Connection Name Change

About an hour ago our (secured) home wireless network (named 'Weehawken') changed to 'Linksys' and now appears to be unsecured unsecured.  I'm pretty  sure this Linksys connection is coming from our wireless router, since it only works when it's plugged in.
We can still get Internet, but I'm not sure if and why the name of our home network has changed.  Is there a chance this is some sort of hacking/virus?
Any help appreciated.  Thanks.

Welcome to the discussions!
+Anyway.... I was told by HP that i needed to change my network name ( without spaces) which I could only do by contacting apple. Can anyone help me change my network name to NOT include spaces? Also, has anyone heard of this being a reason why the printer does not pick up a network?+
If you want to change the name of your wireless network on the Time Capsule:
Open Hard Drive > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons
Look for Wireless Network Name and enter the new name of your network
Click Update to save settings and the TC will restart in 15-20 seconds
You will need to look for your new network when you want to log on using wireless on your computer(s) and enter the password to connect. This may or may not solve your connection issue with the printer, but its worth a try to follow HP's advice.

When launching Outlook and clicking through the setup wizard to create a new profile, Outlook auto-discovers the correct email alias. When establishing a connection it successfully checks network connectivity and successfully searches the email settings.
When it attempts to logon to the mail server the error comes up.
"The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action."
Clicking "Check Name" gives the error:
"The name cannot be resolved. The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action."
The same result occurs with a manual setup.
We are running Exchange Server 2013. User workstations are running Outlook 2013 on Windows 7 Pro. All updates have been applied as of March 31, 2015.
All name changes have been made in AD and Exchange. Old aliases and new aliases are set in Exchange. Offline Address books are updated daily. The local profile and registry settings have been updated on the workstation and the user is successfully logging
into the profile. The issue is only with Outlook 2013. User can access mail through OWA and ActiveSync on their mobile device.
Logging the user into another workstation and running the wizard returns the same results, which rules out the possible problem being with the workstation.

    Hi,
According to your description, I understand that failed auto-configure Outlook with error “The name cannot be resolved. The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable…”, however OWA works fine.
If I misunderstand your concern, please do not hesitate to let me know.
Are all account or any special user experience this question?
If OWA works fine, it indicate that the mailbox database is mounted, and mailbox works well.
I notice that you have changed the account name before issue arise, because external access, the client locates the Autodiscover service on the Internet by using the primary SMTP domain address from the user's email address.

  • Connection Errors to Remote Desktop from OSX after Domain name change

We have an issue using Microsoft Remote Desktop from Macs in our school. All was well until we changed the domain name of our RDS servers and installed a new wildcard certificate. Connections work perfectly in Windows 7/8 and also iOS on iPads, but we cannot
get any Macs to connect having tried OSX 10.7 and 10.9. The error message says the connection failed to load but seems to add a spurious end to the connection string - TS/en-US/Default.aspx - but we cannot trace where this is being picked up.
We can get to the site in a web browser and sign in to receive the "browser not supported" message in Safari so traffic is obviously getting to the severs.
Has anyone else had a similar issue? We have spent days poking around with DNS etc but can't seem to make any progress here.

    Hi Jeremy,
I have tried removing connections and also re-installing the App. We have been using this App since January with no real issues until we made our domain name change - I really don't understand why it works fine in Windows and iOS but not OSX. We are doing
nothing different to what we have done from day 1.
Log file from our old connection when it was working looked like this:

  • Using different data source and connection name

    Hi,
We have a requirement where the data source for our application is already configured on the server by name like MyDBDataSource. But the database connection name in our application is like My_DB. So application module is using data source name like My_DBDS. If i change data source name in application module configuration manually to be MyDBDataSource, then it fails at runtime. This has been identified as bug as mentioned in this post
    http://andrejusb.blogspot.in/2009/01/practical-adf-security-deployment-on.html
Is this still valid? I am using 11.1.1.6 version. Also want to know if there is any workaround for this ? If i change the name in web.xml at deployment time using script, will it work ?
    Thanks

    Hi Ami,
Is your issue get solved ?
I would like to mention few things about the database connection in application & data source in Weblogic.
    1. When you create a database connection in Application (for example say connection name as hr) then in the Application Module Database Configurations in the bc4j.xcfg File Custom JDBCDataSource will be set as <Custom JDBCDataSource="java:comp/env/jdbc/hrDS"/> for both ApplnModule shared & Local. So when you create data source in weblogic it is better to create the JNDI Name like jdbc/hrDS ( ie between the '/' and 'DS' you have to specify the name of database connection you created in the application ).What ever the Data source name is no matter.
2.If you change the JNDI name of data source later like jdbc/hrconnectionDS then it is better to delete the old hr connection from application and recreate a connection as hrconnection. After that you have to edit bc4j.xcfg file in the Application Module--> Configurations and set Custom JDBCDataSource as below for both local & shared config.
    <Custom JDBCDataSource="java:comp/env/jdbc/hrconnectionDS"/>
I hope this will help you.
    Gijith.

Please read my question carefully, this is, I think, a question for the experts. It's not the usual name change question.
When I setup my new MacBook Pro, something slipped by me and my computer was named First-Lasts-MacBook-Pro (using my real first and last name).
I changed the computer name in Preferences/Sharing to a new name and Preferences/Accounts to just be Mike. I can right click on my account name, choose advanced, and see that everything looks right.
However, If I do a scan of my network with my iPhone using the free version of IP Scanner, it lists my computer as First-Lasts-MacBook-Pro! And it lists the user as First-Last.
So even though another Mac just sees my new computer name, and my home folder is Mike, somewhere in the system the original setup with my full name is still stored. And it's available on a network scan. So my full name might show up at a coffee shop.
Can I fully change the name without doing a complete re-install of Lion and all my apps?

One thought... you said the iPhone displayed your computer's old name? I think that you must have used the iPhone with this computer before you changed the name. So no one else's iPhone should display your full name unless that iPhone had previously connected to your Mac. For example, I did this exact same change, and I use the Keynote Remote app to connect with my MacBook Pro. It would no longer link with my MacBook Pro under the old name, and I found that I had to unlink and then create a new link under the new name. So the answer to your question is, there is nothing you need to do on the Mac, but rather the phone, and no other phone will display your full name.

  • Connection name questions & problems

    Hi!
Is there a length limitation on HSODBC connection names? Or a uniqueness requirement?
I had 2 entries named "b0mausqldev1" and "b0mausqldev1_ald" and HSODBC always connected to "b0mausqldev1". The initb0mausqldev1_ald1.ora, listener.ora, tnsnames.ora and ODBC.INI were all correct. The solution was to change the name from "b0mausqldev1_ald" to "sqldev1_ald".
The ISQL utility (part of UNIXODBC/FREETDS) worked with all of the name variations so that leads me to believe it is an HSODBC / Oracle networking issue.
TNSPING reported a good connection but it is hard to tell which connection it was using.
I am using FREETDS and UNIXODBC, Oracle 9.2.0.1 on AIX; connecting to SQL Server 2000.
Also found out that Oracle does not like "-" in database link names. ;)
    Thanks!
    Dave Venus

    Officially:
The Oracle 9i Database Administrator's Guide lists the SID restrictions:
Each Oracle instance must have a SID. A SID us a unique name for an Oracle database that can be up to 64 alphanumeric characters in length.
But I've also seen problems in some versions with more then 12 characters as the listener didn't handle it correctly.
Commonly to diagnose this kind of problems a listener trace is more helpfull then the tnsping utility as TNSPING is NOT looking for any SID. It is just pinging the listener process and check if there is something alive on this machine and listening on this port.
So even it replies a success there is no guarantee the SID exists. You should always check the listener status as well.
If you want to check out which SID is used, you should enable LISTENER tracing:
    lsnrctl <ENTER>
    set TRC_LEVEL support
now open SQL*Plus and try the DB link
    afterwards disable tracing again:
    lsnrctl <ENTER>
    set TRC_LEVEL off
    Now examine the trace file.
    As a final word:
Keep in mind HSODBC has been desupported 15th of March and you should move to the follow up product DG4ODBC V11. This requires in your case to apply the 9.2.0.8 database patchset AND to apply also the compatibility patch 5965763.

  • Connection name not defined

I recently upgraded JDeveloper to 11.1.2.2.0 and now when I try to run the sample from The Ultimate Human Resource I get the following error:
    <DCBindingContainer> <cacheException> [74] * * * BindingContainer caching EXCEPTION:oracle.jbo.JboException
    <DCBindingContainer> <cacheException> [75] oracle.jbo.ConfigException: JBO-33003: Connection name hr_db is not defined.
I checked the bc4j.cfg and the model.jpr and they both point to the hr_db which I see in my Application Resources and can connect to. What changed or what am I doing wrong?
I am really enthusiastic about learning JDeveloper as I believe it is the future of Oracle.

Thank you Frank!!! That was the problem.
I started my career some 30 years ago as a main framer, got into client sever and then Peoplesoft 10 years ago. Now I am learning Jdeveloper in the hope that I can make another career change. I believe the technology that you have developed is one that blends coding with point and click to create metadata that melds the visual with the java classes it creates brilliantly.
I am living proof that an old dog can indeed learn new tricks!
I very much appreciate your help and I look forward to meeting you if you are at oracle Open World this year. I follow your postings, Oracle Insider videos and respect the fact that you are JDeveloper guru!!!!

  • SQL Developer 1.1 close - no error msg (connect after changed TNS info)

We installed a new QA database and as a result I had to change the connection credentials. After doing this on a connect, SQL Developer closed without any warning.
    The following repro steps:
1.) I right click on the connection name and click on Properties
2.) In the New/Save Database Connection dialog I had the following in the Oracle>TNS>Connect Identifier box:
    (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 10.111.xxx.xx)(PORT = 1521)) ) (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME = netqa) ) )
3.) I changed this to the following and then tested the connection (successfully) then clicked Save and Cancel to close the dialog:
    (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 10.111.yyy.yyy)(PORT = 1521)) ) (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME = netqa) ) )
4.) On the connection name in the tree control, I right click, click on Connect, specified the user name and password and then OK
I then noticed that my SQL Developer application disappeared.
I opened it again and used the Test button which works fine but as soon as I click Connect it also closed the application.
I then had to choose the Basic option to setup the connection info which resolved the problem.
I reproduced this on another connection and got the same thing.
I must mention that I imported these connection from a file I created by exporting the connections from the previous production version.

I am having the same problem. Too bad no one else has replied. Test connnection works and sometimes I get into the application. The first few times I was able to get it to list the object types (tables, views, etc.) though nothing was listed when I tried to explode each list. This could be because the userid I am logging on with has no objects and I haven't figured out how to make it list all objects as I can in SQL Navigator or TOAD. Now it seems that anytime I try to open one of the connections, the application simply vanishes. No no warning, no messages, it just closes.
I AM trying to use an older unsupported DB version. The first few times when it actually connected to the DB I got a warning message about an unsupported version but now I get nothing. I am starting to think that this is an intentional glitch to punish companies that are still running older versions of their database (out of necessity). If you can connect to non-Oracle data bases it seems like an older Oracle version shouldn't matter.
Anyone else have any clues why the applicatioin just closes without warning?

    Win WP SP2
Installed latest SQLDev 1.1.2 with JDK included.

my host name changes every few days, since Xmas adding a macbook its changed 6 times. Do I need to stop this? Does it cause problems with sharing between the iMac and macbook?

There are several possible causes for this problem.
    1. Two (or more) computers on the local network have the same Bonjour name, such as "X's-MacBook-Pro.local".
    2. You have two simultaneous connections to the same local network: probably Ethernet and Wi-Fi. If applicable, disconnect the Ethernet cable or turn off Wi-Fi.
    3. A Mac wakes from sleep due to network traffic. This is due to a bug in OS X that may only affect some models.
    4. A device that gets its network address from the router wakes from sleep, and the address it was using before has been assigned to another device.
    5. A third-party wireless router has incompatible settings or firmware. In that case, refer to the manufacturer or ISP for support. Restarting the router may help, temporarily.
    6. See also this support article.
Rename the computer in the Sharing preference pane.

  • BW Development Logical Name Change Impact

    Hi,
what is going to be the impact on our BW system (extraction / modelling / reporting) if we change the BW logical name.
Example:- BW Development current logical name is BWCL005
    New Name change to BW005.
    Can you please help
    Regards
    Rajiv

some of the impacts i can comment on are as above.
    1. wherever u have hardcoded logical name, there u have to modify to new name.
    2. regarding the RFC connection with other servers make sure there is there is 2 way communication with the every server, this is basically a BASIS task and needs to confirm with great care.
    hope it helps.
kindly assign the points if it helps.

  • EM not working Properly after computer name change

    Hi Friends,
i hav 10gr2 DB, everything was fine.
last week my computer name changed, and EM stops to work.
so i reconfigure EM through command line.
after that EM started, but when go to 'Performance' or any other tab in browser.
its asks for login and shows 'oldcomputername:orcl:1521' in connection string.
so whats other things , i hav to change?
    Thanks

Search every file under $ORACLE_BASE for the old name.
Assuming *NIX use find and grep.
Why do people rename servers? A name is a name is a name. All it ever does is cause problems.

  • Dbxplorer dialog won't allow me to enter database connection name

I'm trying to create a new database connection with dbxplorer. It pops up a dialog asking for the database connection name, but it won't accept any text input. I can't get any further without the ability to enter a name in this dialog.
This is an existing project that was not created with any Workshop wizzards. I would still think that I could use dbxplorer on an existing project.
Is there a way to make this work or a patch for this?

We are actively working this issue and hope it will be resolved in our next release targeted for this summer.
We are evaluating some workarounds, but there were some changes in the JDK that prompted this, and we are still assessing to see if related to jvm regression, api change, or a bug.
Please use the older JDK as a workaround as an interim solution

  • Computer name changes incrementally (1, 2, 3...)

    Dear Apple Friends,
I have an issue that is affecting all the Macs on my home network: 3 MacBooks (wireless) and an iMac (hardwired) connected to an Apple Airport Extreme dual-band 802.11n/a/b/g 5Ghz/2Ghz wireless router. All the Macs are running Yosemite 10.10, I am running firmware v7.6.4 on the Airport (latest version). We have turned on Back to my Mac, File Sharing, and Screen Sharing (all are used pretty regularly) in the Sharing screen.
So here is what is happening...
All the Macs on our network are having their computer names changed with the suffix of (1), (2), all the way to 6 now.
I have tried resetting our Airport router (turn off/on again) and that seems to stop it for a day but then it starts again.
A few days ago, I did a factory reset on the Airport router per the instructions on the Apple website (hold down reset until it blinks constantly) to clear the router. Sure enough, the names started changing again after about a day.
Sometimes, I will change the name back, and it will rename itself again automatically right after I change it. i.e. John's MacBook Pro => John's MacBook Pro (1)
I have gone so far as to reboot every Mac on the network, shutting off the router, then turning it on again, and the issue returns. I am going to try and set up a DHCP reservation next and see if that helps.
Has anyone else run across this? If so, is this a bug or is there something I'm missing here? Thanks you for your time.

    To "fix" I:
First, I turned off networking which was WiFi in my circumstance.
Next, I named my computer back to the original desired name in the "Sharing" system preference without the (n).
    Then I added a "--no-namechange" parameter in the /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.discoveryd.plist.
    Unloaded and loaded the deamon:
    sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.discoveryd.plist
    sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.discoveryd.plist
Last, I reconnected to the network.
Now when I connect to the network instead of getting something like below in the Console.app:
"discoveryd: Basic Bonjour Changing computer name from <hostname> to <hostname> (2)"
    This appears in the Console.app:
"discoveryd: Basic Bonjour Would have changed computer name from <hostname> to <hostname> (2), but it's disabled"
I could not find a Yosemite bug filed https://bugreport.apple.com/, but this site helped me hack my solution:

  • Domain Name Change Disabling Keys

  • Handling table name changes

    Hi,
Because of a change in naming convention, all our source table names are changing (only the prefix: The rest of the name and the table structures will remain the same). We already have developed a significant number of OWB mappings based on the old naming convention. What is the OWB equivalent of doing a global search replace of table names ? Is there a script available for doing this ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Biswa.

The name changing part should be relatively simple to handle. I have included a script that should do the renaming with the prefix 'WH_'. The reconcile will have to be done by you. The script should go something like this (please test your scripts in a test environment as I will not provide support for this).
