Connection OK but no Internet

Hi, I am new to Macs. i have set up a wireless network in my house, and already spoke to the modem manufacturer and the ISP. Now I can get a confirmed airport connection, but when I open Safari no webpages will load. What other steps do I have to take to get webpages to load?

I noticed your equipment list shows you are running OS10.4. As OS 10.3 and 10.4 are somewhat different in options offered by System Preferences, allow me to suggest that, unless the troublesome computer is other than the one listed in your equipment, you post your question in the 10.4 Networking forum here:

I am no network expert but I don't see any differences. There might be a way to let the Bluetooth device connect automatically, but I wouldn't know how.

Iphone 5 connecting wifi, but no internet

Hello there. İ have a problem about conectivit to wifi. I have a wireless router at home. I connect my phone to it. Both galaxy s4 and iphone 5 (and some other laptops) connect easily. but when i try to search something on the internet, there is no internet at all. Actually, signal strength is full, still no internet -just for iphone five-. i have tried all kinds of traditional methods that is written here and there like; resetting the router, changing security to wpa2, changing password, resetting network settings on my iphone, resetting iphone, hard resetting iphone, reconnecting and so on... none of them worked unfortunately. and i am not the only one having wifi issues about iphone 5. It started making me feel like i was cheated buying this phone. i have been using iphone since the second generation. we dont deserve this kind of problems in iphone!

The updater gives a no internet connection error but the internet is connected

Which operating system are you using?
The photoshop elements 6 updater never has worked to actually get the updates and doesn't work at all now, so you need to download and install any updates yourself.

Connected Ethernet but no internet (Lion 10.7.1)

My MBP worked well with Lion. But after updating to 10.7.1 some days, I couldn't access internet via cable anymore (Wi-fi is ok).
I have checked cable, router, modem,... but all were ok. Looking for info from this communities and trying most options (reseting modem ±5 min; updating software; or a wierd way - inserting a blank CD and ejecting it; deleting Ethernet and then creating it from Network; renewing DHCPlease; trying with some suggested DNS, ...) but nothing was better, no internet. So sad!
Beside I don't have any anti-virus on my MBP.
Do you guys have any ideas? Please help!

Did you get any error message or how you notice that you have no access to the Internet?
Try to ping or traceroute a common address like "www.apple.com" or similar you know that will live on the Internet.
How to?
Go to "network utility" and choose on the first tab your existing network.
Then first try a ping ...
If ping works, this will indicate that your Internet connection is working and the problem sits on an application wich want connect to the Internet or is blocking.
If ping give no response or error message, please post the resulting message.

Are you 100% positive you are connected? Head to Settings - Wi-Fi and tap the > next to the network you are connected to? What is listed for an IP address? If it's in the 169.x.x.x range, it means your iPod did not properly receive a valid IP address via DHCP from your modem/router. So the 169.x.x.x address is a self-assigned one.
This can usually be resolved by a reboot of your router. You can do this by unplugging it for about 30 seconds. After it powers back up, try reconnecting it. It wouldn't hurt to try a reset of your iPod as well. To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
    •    Launch Settings app
    •    Tap on Wi-Fi
    •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
    •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

I too am running xp spiii on my mac with lion. However I installed xp while running snow leopard then upgraded to lion and both are running fine. If you have the support disc that came with the imac all the relevant drivers are on there. The only other thing i would suggest is that you get spiii and upgrade to that.

Have you tried a hard reset of the iPod to see if that helps? To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
Otherwise, work through each of the troubleshooting suggestions in this Apple support document as necessary.

The only people who can possibly assist you with this is Apple Customer Relations, call your local Apple contact number and ask for Customer Relations then explain your situation clearly and politely (be firm but don't rant).
You might want to investiage what the local laws are regarding defective goods and 'fit for use' definitions on warranties etc. Consumer Protection can be a useful tool to use or bargain with if needed ...

My network connected for a few hours then went back to timing out. I have not changed anything. However there four additional laptop users in my family who do not seem to be having any problems using their wireless connection. Could their film and music downloads be causing the timing out of my connection and if so is there a way I could prioritizes my computer or limit their use?

Slate 21 Pro - Obtains IP address but no Internet connectivity

Hi all,
I have a Slate 21 Pro with no internet connectivity at home. The device obtains an IP address via DHCP on either wired or wireless networks, but when attempting to browse or access internet-based resources, it simply times out. I've also tried manual IP address assignment with no success. If I take the tablet to a local wi-fi cafe, it connects fine, but I can't get it to work at home. My ISP is Baja Broadband, a 50MB/5MB cable connection Local network details below:
* Arris T822G cable modem - ISP-provided, no routing or firewall capability, just a plain old modem
* Cisco/Linksys E3000 wi-fi router - internal network gets NAT'ed here. no filtering, nothing fancy
* Netgear 24-port managed gigabit switch
I've tried bypassing the internal network and connecting the Slate 21 Pro directly to the cable modem via wired Ethernet. Same problem - it obtains an IP address (a public IP in this case) but will not connect to any internet sites. HP sent me a replacement unit which displays the exact same problem. Both units work fine at the wi-fi cafe.
(OS is Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. I could take the unit to the wi-fi cafe and see if there's any OTA updates available if anyone thinks that might help.)
I'm a network engineer with 25 years IT experience. My home network is a mature network with no known problems. Connected to this network and functioning perfectly are: 2 iPhones, a Roku box, an LG smart TV, 2 Macs, 4 Windows PCs. Previously had 2 HP Touch tablets which were also fine. Home visitors are able to connect their phones and tablets to our wi-fi with no problems. It's *just* the Slate 21 Pro which is misbehaving.
I'm stumped. Any ideas?

UPDATE: This is resolved. I discovered I was able to access Internet sites by IP address but not by hostname. There was something wonky with the ISP-provided DNS server. Once I substituted a different DNS server in the IP config, it works.

Moved to new house; was able to connect to internet with firefox first day; after that can get on Skype but not internet. Is it my computer or the wireless router in the house? what should I do?
