Connection server timing out during software update?

my itouch is stuck on version 2.2.1 and every time I try to update it to the newer versions, an error message pops up saying that the conncetion server timed out. my network connection is active, i can download apps and music and stuff i just cant get this software update for some reason, any ideas?

I had little problem downloading the update for my iPad. However, it took about a day to download the the update for my iPod. It kept timing out.

I've tried several times to update my iPhone 4 to the iOS 7.1.2 update using iTunes on my Mac mini. Each time, after about an hour or two, I get the message that the network connection has timed out. I don't have any security software installed, so that can't be the issue. I have the most recent version of iTunes, so that can't be it either. I can't update directly on my phone, because I don't have enough space left. Any suggestions as to why the network is timing out??

I've been trying unsuccessfully for a week to update my iPad and my iPod but it keeps giving me an error message staing that the network timed out. Does anyone know how to fix it?

The update is several hundred megs
Which means it can't be done over 3G if you're trying it that way. And if your other internet connection isn't fast enough it will time out.
People have also had issues with their firewalls or anti virus software....the software detects the update file as a virus or malware (incorrectly of course) and blocks it. So you can also try disabling your firewall or anti virus and give it a try and see if that helps.

Check to see if you anti-virus software running, that will at times interfere with the connection with the Apple server.

Why can't I update my IPad 2 to IOS 5? Itunes always say "The connection has timed out" whenever I tried to update my IPad 2.

I've already tried my best to update my IPad 2 into IOS 5 since it's lunch into the world. So I open up my Itunes in my PC, connected my IPad 2 with the cable, and clicked "Update". So then I waited for a while till I finish all the steps or whatsoever. Then ITunes's bar showed something like "Downloading software for the IPad" "12 hours remaining" So then I waited and waited and waited, 9 hours are remaining and suddenly a window poped-up saying that my network connection had timed out and i had to try again even when my internet connection is really on the fast lane. I wonder if it's my IPad's problem or ITunes. Please help me to solve this problem.

Sadly there are some 'bad carriers' out there. If you have a VERY long download(and iPad OS updates can be 100s of megabytes) and the carrier has an interruption in service(router reboots, modem disconnects, etc) iTunes will timeout.
You might want to try updating later in the evening when usage starts to drop off(kids go to bed, people start watching cable instead of Netflix/Hulu) or early in the morning.
The other alternative is to update at a friend's place who might have a better carrier or is on a better subnet

I have been trying to download ios5 using my windows compute Windows 7. I connected Ipad and opened Itunes etc. Three times I have sat there for up to an hour downloding the program and it gets to the end (100%) sometimes it even processses the file and then I get a message saying the connection has timed out and to try again. i get a '408' error--server timed out when i try to download from iTunes--this is straight after installing legit rosetta stone software--a windows site mentions this as a possible cause--and the timing points to it--other songs downloaded--but pretty sure it stopped after the software finally got properly installed--any ideas?
