Connection Problems with iMAP and Mail in Mountain Lion

Hi everybody,
since the Update on Mountain Lion I am having the following problem:
When my iMac wakes up after some time, Mail isn't working anymore by showing the triangle with the exclamation mark. By clicking on it it shows the following picture (sorry for being in german). What you see is, that the internet connection works fine but Mail says it cannot connect to the iCloud iMAP Server. I should check if iCloud supports SSL and if it does not, deactivate it...
After closing Mail an reopening it again, everything works fine until the next episode of waking up...
Any hints??
Thanks!!
Stefan

If you do, I highly recommend wiping the harddrive and doing a clean
install. An upgrade install, especially from two versions back is going
to be nothing short of a crapshoot.
Deactivate any software before doing so.

@OfficialLinksys When will @Cisco_Support update Cisco Connect software with OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion compatibility?

I believe all Mac users are waiting for that update but so far it is not yet available. We are yet to hear from Cisco for its official release for the software that is compatible already for Mountain Lion.

  • Having problems with OSX and mail with the servers?

Having problems with OSX and the mail servers?  Seems to be happening more and more?

    Hello,
Who is your eMail provider, the part after the @ sign?
In Mail's Window Menu, choose Connection Doctor, any red dots for status, if so what is the message?
Then click the Show Details button & Check again.
Open Keychain Access in Utilities, use Keychain First Aid under the Keychain Menu item, then either check the Password under that item, change it, or delete it and start over.
    You may have multiple entries.
Open Keychain Access in Utilities, enter the part after the @ sign in the search bar, hit enter
The Password rejection can confuse people since it's a catch all meaning...
This Password, Username, Authentication method... is not recognized on this Port to this Server, more than one entry in Keychain for each in/out entry, or a server end problem.
If using a browser to login via WebMail works it's not Name or Password, but one of the other ones.
    The receiving email ports are:
    IMAP is port 143
    IMAP-SSL is port 993
    POP is port 110
    POP-SSL is port 995
    Outgoing ports are...
SMTP and SMTP-SSL is on ports 25, 587 and 465. Port 587 has to be SSL, and port 465 is enforced TLS-wrapped and is generally used by Outlook users.

  • AOL causing problems with Airport and Mail

It's another reason to get rid of AOL, but my wife is still hooked... when her AOL is running on the iMac G5 connected to the DSL modem, other computers can't access the Internet over the Airport from this G5 (and for some reason, Mac Mail won't send e-mail). When AOL isn't running, the Airport and Mail problems are gone. (It took a while to figure out this was the problem!)
Does this problem have its root in the arcane world of sockets and ports? Or is there some AOL preference I can change to make it play nice with others?

I think it is simply how AOL works. If you log into AOL it only wants that one connection working.
The only router I know of that works with AOL is the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS). I suggest that you get an AEBS and use that to share the connection instead of your iMac G5.

  • Problem with UWC and Mail Filters

    Hello,
We recently upgraded from ims5.2 to JES 2005Q4. With have patch -23 installed for UWC and patch -53 installed for the messaging server. Everything is going pretty well except we are having a problem with the mail filters in UWC. It seems that after a short time ( couple hours) the page stops displaying correctly. That is the buttons for example say new button instead of just new. When you click on the new button, you get a application 9 error. We have the java heap set to 1.5 gb and the webserver between .5 and 3% of the CPU. Response is great for all other pages.
Does anybody have any ideas? I have had a case open with Tech support since Last Monday, but still waiting for an answer, so any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Gary

  • Problems with Gmail and Mail App

Up until now, my gmail account (with 2 step log-in) has worked fine on my iPhone.
Today - when refreshing mail, I got a pop-up saying that the username and password were incorrect and mail couldn't be retrieved from the imap server at Google.  So...I went to my account settings on google - revoked the existing application specific password for my iPhone mail and then generated a new one.  When I entered it on the settings screen on my iPhone, I got the same message - u/p incorrect!
I deleted my gmail account and started over...same thing!!
Now, I have no access to mail and I can't figure out what to try next!
    Anyone got any ideas?? Thanks!

Well...after entering 6 different app-specific passwords and performing 3 separate reboots...mail is back up and running.  Next time I'll probably try putting my right foot in the air and spinning around in my chair 3.5 times...stupid Google!

  • Iso7 problems with messaging and mail

SInce loading iso7 I cannot send or receive text messages from/to other iPhones. I have reset to factory settings, turned iMessage off and on. My iPad is also on ISO 7 and has no problem in sending or receiving. I have also just started having problems with email (on both iPad and iPhone). I can't send or receive, keeps saying password wrong.

In settings>messages, there is a text message forwarding part. If you have your mac open and connected to wifi, as well as your iPhone, you should see 1 or multiple devices, depending on how many there are. However, I have not done this in a while, soo i think you have to be signed in to the same iCloud account on both devices, too.

  • Problems while migrating to Mail 6 - Mountain Lion

Is there a way ro recover lost mails while migrating to Mountain Lion ?  And why did I loose all the mails in the first place ?
After the upgrade to Mountain Lion, on July 27, I started Mail and I could read or retreive mails from 2 different POP accounts (Bluewin/Swisscom and Skynet/Belgacom). I checked the configuration of the 2 POP accounts and I used the tool provided by Swisscom i.e. SwisscomEmailRepair to no avail. All mail accounts on my Mac had, without any warning whatsoever, disappeared (including InBox and Sent items) ...
Gmail and me.com mail accounts were reset without any problem. I have been struggling with the 2 POP a/c.  I checked with the Swisscom guys about their tool and they confirmed that it only modified "Servers, User name and password".
It seems that I am not the only one with problems... any good advice is welcome :-)

    Finally, I found a solution.:-)
When creating a mail account for Swisscom for example, you have no choice to the type of account. You get automatically an IMAP one. By forcing the Mac wizzard to build the account manually, by entering dummy info, I managed to reconfigure my mails in the way I wanted. However, It didn't work right away. Before creating manually the accounts, I suppressed all of them in the system preference. I took out all the login info in the key chain and then restarted the Mac.

  • Problems with App Store since installing Mountain Lion

I have recently installed Mountain Lion and since then have been unable to use the App Store. When I launch it comes up with an error message stating 'App Store cannot verify a secure connection with the App Store.Would you like to connect anyway?'  If you hit continue the application flashes black and white but goes no further. Has anyone else had this problem and what could be done about it.

Yes at work and no at home but the problem occurs regardless of this

  • I have a problem with a snow leopard to mountain lion upgrade. Any suggestions?

I have a late 2007 I-Mac currently running snow leopard. My computer meets the requirements for RAM, available disk space, etc. to upgrade to Mountain Lion. I also have a new Mac Book Pro that I just updated the Mountain Lion software on. I have followed the steps outlined by Apple as follows.
To install OS X Lion or Mountain Lion on another Mac, open the Mac App Store, sign in to your account, and re-download the OS by selecting it in the Purchases list. Follow these steps:
Download Lion or Mountain Lion from the Mac App Store on one of your personal authorized Macs. The download is approximately 4 GB in size.
    Install the OS.
Log in to another computer that you wish to install it on.
Open the Mac App Store. Enter your Apple ID and password that was used to download either Lion or Mountain Lion on the first computer.
Click the Purchased icon, then click the download link for the appropriate OS.
The problem I continue to have is that the program will act like it's going to download and will say it's downloading then after approximately 10 minutes the App Store no longer says the program is downloading and I again get the green box to "install app".
I have made sure to update my software and I have the latest updates 10.6.8 for snow leopard. I have also disabled the anti virus program. Any suggestions??

If you are willing to experiment:
Unfortunately, the link for getting specific hardware versions has disappeared. So basically:
      1. Get yourself a spare hard drive freshly erased or with a freshly erased partition of
          around 8 GBs or more.
      2. Boot to your Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion from the main menu.
      3. From the beginning screen select your spare partition/drive as the target
          destination then begin the download.
      4. At the end of the download you will observe an Install button for you to click.
Now this is important - as soon as that gadget appears you must abort the
installation process. There are only two reliable ways to do this quickly: (a.) yank
the cable for the drive from the computer; (b.) pull the power on the computer -
          shut it down quickly.
This will result in your finding a folder on the drive that contains InstallESD.dmg that you can now use to create a bootable USB flash drive installer based on the special build for your model. Use it until the next public release of Lion appears or you move on to Mountain Lion.
If you do not stop the download process immediately upon its completion you will end up with an installer that always boots to a non-functioning installation progress window instead of the normal main menu.
    Make Your Own Mountain/Lion Installer
    1. After downloading Mountain/Lion you must first save the Install Mac OS X Mountain/
Lion application. After Mountain/Lion downloads DO NOT click on the Install button.
Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the Mountain/Lion installer. Move
the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You
must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes
        installing.
    2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
      a. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
      b. After DU loads select your flash drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left
side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
      c. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the
partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until
          the process has completed.
      d. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side
list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      e. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the
button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
      f. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to an hour depending upon the flash
         drive size.
    3. Locate the saved Mountain/Lion installer in your Downloads folder. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on the installer and select Show Package Contents from the contextual menu. Double-click on the Contents folder to open it. Double-click on the SharedSupport folder. In this folder you will see a disc image named InstallESD.dmg.
    4. Plug in your freshly prepared USB flash drive. You are going to clone the content of the InstallESD.dmg disc image to the flash drive as follows:
      a. Double-click on the InstallESD.dmg file to mount it on your Desktop.
      b. Open Disk Utility.
      c. Select the USB flash drive from the left side list.
      d. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
      e. Select the USB flash drive volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
      f. Drag the mounted disc icon from the Desktop into the Source entry field.
      g. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
When the clone is completed you have a fully bootable installer that you can use without having to re-download Mountain/Lion.
Note: The term Mountain/Lion used above means Lion or Mountain Lion.
As an alternative to the above you can try using Lion DiskMaker 2.0 that automates the process.

  • Problem with the fullscreen setting in Mountain lion

Hi, I am experiencing a problem with the full screen setting of my Mountain Lion. The trouble is that when I run certain apps such as Zotero or Scrivener and I open, say, the preferences window, this is automatically set in fullscreen, although it should not be. I have already got in contact with the Scrivener team and they suggested that was a problem related to one of the apps I use to manage my windows, i.e. RIghtzoom and Window Tidy. Following up this suggestion I uninstalled and restarted my laptop, but nothing has changed. I wonder if anyone has already experienced this problem or if you have any suggestions. Thanks.

  • Problems with SMB and file sharing in Lion

I have an HP OfficeJet 8500 Premier that is only 2 years old.  One of the things I loved about it was the ability to scan documents to a folder on my Mac.  Unfortunately, the only filesharing HP supports is SMB.  In SnowLeopard, SMB worked great (as long as SMB was set up in "Sharing").
Now, however, I cannot connect my HP printer/scanner to my Mac via SMB.  I have rebooted my Mac, rebooted my printer, turned on then off the SMB sharing, tried to re-setup the scan-to folder on my printer...all to no avail.
One other oddity--when I try to turn off my SMB account (my login account) in sharing, it won't let me.  It asks for a password then unchecks the account briefly, then re-checks the account (leaving it on).  I have the opposite problem on my MBP--when I try to turn on SMB sharing and select the account, it asks for a password and briefly checks the account box, then un-checks it.
Anyone have any solutions for getting an HP printer/scanner to Scan-to a Mac running 10.7?
    Thanks,
    T.

    Chih,
I also have a Xerox 6180 MFP that stopped connecting to a Lion Server machine via SMB, but I was able to come up with a workaround using FTP:
Although Lion Server's GUI doesn't have a service switch for FTP, it still exists and can be turned on via command line.
This is the workflow: Everyone at my office shares the Xerox 6180 scanner, so I created individual scan bins in the Xerox Directory for every user.  A user would select their scan bin on the Xerox 6180 (Scan > Server > Scan to... Richard's Scan Bin) and make their scan.  The Xerox 6180 FTPs the file to a Mac Mini running Lion Server.  The user goes back to their workstation, logs into the server via AFP, and grabs the file out of their private scan bin.
My workaround on OSX Lion Server:
1.) I already had a "xerox" user in a group called "scangroup" via the Server.app.  This user is for the Xerox 6180.
2.) In Terminal.app, I created an ftp access group called "com.apple.access_ftp":
       sudo dseditgroup -o create com.apple.access_ftp
3.) Then I added my "scangroup" group to "com.apple.access_ftp":
       sudo dseditgroup -o edit -a scangroup -t group com.apple.access_ftp
4.) Next, I turned on FTP:
       sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/ftp.plist
5.) In the "xerox" user's home folder, I created a directory called "Scans" and sharepoint subdirectories in it for each Shared User account (e.g. ~/Scans/Richard's Scan Bin)
6.) In Server.app, I gave each Shared User read/write permission to only their subdirectory (i.e. The shared user "Richard" has read/write permission for "Richard's Scan Bin" folder)
7.) In the Xerox Server Address Book Directory, I created entries for each user.  i.e.:
       Name: Richard's Scans
       Server Type: FTP
       Server Address: [Your server's address]
       Port Number: 21
       Login Name: xerox
       Login PW: [your password]
       Server Path: Scans/Richard's Scans
You can also tweak my workaround if you aren't using Lion Server.
    Hope this helps!

  • Problems with apps since upgrading to Mountain Lion

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, I get the message "Application Not Responding" for several apps (Quark 9, CS5 apps, and Word for Mac) after they've been sitting open and not being used for a couple of hours. I have to "Force Quit", then restart the program. Not sure what's going on. Didn't have this problem with Lion. Any suggestions on what I can do to fix this?

OK, I updated Quark 9, CS5 apps & Word for Mac. Quark 9 and InDesign are still giving me "Application Not Responding" after being open and unused for a few hours. The other apps are now working fine...Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe Bridge and Word for Mac. Any suggestions for what I should do about Quark and InDesign?
