hi....connect the computer to the router and access the router using http://192.168.1.1 ... once on the ui , go to the wireless tab and change the ssid - any non-linksys name , radio band - wide , wide channel - 9 , standard channel - 11 , encryption - wpa2
then on the computer , go to network and sharing center >> manage wireless network connection >> add a wireless network as per the router settings
see whether this helps you to get a wireless connection ..

  • Connecting to a Windows Vista share from an iMac

I just purchased the imac intel based pc and I am very new but a seasoned windows user. I connected my maxtor external storage to my imac but for the life of me cannot connect to a Windows Vista share. I keep getting a timed out message or I have the option of fixing or deleting the alias. It is a constant loop.
Has anyone done this successfully and will you share? I have turned on windows sharing in the system preferences. What else should I do?

I just figured it out myself.

  • Airport Extreme 802.11n connectivity issues with Windows Vista

I recently purchased the 802.11n airport exterme base station and set it up using my MacBook Pro laptop. During the configuration process I set the security to be WEP enabled since there are other computers on my network, one of which has only an 802.11b wifi card, that can only accept WEP security protocol. The set up worked great and I was surfing on the internet with my Mac in no time.
When I go to connect to the 802.11n extreme base station with my Windows Vista desktop PC, I cannot get any type of connection. I re-entered the Network SSID to match that on the AE base station and re-entered the WEP enabled password.
Is there a compatibility issue between the Airport Extreme Base Station and Windows Vista? I realize that the base station works on XP based PCs but not sure why it could not work on a Vista machine. Any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   1.83Ghz Intel Core Duo

Upon further review I determined the flaw with my earlier attempts to set up the airport exterme base station with my winodws vista desktop pc. I realized that I should not use a WEP key but rather a WPA key since the wireless adpater connected to my desktop is a wireless G enabled adapter that can handles WPA and WPA2 security.
Therefore, no issues with Vista and the airport extreme base station. Works great.

  • My Bluetooth can no't connect to my windows vista

I can't connect my iPhone 3GS virsion 3.1.3 to my labtop Windows Vista 32 bit by Bluetooth my computer can not find this driver: Bluitooth Peripheral Device
if it possible please advice me what should I do.
    thanks

I have that kind of problem too in the past and what I did was to manually find a driver that is compatible to the bluetooth. Just do a search in Google and try all the possible driver that matches with your system which will fix the bluetooth issue.

  • Solution to connect calander to Windows Vista 64 bit without Outlook.

Ok, if any of you are like me you like to use all the functions possible on the nano. Unfortunately for me I have one of the most challenging systems to work with trying to get media onto nano from computer and vise verse. I’m running Windows Vista 64 bit and I wanted to sync the calendar from my computer onto my nano. Long story short is if you contact Apple support they will most likely tell you that you have to download Outlook or Outlook express. Unfortunately Outlook is not exactly cheap and Outlook Express doesn’t work on the Vista. So you will have to find a different calendar to use. Two options exist for us Vista users, neither of them is automatic, but at least you can use the calendar.
Option #1: Optional calendar to use is called Microsoft Works Calendar. It is already pre install on Vista and has an option to export the calendar as an iCalender. How to use it is you fill in the calendar, then go to File> Export> iCalendar. A box pops open called Export iCalendar File. In that box select All appointments, by doing that I believe it over rides the range option. Then hit OK. Then the Save As box opens and you will have to save it into your nano’s calandar folder. And hit Save once you locate the nano’s calendar file. There you are done. Now every time you make a change to the calendar on your computer you do the same steps but always save the calendar as the same name so it will over write the existing calendar on your nano.
Option #2: This option is similar as above but it allows you to use any calendar you have on your computer that can save the calendar as a .ics file format. Choose the calendar of your option but before wasting any time filling in the calendar first check to see if the calendar can be saved as a .ics type. If the calendar of choice doesn’t allow you to save that type of file then it will not work and you will have to choose a different calendar to use. Once you find the calendar to use then you can fill it in as you need to. Then go to File> Save as> and select the save as type to be a iCalendar File (*.ics). And Save in you nano’s calendar file. Now you’re done. Remember though every time you want to update the calendar on your nano you will have to save it as the same name so it over writes the calendar on the nano and updates properly.
I know this doesn’t sync up automatically but it is the only way to use the calendar on nano if you don’t want to purchase Outlook, cause Apple only programmed itunes to work with Outlook or Outlook Express and they do not have any other options available.

  • HP Officejet 4500 G510n-z Wireless connection prints from Windows Vista but not from Windows 7

HP Officejet 4500 G510n-z printer appears to be connected to my Dell Notebook running Windows 7 on the HP Solution Center page but does not print.Documents just get stuck in the que. It was printing then it wasn't then it was then it wasn't. The printer works when I print from an older notebook running Vista. The last time this happened, I uninstalled and reinstalled HP software and that didn't seem to help. Then, for some inexplicable reason, printing started working. Now it has stopped working again.I can scan from the Windows 7 Notebook but no printing. I've tried all of the troubleshooting tools I could find without success. Thanks for trying to help.

    Hello-
It could be caused by a couple things :
    1. Firewall on PC or in router.
    2. wireless interference (ie microwave, cordless phone base @ 2.4 Ghz)
    3. distance from router
    4. corrupt print driver.
Turn off any firewalls you have and move anything that can cause interference away from router.
If none of the above resolves issue, I'll have you install another print driver.
    Click on start.
    Go to Devices and Printers.
    Click on Add a Printer.
Add a Local printer. Create a new Port and choose "Standard TCP/IP port.
    Hit Next.
Type in 192.168.1.12 in the Hostname or IP address box. (uncheck "Query the printer" box)
    Hit next.
When the Printer List opens up, click on windows update. ( this will take a few mins)
After the box shows up, Pick HP (not Hewlett Packard) on the Left and pick "Deskjet 990c" on the Right.
Click next, set as default, and finish.
Try to print using the Deskjet 990c.
Also, remember a click on the Kudos star to the left is a quick "Thanks" for a helpful post.
Please select the "Accept as Solution" button on the post that best answers your question.
    I appreciate your input !

  • Is there a good free application to remote connect to a windows vista comp?

I have been looking and unable to find a good application that allows one to remote connect through the iphone to a vista computer. If anyone has done this or knows an application capable of this please let me know. Thanks!

There is "LogMeIn" application for iPhone which you can purchase from the Apps store for about $30. On the target machine install a free application from
    https://secure.logmein.com/US/products/free/
... and off you go. Works like a charm. With the free version you won't be able to transfer files, ... but you can't do that with iPhone anyways.

I was previously able to connect my iphone with my work computer (Windows Vista Enterprise) and it would recognize my phone. However, since I updated my iphone to version 2.1, it will not recognize the phone and gives me the following error message:
"iTunes could not connect to the iphone because an unknown error occured (0xE8000024)."
I am able to connect my phone with version 2.1 to my home computer running Windows XP SP2.
Any idea what may be causing the connection error in Windows Vista?

    Hey TranceCadet,
This could be caused by a USB connection issue.
Make sure the iPhone is directly connected to a high speed USB port on the PC and not plugged into a hub, monitor, or keyboard. Disconnect any other USB devices, other than the keyboard and mouse.

You may also want to disable or reconfigure any security software. This article will walk you through putting the PC in a selective startup mode, which will bypass most application conflicts.

  • Print wirelessly from SL MBP to Windows Vista-connected Printer

My father just got a MBP, after using PC's all his life. He is trying to print wirelessly to a Canon MX860 printer that is connected to his Windows Vista PC Desktop. There is little to no information that I can understand on the internet about how to make this happen. I found two 'suggestions', but neither seemed to work. Is it possible? Is there a walk-through somewhere that I can send to him?
Trying to make his first experience a positive one; this is making it difficult!

To make this as simple as possible he needs a wireless router. Then both his computers print to the printer through the router.

  • MacBook with Windows Vista Shared Folders

So, my question and the problem is, that I can't seem to make my MacBook connect to a Windows Vista shared folder (Default Public folder, or any other folder). I've tried pretty much everything on the windows end. I've reset the sharing options, started from scratch, and my MacBook still can't connect to it. When I use the smb://192.168.1.199 (windows machines ip), it hangs for maybe a minute, and gives me this message: "Finder can't complete the action, because some of the data in "smb://192.168.1.199" can't be read or written (Error -36)." Sorry for the typos, but i'm translating from Finnish to English.
Also, the funniest thing is that it worked previously, a week ago to be exact, and then, one day it just stopped working. I've tried almost anything that I can think of. Every setting is the way they were, when it still worked. Does anyone of you guys here, have any idea what could be causing this anomaly?

till now I did a great progress, I get see the windows vista server from my MAC (even when I get change a rule in the norton filrewall) and now the windows ask for a user and password, I create a user like I have in the MAC with the same password but all the time reject the connection, look I put the wrong password but isn't

  • Sharing a Deskjet D4160 (Windows Vista problem?)

I have an issue sharing a Deskjet D4160 printer.
It's connected to a Windows Vista Ultimate PC (USB), and prints perfectly from it.
HOWEVER, I am unable to share it.  It appears when I browse my network, but ALL OTHER machines (Vista AND XP)
get an 'unable to connect' message.
Have verified that all users have security permission for it, no firewall enabled on the hosting PC, as well as no firewalls on
any of the other PCs (Have a firewall device between my network and the outside world).
Any one have a suggestion as to where to look?
    Thanks in advance.

Your library and media should be preseved when reinstalling iTunes. See the Further Information area of Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for details and a backup tip.
Apple won't reach out and fix your computer now that something has gone wrong. How would they know? A new release of iTunes won't fix the proplem either as the installer won't do the clean out of the program installation folders that is needed prior to a clean reinstall.

  • Set up network for Windows Vista PC and MacBook

Hey guys. I am trying to share files and a printer connected to my Windows Vista PC. Yesterday I could see the Widnows "public" folders and be able to take files from them, but couldn't put files in the folders. Then I went and set up an account on both computer with the same exact user name and password (I saw thatw as necessary somewhere). However I can't print from my Mac through the PC. Somietimes when I go to add Windows printer under system prefs printers, I see the printer and sometimes I don't. Even when I see it, I can't get it to add correctly and work. I NEED HELP. I have no idea what I am doing wrong. The name of the wrokgroup on my PC is WORKGROUP. How can I check and make sure that is the same on my MacBook? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I have file and printer sharing on on both computers obviously

    I tried these steps here:
    http://articles.techrepublic.com.com/5100-10878_11-6174105.html
However I don't have a selection called share Windows in my sharing prefs, nor do I have a Utility called Directory Access
