Connection reset by peer when I specify port for Callback
I have a successful rmi callback when it uses annoymous port by using UnicastRemoteObject.exportObject(this) from client. But I get the following messages when I tried to specify port by using UnicastRemoteObject.exportObject(this, port) by client. My understanding is this tells the server to callback using the port specify and the connection should be made. Where it fails is when the server tries to call client.notify() where the callback is taking place I get the errors.
Am I missing something? I thought that was all I needed to do to specify a port.

Thanks for the help.
Hi Esmond, My name is Lee and I work with Joon (hellscream) and this RMI callback problem still persists. We appreciate your help and we know about your expertise in this area. (Great products on your web site by the way).
The problem environment currently consists of a Unix Solaris server on the backend and windows XP laptops acting as clients. The callback is from the unix server back to the client.
By looking at the output of netstat -na on the unix server during a normal anonymous port run, we can clearly see that there seem to be 3 sequentially numbered ports involved whenever the anonymous port construct of UnicastRemoteObject is used. This happens with super() or super(0); in our client code. All works very well that way.
The problem arises when we make changes to the client impl file and specify a port with super(65000) for example.
There is no firwall involved right now and UnicastRemoteObject doesn't seem to behave as advertised in the sense that
We can clearly see what's going on with the network using Thread.sleep(10000) within the client app meanwhile executing netstat -na on the unix server and grepping for the client IP address
We can see that the unix server STILL wants to talk to the client on an arbitrary port while the laptop client is listening on the desired port that we chose (65000) in this case.
If we attempt to instantiate a port in the server Impl java file, the results are the same with the exception of the choice of the source port on the unix server. We seem to be able to choose and set that at will. Unfortunately, and from the perspective of a future firewall, the source port is irrelevant and the rules normally apply to destination ports in an outgoing connection.
Anyway, with ports instantiated and everything compiling, the client prints the following stacktrace
Thanks very much in advance for your help

Assuming your network is working for other activities, and it's just the Mac App Store that's failing...
Try restarting the download within the Mac App Store.
Failing that, restart Mac App Store and try restarting the download again.
Then failing all that, I'd close Mac App Store, reboot the system, and open and try the Mac App Store download again.
Here are some details on the Mac App Store (including how to cancel and restart downloads), and here are the App Store Troubleshooting suggestions from Apple. -
See question in headline.
Hi MollyPhloot07,
I'm glad you found the coupons.com app and you might also want to take a look at the GroceryIQ app from the same company. Please note that at this time, printing is only support from iPad to HP wireless inkjet printer. That's most likely the reason why your Canon isn't displaying when attempting to print. The other way to go might be emailing the coupons you want to your email address, then open that email and print from a conventional desktop or laptop computer.
Hope this helps!

Mac Clients are running 10.9.2 Mavericks.
Client is Microsoft Remote Desktop 8.05.
Clients are mixed in how they connect to the Windows 2008 R2 server, some
are on Wifi some are on Wired Ethernet.
If you connect to the Server through the RD Client, and get on you work
and if you then say go idle ( still connected but not doing anything such as
printing from the Server or in an Application on the Server) then after 20 mins it
(the client) throws up a "Connection reset by Peer" error.
You click OK, and then it breaks connection. You can however reconnect without issue.
We have currently about six users who are using the RD Connection to access QuickBooks on
this 2008 R2 server. Four are on Macs and get the errors. Two are on PCs and do not get the errors.
Here is the log file from one of the Macs that had the error:

Any help would be appreciated.Hi,
A connection was forcibly closed by a peer. This normally results from a loss of the connection on the remote socket due to a timeout or a restart. On a datastream socket, the
connection was reset. This reset could be generated locally by the network system when it detects a connection failure, or it might be received from the remote host (in TCP terms, the remote host sent an RST packet). This error is also possible on a datagram
socket; for instance, this error could result if your application sends a UDP datagram to a host, which rejects it by responding with an ICMP Port Unreachable.
Please check the following:
1. Ping the remote host you were connected to. If it does respond, this problem might have been a transient one (so you can reconnect now), or the server application you were
connected to might have terminated (so you might not be able to connect again).
2. Type tracert at the command prompt to determine the path to the host you were connected to. This won't reveal too much unless you know the router addresses at the remote end,
but it might help to identify if the problem is somewhere along the way.
3. Check if there is any related error log in the server side.
Thanks.
Jeremy Wu

Socket read error: connection reset by peer
Hi.
Has anybody experienced the error message Socket read error: connection reset by peer
Please see below for detailed information.
Appreciate your help
Regards
RT
Enviroment specification
Server: HP/UX 11.00 64-bit, Oracle RDBMS 8.1.6.0.0 64-bit
2 firewalls between client and db.
Client:
Win 2000,
SP3,
Oracle Client 8.1.7.0.0 ,JDBC OCI (thin JDBC driver,class12.zip)
JDK 1.3
JRUN3.0
The TCP protocol is being used in the communication
Error messages
Web Users receive: Socket read error: connection reset by peer
Trace files on the sever: Read unexpected EOF ERROR on 18.
Explanation: The error in the server sqlnet trace file, suggests that a client connection has terminated abnormally, i.e. client machine powered off, a cable removed or a network connection aborted without warning. No user has complained of such a problem and there is no client trace with an error.
The problem
The users of the java web application, experiencing an exception almost once or twice a day.
The JRUN web-server reports broken connections to the db and client are receiving "connection reset by peer".
At the moment when the errors occurs the users just have to wait a while(2-10 min) and then they can use the web application again.(no action is taken)
This problem can not be reproduced. The problem happens only occasionally when the network is under heavy load and new DB connection is being created.
The application
The java web-application uses a customized connection pooling against the database. This pool is shared among all the users of the website. whenever a user process needs to fetch data from the database, a free connection from this pool is allocated. The application is testing if the connection is valid before making a transaction (select '1' from dual). When the error occurs a ORA-3113 end-of-file on communication channel is returned to the application.
The path between the client and db involves at least two firewalls. The firewalls are opened for sql*net traffic. The network group can tell that enquiries from the app.server is not getting feedback from the db. They have not however, identified if the enquiries are reaching the db-srever, or if they are stopped earlier in the network.
Around 1000 users, are using other applications which uses dedicated sqlnet connections against the db and they have not experienced any problems.
Issues considered
Connection pooling
It is a customized connection pooling, developed by Lindorff developers.
I have read through the source code for the connection pooling and it does the job as it should, and in case of bad connection, it tries to create a new connection.
The log file shows that the call to the method DriverManager.getConnection() hangs until the server goes down, which is probably because of the fact that the method DriverManager.setLoginTimeout(), does not take effect and timeout value is Zero. ( According to oracle , Oracle JDBC does not support login timeouts and calling the static DriverManager.setLoginTimeout() method will have no effect).
Firewall
One thing to consider is when the firewall may decide to shut down the socket due to long inactivity of a connection. This will cause problems to JDBC Connection Pool because the pool is not aware of this disconnection at the TCP/IP level; until someone checks out the connection from the pool and tries to use it. The user will get a Socket read error: connection reset by peer.
Jrun timeout paramter is less than the firewalls timeout so the firewall will not close a connection before Jrun does.
Number of processes the DB can handle
Processes parameter is 1300, , they have not experienced the Oracle error msg max # of processes reached.
Port redirection through a firewall:
Since the firewall has a sql net proxy Port redirection through a firewall is not a problem. Problems with port redirection only appear at connect time, but in this situation the connections fail long after the connection is established.
The network group
The network people who investigaged the problem at Lindorff report that there are a significant amount of "dropped packages" between the database server and the jdbc client (web-application) 24 hrs. The reason for this is "unknown established TCP packet" which means that the firewall does not consider these packages to be part of an already established session. The network group believes this happen because one of the hosts send a RESET or FIN signal which the firewall have noticed but are not received by the other host.
It seems like the firewall are dropping packages bacause of "Unknown
established TCP packet" from both the JDBC client and the TNSLISTENER on the database server. The dropped packages are SQL*Net v2 traffic so clearly Oracle products are involvedPresumably something is working.
Thus the problem is not with your code. At least not the database part that you have control over.
That error occurs when the other side closes the socket. Presumably you are catching lost connection exceptions and trying to restore it. -
JDBC Connection reset by peer: JVM_recv in socket input stream read
Hey Guys,
Has anyone seen this issue? We get this error in our Weblogic app logs at times and no one is able to login to our application. Our database server and SQL server seem fine at a high level. Any ideas what is causing this?
com.s1.arch.persistence.exception.PersistenceException weblogic.jdbc.mssqlserver4.TdsException: I/O exception while talking to the server, java.net.SocketException: Connection reset by peer: JVM_recv in socket input stream read
Thanksplease make sure that there is no Firewall between your servers and DB server. this message usually happen when there is a fire wall between the servers. if yes please make sure that the connection time on fire wall is longer than the time needed to complete an operation another thing that you need to check if you have a fire wall which is to make sure that Oracle DBMS return the request to the same port that it is listening to (1521 default).

The abap stack works fine, I'm able to logon and work with the system BUT the java stack doesn't work. I've looking for this error in SAP Notes page, SDN portal,... also I've revised:
-file host, located C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc contains a line 192.168.100.42 solution.grupotec.local SAPTRANSHOST and the last line of this file is in blank
this machine was in domain 'solution.gruposap.local' and now is in the domain solution.grupotec.local
In order to solve it, I've chequed:
-SQL Server 2003 is up and running
-I've taken out and in the machine from the domain
-I've turned off the machine in order it refresh the new domain(solution.grupotec.local )
-Filesystem has enough free space
-I've updated SAP Kernel
Please could you help me?

Connection reset by peer issue
Hello,
Our application is occasionally getting messages like :
weblogic java.net.SocketException: Connection reset by peer: JVM_recv
in socket input stream read
although it eventually recovers (we have the jdbc refreshTestMinutes
set to 5). We are using Weblogic 5.1 Service Pack 12 and Jdk1.3.1_04
connecting to SQL Server 2000 on another machine.
After scratching our heads with what might be wrong with our
application, we think it might be a network issue. Theres nothing in
the SQL Server logs to indicate that there has been a problem on that
side.
Has anyone had this problem and resolved it, and if so how? Are we on
the right track?
Thanks,
Caroline SturtridgeThanks for those suggestions, we'll try them and see if they work.
Strangely, I wrote a small program to keep a socket open between the
two machines (completely separate from the main application) and we've
not had a problem since...

o You need to use test connections on reserve to true.
o You need to talk to your network admin and find out
if there are any firewalls/proxies between the app server
and the database. They can be dropping connections
after a period of incativity.
o Ask the network admin to check error counters on the switch
ports. Sometimes when the switch port is set to 100Mbit/Firm
and other side use 100MBit/Auto, the parites can't negotiate
speed and fall down to speed of 10th of kilobytes, having
multiple errors etc. Cisco switches like doing this.
Hope this helps.

Connection Reset By Peer & IIS5
Hi All;
I developed a java stress test application using sockets.
Currently, I am trying to stress test a IIS5/Weblogic5.1 installation,
but IIS5 is terminating my socket prior to me being able to read all
of it.
I get about halfway through the response, and then IIS decides to
reset the connection.
In Windows, I get the JVM_recv error, and in unix (linux & solaris)
I get just the standard connection reset by peer error.
I tried jvm 1.2.2, 1.3.1_01, and even 1.4... no change.
When reading the data from the response, IIS resets the socket
intermittantly
(See // ### lines below).
Does anyone know why IIS is doing this? Are my sockets reading too
slow?
Is it a MS Conspiracy? Why does a browser doing the exact same
transactions work fine,
yet, when using java sockets, IIS does not like it. I have used this
stress test
app on UNIX equipment and I never had problems... but when it comes to
talking to IIS on
port 80, things don't work.
Any insight would be appreciated.
This problem has stumped me for months. Sincerely,
[email protected]

Hi All,
We are using Oracle Version 8.1.5. We needed to send some data from a stored procedure to a TCP port and get the response back synchronously. We are using the package utl_tcp for doing this. Since in our case the data returned is quiet big, we are storing it in a Clob, but since utl_tcp.Get methods return varchar, We go into a loop and catch the return data in chunks in a varchar variable and then append them to a Clob.
It is working right for services returning not that big amount of data, but for one service it gives the Connection reset by peer error each time when the data receiving loop is in its 4th iteration. We are receving the data using the utl_tcp.Get_Text() method.
The server that is sending the data has no problem since all this is working right in Oracle 9i. I also saw there is no tx_timeout parameter in the utl_tcp.Open_Connection() method of the Oracle version we are using. I guess this might be a connection time out thing on the Oracle end, which is forcing connection to be ended after a specific period of time, but how can we increase that in our version of Oracle? or is that a problem with something else, Please Help!

Hi All
I am trying to upload a file (5GB) to storage account using put page blob api of azure python sdk.
example- blob_service.put_page_blob_from_path('container', 'windows.vhd', '/mnt/23/Windows.vhd').
But after sometime connection gets reset, i am getting same error in other regions as well. Following is the connection reset log-
>> blob_service.put_page_blob_from_path('container', 'windows.vhd', '/mnt/snapshotted_images/23/Windows7-flat.vhd')
*** error: [Errno 104] Connection reset by peer
Thanks,
Vaibhav KaleHello Vaibhav,
Directly uploading a 5GB file may last long time due to client network, then in that time period, if certain network latency or exception happens, then the upload action will be impacted.
To overcome this type of issue, you can consider to apply existing tool to upload vhd: azcopy
http://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/storage-use-azcopy/
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/windowsazurestorage/archive/2012/12/03/azcopy-uploading-downloading-files-for-windows-azure-blobs.aspx
you can either start the tool by your python code to upload the target vhd file or manually run azcopy command to upload(if this uploading happens very rarely to you).
in azcopy, as the tutorial, there is option for you to specify the target blob to be page blob:
/BlobType:<block | page>
Specifies whether the destination blob is a block blob or a page blob. This option is applicable only when uploading blob; otherwise, an error is generated. If the destination is a blob and this option is not specified, then by default AzCopy will create
a block blob.
hopes this helps in your project.
In addition, I tested the python sdk here
https://github.com/Azure/azure-sdk-for-python, as it described, the function for create page blobs (from a stream, a file, or a string) worked for me. could you also try to reload this sdk and test?
let me know if there is any question.

[SOLVED] sshfs: Connection reset by peer
I am trying to use sshfs (to replace nfs) so I can access my music and my vids across my network (music and vids are on "marbles", I want to access them on "toaster").
Now, if on toaster, I do "ssh chris@marbles", it works fine. I can "scp" across the network fine as well.
If, however, I do "sshfs chris@marbles:/mnt/music-vids/ ~/marbles/", I get the error:
read: Connection reset by peer
Going through the logs on marbles, all I get is this:
Dec 7 15:34:33 marbles sshd[5905]: Accepted publickey for chris from 192.168.0.3 port 44030 ssh2
Dec 7 15:34:33 marbles sshd(pam_unix)[5907]: session opened for user chris by (uid=0)
Dec 7 15:34:33 marbles sshd[5907]: subsystem request for sftp
Dec 7 15:34:33 marbles sshd(pam_unix)[5907]: session closed for user chris
Which means nothing to me really.
Anyone got any ideas?
Cheers.Turns out I had:
Subsystem sftp /usr/lib64/misc/sftp-server
Must have been from when I had Gentoo amd64 installed.. I just blindly copied the configs over, doh! Fixed and it all works now
Cheers -
[Solved] sshfs - read: Connection reset by peer
I've used this command to try testing a remote file sharing system, just locally.
[dalesalter@Archy ~]$ sudo sshfs [email protected]:~/Desktop/Test/ ~/Desktop/Test1/ -C -p 99
which results in...
read: Connection reset by peer
I've read the trouble shooting page here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sshfs
Although none of it seems to resolve anything
Thanks in advance and feel free to ask any questions, as what I did was probably a stupid mistake.
Last edited by Compulsed (2011-09-30 07:21:06)A few things, though I'm not sure they're the cause of the problem...
- Don't use sshfs as root. It's a FUSE filesystem and meant to be user mounted.
- Don't specify a full path as the remote FS. It's SSH, so by default, the $PWD on the remote side is the login user's $HOME. You can merely specify 192.168.1.101:Desktop/Test
Rule of thumb: if ssh works, sshfs will work. The easiest way is to make sure that ~/.ssh/config has an entry for the remote host with the user, port, etc provided.
