wires with a data rate of 16 Mbit/s and performance of up to 20 MHz.

  • Wierd connectivity issue with new devices

I've got a HomeHub2 linked via the Infinity service at home, had for a while with an array of devices hanging off the wireless (2 x Dell laptop, 1 x Sony, 1 iPad and a Blackberry) and wired connections (BT Vision, Xbox 360, Windows Media Center, Panasonic Blu-ray) - all working fine
I got an advent laptop as a gift someone and was setting it up and neither wireless or wired connections would work.  I could see the wireless lans and I could enter my WPA key and it would appear to connect but gave the yellow triangle and listed it as "No internet access".... So I took the laptop back to PC world and they replaced with a HP laptop.
This is suffering exactly the same problem, the only common part of the two systems are Realtek network devices on both laptops and Windows 7.
I have Win7 on 5 of my existing machines, so thats "probably" not the cause.  But has anyone else seen this issue ?

I don't think that Windows 7 will be causing the problem... The only constant in both situations is the wifi adapter.
The hub is set as mixed mode WPA/WPA2 as standard. I'd give it a try and change it to normal WPA in the hub manager.. Then try to connect with the new laptop. See if that fixes it.
As far as I can remember, you shouldn't have to change any of your other wireless devices to do that. Although they will drop for a moment when you change the security mode. After that, they should detect the hub automatically and reconnect.

  • Connection Issues with BT infinity + HH3

I have had BT infinity installed for a couple of months now and I have got some issues with the connection that I am getting.
Now the Internet connection speed is not a issue getting about 35mb wired and 26mb over Wi-Fi and is pretty stable.
But when using my iPad 2 and watching a youtube video even at the lowest quality (using the App or Website) sometimes the video will often stop loading at a point and will not load the rest of the video so the video will just stop. This does not happen on my laptop.
This also affects the BBC iPlayer App, where I cannot even get a programme to even start playing. This all worked fine with BT Option 3.
It also effects Apps like Twitter were loading new tweets in the timeline can sometimes take forever for just a bit of text.
My Xbox 360 also will not connect to the WiFi at "N" only at "G". Even though I have one of the new style Xbox 360's that has Wireless N. Also i find the Download speeds realy slow. Took nearly 30 Miniutes to download a 1.3 GB file compared to about 6-8 on my laptop.
The one computer that i connected to the HH3 via a Ethernet cable has the most issues where it can take many minutes to load up the simpliest webpage like eBay. This problem does not happen all of the time but useally a couple of time per week. And what seems to happen is you click on a link and nothing happens then everthing loads.
Has anybody got any of these issues as this laptop seems to be fine but the iPad will not also load the content, and the computer that shouyld be the fastest seems to sometimes be the speed of a dial-up Modem.
Apart from getting rid of the HH3 and getting someting like a Apple Airport Extreme are there any other soloution to why this happens. This is not what i thought BT Intinty would be like.

It could be a dodgy router but check the following first
    1) All connections are set to use DHCP(automatic)  rather than fixed IP addresses and that the IP list on the Hub does not contain duplicate entries.
    2) As the wired connection is running slowly it is unlikely to be a wireless conflict but use Inssider 2 to ensure you are not using a crowded channel the HH3 is supposed to do this automatically but seems flaky
You could try getting a new Hub sent to you but unless you feel rich or have Apple shares there are cheaper cable routers than the Apple ones around  & any router that offers PPOE will work. Plenty of reviews on the web and you can buy them from £20 up.

  • Connection Issues after new Cert CA

This past weekend I found that our organizational CA expired so had to delete/recreate it and issue new certificates to all of my servers. Since doing this I am finding that I still have issues connecting to my iFolder server. I've followed the instructions on the Novell Wiki article "Recreating Server Certificates on OES Linux" but even after completing the steps, restarting the server, and deleting the account on the iFolder client, I am keep getting a generic "Unable to connect to iFolder" error message. I'm not finding anything in the log files indicating an error, but I'm also not sure if I'm looking in the correct place (%USER%/AppData/simias). Because of the CA change I'm suspecting that a core service cert might have been issued off of the old CA, I'm just not sure if this is a good guess or what to check next. Any ideas? Thanks!

Did you also rerun the OES2 configuration and reconfigure iFolder? That should import the new certificate for use with iFolder (for the secure LDAP authentication bit).
I can't check the exact steps atm... it might also be enough to follow the steps in this TID : Your session has been closed Please log in error when accessing iFolder Admin Console
As added note, next to the wiki article you mention (I think you mean this one: Recreating Server Certificates on OES Linux - CoolSolutionsWiki) , there is also a good script that can replace other certificates for you that can be found here : Certificate Re-creation Script for OES1 and OES2 | Novell User Communities

  • Range and connection issues with new WRT400N

I'm having two major problems with my brand new WRT400n. The router is located in the basement and wired to my seven-year-old desktop. Dependent on the router are three laptops located two floors above it.
My first issue is the weaker-than-expected signal strength that my laptop is receiving from the router. The best signals I'm getting for the 2.4ghz and 5ghz configurations are "Good" and "Poor", respectively, which is below the maximum rating of "Excellent". Even when I bring my laptop right beside the router, I'm struggling to achieve an "Excellent" signal strength. The speed and connection are otherwise fine but my neighbor's G router is registering an "Excellent" signal. So for a brand new N router to give weak signals is quite irritating.
The second issue is reliability. I'm consistently losing connection - both wired and wirelessly -  every hour. The connection and speed are fine the rest of the time (very quick and stable) but every 60 minutes or so I am forced to reconnect my laptop to get the signal
Any possible solutions to these two common problems? Perhaps some tinkering with the router settings? Any recommendations are welcome and much appreciated.
How does the warranty return policy for Linksys work? If the hardware is to blame  how can I send my WRT400N to Linksys? Will Linksys send me a new item?
    Much thanks in advance.

I'm in Canada so I have a WRT400N-CA made by Cisco, which may have minute differences with the original model.
    Basic Wireless Settings
    Configuration View: Manual
     5GHz Wireless Settings
    Network Mode: Mixed
    Channel Width: 40/20MHz
    Wide Channel: 159
    Standard Channel: 161 - 5.805GHz
    SSID Broadcast: Enabled
    2.4GHz Wireless Settings
    Mixed
    40/20 MHz
    9
    11 - 2.462GHz
    Enabled
Also, under the "Advanced Wireless Settings" tab, the 5GHz titles Beacon Interval, DTIM Interval, Fragmentation Threshold, and RTS Threshold have been changed to 75, 1, 2304, 2307, respectively. The 2.4GHz section has been untouched since installation of the router. Basically I searched for settings configurations on this forum and plugged in the values. My connection is slightly more reliable after using these values and installing the firmware; instead the connection dropping once every hour it drops every few hours. I always have to disconnect and re-connect my laptop connection before I can start surfing the web.

  • [solved] connectivity issues with new connection....

Hey all, I recently moved and had to get a new internet connection.  Because cable is so expensive in the city (~$57/mon for 1.5MB Cable) I went with DSL (~$36/mon for 3.0MB DSL).
I have the standard SBC DSL modem, connected to my wireless router.  I'm 90% sure the wireless connection is stable.  The phone lines may be crappy in this building, but I've switched to different sockets here and there.  I'm not sure exactly what it is, but my connection intermittently hangs - no, wlan0 stays connected so it's not that.
What I'm looking for is a way to diagnose this... some logging tool that would be able to tell me where my hang is... I'm not a network guru, so I really wouldn't know what to do...
Thanks for any help you can provide...

phrakture wrote:OT: Think it would hurt anything to remove the fan connector from the processor on an 866P3 - the heatsink is pretty large, but the fan is irritating sounding and I don't feel like paying $20 for a good fan for a shitty machine
You can drop it's noise quite a bit by using an adjustable rheostat and using the 5/12 connections to power it.  That's an old OC'er trick.  With your older P3 rig, I doubt the mobo has a fan speed detector, limiting you from posting.  If it does, it won't work since it needs a ground at 0V.  Basically, you'll be running your fan at a slower speed.
Check the OC forums.  I'm sure they dot links to do it.
Oh, by the way Phrakture, I remember my old P3 800.  I had it with just a heatsink for a while, but it ran too hot for my tastes.  I got away with a bare naked PII-400 all the time, but I've been too afraid since then.
[edit]By the way, here's some info for a 7V fan. Just do a google on "7V" fan and you'll get the results I was talking about earlier.  Basically,
" You use the yellow 12v wire as the power connector to the fan and use the red 5v connector as the fan ground.  The fan sees the potential difference between the 12v and the 5v so is run at 7 volts.  Fans can be run at 5v but some will fail to start and air flow is low."[/edit]

  • Exchange 2010 SP3 Rollup 8v2 causes client connectivity issues

I installed SP3 Rollup 8v2 this weekend, going from 7. Since then we are having random client connectivity issues. New profiles can't be created, and some users can't access resources when booking meetings. We can do a registry fix to their machines to add
a DS Server, but this is a workaround only. I have uninstalled the Rollup 8v2 and we are still having the issue.
I thought 8v2 was supposed to fix this issue!

    Hi,
According to your post, I understand that outlook client cannot connect to Exchange server to configure profile and cannot get list of resources room when upgrade to Exchange 2010 SP3 Rollup 8v2, the temporary solution is that specify the DC in registry.
If I misunderstand your concern, please do not hesitate to let me know.
Is there error message when configure Outlook failed?
Please run Test E-mail AutoConfiguration and Outlook connection status to double confirm the URL and FQDN of Exchange server.
As additional, please run below command to double check the state of Exchange system component:
    Get-ServerComponentstate -Identity “servername”
If the state is Inactive, please run below command to active relevant component:
Set-ServerComponentState <Identity> -Component “component name” -Requester HealthAPI -State Active

  • New infinity line and major speed issues with almo...

    Hi,
Just has infinity installed after moving from my previous FTTC provider.  With the previous provider i was getting 16 down / 1-2 up and it worked great.
Had my my new inifnity line put in on thrsday and i am getting 17 down / 0.5 up!!
I work from home and connect to the office via vpn and remote desktop and its almost unusable.  Laggy, slow, unrepsonsive and is constantly dropping the connection with a failed to read from socket error and is making it very difficult to work form home effectively.
I have a 4g EE modem also and if i switch to this it is like lightening compared.
I also had absolutely no connection issues with my previous provider and as i posted above had a mich better uplink speed - which is where i think im getting most of my issues.
When i signed up to BT this is what i was sent via email:
We estimate your download speed will be 19.1Mb.
We estimate your upload speed will be 3.9Mb.
Im fine with the download but the uplink is shocking compared to the estimate - and as i had much better before i think something is amiss.
Also when i signed up i was told that if i had any connection issues with the new line i had to notify BT within 7 days and it woudl eb investingated but it seems there are so many roadblocks to creating support tickets etc.. Its like it s been hard to report a fault on purpose.
Where can i create a support ticket or similar to get this looked at?
    Thanks
    Damian

As you use the internet for work purposes did you have business broadband with your previous provider ?
This is the Residential forum. You may be better posting on the BT Business forum.

  • My brand new mac pro always had Internet connection issues at school. WHY is that? I see the school's Internet working perfectly fine on other PC's, but there is never a day where my mac doesn't have Internet connection issues at school. How do I fix it?

I got my mac pro in the middle of August. School started the week after. Internet was working perfectly fine at home. But at school, I never had a good connection. Sometimes on the good days I get a connection when I'm sitting at the exact spot in class I always sit at. It's ridiculous and it's frustrating. I invested my money into this laptop and I'm beginning to regret it. I thought it was the school's Internet, but I don't see Internet issues with other PC users. It's most frustrating on registration days and I'm trying to register for my classes before it gets taken, but again... Internet connection issues. It's random. Majority of the time, it doesn't work at all. I've done Network Diagnosis and turning WiFi off then turning it on again. I've done everything I could. I put my money on this laptop and it was a lot of money. I could have bought an 800 dollars laptop and I would have Internet connection anywhere on campus. So, I don't want to continue everyday to regret on buying this laptop every time I try to connect to the Internet at school or Starbucks or anywhere else. How do I fix this? What's the problem ?
At school, I heard this guy had a problem with Internet connections too and he owned a new mac book pro. He said something like Apple messed up on something, but he fixed it. If I knew mac book pro's had these issues I wouldn't have bought it in the first place. It's freezing on me every other day. It's ridiculous. But what concerns me the most is the Internet connection. So someone please tell me what can I do next to prevent the problem? Am I doing something wrong maybe?

    Hi Kevin,
I'm using an XLR input mic which is connected to the phantom power enabled XLR mic socket on a USB M-Audio M-Track. The M-Track is connected by USB to the Mac Pro - so effectively I've got an M-Audio USB soundcard with a mic input.  I've also tried a microphone that is a straight XLR to USB cable (guessing with some soundcard chip buried in the usb plug) but that also yields the same effect of bad latency, intermittent quality, stuttering and repeating and echoing (without the speakers on during record so its not feedback).
The mic works absolutely fine with other recording applications I have on the mac at the moment - albeit non-adobe ones (tested it on the EasyAudioRecorder - and it lives up to its name. it's easy)
I will try with Audition and report back, but sitting here right now I can imagine it would work fine with audition too - it just seems to be the way premiere is set up for recording into the timeline is a bit sketchy.  I'm willing to accept it might well be a quirk with the new Mac Pro trashcan - I'm not weighting all the woes on premiere.
Any thoughts or am I out of luck to sit with my fingers crossed for a fix in the next round of updates?
    Nathan.

  • My iPhone 4S Bluetooth will not connect with either my iPad1, MacBook Pro or Automobile BT.  Suspect a stack issue in new BT 4.0 (BTLE) release. Has any one discovered fix to this. I have tried this with two separate 4S phones and have same problem..

One further clarification. I am most concerned with connecting with BT in automobile. I can use WiFi to tether to my other devices.  I cannot change the car very easily! My iPhone 3G had no connection issues.

I'm new.  Same bluetooth problem. Will not pair with my 2010 VW GTI w NAV system, or my MacBook Pro 17" (just discovered the MacB prob.)
When I initially discovered the problem I went to an Apple Store. Genius was excellent but requested that I check with VW.  VW people were very helpful. A mechanic had an iphone 4s. He came out to the car ... He could not pair my phone but he could pair his phone ... So, it's the iphone ... Back to the Apple Store ... the genius was really good. He replaced the iphone. Great !  So, back out to the car & it would not pair, still.  So ... can't be the phone , right.  Back to VW. The Audi manager had an iphone 4S. He paired his phone with my car. He could not pair my phone to my car. He tries my phone in a new 2011 GTI sitting on the lot ... my phone pairs with it just fine.  So ... it's my car.  So ... make an appointment to get the bluetooth module replaced. They replace the Bluetooth module. My iphone will not pair.  They end up pairing 2 different iphone 4S to my car ... but not my iphone 4S. My iphone 4S will also not pair with another 2010 GTI they have in for service. Though the 2 iphone 4S
pair with the second GTI just fine.  They even try pairing my iphone with a brand new 2012 GTI in the showroom ... yep ... it paired fine.    So ... ????????????????
They are going to update my nav software next (tomorrow), Hopeful ??? not really ... Will be taking my computer to Apple Store next ... maybe if they can discover why it will not pair to my MacBook Pro it will lead to a solution for the GTI ???  I'll get back to you.

  • We recently switched ISPs. To connect to the new ISP our Airport Extreme has to be in bridge mode. Now our Nintendo Wii won't connect to the Airport. Is it an issue with bridge mode that is causing this?

We recently switched ISPs. To connect to the new ISP our Airport Extreme has to be in bridge mode. Now our Nintendo Wii won't connect to the Airport. Is it an issue with bridge mode that is causing this? We're running two Macs wirelessly with no problems.  And the Wii did connect before the switch.

Hello and thanks for the reply.  I gave this a try, turned off Airport on one of the computers and tried the Wii again.  Still no connection.  I should say that we're also running an old G4 (wired) off the Airport as well, with no problems.  I've tried many things to make the Wii to work, including power cycling the Airport, turning off the security settings in the Airport, resetting the Airport to it's default and redoing the network, resetting the network setting on the Wii (several times), moved the Airport closer to the Wii, all with no luck.  The Wii "sees" the Airport but won't connect to it.  I'm at a loss for anything else to try, so any help is appreciated.

  • BT Infinity and https connection issues

I have sporadic issues with https connections on my BT Infinity service.
I used to be on Virgin ADSL and had no issues.
I can also use a Orange mobile dongle with no issues if I switch to that when experiencing problems with BT.
    Some example sites:
    Dixons checkout pages
    NatWest banking pages
    Anyone else experience this?
Should I periodically reboot the HomeHub and VDSL?
    Cheers,
    Jason.

Can someone on Infinity kindly do me a test and visit https://upgrades.o2.co.uk/index.htm and tell me if it's darn slow for you too?  It's not the site as I'm loading up VNC and connecting to a VPS in America and it's instantly loading. It'll definitely rule out traffic shaping if someone on Infinity can tell me either way.
    Thanks you generous souls!!!

It says you have the wrong password.

Reset the TC to factory and start again.
But do not be surprised if the v5 utility no longer works to do the setup.

  • BT Infinity HTTPS connection issues- anyone else?

    Hi all.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I have been having considerable problems with HTTPS sites over the past few months - timing out, unable to make payments online with ClickSafe - Lloyds Bank, Natwest, NEXT, National Lottery. Some HTTPS sites load eventually but usually very very slowly or time out.
This issue is across all my devices - Macbook Pro, iPad Air, Samsung Tablet, Windows 8 Laptop, x3 iPhone 5.
If I switch WiFi off on my iPhone I can make payments over the mobile phone network fine but as soon as I switch WiFi on the problems occur again. I took my Laptop to a friends house and used their TalkTalk Broadband and no issues, all worked fine.
I have had 2 HH4 and now a HH5 and the problem still occurs.
I have Changed numerous settings, undertaken numerous reboots and complete resets to no avail.
I have enabled firewalls and disabled firewalls, changed MTU and numerous other possible fixes, but again none have worked.
I have paid for BT Tech Expert support who have been very helpful  and always called back when they have said they would but they do not know what the problem is and are still working on it. Next call on Monday night.
I found this very long thread starting in 2011 and ending in February 2013, where BT customers were experiencing the exact same problems in the South West of England and it turned out to be a network issue that was resolved but it does not explain how it was resolved!

I am in Newcastle upon Tyne and would be grateful if anyone could let me know if they are having the similar problems?
    Thanks for your help.

To try changing DNS server on your Windows 8 laptop, see this Microsoft note.
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki/windows8_1-networking/how-to-change-ipv4-dns-server-...
You can use 8.8.8.8 as they suggest, as that is Google public DNS.
If that fixes the problem on the laptop, it would point to a problem with BTs DNS servers.
There are some useful help pages here, for BT Broadband customers only, on my personal website.
