Connection problems since last software update

Since the last 2 software updates on August 19 (Security Update 2009-004 and Safari), my internet connection is very slow and sometimes breaks down. This is most apparent when streaming music breaks off repeatedly (which never happened before) or when even clutterless sites such as Google take a long time to load. I am running OS X 10.5.8 on an iMac (2008) with Safari 4.0.3, but Firefox also runs slow, so the problem might not be with the Safari update. By the way, another Mac running on an older version of Tiger and connected to the same router is connecting without problems.
However, Network diagnostics says that my Internet connection seems to be working properly.
I am certain this has to do with the last updates and am wondering if I am the only one experiencing these problems? What can be done?

Hi Gerrit,
There is obviously an inbuild error in the last system update. Some portables suffer from this speed slowdown only when connected to power while everything is fine when working on battery. There is an patch for it (10.5.8AirPortUpdate1.0), sorry I dont have the entire link but you should find it).
Mine is suddenly slow when connected to a secondary monitor and the browser window is moved there, whule everything speeds up to normal when moving the brwoser window to the power book - no matter if it set as the primary or secondary monitor.
I am looking for urgent help mayself for almost a week and do not understand why the Apple folks are´nt dealing with the issue. Hope there is a solution soon.
Regards,
M.

  • Airport/Internet Problem Since Last Software Update

I am having a problem with my airport not connecting to my wireless network(s). I have an airport express at both home and work and it is doing the same. My computer will find the wireless network in the list but I can't connect to the internet or email, although I can connect to other users on the network successfully. It seems to be an internet configuration that is causing the problem. It worked fine until I ran software update. Is there something in the last update that may be causing the problem?

Fixed my own problem but not quite sure why it worked. I logged in as another user and had to manually enter my keychain password for the wireless network I am using. I then logged out and logged back in as the admin user and it automatically asked me for my password for keychain access. I entered it and everything works fine now. The system seemed to be having problems accessing my keychain for some reason...

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in Mac OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • I try to update apps since last software update, but prompts for old itunes PW

I try to update apps since last software update, but prompts for old itunes PW,
Ive signed out of Itunes, Icloud, Ive rebooted the phone several times and it still prompts for a passwork from 2 yrs ago. I bought this phone some time ago used. I have never had a problem ontil I updated the software a month ago....
    Please help
    Mike

That means you have an app or apps, on your phone, obtained with your old Apple ID. All apps are forever tied to the ID used to originally obtain them. They cannot be updated using any ID other than the ID used to obtain them.

  • Problem getting calls since last software update iphone 4s

Since latest software update my 4s wont ring unless the phone is unlocked, the missed call showes in notifacations right away, is anyone else having this issue?

Are you sure that "Do Not Disturb" setting has not been accidentally turned on ?

  • Mail Crashing since last Software Update

Ever since the last software update (I think it was June 8th?) Mail has been crashing. It will open and stay open for a very short time -- maybe a minute or two -- and then just shut down. I'm not an expert at reading these error logs, but it seems to be related to Parental Controls. This is my son's email application and I have parental controls turned on. So, I turned off Parental Controls on his email and now it doesn't crash, but that's really not a good solution. I'm including the error log below. If anyone can tell me what the problem is with Parental Controls and how to fix it, I'd really appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    Sue

Do you have any Mail plugins in the ~/Library/Mail/Bundles folder? Perhaps there is an incompatibility between them and Parental Controls?

  • Email error since last software update

I keep getting an error message as follows:
The mail server denied access to the account “***@charter.net” because an administrator or other mail client was using it when Mail tried to log in. Try again later.
The server returned the error: account is locked by another session or for maintenance, try again.
This has been ongoing since the last software update. I haven't changed any mail settings and all was working fine for months. I called charter and they said call Apple. Nothing wrong on their end. The mailboxes keep going offline for some reason. Can anyone help?
    < Edited by Host >

It says login failed. Verify username and password are correct. The thing is, mail works sometimes but not all the time. It seems to reset itself throughout the day. There are times that i try to retrieve mail and it gives me that message. Other times in the day, it resets and is fine. I have tried deleting the mailbox and starting all over. The same thing happens. The username and password that I have are correct. It just seems to only work some of the time. Very weird. Here is the log:

  • Errors since last software update

I've been having issues since the last software update of iPhoto.  The application takes a long time to import photos and presented an error message indicating photos could not be found.  What can I do to fix this?  What were the "fixes" that were added in the last update that might have caused these issues?  Can I rollback the update?
    Thanks,
    Bernadette Garcia

what is the exact error message?
Do you have a default "managed" library (the iPhoto preference to "copy imported items to the iPhoto library is in its checked state) or a referenced library (you have unchecked that preference)?

  • Since last software update, pre-paid internet does not work anymore. Get "you have not signed up for a data plan" message. Pre-paid acct is in order! What's up???

I have had  an iPad 3G for more than a year now. I did not get it with a SIM card, since I expected to use almost completely at home, where we have wireless internet. Eventually, I decided  it would be handy to be able to take it on the road, and signed up for pre-paid Internet with KPN (national Dutch telecommunications company). That worked fine, until the last big iPad software update. Since then, whenever I try to make a connection outside the house, I get the following message…
    Mobile Data Account
You have not signed up for a data plan.
Would you like to set up a new account?
If you don’t, you can do it later in Settings.
…with the options of ‘Later’ or ‘Now’ to press. If I press Now, I get a screen “Please wait while the page is loading – this should only take a few seconds to complete.” But it never does, the ball just keeps spinning and spinning and spinning….
To my mind, with pre-paid internet I should not HAVE to set up a Mobile Data Account in the first place. I’ve checked with KPN, and my account is completely in order. I’ve checked with the local Apple store, and the geniuses say they’ve never seen this. Can anyone help me?

I updated to 3.6.4 and when I went to NetFlix to watch the next show of a series, it said
    something like
    Installation complete, restart your browser.
I restarted browser, same problem. Restarted comp. Same problem.
I updated Adobe Flash 10.1, still same problem.
But able to watch some vids on other sites, but full screen gave me the big blank white screen with audio only, had to click around in the dark ( so to speak) to find the minimize button.
I did a System Restore to before the Firefox and Adobe updates.
I then did not update Firefox as recommended and went to NetFlix and wellah, i can view the movies again.
    And Full Screen is fine.
I then experimented and updated Firefox only, went to NetFlix and got same msg with no viewable shows.
So did a System Restore once more.
Staying at 3.6.3 for a while longer until I know I can watch my movies.
I don't own a TV, so this is my only form of an occasional escape.
I do hope this is figured out soon.
With what I have done, it seems to be Firefox, Not Flash.
    Good Luck to us all.

  • Minor issues since last software update...

    Hello folks,
I did a software update today - i can't remember exactly what it was for but i'm pretty regular - and since ive had problems with the screen not activating and my wifi connection dropping out - usually whilst the superdrive reads a disc.
    Anyone else having problems?

Do you have any Mail plugins in the ~/Library/Mail/Bundles folder? Perhaps there is an incompatibility between them and Parental Controls?

  • Problems since iPod software update

Since I updated my iPod software the computer and iTunes do not recognize my iPod. No amount of resets and charging, changing USB ports changes this. When I do plug in iTunes also freezes. Once iTunes worked and acknowledged the iPod and said it was corrupted and that I should restore it, but I cannot replicate this result now. Furthermore I have 10 gigs of hi res photography stored on which I would lose. Do I have any more options? At this point I couldnt restore it even if I wanted to.
This is all ridiculous since it came IMMEDIATELY after the software update.

Pdtaylor, I have some of the same problems. I purchased the 30gb video ipod from Bestbuy yesterday. Had itunes 6 on my pc, but when I connected my new ipod, I got a warning that I had to upgrade to itunes 7 or higher. Fine. I uninstall itunes 6, restart pc. I go and download the latest itunes 7 software from itunes, installed it and reboot my pc. Next I start itunes 7, plug in my new ipod. Winxp detects it as a removable drive. Fine, this is normal. I start itunes 7. It briefly detects the ipod, does some kind of software update to the ipod, which I assume is a firmware upgrade? The ipod shows up in itunes 7. I can add some music, see old playlist, etc... I disconnect the ipod and it plays back music, as it should.
BUT, the next time I connect my ipod, winxp see's it, but itunes 7 can't find it. I get a 'do not disconnect' message on the ipod. After 30 minutes of this, I decided to unplug the ipod and uninstall the itunes 7 software, restart and then re-install intunes 7 again, restart. I connect the ipod, winxp see's it, but still intunes 7 does not detect the ipod. *** is this sh**?
For 2 hours I google the web reading about some people having very similar problems with intunes 7 with 5th gen ipod video models. Some folks say it the firmware upgrade, which is suppose to fix video playback problems, so maybe the new firmware is funky?
Today I'm going to take my new ipod back to Bestbuy for an exchange. If I still have problems with itunes 7, then I'm going to get a refund of my hard earned money and look for a non-ipod music player.

  • Wireless network connection issues since last security update

    Hi All,
I've run into an annoying problem since I applied the last security update.
I've locked my wireless network a home down pretty tight. One of the settings I set is the "don't broadcast SSID" for that tiny bit more of security.
Since the last security update my MacBook doesn't connect to my wireless anymore. There are two ways I can get it to connect:
    1. Manually tell it to connect by resupplying the SSID and the WPA key info.
    2. Reconfig my wireless to show it's SSID, connect, tell wireless to hide it's SSID. I then lose connection but have a few seconds that the MacBook "knows" the wireless exists and I can select to connect to it from the wireless icon in my top menu bar.
Anyopne run into this issue and know a fix? Getting annoyed of having to do this every time I boot. Especially as I needed to change my WPA key into something I can remember instead of the 56char key I used to have
    thanx

Thanks Eric! Since changing this setting last night, all has been ok

  • Problems after last software update :o( N8 on PAYG...

Hi, hoping someone can help plz.
Did a recent update on my PAYG o2  N8 (only just realised it was optional!!) and since then my phone has gone crazy, loosing settings etc
It's lost my internet settings and when I launch OVI it does not connect (just blank screen) I have now figured that I can get online by using my wlan (at home) and then opening a page from bookmark, Long winded but works.
As far as MMS goes I cannot send one!! I could okay before the update, but despite getting the settings again from o2 (in case that was the problem -it wasn't) I can't send any it just says failed everytime (
Also, the size of the texting buttons has changed and make it really quite small to text when you have slightly larger fingers, and older (ish) eyes. Anyone else found this a problem?
Any suggestions would be great, was wondering if I could actually restore factory settings or something to get rid of the new software updates, is that possible?
Oh and it keeps switching itself off and it never did before.
I have no nokia centers near me so any help would be great
    Cheers

    @Bellasmum
    Welcome to the forum!
Unfortunately there is nothing you can do about change in texting button size introduced in Symbian Anna update as you can't downgrade the firmware once updated.
If you go to Menu > Settings > Phone > Phone management > Factory settings - you could try "Restore" which is the less destructive of the two available options and default lock code is 12345 unless altered by yourself; more details to be found here:http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/n8-00/faq#07
Inability to access Ovi Store can be difficult to resolve if something has gone wrong and you may have to accept workaround for now.
If you go to Menu > Messaging > Options > Settings > Multimedia message > Access point in use - is o2 MMS defined?
Presumably you had not taken a backup of your N8 using Ovi Suite on PC at any stage?

  • The iTune Dock pop-up notification no longer works since last software update.

Previously i was using the pop-up iTunes notification, enabled by entering"defaults write com.apple.dock itunes-notifications -bool TRUE;killall Dock' into Terminal to activate it once only.
Since installing the last OS software update every time i change songs in iTunes, instead of popping up and saying what song is now playing as it used to, the whole dock dissapears and reappears when i change songs instead of the pop-up appearing.
    How can i fix this?

Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > Print
If you see the HP PSC printer, select that then click - (minus)
Then download and install the driverrs for your printer model and v10.9 here > Software & driver downloads HP PSC 2350 All-in-One Printer | HP® Support
Then go back to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > Print then click + to add the printer.
If that doesn't help, follow the instructions for Resetting the printing system

  • Safari Problems Since last Security Update

Every since the last Security Update in September Safari 1.3.1 has some strange issues for me. As others have previously described in these forums, Safari will crash on certain websites but with no consistency. Sometimes those sites work and other times they don't. At other times, an infrequently visited site will crash. It's almost like it's at random but I don't know what causes it.
On a related note, some web ads that have motion, I don't know if it's flash (latest installed) or java, 'bounce" up and down when you scroll down the page by either clicking on the scroll bar and scrolling down or by clicking on the up/down arrows. I didn't notice this prior to the security update.
I do all the usual maintenance. I did notice though that when clearing the java cache in 1.4.2 I can't quit by the menu (grayed out) or Command q, only by clicking on the red dot. Anybody know what's going on? Thanks!

    Hello Tooky,
I know it has been a while since you posted this topic on the Discussions board, but I am experiencing the same problem with the Safari browser. I have noticed that web ads have motion as well, and I am not sure whether this is intentional or an error.
However, I did discover something. I reinstalled Quicktime 6 (I had been running QT 7) and the motion in the web ads stopped. Then, just to test this out, I upgraded to QT 7 again, and the motion in the web ads returned. I think it has something to do with QT 7.
I am running 10.3.9, and I don't know whether people are experiencing this issue in 10.4. You mentioned in your posting that this issue has been discussed--is there any way you could direct me to one of the discussions? Have you discovered a workaround? I'm having trouble finding other threads on this topic.
Thank you very much, and take care.
